Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T525) TWRP installation Error - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Problem: Unable to install TWRP via ODIN. I try to flash the device with the twrp-3.1.1-0-picassowifi.img.tar using ODIN, I get the following errors during the boot recovery step Home+VolUP+Power:
Could not do normal boot.
ODIN Mode
Product name: SM-T525
Current binary: Custom
System status: Custom
Knox Kernel Lock: 0x0
Knox warranty VOID: 0x1
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enabled (CSB)
AP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A1, P1
Write protection: Enable
UDC Start
I am able to reinstall KitKat back to its original state using ODIN each time which helps alot.
The tablet was in the following state prior to the TWRP installation:
I did a factory reset back to original Kitkat version 4.4.2
Samsung account: No
Google account: Yes
Installation Preparation Steps
Downloaded following files:
LineageOS 14.1,
open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20201223
ODIN v3.14.4
Samsung USB Drivers v1.7.31.0
Auto-Root-picassolte-picassoltexx-smt525
twrp-3.1.1-0-picassowifi.img.tar
Installation Steps:
Tested if recovery mode is working prior to installing twrp: Done Successful
Installed USB drivers on your PC
USB Debugging was enabled on device by pressing build number 7 times in settings
Developer options: Activated USB Debugging
Disabled bootloader: not done (not sure how to do it and if it is required)
Rooted device via ODIN: Done successfully (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time flags checked)
Disabled KNOX via SuperSU
Tested if recovery mode is still working after root: Done Successful
Installed TWRP image via ODIN: Status PASS (Auto Reboot flag unchecked, F. Reset Time flag checked)
Booted into TWRP Recovery using HOME+ Vol UP + Power button
The last step is where the error occurs and TWRP recovery mode did not start.
I tried multiple versions of TWRP, but all attempts failed.
I installed TWRP via play store on the tablet and selected the .img file for my device via the TWRP tool. Although the tool was able to flash the device (stated that the flash was successful within the tool), when I try to enter device recovery mode, I get the same error: Could not do normal boot.
Any idea what could be wrong? Am I missing a step, permission issue?
I would appreciate any hint
thx
Sal

Isn't the T525 the picassolte?
Seems to me you're using the wrong TWRP.

Well, if you say so.
But I think you're wrong.
wifi=t520 lte=t525
And why did you use Auto-root for lte?

Thanks for the help. Before I reached out to you, I tried my best to gather all the info to upgrade to LineageOS. Rooting the device was one of the steps. I got the file for t525. I did not think about wifi or LTE. I see now that it makes a big difference.....thx. I'm rather new to the rooting and upgrading a device approach.
Strange, I doubled checked the package. It doesn't say anywhere about LTE - only wifi. But I checked the imei on imei.info and noticed that it is a LTE model. I bought the tab in 2014 and I guess I bought the lte model. This explains alot.
I will try the lte version of twrp.
thx again

I tried the lte version of twrp and I was able to enter into recovery mode. Thanks for the excellent tip.
I guess I need to do more homework on twrp and the whole process. I also got lucky on using the right root file. Because I almost made a huge mistake with rooting, I think I need to take a step back and do more research. I want to make sure that I have a complete image of my tablet just in case I take a wrong turn. I believe twrp is the right tool to do that. Any suggestions on the steps which I need to do?
Initially when I first started to gather all the info and dowloaded the files, I also downloaded lineage-14.1-20201218-UNOFFICIAL-n2awifi.zip. It appears that this file is also for the wifi model. Is there a difference between wifi and lte for lineageos 14.1?

@Sal60 so we finally figured out what you really got .
The saving process is very easy in TWRP just use backup option and save EFS, Boot, System and Data.
Although the last three can easily be restored by flashing stock ROM via Odin.
DON'T flash any ROM which is not specifically designed for your model as danger of bricking will be increased by doing so.

Awsome, I backed up everything. I will need to do more research on the right ROM. Using the wifi version I downloaded of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 is probably not the best way to go.
I see that LineageOS.org does not support my tab as of now and CyanogenMod no longer exist. Do you know of any other projects which might support my tablet?

