Question Original Firmware? > Moto E 2020 - Moto E (2020)

Hello,
I rooted and put Lineage on my Moto E 2020 but I decided to go back to the original firmware (for now) only to discover that Motorola does not seem to offer it. Does anyone know if I've overlooked this or someplace where I can get the original firmware?
Thanks

Moto G5 XT1677 - OTA not working

I had flashed stock rom on my Moto G5 XT1677. So it is now on retus channel, with Nov 2017 security patch. However, I see March 2018 patch is already out, but when I check on my phone, it says your software is up to date. How do I fix this ?

My baseband has a string INDIADSDS_CUST, so probably it was retin.
Is there a retin stock rom available somewhere which I can use.

As per the screenshot, you have a Moto G5 Plus i.e. Potter not Moto G5 Cedric. This thread is about Moto G5 Cedric retin stock image.

OTAs work on all stock rom firmware
Just because you are not receiving an ota doesn't mean its not working - It means it's not available in your country or for your variant
Just because an ota is available in one country doesn't mean its available in another country or for every variant of a device

Thanks for the detailed explanation. However, as I explained in the first post, I have the stock rom retus, and retus has already released April 2018 security patch. My phone doesn't show it, and is stuck on Nov 2017 patch. How do I identify, if my phone is not eligible, or if there is some other issue.
I had flashed the stock firmware from - https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G5/Stock/XT1677/
Is there any other stock rom that works ?

Are you located in the country to which the firmware you are using is from? If not you may not get the update - you could try using a vpn to that country
Also the device variant you are using may not have that update available
Eg the XT1675 may have the update available and the XT1677 doesn't

Well after I flashed the stock ROM, my software channel changed to retus (earlier was retin). I tried US VPNs as well, but still no updates. retin has already released Mar 2018 security patch, which my phone is not receiving - https://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/in/ei/Solution/MS127237
Hence, is there a way to switch the channel to retin from retus, or is there a stock rom for retin which I can use. Thank you.

It doesn't matter what channel you are on - that's only part of the process
There are also different varients of the device - for example the UK is XT1675
Just because you flashed the retus firmware doesn't mean you will get updates if there is no update for your variant
You would have to flash a different varients firmware manually (this may cause issues with band frequencies)
Thanks everyone. I manually applied all OTA patches as described in post - https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/how-to/cedric-ota-archive-t3795275

I just need some clarification as I don't fully understand what are trying to say
retin just means I imagine you are a retail India software channel
If you own a moto g5 plus Potter you have posted in the wrong forum

retin just means I imagine you are a retail India software channel - are you saying that you own a moto g5 cedric & since updating to oreo with the soak test ota your device now displays as a moto g5 plus potter?
If that is the case then Motorola have just mucked up the build.prop - these are just text lines and can be changed to display anything you like in about phone

All moto devices will have a retin software channel (if sold in India)
Ret means it's a retail device (instead of an Amazon device)
in - means it's an Indian varient
So both moto g5 and g5 plus will have a retin software channel

You can change the channel just by flashing a stock rom firmware from a different country
Obviously when you bought the phone from Amazon it came with Amazon firmware so it would display amazin
When your motherboard was replaced they flashed retail firmware on it so that's why it now shows retin
You can flash what ever firmware you like (assuming that there's no phone frequencies that are different or not compatible between countries)
As long as your phone is unmodified (no custom rom/recovery root etc) you will be able to ota update

No - the ota looks for the build number of the current version installed - if the ota is for the Amazon varient you will need that firmware installed
You won't damage your device if you try & flash an ota in stock recovery that is for the wrong firmware - it simply won't flash and gives an error about the wrong firmware version detected
Unless the ota updates both Amazon & retail varients it won't work

Only if you're flashing gpt or bootloader parts - unless you need to change these there's no need to flash them
There is always a risk in anything you do - if you don't know what you're doing use Google YouTube or just stay on stock unmodified

Stuck on NPPS25.137-93-12, no update, need help

I've the moto G5 XT1677 dual sim
Software variant - amzin
Software channel - retin
Build No. - NPPS25.137-93-12
Android version - Nougat 7.0 (Stock)
I haven't got any update after the may security patch. Talked to their customer service but they couldn't do anyhing.
So, is there any way to update my phone to the latest version without rooting?
This is my last resort. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

The update is rolling out slowly as I am also having the same device. But you can update it using lenovo moto smart assistant, as it will update your mobile.

I just tried to update it through that software, it said "No upgrade task".
One more thing, can the retail build NPPS25.137-93-2-5 be flashed on top of amzin build no. NPPS25.137-93-12? and after that the oreo zip? as these files are available for retail channel but not for amzin.

I don't recommend using LMSA, it can flash wrong firmware
This thread is wrong for various reasons
1. This is the Moto E 2020 not 2021
2. It links to my lineage builds instead of the Stock Firmware mentioned in the title
3. I've had reports LMSA wrongly identifying this device and bricking it, which is why it is recommended to just use fastboot. LMSA is also a very buggy piece of software...

Maybe this person wanted to get his post count higher or get likes, since he posted on a lot of Motorola devices about the Stock ROM, even if he does not own the device.
