flash twrp then flash magisk and your phone will have root; However, you can't decrypt internal storage (internal storage in twrp won't be accessible, force encryption disabler works on android 9 not 10).
also lockscreen and biometrics won't work, you can't set a lock/pin/fingerprint on your device (fix for biometrics works on android 9 not 10)
so i don't know if you want to stay on android 10, i rolled back to android 9 till there's a fix for the issues above.

That is something that Android 10 has introduced. You can't write to /system if booted. You need to be in recovery for this or use Magisk with its overlay capabilities.

I have Magisk, is the overlay needed in the downloads section of Magisk? Also is it possible to take my 7T back to Android 9? Thanks for the info btw!

No, I mean Magisk creates and overlay for /system. All modules you install modify the overlay of /system to change /system.
Like linked to a fake /system to change files inside /system without changing changing them.
You can downgrade to Android 9 via the MSM tool.

I have the MSM tool and have used it successfully to downgrade 10.0.9 to 10.0.7 but its Android 10 still. Where could I find the Android 9 ROMS?
UPDATE: I don't think OP7T ever ran on A9......so its not possible. I guess it's not possible at all to write to system if booted.
Oh, my bad. I'm still feeling like having the OP6 as I've just switched to the 7T. I forgot that the OnePlus 7T never ran OOS 9

Is Rooting Phone Worth It

I Have a new Remi Note Pro Is it worth trying to Root it and risk bricking it
I don't think it is worth rooting it right now. I've just bought one and upgraded to MIUI 11/Android 10. The only thing I miss is TWRP and I will wait until there is an official version. Nova Launcher is great and Blokada does a very good job of blocking ads. I will not root until the risk of bricking the device is gone.
Hi, i needed the call recorder possibility, this is why i have rooted my rn8p.
Don't forget to disable avb 2.0 in twrp, this is the only mistake i done
I rooted using LR.Team's TWRP... no problem @ all..
rooted 3 same phones already using this method:
1. Unlock
2. Flash MIUI 11 - Android 10 upgrade
3. Flash LR.Team's TWRP - https://mega.nz/folder/cMAT3Q4b#7CbPV7sbEuSEdP7cehXJ-w
4. Go to Advanced > Close AVB: check all
5. Go to Advanced > Disable replace TWRP
6. Go to Advanced > Flash Root/Magisk
7. Reboot to System - Upgrade Magisk within the Magisk Manager
8. PROFIT!! - No brick at all, the key is LR.Team's TWRP
I flashed Indonesia ROM (V11.0.2.0.PGGIDXM) on my phone to get call recording, which is now working. Is the root procedure the same for this ROM? Same TWRP?
Thanks.

NFC It still works, the problem is the payment environment, but it is solved by hiding the root with magisk for applications that use the payment environment

To me just to get rid of ads (AdAway) and call recorder (Default MIUI Apps) among other few things it is worth getting.

That's the problem. I wanted to rollback to Android 9 because a lot of people told me that it was safe and I also wanted to flash that lk preloader from Redmi note 8 Megathread but the problem is I already updated my phone to A10. Since I am already using A10 and rooted, I might try to reflash A10 stock rom first before rolling back to A9. Thanks for the info though

Android 11 upgrade?

I see that the September update for the Pixel 3 XL moves us to Android 11.
I have been doing monthly upgrades of Android 10, but moving to 11 is going require a lot of work. I think Magisk canary supports 11. I dont see any support yet for EdXposed and Gravitybox. Since we just got TWRP, I wonder if that will still work with 11.
I plan to wait a few weeks before moving to 11. I hope that EdXposed, GB and TWRP will be updated by then.
What are other Pixel 3XL planning to do?
I tried the Magisk/OTA update to go from 10 to 11 but root didn't stick. Guess I did something wrong. Oh well... I'll patch the boot img later.
Same here. I have to wait until exposed is fully supported.

should i install magisk canary on android 10 before I update to android 11? Currently on stable magisk with stock android 10? Are the steps also the same when using fastboot also?
I got Android 11 on Tuesday by opening the system update page in settings.

After Update to Android 11, i installed Canary Manager (nice blue layout!) and patched the boot.img. Steps are the same i always used to install the patched boot.img: "fastboot flash boot --slot all boot.img"

Upgrading to Android 10 on Redmi Note 8

Hello guys, I knew yesterday that Android 10 finally came out for Redmi Note 8, however for now the china version is the only one available, flashable via UPDATE.APP, right?
That's my question: I'm currently on stock Android 9, but with unlocked bootloader and root with MAGISK.
If I do the update to Android 10, will the bootloader be locked again? Will I be able to unlock again? And I guess I'll lose root too, will be possible to root with Magisk?
Thanks in advance

Just clean flash rom through recovery+flash magisk that's all. Backup everything before flashing. After flashing if reboot redirects to recovery then simply format data partition and reboot again.

i think you can not update this with update app, this update is only for beta tester
you can clean flash it with recovery, if you do this you lose everything along root, data, pictures etc
if you just want miui 12, you also can try eumiui 12 beta with Android 10 or wait for global stable
whatever you choose to do you can not lock your bootloader again even if you select it in mi flash tool you will just brick your device and, bricked device is bigger problem than locked bootloader
Wait for the official OTA update

Download the full rom
I downloaded the full rom from Asus website, the update was fine just dropping it at the root of internal storage. My is a chinese converted to WW firmware/fingerprint. All working fine so far.
I wonder where the VOLTE settings are, I find strange they are making it available for some regions only. Why not just make it available to everyone in any region? I can;t get my head around why VOWIFI and VOLTE is taking so long to get sorted. My oneplus 5 had this working fine 3.5 years ago!

If you're tencent to global (converted).
-locked Bootloader
-finger print should be WW
And flash the Full ROM not OTA
my bootloader was unlocked. Fingerprint was converted to WW. Not gonna flash OTA again if i can rescue my device.
Should I lock bootloader always before doing update ? I prefer to use rooted for blocking ads and easy backup/restore for titanium backup.

Unlocked bootloader but not rooted you can update through local upgrade. If you're rooted just unroot then after update root again
Ok, flashed full rom over twrp and rooted. Everything seem's fine now. Just dont pass safetynet test.

No need to unroot to update, or remove twrp. There's a couple of options.
For all instances FULL zip is required, as far as I'm aware
1. For those of you that are only rooted: (Recommended to disable magisk modules) Download the full zip, move to root of internal storage and reboot. System will detect and prompt to update, click update. Wait until it finishes but DON'T click 'restart', instead, click 'restart later'. Go to Magisk manager. Click 'install' for Magisk. Click the last option 'install to inactive slot after OTA'. Click confirm force flash. Reboot when prompted. Done - root kept intact.
2. For those rooted with TWRP you can either; A)
- Disable all magisk modules;
- Put rom.zip, twrp installer.zip and magisk.zip on your internal storage;
or B)
If you want you can also update a stock rom from phone settings with local upgrade:
- Update the Rom WITHOUT REBOOT;
- Open Magisk Manager;
- Menu/modules/+ button/select the twrp installer.zip and flash it;
- Always in Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Direct Install;
- Again in Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Inactive Slot;
- Reboot.
For all instances FULL zip is required, as far as I'm aware
Thanks to @mauronofrio for A and B and for all his (or hers lol) efforts generally