@Sal60 as I don't own any T52* I've no idea what's going on in ROM development.

@bmwdroid: thanks for the link. I will review the url. I completely understand the risk part. I rarely use my very expensive tab anymore because it is so old and more or less useless. Most apps do not work anymore. Samsung stopped updating the tab shortly after it was released.
Sorry about not hitting the like button.
I will update the post with the results after I do some research on the file.
Thanks.

@Sal60 I condemn Samsung for their update strategy as well.
That's why I will never ever again by a new device from them.
All my stuff is older than four years and on custom ROMs either on Nougat or even Q.
I bought them only after searching here for active devolopers.

Failed root attempt left tablet at the Samsung screen

I have been searching the forum and google and have been unable to reach a solution yet.
I am not a noob, but i am not an expert either so use small words ha.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 5210 with the most recent OTA update.
Last night I attempted to root my device using this:
androidxda (DOT) com/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-3-10-1-gt-p5210
It claimed successful and my device started to reboot and hung up at the Samsung GALAXY TAB 3 screen. I am unable to get to recovery mode on the device. Only able to go to download mode. I have tried several options but have been unable to find a way to flash it successfully. The flashes i have tried downloading were all in .zip and that obviously isn't able to be used in Odin. I have researched how to convert the files into a .tar but I don't have linux. Can someone please help me because I need my tablet. I know it can be saved but I can't seem to locate the answers. I am also getting concerned that it is unable to charge the battery being in the condition it is in now so I am trying to conserve the battery on the tablet until it is absolutely needed. Thanks.

First of all - Welcome to xda
Your tab is soft bricked, something has gone wrong with your system files... Honestly it seems like you know enough to get it done, but are struggling a bit with the file formats. You are correct in saying that Odin won't use zip files, but you shouldn't have to convert anything to tar or download linux! If you extract the zip files, you should find a .tar or .tar.md5 file (inside the zip file) that Odin can use, put it in the PDA mode box, etc etc... If your downloads don't have the correct files inside them, try THIS thread.
Let me know if you get it sorted :good:

I had already tried the method and file in the forum you linked me to. It failed almost instantly. That's when I turned everything off and tossed it all to the back seat of my work truck before it got thrown at the windshield. I keep seeing people saying they have trwp or whatever. I don't even know what that is haven't researched that. Is it something i need as well?
I've never successfully rooted a Samsung device. I used to do this stuff a lot back with the droid x with Linux and everything was pretty simple. Does Samsung change their bootloader with each update like Motorola did then? I was wondering that when trying to install a firmware of a previous version that maybe that was the problem.
All I wanted root for was to just tweak some things and be happy. It has turned into a nightmare.
C,
hi,
the consistent/common thread of this problem is/seems to be taking the ota and trying unverified/gimmicky
root methods.
there are recoveries for the gt-p52xx in the tab 10.1 forum
the majority of samsung devices root as follows;
if a custom recovery exist, flash it.
then download recent or latest version of chainfire's supersu update zip, reboot to recovery
backup your rom first, then flash supersu, if everything goes well, once you have set up your stock rom with root in place
make a new backup.
samsung ota's are death incarnate, reject them.
goto the tab 10 forum and get busy ! you said it yourself, you're not a noob, you know the drill. :good:

I don't do this stuff regularly as I don't hardly have the time. I haven't done anything of this nature in years so I'm well out of the loop on things..

okay, hmm, when you say it fails, do you mean odin fails to flash and if so what is the reason/ouput ?
or do you mean that you are now in a recovery bootloop ?
note- though i go the full route of packing recovery.img's for odin flashing, the md5 checksum always seems to
come up as invalid, the working "remedy" is to remove the .md5 extension from the "odin-flashable-recovery".tar.md5 file
by renaming the file to "odin-flashable-recovery".tar
odin will no longer attempt the checksum verification but the recovery file will flash.
make sure you have samsung-usb-drivers for windows installed. on the main page of my devhost archive [link is in my signature]
you will find the tools you need. the possible problem is that the ota you installed may have overwritten your bootloader, for that i don't
have a reliable fix, so if anything make sure you also have the stock recovery ready to go as well as supersu update zip
already downloaded onto your device for rooting.
after you flash the custom recovery [with auto-restart in odin disabled] run the flash and wait for the res-ok message, give it another second or two then disconnect the tab and force reboot to recovery, home,vol-up and power, once in recovery make a full backup, then flash supersu zip and reboot, if you do go into recovery loop, force reboot to odin mode, home,vol-down and power, follow the on screen instruction, now reconnect your tab to pc and use odin to flash back stock recovery.

