me neither, my warranty is over next august. and i've upgraded to MIUI12. you should weigh inbetween how long you have to wait before you can unlock in case it is not upto ur expectations. I've upgraded and found no show stoppers. battery drain is marginally worse, but i've gained on floating windows

Question about warranty and root

If I root my mobile, do I lose my warranty? if so why because it only changes the software layer.
Because they can.
Sucks don't it.
By the way. A void warranty does NOT affect your statutory rights.
Un-rooting is easy enough, if you ever need to send it back.

The problem with that is that the reason you will want to claim on your warranty is because your phone has failed in some way. Often, that failure can mean you can't unroot.
However, in my experience, HTC don't check the firmware of completely dead devices.

Unfortunately for Telus users, there's no way to return back to stock. There is currently no 2.1 RUU for SLCD screens, let alone a specific one to telus.
I had some dead pixels on my Telus Desire, it was rooted, and i just exchanged it in store and noone even turned it on. I doubt you will ever encounter any trouble, as most of the front end staff won't know what rooting looks like.

How to manage Ram stock Rom not rooted ?

Hello guys,
i've just bought this wonderfull device and i'm loving it...
so much that despite my signature i'm thinking to stay stock and not rooted for a while
but
i notice ram load gets around 1.1 gb out of 1.7 gb frquently and that loads of "bloatware apps" get in the ram memory.
now since i'm not rooted, is there any app or way to choose which apps must not open and get in the ram automatically ?
thanks
Not any effective way without root, I think. Task killers would only make the apps restart constantly and drain your battery. Greenify is really the best solution, but needs root.
However I must point out that unused ram is wasted ram. I've seen many users fanatic about keeping ram usage low, it's like having a huge gas tank on a car, but never filling more than a litre of gas.

No such productive app until you root your device .
Best thing is to root.
Worst thing is to Task Manager.
:good:
ok guys, so i guess going over 1gb of used ram is routine and not overloading
so for the time being i'll leave it as it is
thanks all

Just to remind you again, don't use RAM/Application killers. It's not effective and will make you consume more battery.

You can delete some bloatwares in an official firmware from your PC and then you flash via Odin.

I suggest stick to what you have now and if you decide to root, then it will be a piece of cake.
You can always go back to stock Samsung if you are just afraid of losing warranty.
yes i agree
but just so that i know :
OFFICIALLY, when you first root your phone, you have lost warranty once and forever ? i know you can flash back to stock and nobody will notice
it's just to understand properly how it works

This is not right for a few months:
Legality
Australia
Rooting of any device is legal if the purpose is to run legal apps
Europe
The Free Software Foundation Europe argues that it is legal to root or flash any device. According to the European Directive 1999/44/CE, replacing the original operating system with another does not void the statutory warranty that covers the hardware of the device for two years unless the seller can prove that the modification caused the defect.
United States
On July 26, 2010, the United States Copyright Office announced a new exemption making it officially legal to root a device and run unauthorized third-party applications, as well as the ability to unlock any cell phone for use on multiple carriers.
On October 28, 2012, the US Copyright Office updated their exemption policies. The rooting of smartphones continues to be legal "where circumvention is accomplished for the sole purpose of enabling interoperability of [lawfully obtained software] applications with computer programs on the telephone handset." However, the U.S. Copyright office refused to extend this exemption to tablets, arguing that the term "tablets" is broad and ill-defined, and an exemption to this class of devices could have unintended side effects

[Q] Question about warranty when unlocking bootloader and installing custom ROMS

Will I really lose my warranty if I unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMS?
And will I get back my warranty if I relock the boot loader and flash stock ROM?
Asus can't see I flashed my device in the past if I have stock ROM with locked bootloader, can they?
Can anyone tell me how this works exactly?
Everywhere I read I MAY risk to lose warranty.
Thanks in advance!

No (well...can go either way)
Yes (although you don't really lose it in the first place)
Once you've flashed the factory image and relocked the bootloader, no they can't (only Nexus to have a tamper flag is the N5)
That warning is standard on all unlockable devices. It's a standard disclaimer they put on there just like any other company would (to cover their butts). However, I do see where the company is coming from. I've seen noobs unlock and start flashing, and then end up messing their device up beyond recovery. They then feel they have the right to get it repaired free of charge. If you know what you are doing, chances are good you'll be fine. If something is actually defective, and as long as you still have to ability to flash stock image and relock, you're good. That being said, I've also read stories of people getting RMAs successfully even though they were unlocked/rooted/ROMed. As long as you can make a case that the defect wasn't caused by your own doing, I would imagine you'd be okay.

If you should ever need to bring your N7 to the service within the warranty, you will flash a stock ROM, unroot and lock the bootloader. Then you're 100% stock again with no sign of mods.
Do you have a N7 razor 2013?

Good. Yes, it is probably razor flo, check to be sure. I have the same one. Just keep in mind to save all your data and settings elswhere as unlocking the bootloader for the first time will instantly wipe whole your tab and poasibly even corrupt the /data partition.
I have written this morning how to get out of it in one other N7 thread.

root info?

Hey all!
I'm new to Samsung completely, I have experience rooting, as I've had multiple Nexus devices, and other rootable phones. Just never had a Samsung. I recently took the Oreo OTA update, and was wondering about the best rooting method? Ive read that you lose secret folder. Is there a way to keep that?
Basically I just want to debloat more and theme without having to use Andromeda, as that is annoying.

Yes it will work fine on oreo, as long as the 2nd to last number of the version you are on isn't a 3. Example:
Good: G950USQU2CRB7
Not Good: G950USQU3CRC6
^-- That right there is a no no for now
But afaik there is so rom in existence for 950u with a 3 there. Just something to watch for in the future.
You don't need to flash back to nougat stock first either. Your should be able to go straight to pcr. If you have trouble with the first step you can try flashing part 2 first, followed by 1 then 2 again, but i fine expect you will have any issues.

Not exactly, this is a root/rom combo. So it will downgrade you back to Nougat version 2 bootloader firmware, root your device, and flash a ROM all at the same time. So there is no way to flash a different ROM since the rooting process and ROM flashing is built into one step.

True, but if anyone is still lucky enough to be on version 2 bootloader on Oreo they still can downgrade to Nougat version 2 bootloader and use that Root/ROM combo to root their device since it works on ver. 2 bootloader but not 3. And yeah, screw Verizon!

Yeah its flashing an engineered firmware, and it trips knox which is needed for secure folder I think. I looked on my S8+ and couldn't find secure folder anywhere, so I'm guessing the ROM removes it.

Whatever happened to those days. S**t, the last few ROMs I was flashing on the N6 were all pretty much the same. I miss being pissed off that one rom had all the things I wanted but looked hideous. Then everything got CM based and themes were everywhere. Then it all just got the same. Then it all got locked down. Almost like Android and Google were playing the devs getting them to make the mods, then them steal them, and incorporate them, then lock it down.

I'm sorry for this basic question, but does the phone being carrier unlocked make any difference? I know that has nothing to do with the bootloader; I'm simply asking if the phone not being Verizon-specific has any effect on rootability ... I was just about to purchase an unlocked S8+ when I saw this thread and almost spewed Mountain Dew all over my monitor. I had no idea Verizon had squelched root, although no surprise there, right?

You are misinformed. 9 series to nearly current anything one ui 3.0 and lower can be bootloader unlocked and rooted.
Nothing is enough to prevent a brick. There is no oem unlock. No fast boot.
