Flashing stock (EU or global) ROM on operator-branded 10T with locked bootloader? - Xiaomi Mi 10T / 10T Pro Questions & Answers

So i just received today my 10T but unfortunately it has an european operator ROM. I want to remove this rom and flash a stock EU or global rom.
Can i do this without unlocking the bootloader? and anything I should know/do before trying? like some kind of backup or recovery? thanks

It should work without unlocking, but I'm not 100% sure... Only way is to try... And since changing regions could possibly brick your device, take extra care...
Is there a way for you to just debloat carrier apps?
You could try that with xiaomiadbfastboot tools from https://github.com/Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools
It has uninstall option for many apps, with option for reinstall, since they stay in system...

Hi i got a 10t pro with a branded Rom, so i am trying to instal the Global Stable Rom, using XiaoMiTool V2, but it says that i have to unlock the bootloader to proceed.
It tryed too using the zip of the Rom, downloaded from miui.com , but still same problem.
What can i do? i don't want to unlock the bootloader, because i neet to use bank and paying app..

As I said in a previous post, I'm not 100% sure it will work without unlocking.
If you unlock and change rom you'll be able to use banking apps because you'll probably relock your bootloader after that. Problem is that there is a possibility that you'll brick your phone (you never know), so it's a risk you'd have to take if you want to change roms...

I believe you can relock the BL after flashing Global stable.I was on stable EEA and then switched to Global stable but now I realize stable EEA has

I went from EEA to global without unlocking BL using mi tool v2 with no issues.
I since regret this as the EEA has more features not present on Global.
To go to EEA from global the Mi tool says I need to unlock which I intend to do and I believe I can relock the BL after.

On display settings for sure there were more options plus Im just kinda thinking that I'm probably better off on the EEA being in Ireland because apparently they do optimize signal for certain regions.
The main reason I switched to global initially though was that Europe have s load of stupid rules and restrictions that affect for example the volume of the stereo speakers.
Global definitely has better quality coming from the speakers and this is true because by EU law. You can only have so much volume on them

I'm on global (non-eu european country) and i too have volume limitations, although you get notification and you can skip it... I'm gonna try eea rom for sure, that's mainly why i asked...

Yes but I think the volume was worse on the EEA version but possibly the speakers are just not very good generally no matter what ROM though I intend to go back to EEA anyway.
I think this phone was intended mostly for the EU market and it seems to be getting a lot more updates

All I can say is it went terribly,I used the Mi toolv2 after I unlocked my bootloader thinking I could flash the EEA ROM with no issues, but what insued was one of the worst days ever,
It kept getting stuck on
.fastboot flash all failed exit code 1 output flash vbmeta error,
I thought dam this and started trying the Mi flash tool but that was giving mismatched device and image.
I literally thought my device was done for but stuck with it and eventually commented out the first two lines of the flash all file so it would skip the mismatched error.
After about 5 hours of worry thinking Id lost €550 it worked (after editing flash. All)
Long sty short , bootloader still unlocked but might try manually locking over weekend, just delighted phone is working .
I would advise though to stay away from the Mi tool v2
to Update: I manually re locked the bootloader this morning using command Line and sdk tools. This worked but suprisingly wiped ll my data which was a bit annoying though phone is what I want it to be now on original global EEA stock.
I will not be messing around with it any more,

Thank you for you answe @manus31
Today i found something: the most recent rom that i can dowload from miui site is miui_APOLLOGlobal_V12.0.9.0.QJDMIXM , but i saw in XiaomiTool that it showed to me V12.0.10.0.QJDMIXM as the newer one.
So i looked for that in google and i found a url to dowload it ( https://bigota.d.miui.com/V12.0.10....Global_V12.0.10.0.QJDMIXM_a56b86d8e2_10.0.zip ) . Later today i will download this rom and check if it asks to me to unlock the booloader again.
I found a video in youtube of a spanish guy that 1 month ago flashed the Global Stable rom on a 10t Pro with a spanish rom, without the need to unlock the bootloader..