Okay guys I appreciate the help. I finally got it. I tried the method on Zachisimo's post on unbricking and finally got it installed.
After it installed, it left me with a bootloop and I was actually able to go into recovery mode this time and do a factory data reset and wipe cache then everything went well. I am a happy dude now.
Going to attempt rooting it again and does anyone have any suggestions on what ROM to install? I have never used any custom ROM's before so that is a new area for me. Feeling more confident knowing how to save it from the dead. :good::good::good:

question why does Restl3ss say wait 10minutes after installing a rom before doing anything?

SPH-L520 NJ1 update question

I have obtained a Sprint s4 mini. From what I can find, the current kernel is SE secure enforcing.
The exact build number is KOT49H.L520_4.4.2_0016
Build date is Oct 7 2014
I am not new here, I know that all known root methods are now bust. What other options are there?
Searching seems to be pretty difficult for this device. All searches for bootloader and recovery come up for the i9190 / i9195
If I use Kies or Odin to flash a previous recovery image, will that brick the device? Also in the settings, it says Secure Boot Status - Type: Samsung
Guess that is referring to the Knox enforcing
The particular image I had in mind to flash with Odin is SPR-L520VPUAMK2-20131115204826
Will it work? Or am I screwed?
Well no one was able to answer my question, so I had to figure it out on my own. Hopefully the following information will be of help to someone else without spending 36+ hours digging through the internet for answers.
You CAN fix your phone it you are on the NJ1 kernel. This is NOT a guide to fixing a bricked phone, although it may fix that too.
If you are on the NJ1 kernel, there are no root methods currently available. You MUST be on NE3 or lower. I also attempted to flash the custom recovery through Odin, but after a reboot it was as if I did nothing. No Knox flag, no warranty trip, no custom recovery.
Here is what I did to get custom recovery and root:
READ THIS BEFORE ATTEMPTING STEP 1.
This is only for the Sprint variant of the S4 Mini. Model number SPH-L520
Your Warranty could be voided. Proceed if you like. (More info on steps 5 and 6)
I had a horrible time getting the downloads from Sammobile. You WILL have to create an account and login to download files. I could not find any working links for the firmware below except for this site. Register a user name and password, DO NOT UNCHECK THE BOX that says receive emails from Sammobile OR YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR REGISTRATION EMAIL. On the Register page it is at the bottom. After you register, check your email and click on the link to complete the registration.
Close all your windows that are open to sammobile.
You are going to want to download Internet Download Manager in order to download files from Sammobile. After many many attempts to download the firmware from Sammobile, all tries failed. YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IDM to get a reliable download.
Download IDM ---> https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/download.html
Install it and follow these directions to enable resume downloads in IDM ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765456
If you do not do the steps above, you most likely will have failed download after failed download.
Even after setting this up, the firmware download failed on me twice. I deleted it from the download list in IDM and started it again.
IDM integrates well with Internet Explorer. Kinda buggy with Chrome. I would suggest using IE for the rest of this Tutorial.
Ok, now that you have that squared away, move on to step 1
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1) Flash your phone back to NE3. You can get that here ---> http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/31482/L520VPUBNE3_L520SPTBNE3_SPR/ (click Regular Download, then on new page right-click Confirm Download and click SAVE AS. After that the IDM window should pop up. Just Start Download)
Also go ahead and download download the NJ1 in case things get rough. List of all firmwares here ---> http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SPH-L520/
2) Download and install the Samsung drivers ---> http://www.mediafire.com/download/a4hd8y0c1iakysk/Samsung-Usb-Driver-v1.5.49.0.exe
Download Odin 3.09 ---> http://androidhost.org/PVAIv
Unzip Odin to a folder or desktop. Do not run it from in the zip folder.
3) Run Odin 3.09.
Reboot your S4 Mini SPH-L520 into download mode. Turn phone off > Hold Volume Down, Home Button, and Power Button all at the same time. Wait for the phone to buzz and the pop up on the screen. Release the buttons and press Volume Up to confirm.
Now plug in your phone to your computer. It might take a few seconds for the drivers to install. Wait until Odin shows blue color in the first bar on the left side. Should say 0:[COM3] (the COM number will be different depending on your computer and the USB port you plugged it into)
VERY VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure that the AUTO-REBOOT and F. RESET TIME boxes ARE checked. Make sure that the RE-PARTITION box is NOT checked.
4) Unzip the NE3 download from earlier. Click on the AP button in Odin and navigate to where you unzipped NE3. It should be a .MD5 type of file
Give Odin a few mins to check the file. It may appear that Odin has hung up, just be patient.
After Odin has run the check, it should say ok in the little window on the bottom left. Now click START and wait.
DO NOT bump the phone, the laptop, the usb cord, and MAKE SURE THE BATTERY DOES NOT FALL OUT!!!
After Odin is done flashing, it will reboot the phone. After the initial reboot, the phone will reboot itself once more. Be patient
Now wait for the phone to completely boot up.
5) After you have got back to ME3, you can follow this guide to root it ---> http://androidxda.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-sprint-sph-l520
You already have most of the files you need. Just follow the instructions and download what you do not have already.
By the way, in Odin the AP button and the PDA button are the same
(This method should not trip the Knox counter, but I am unsure. Mine was already tripped before all of this)
OPTIONAL (this will trip the Knox counter and lose warranty status)
6) Now you can use this guide to install the custom recovery ---> http://techbeasts.com/2014/05/04/in...-root-sprint-samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-sph-l520/
Again, you already have most of the files you need. DL what you don't have.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I am planning on instaling CM11 ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669991
This ROM apparently needs a specific recovery in order to work properly. I installed that one instead.
MAKE A BACKUP IN THE RECOVERY OF THE STOCK ROM BEFORE FLASHING ANY CUSTOM ROMS, or else be sorry later.
This is about as simplified as I could get it. Hope this helps out those of you that were as confused as I was.
I will not be providing support. Simply do not have the time. There is more than enough info here to help you figure out what to do.

