How to switch to 12mp main camera in Live focus? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

The live focus uses either the 64mp (in zoom mode) or ultra wide camera. How can I use the main camera or zoomed out 64mp cam image for live focus? Coz the quality suffers much in artificial lighting

camera aperture when using portrait mode

i have note 8, portrait mode in low light is pretty bad (noise)
just like any other phone with wide + tele since the tele aperture is slow
i wonder if the op5t is using f1.7 on portrait mode
then again portrait mode photo quality on the huawei p10 plus is lower than the auto mode even though all lenses aperture is f1.7?
iphone 8 plus and note 8 portrait mode is bad compared to huawei rgb + monochrome setup with same focal length and aperture

Unable to select tele-lens on LG G8s

Greetings Just got my hand on a LG G8S here in Norway and I'm pretty happy so far. I started exploring the (three) cameras and noticed today, that if I covered the tele-lens, it did not make any difference. Activating the zoom mode (big tree icon) still provided an image, showing that it was just using a digital zoom on the main lens. Wide lens works fine however.
I also noticed, in manual mode, I could not activate the tele mode at all. Seeing also that the aparture did not match the tele one witch should be f/2.4.
Could it be that I have a G8 firmware, which only supports two cameras?
Thanks!
Pål
Try This.
Guess this scenario is been discussed and tested on other LG triple camera phones with Telephoto lens.
G8s telephoto lens with F2.6 needs good light to work, in poor lighting it switches back to the main/standard lens and offer digital Zoom.
Try outdoors with good lighting, switch to tele lens and then cover this lens with your finger.
Not sure why the software has to decide which lens to choose, May be this is the so called AI camera feature
Try gcam. It uses telephoto lens even at night
Hey, if you want to force the use of the telelens lens long press the little tree button, and it will show a live mini-preview of each lens. Choose the tele view and take the picture. You'll notice the difference in the quality and stability of the preview opposed to when you try to scroll smooth past 1.9x zoom.
But you won't be able to do anything else but snap the shot.
As soon as you click in something out of this preview option, whether to adjust exposure or anything, you'll notice you'll leave the telelens to the main sensor 2x digital
It's not ideal, but Works... Looks like a.... Bug?
Know this has been dead for a while but I investigated this and it bases the lens selection on focus distance and light availability. If you try to use the tele lens on close up subjects it will auto select the main sensor. If used for shooting more generally the tele lens is selected. I imagine light availability makes a difference too. I wish it wasn't blocked in manual camera mode though.

Macro lens

So, the macro mode apparently uses a motor to move the ultrawide lens slightly to change the focus. If you cover up the main camera or the telephoto, macro still works. However, when turning on and off macro, if you look at the main camera, it moves slightly, while the ultrawide doesn't appear to move. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

The main lens moves because it turns off the stabilizer at the time of switching modes. The ultra-wide lens also moves slightly when you turn on the macro mode.

Thanks. This is the first time I've had a phone with OIS, so I never realised it actually moves the lens. Just realised now that the lens also moves every time the camera is opened.

64MP Sensor

Hi all,
I've read online that the 64MP telephoto sensor actually has a wide lens but takes a 16MP crop. Is this true? If so, that means photos from the tele lens would be 16MP 0.8µm which seems like a massive step backwards.
My questions are:
1.) Can anyone confirm if this is correct?
2.) Does the S20+ allow you to take full sized 64MP photos with no crop or will a 3rd party camera app allow it?
3.) Can a camera app be modded to take 16MP photos at the wide angle using pixel binning with 4 pixels into one to make 16PM 1.6µm photos?
Thanks,
Kris
This is a picture straight from 64MP Camera I didn't check for wide angel outside of normal photos

Yeah, I can confirm this....the zoom isn't that impressive in my opinion but at least you have an option of taking a full 64mpx photo for extra crop if needed and if main lens is unable to.
3x is where this phone maxes out per my tests.
Also native camera allows to take full 64mpx photos.
How this 64 Mpix mode is behaving with close objects? Is it have bettery sharpness on corners when compare to main 12 Mpix Wide camera?

Most images come out at 7.2mp

I have an unlocked S20 Ultra here in the US. For some reason most of my images come out at 400x1800 Does not matter if its f3.5 or f2.2 or f1.8 which I assume shows which camera it comes from. The 108mp works at 12000x9000 and pro comes out at 4000x3000. But if I try to zoom or wide it always comes out at 4000x1800. What am I doing wrong. Or is this a function of the software.
0.5x,1x,4x,5x,10x,30x, and 100x all come out at 7.2mp.

thanks
Try in 3:4 ratio.

I was using Full Mode before. I thought it meant it was using the full sensor. Guess that was wrong.
Now In 3.:4 mode I get only 12mp images. Not the 48mp that is supposed to be with the telephoto camera.
All files now depending on F1.8, f2.2 or f3.5 are 12mp.
I think that you can only get 12 mp from periscope camera because of pixel binning. There is no option for 48 to toggle as on main camera for 108mp.Maybe if someone know a way to switch to 48mp periscope write it down but i think that that is impossible.