Little update.. i'am just reading this:
"UPDATE: 29/01/2021
Xiaomi is now pushing a new stable update for the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro globally. The update comes as MIUI 12.0.11.0 and weighs in at 352. It has improved the system security and stability, while fixing some minor bugs."
So i will download this 0.11 too and thy both

Yes ,this is true ,you can go from EEA global stable to Global stable without unlocking bootloader but of you want to go back to EEA you must unlock bootloader.
This is what happened to me and for some reason the Mi tool V2 almost bricked my device doing it.Luckily enough I'm back on EEA now by using Mi flash tool.
By the way there is a new update yesterday for the Global stable:
V12.0.11.0.QJDMIXM,
Here's a useful app for latest updates :
Xiaomiui: Download MIUI, Chatrooms, News - Apps on Google Play
Download MIUI Stable, Alpha, EU and other roms easly
play.google.com

I finally made it: rom Global Stable with locked bootloader!!
I had to use 12.0.10 and it worked.. before i tried with 12.0.11 but it asked me to unlock the bootloader.

Mi Note 2 - Global Rom Release
Okay so MIUI have finally released the global version of MIUI for Mi Note 2.
Remember this ROM works on all versions of the Mi Note 2, not just the Global Edition but also the CN edition with limited bands just don't go thinking it will unlock those extra bands.
For the many of us on xiaomi.eu or mi-globe there are limited gains perhaps but let's not forget what options we have now.
Full Official Multi-Language Rom can be used with locked bootloader. This means there is no root but:
We can pass Android SafetyNet - Android Pay Compatibility, Various Banking Apps
Multi-Language Rom that supports OTA updates
Pre-Installed Google Apps
Much less Chinese Bloatware
Probably a few other things I'm forgetting.
Now for the download links:
These are direct from Xiaomi so note their speed isn't always the best but I'd rather give you you direct from them so you know there's no tampering.

NB. Latest Dev version (Global Beta version 7.3.2 has been suspended for Mi Note 2 this week so this is the most recent.) You will be notified by Updater when a new release is available.
Recovery versions (i.e zip) can be flashed via TWRP (though won't be able to flash OTA updates this way) or for full MIUI guide see here
One final note, don't go discussing the global dev rom on the MIUI forums until they make it available themselves. No good will come of it.
And on the somewhat optimistic side usually Xiaomi release source code 3-4 months after global rom release. Once that source code is released hopefully we can see some real dev action for custom roms.
Thank you my firend.
I tried there is no problem.
I've purchased the Mi Note 2 from Banggood today, keen to use the Global Rom, as I'm sure it'll be better than what I get!
Is there a link somewhere to show how to install @StoneTrapper?

There's probably a more complete guide on the MIUI forums.
The short of it is you need to apply to unlock the bootloader of your device (it may already come unlocked - I don't know if Banggood install custom vendor ROMs).
After that personally I'd install TWRP since I'd want it rooted anyway.
Once you've done that you flash the zip with TWRP (there are now newer versions than listed here - check MIUI forums)
Flash Magisk or SuperSU or something if you want root and that's it.

You don't need to root but it's a bit of a gamble with the bootloader.
It's possible to do it with it locked but if anything goes wrong then you're in an awkward position. You can use the built-in recovery and rename to update.zip method.
Mi Note 2
I got the Global Mi Note 2 from china, I am so glad it came with a locked bootloader and the Global ROM pre-installed. Unfortunately, you just *CANNOT* install the official ROM w/o unlocking the bootloader, just an FYI. Once you flash the official ROM, it will relock the bootloader. But I need security on my device so I need the bootloader to be locked but luckily it came pre-installed with the Global ROM so I am pleased needless to say..

What do you mean a "Global Rom"? Which version of it is, can you be more specific. The latest on the mi site is 8.2.6.0, is that what it came on yours?

If you're not getting OTA updates it's most likely you have a vendor ROM rather than official. Download and flash an official update (there are plenty of guides on the MIUI forums if you're unsure how), after that you'll be good to get OTA updates.
8.2.6.0 is the latest stable I believe - It's available as a fastboot rom but for whatever reason not a flashable zip. Alternatively you can update to Miui 8.2.5.0 with a recovery update. That way you can confirm OTA updates and not have to lose any saved apps. Both links are for global version.