Can you help me to backup your first partition on your phone and send to me. You can use EFS Professional on xda.
Hmm....I installed the NJ1 update through Odin. And then flashed the CF auto root (or maybe it was the recovery.tar) with no issues. I did this when NJ1 was first released.

At least tell us what is going on or why you need the backup.

[GUIDE] Official updates on a M2 tablet with root/changed recovery

Official updates for our M2 tablet,
although having installed another
recovery and root access, already.
- Disclaimer
Well, whatever you do with this guide is all up to you and in your own responsibility. You
should have basic knowledge about ADB and flashing, which is explained in many other
threads here on our beloved XDA.
- Issue
When you used this guide (https://goo.gl/r04XjJ) or any other one to give your M2 tablet
another recovery and therefore root rights, you have now the problem, that EMUI will show
you new updates, but you are not able to install them, because of the missing stock recovery,
of course.
- Solution
So, you have to flash back the original stock recovery, getting the official update and then you
can flash back your TWRP recovery.
- Guide
1. You should start your EMUI update programme/app and start the download of your update.
When it is finished, it will ask you to reboot into recovery and install automatically. As you have
no stock recovery I strongly advise not to do so. Usually nothing happens, but there is one case
reported, where it somehow ****ed up the guy's tablet. I am not sure, if that story is true, but
well, I have warned you.
2. Just turn your tablet off after you have finished downloading the update (it will wait now in
the directory "HwOUC" on your tablet and it is called "update.zip" - just let it sleep there).
3. Start the tablet in the fastboot recovery mode, meaning plugging in the USB cable (connected
to the computer) and hold the buttons "power" and "volume down", immediately, until a white
screen appears, which is the fastboot recovery screen. It should tell you, it has the bootloader
unlocked, which is normal, because you did that earlier on with any of the other guides (see above).
4. Copy the downloaded stock recovery of your choice to your ADB directory. In my case this is
"c:\ADB", but this depends on your way of installation.
5. Now open up a command line in Windows (with Windows key + R) and type "cmd") and go to
your ADB directory, using commands like "cd .." and "cd adb".
6. When having arrived in the ADB directory, you have to enter these commands one after the other:
fastboot flash recovery stock-recovery.img
fastboot reboot
If you renamed the recovery file, then you have to consider that in the command, of course.
7. The device will reboot directly into the recovery, because it "sees" the update in the update
directory et voila ... you are getting your awaited update. Sometimes it will boot not into the EMUI
recovery directly, but then you hast have to start the tablet normally, open up the EMUI app and
download the update again and do the OTA update properly with the reboot it tells you to do,
when it is finished.
8. Okay, now you have received your update, but if you want to have back your TWRP, you just
have to turn off your tablet and boot into the fastboot recovery again (see 3.).
9. You have to copy your TWRP recovery to your ADB directory (in my case "twrp.img" in "c:\ADB").
10. Now open up a command line in Windows (with Windows key + R and type "cmd") and go to
your ADB directory, using commands like "cd .." and "cd adb".
11. When having arrived in the ADB directory, you have to enter these commands one after the other:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
