[Q] Unlock bootloader + root without data wipe?

Is their a method of unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone (Verizon LTE Version) without losing my data and settings? I want to install cwm and flash a few tweaks but at his point do not want to have to set the phone back up again. Not having root and cwm prevents the back up I need. Is their a way to back up the data partition without root and restore it later after the unlock and root?
You only lose data when you unlock the bootloader and from what I have read you need to unlock the bootloader to get root. You can backup the contents of your /sd card/ so you can backup your app data but I don't think you'll be able to keep system data. If you have a Google account synced it keeps most of this backed up anyway though.
That is the way I understand it as well, was hoping that their would be a better way to do it. I have transferred over 10 gigs of pictures and music t the phone and with mpt it took loooooong time to transfer all that stuff. I know google will restore the apps and some settings like wifi, but then one has to open all the apps you need a log in for and set them up as well.
havent really used MTP much so i dont know whats faster that or transferring over FTP.. maybe that could help you a bit
No. Bootloader unlock = wipe. No questions, no two ways around it.
adb pull /mnt/sdcard *
Back up the whole sdcard partition.

Factory Reset isn't Factory?

I tried doing a Factory Data Reset in the settings menu and CWM factory reset and wipe. The phone still has all app data and folders for stuff. What gives??
A CWM wipe protects the internal "SDcard" so that people don't delete their music and pictures when switching ROMs. You have to wipe that too to get rid of everything.

Patter Forgotten... Can't Access Settings file

Hello,
I have an HTC One X with loads of data as it had internal memory of 32 GB. Recently one of the kids in my house kept attempting pattern and it got locked. I have the option to sign in through gmail which I did but to no avail probably as my phone is not connected to any wifi. How can I access my phone without losing data? If I wipe cache or factory reset will that remove data on my phone? Is there any way I can do this without losing data? IT is NOT rooted.
I have found out about ADB and sqlite but I don't know how to use them plz explain anyone. I need your help
Some of your data is likely saved in the cloud, like contacts and hangouts chat. If you were only able to install a custom recovery, you could transfer all your data.

No it's not saved anywhere that's the issue. I would need to have to use a tool to do that which I think is not possible.

TWRP asks for my password and I can't install the files? I'll show you the pictures

So I done everything like unlocking the bootloader and around the first 10 minutes of this video youtube.com/watch?v=U0nxfD_Ewzo . The thing is when I'm at the menu it asks for my password to decrypt data which I have never set before soon I only got this phone(Moto G5) today specifically for rooting. I done wipe>format data then reboot but it still stays the same. I click cancel and when I try to install the files it just comes up with a bunch of red writings saying something like "unable to mount storage". I really want to root this phone which is the only reason why I got it. What should I do? If I can root this then I would be extremely happy and thankful. Below are the pictures and sorry if they look blurry because the phones camera is bad but I could take another picture if I have to.

You need to format data to remove encryption or enter your encryption code
Wipe - format data (option on the right)
Do Not advanced wipe data as this does not remove encryption unless you change partition type and then change it back again
Alternatively you can put your phone into fastboot mode and connect to pc and in a pc terminal/cmd window type
fastboot erase userdata
Note this deletes all data off phone including anything stored in internal storage
Once you can mount data you can then flash the latest magisk to root

URGENT##Factory Reset issue after upgrade A11 OOS

Hi All,
Need urgent help.
I had upgraded to A11 OOS and was running with root and custom kernel(bluespark).
I wanted to start afresh as there was some laginess with change from A10 to A11 without loosing data , so i did below steps
1. Remove PIN from Settings.
2. Selected option of Factory Reset / Erase Data (unselecting option to delete internal data like pics, songs, movies etc)
3. System automatically restarts
Issue is now im stuck in screen where it asks me to Enter PIN. Theres a option for "Forget Password" , when i click on it It says it will delete all internal data like pics, songs, etc
Even after force restarts it straightaway goes to same screen.
I really need my data as i havent backedup my pics especially.
Can anyone help me. @Lossyx @HueyT