Do you have the Global Version of the phone, 8.2.6.0 is only available for the Chinese version of the phone and not the Global. I don't think that is a vendor rom, the phone came in a factory sealed box and I have the update app/option on it. Some people were advising to change the region to India or something else from USA and the new versions will come, bit I haven't tried yet.
hi there,
i have the global miui global 8.0.9.0.0 version
why it doesn't get any ota updates? my both imei's are altered for some reasons,
if i install latest global rom will it delete my imei numbers?

Both the download links are for the global stable rom.
8.2.6.0 is the latest stable release for both Chinese and Global rom. Both roms work (with the correct band support) on all editions of the phone.
The Chinese rom has CN in the code name, i.e. MADCNDL, whereas the global has MI i.e MADMIDL, in the same place. If you check About in Settings you'll see the code next to the Miui version info. You'll see the same codes in the download links.
The vendor roms will still usually include the update app and often resellers will re-seal boxes. Not to say you definitely have one but that doesn't preclude it.
Changing region might help, otherwise the links are above.
I don't see any download link for Mi Note 2 8.2.6.0..I did an OTA update to 8.2.5.0 ..not willing to flash any rom unless it is an OTA or gets through system update right now..
I did luck out with the vendor though, i asked a bunch of questions before I ordered it.currently the only way to verify if you have a global version of the phone is by the lettering on the box..unfortunately..

For whatever reason 8.2.6.0 is only shipping as a fastboot rom at the moment. No idea why but I doubt there's any major features you're missing out on.

Courtesy of this page.
It's a horrible way to update though, fine for a clean install.
The naming convention is a mess with the overlap of global rom and global edition being easily confused, notably on the vendors part around launch but it does seem they've sorted themselves out now.
The box being the only distinction really doesn't help matters.

Why unlock bootloader?

I want to preface this by saying I've requested my unlock token a few hours ago. I have a T-Mobile variant 7t that I want to put on the OnePlus release and get updates from OnePlus. That's as far as I want to go. From reading guides and such, I don't see any mention of TWRP or other recovery. Just a simple fastboot flashing. I have access to fastboot without unlocking the bootloader. So I was just curious if there's something in the bootloader that prevents the flashing or some other reason for unlocking it other than to do a full root after flashing. Also, would I be able to just flash the same current version downloaded from OnePlus to get onto global or does it have to be a a different folder with more images? Thanks in advance for the help. Just want to be sure I know what I'm having to prepare for before flashing next week when I get the unlock code.

I'm following your thread, I should get my bootloader unlocked in a week also.
From what I have read you'll have to be bootloader unlocked only to flash the global rom.
once your on the Global you can do regular updates with the phones built in local update feature.
I myself never relock the bootloader, but I have seen posts where other do

Relock the bootloader with non stock rom is never recommended. On Xiaomi phones you will definitely brick your global device for example of you have indian rom or eea rom on it! Don't know about OnePlus.

T-Mobile removes the local update.
Once the device has been flashed to Global ROM, how would TMobile have access to the device to remove the local update? What is their hook/access mode since the ROM is now Global and their variant?
I am about a week old into OP7T and have dreams of moving to the Global ROM, primarily for the dual SIM feature. I recognize that there are other benefits as well but the dual SIM is what I need now.

No, they can't. Once you convert, you're free. It's only if you start and stick with TMO that they have that control.
Thanks, nolimit78. I was confused by @metllicamilitia's post (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83005797&postcount=6) which seemed to suggest that TMobile removes the local updater....perhaps, that is different than the flashing of the Global ROM?

Yes, when you go to the software update page on the global ROM you have options and one of them is local update. Anything other than OTA from T-Mobile is removed in their build.

I am just a noob with limited experience with mobile platform. So, please bear with me. Your reply suggests that the Global ROM provides for OTA from TMo as the only option and everything else is removed from the Global ROM build, right? If yes, why would TMo provide updates when it is not their build/ROM? And why would anyone switch to a Global ROM if the updates are going to be from TMo? I thought one of the benefits was to get faster updates and avoid slow TMo updates.
Perhaps, I have this completely backwards?
It's backwards. T-Mobile removes all the options for updates from the T-Mobile build. Getting onto the global ROM gives the options back.