12. The tablet will reboot and you are back to a working lovely updated M2 tablet.
- Root:
If you want to have root rights, I strongly recommend flashing Magisk within TWRP, because it is
just a nice and more modern approach to having root. It works very fine on my M2 10 tablet. The
link for the files and guide is here:
https://goo.gl/UXYk4d
It is very easy. You just flash Magisk 12 in TWRP and then install the Magisk Manager app from the
Play store.
- Files for M2-802L and M2-A01L:
https://ufile.io/0df492 (all four recoveries here)
https://files.fm/u/aajdmadr (all four recoveries here)
https://www.file-upload.net/download-12438839/HuaweiM2recoveries.rar.html (all four recoveries here)
Have fun with your updated tablet. ... and I am happy, if I could help you - any coffee appreciated.

Additionally, I can offer you the updates B007 and B010 (most current one) for the
M2 10 LTE (M2-A01L), because I managed to save them/back them up. These are the
European versions of B007 and B010 with all language files, I believe.
So, who is having a M2-A01L and is still sitting on B006 or B007, might try a manual
update, which is as easy as pie. It is just one simple step.
Also, an update from B009 to B010 might be possible.
Of course, I cannot give any guarantee for Huawei's update files, which you will
understand, I guess.

I'd greatly appreciate it, if you could share. Got the problem that my A-01L got corrupted. The only official ROM I've been able to find has been B005 what is somewhat old. As it seems to be a pre-release version the tablet doesn't find any updates. Thus I'd like to try to upgrade to B007, or even B010 manually when I'm back home. Currently I'm on a weekend trip as friends of mine are going to marry tomorrow. Thus I'd be able to download them on Sunday evening if you'd provide them.

I have Magisk running on several devices, including the M2-A01L, but I must admit,
I never got the Safetynet passed, even with Magisk hide enabled.
I just use it as systemless root and with systemless Xposed, which is great.

After enabling magisk hide, you have to reboot your device. Got the 801L working with that and safetynet passes.
Noob Question on recovery files
Hi, and thanks for a incredible well detailed guide for updating. Came here because I haven't found any good recovery files for the wifi model. I've been trying (unsuccessfully may I add...) to install TWRP and magisk. So, my question is: can the recovery files for the LTE model be used on the wifi model? (M2-A01w). Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I have been on vacation.
To be honest, I am not sure, if the recovery for M2-A01L works on M2-A01w, too, but you can just try it.
I think, there should not be that big a problem, because the recovery has nothing to do with Wi-Fi or LTE, at all. It is just important, that partition tables and drives are accessible the same way and well, I really think, there is not much difference in between the M2 10 models.
From M2 8 to 10 there is a difference, of course. That is why I uploaded both recoveries (for 802L and A01L).
Just use that guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m2/how-to/guide-unlock-bootlader-twrp-root-huawei-t3322340) without the SuperSU flashing and my recoveries in this guide.
Hi guys,
I need help, I have a M2 10 LTE previously modded with TWRP for root and I've just followed this guide to update from 007 to 010 version.
So I've flashed the stock-recovery, rebooted the tablet, requested the firmware update (I don't know if I got any error during the process) and the tablet has rebooted. Now it's stuck on HUAWEI logo..
I use this tablet for work so I really need to recover it asap.
Please help.