Can take a screenshot of aida64 to see board name
Mi 11x variant sold in India shows name as 'aliothin'. I think its the same device name, just a suffixed "in" at the end shows that its the Indian variant. I'm pretty confident the Xiaomi.EU ROMs would work in Mi 11x without any trouble. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Be aware that has a different modem. That is why it has a different name.
Mi 11X is flashable with unlocked bootloader, it's still Alioth (perhaps with different modem which can also be said about Redmi K40 and Poco F3):

Just unlock the bootloader first using the mi unlock tool from your laptop/pc.
Once done, download the latest stable xiaomi.eu rom from their website (do note it is a fastboot rom so you won't need a recovery at this point).
Follow or google the instructions to flash the fastboot rom and within mins you should boot into the new xiaomi.eu rom.

Yes weekly roms are perfectly fine. Since I find it hard to make time for constat updates, I chose the stable. Otherwise I always used to try weekly roms.
And no, since the fastboot rom worked just fine I don't think you'll have to change the name in the rom file. You can directly proceed.

Thank you one last thing is the phone eligible for updates in future or do i have to manually update it ?
Using Xiaomi.eu ROM 12.5, It's been more than a week and so far the experience is good. Switched from global ROM so for me a lot of new things are present in it.
For the Stable version you can follow this link:

Can You explain the process as to how you did it. I have Mi 11X India variant lying idle in box only bcoz I want to install Miui Eu ROM for Miui Dialer and messaging app. Will be thankful to you if you can explain process in detail step by step.
Another query I had regarding the Miui 12.5 stable fastboot ROM. Say I am successful in installing it. AFAIK I wont get automatically any updates for the fastboot EU ROM. And when next update comes I need to manually flash it again. My query is that to install next update, do I have to again unlock bootloader and again repeat the same process? Wouldn't it format my data on phone?? How do I make sure that when I install a new update via fastboot, my data stays as it is. Or should I wait for recovery ROM??

I see your multiple posts here and there.
I understand your reserve. The best is to read all the installation stuff at EU site. It will make things clear for you.
No risk.
Did anyone try the recent EU weekly ROM? this is the first ROM that includes TWRP recovery, If tried, how is the TWRP experience is it asking password every time when you log in to TWRP?

MIUI version unknown

Hi guys,
I've bought a Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite 5G, supposaly global edition, that has MIUI 12.5.3.0 installed.
My phone is the model M2007J17G and MIUI version says it is MIUI Global Stable 12.5.3.0(RJSEUVF)
I've tried to update using recovery roms from Global and Europe without any success, the message it appears is that is not a valid ROM.
Can you help me please understand what ROM my phone has installed?
Best regards
Sounds like Vodafone version, not sure if it's possible to switch to global/eu rom without bootloader unlocking.

From my reading, Tmo doesn't provide any flashables for you to downgrade/sidegrade/upgrade local with.
There was some speculation that the files could be pulled out of the ota on the phone but I don't know it anyone has tried, or if it could work. Edit: I see some in a post below, not sure how flashable the zips are but they have a few in there that may be helpful to you.
You'd have to back up your stuff, msm back to stock Tmo oos11 and then take the otas up to oos13. There is a Tmo oos13 release available now. I have not tried it but I believe @TheGhost1951 has and may be able to offer you some insight on battery life and stability. I'm on le2127 converted to Eu for ~8 months now. No real issues to speak of but I haven't tried 12/13 on this phone to compare.
If anyone does know a way to flash from eu back to Tmo without msm, that'd be interesting to read about and know.
[The downside to having Tmo rom (on the 7tp5g and I've read it happens on newer devices as well) is if you're rooted and bootloader unlocked, the ota will eventually not postpone any longer and will force update itself. Even with root and ubl, that happened to us on 7tp5g. For a while, it would fail install because of root/ubl. And you can't temp unroot easily because the Tmo rom automatically restarts itself after the ota so you can't get to magisk to set things up. After postponing it for a good while, it warned about a force install coming and we all figured it would not work because of root and ubl. We were all wrong. Some people who got warned in time we're able to block the update servers to prevent the download from taking place]