Could upload the B010 fullstock ROM/firmware. Thus you could reset the device to the latest stock ROM using the /dload method and gain a factory rested Huawei, as if out of the box. Just quote me if you'd want me to upload and I'll share the link asap. Took that way myself as soon as I found the full stock ROM.

Bricked Galaxy A3 2017

Hello everyone, I decided to root my phone today. First I enabled OEM unlock and then installed TWRP, no problems with that. Then I tried to install CF autoroot through recovery and everything seemed fine. When I tried to boot up my phone it said something like integrity check failed and I had to do a factory reset to be able to even start the phone. I did not do that but tried to install official samsung oreo firmware through odin but it won't install, just fails. Then i got other error message saying "an error occured while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software". The only thing I can do now is enter download mode and nothing else but odin does not let me flash anything. I'm desperate here so any suggestion would be great. Model is SM A-320FL btw. Sorry for my english and lengthy post

What kind of error do you get in Odin?
Is it the one that says something like "SW Rev. check fail"?
If so than for me it worked to flash the bootloader and modem of Oreo and the after that i reinstalled the OS without any problems.
First it was just a red fail for BL, CSC and those other things and later it just won't even start. When I try to install TWRP it goes to half and stays there. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thank you for the reply, I don't think it was from carrier, when I tried to flash firmware I downloaded latest firmware from my current carrier so I think that shouldn't be a problem. I'll contact you tomorrow because i'm just too tired now. And update, I can flash TWRP now if that is of any help.
It is solved now, thanks everyone for your help

Hi. Glad to see you got this sorted, but it may be useful for other users to see what you did to resolve this.
Yes, how did you solved that.
Looking at two A320F I found one difference:
One has AP SWREV B:2 K:0 S:0
the other one (that makes trouble): AP SWREV B:3 K:1 S:1
What exactly does it mean.
Flashing with Odin gave me erros (on device, Odin just say "failed") depending on flashing BL (SW Rev Check failed )Bootlader Device: 3, binary: 2 , while flashing AP gives Kernel Rev check fail.
So, how to go on? I was able to flash TWRP, but not Stock (neither an old 6.0 nor 8.0).
Ok, solved it. Flashing stock will probably only work to same or newer versions, not for downgrade (at least not without any special tricks that I don't know).
After downloading the latest stock FW , odin passed.
Now I still have the problem, that I can't transfer data partion from one A3 to another one.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78062070&postcount=71
My first error was that I downloaded wrong firmware for my phone and because of that odin gave me errors. Second error was that I tried to wipe data through advanced wipe, but I needed to format it by pressing format data button. After doing that I was able to flash official stock ROM, install TWRP and root my phone. User MartinYTCZ helped me greatly with this, big thanks to him again. :victory:

Can't you backup your internal storage on PC or SD card, contacts, messages, phone calls, settings on samsung account and apps and data with titanium backup? When I flashed stock ROM I lost all data from my phone so be careful with that.

[Guide] [Patched Images] ROOT / UNROOT - CN or WW Firmware (28/08)

So, Now that we are through converting the firmware of the devices, Let's move to root access.
As usual, I'll keep it as noob friendly as possible. Your suggestions are always welcome to improve the thread.
Please note that Root level access voids your warranty, Opens your system for vulnerabilities, security exploits, Banking and financial apps stop working and even can cause system instability.
Only proceed if you're very clear about what you're doing and only if you really need it.
How it works out
* Root level access is when you need access to internal areas of the file system which you cannot access as an end user.
* By having root access you can mod many things like ad block on hosts level, bootanimations, ringtones, Titanium Backup and even a clean debloat.
* To obtain root level access on ROG II what's required is to extract the Boot Image (Boot.img) from the firmware package and patch it using magisk.
* Then the Patched Image file will be flashed to the device via Fastboot replacing the stock Boot image on the device
* Since the patched boot image is not official, You must unlock the bootloader before attempting any of the below steps. Failure to follow this step will brick your device.
* If you later change your mind, and you need to unroot - You can simply download the stock image and flash it via Fastboot.
* Boot image can be patched using the magisk manager app if you want to do it by your own, However for the rest of us I have already patched and uploaded the files on the second post
* Stock Boot images are 90MB+ while Patched boot images are around 50MB. This is absolutely normal for some unknown reason.
* As long as you're rooted a few apps that detect root like banking apps, GooglePay will not work. You can try to use Magisk Hide, but some of the apps are not that dumb anymore.
Prerequisites
* Bootloader Unlocked (This is a Must)
* PC with working Fastboot (Guide to Setup)
* Device Drivers Installed and Identified (Google ADB USB Drivers)
* Latest Magisk Manager APK from this thread.
Instructions
* Download the appropriate file from the second post depending on whether you need to root or unroot.
* Move the file to C: Drive, or a place where you can start a command prompt from (Command Prompt -> Hit Windows Key + R (Run Dialog Box) and Press enter)
* Connect your phone using the USB Port on the Side (Black Coloured one) - Connecting the bottom charging port will not work
* Type Fastboot devices to verify whether the device is connected or not. If connected - You will see "Fastboot <Device Serial Number>"
* To flash the Boot image of your choice execute the below command from the folder you have your downloaded boot image saved
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
A message will show transferring file, Patching boot_A and it will come back to a prompt.
* After this step, you can type fastboot reboot to boot to system.
* It is not important to wipe / factory reset the device after a boot image flash.
Patched. Now What?
* If you just obtained root access, Now you can install Magisk Manager downloaded from This thread.
* Connect the device to internet and open Magisk Manager - It will download some necessary files and it will ask for a reboot. Follow the action and reboot the device.
* Upon Reboot, You can open Magisk Manager and check for Root access status. If it shows Installed - You're done
* You can try Magisk Hide to hide apps detecting root
* You can try a few new modules in the Magisk Downloads section (Since we do not have TWRP yet, Be careful on this step) - A wrong module can cause a bootloop.
Thank you and Good Luck!

1. Flashing Stock Boot Image takes you back to stock. Then relocking the boot-loader takes you back to factory state.

I have switched to WW, with Root.
No issues with WIFI here.
I am really lost. I got my ROG Phone II 3 days ago (Tencent Version - but already flashed to WW) but I can't find any solution to root my phone. I have no idea how to extract the boot.img although I have read hundreds of posts on how to do this. I was on IOS for the last 10 years so I'm trying to root for the first time in my life and I would really appreciate any help I could get with how to get the boot.img out of the firmware. Bootlocker is unlocked, fastboot works like a breeze and the PC shows the phone in fastboot mode, so at least no problem there. Thanks in advance, any information and help is more than welcome!

Alright, it seems I have gone blind as I really did not see the boot.img posted here. Shame on me!

I am an idiot. Read the OP. Download stock image and flash -.-
Hello there, can someone explain how to show navigation bar button (back and multi windows button) on CN os?
Quick question,
If I decide later to unroot does the device go back to normality like nothing ever happen? Or there is going to be always a recorded trace of the root activation? Do you get back warranty, banking apps and all that? thanks

-If you root, your warranty will be void!
-Can you root and unroot without losing warranty?, It depends!. The service center can detect easly if you have flashed a raw rom or unlocked the bootloader, but it will depend on the service center if they would let it slide or not depending on the type of damage. They can overlook it if the damage is simply software but if it's more than that they can prove you or someone has altered the phone software.
The logic behind my reasoning is simple, currently flashing the raw rom of the phone stops OTA updates meaning after flashing the raw rom your device doesn't go back to the way it was intended to be or the way it should behave, which implicates that the system has been altered.
