Malware removal - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Themes, Apps, and Mod

Hello everybody!
I keep getting the itscythera. com malware on my phone and cannot remove it.
Surfing on internet,I was advised to install malwarebytes software and reset the chrome browser.I did both -malwarebytes did not detect it and reset the chrome did not resolve the problem so the itscythera malware is still on my phone.
Does anybody have any idea how I can remove it?
Thanks in advance,
Arye
P.S - bitdefender antivirus is installed on my phone and did not detect it,too.

Try clearing cache from recovery too
Look in your list of apps for anything suspicious and uninstall
Otherwise a factory reset

Unlikely it's a rootkit that can survive a factory reset on Pie or above.
It may been in the OP's database which is a problem if it's undefined and it's location is unknown.
OP: it may be coming from a 3rd party app you installed. Try running in safe mode just for giggles. Review recently installed apps especially anything side loaded.

First dont use antivirus on android, first it's fake and it only detects package names and max urls, secondly don't install apks from random sites you don't know or allow notifications from websites which needs it to let you use their site.

Lol, you are what you install...
Back out of malicious sites, don't click any buttons on the site. Close browser page if necessary or even the browser. Wipe browser data if it locks up or behaves abnormally.
Never allow auto downloads or installs from browsers. Keep install from files disabled unless needed.
Check Download folder daily for anything that snuck by that you didn't download, it happens very rarely but occasionally.
Delete without opening.

Verizon SMT5800

I want to keep this phone but have issues. I pulled the battery cover, back of phone is a HTC SMT5800VW, LIBR100. It won't let me install several RD party apps, get this message "Installation was unsuccessful the program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permission. Apps are for windows 6 for smart-phone. Also with resco reg-edit I know of the keys to change security, but it won/t let me change the values for the keys, so I can install apps like Java so I can use opera mini. I know for a fact that the apps I want to install will work on other carriers version of this phone. Also this same apps PDA versions will install on Verizion version of the HTC. I assume they have locked the phone somehow. I had some of these same issues with my Motorola Q, but after making registry changes I could. On the Q I also used Microsoft Security Configuration Manager to change provision but no go with the SMT5800. Could some please help or point me in the right direction. If I can't install the software I want phone is going back. Thanks .
I too have this phone and I am getting the same "does not have sufficient system permissions" error when trying to install certain apps. Anyone know how to unlock the phone?
Fix
Goto this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280710
See post #2 in that link. Then download the attached file: cert_install_sp.zip. Then Unzip. Then run the included file on the SMT5800: SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab. This will resolve the issue. You don't need to use the included SDA unlock tool. Just load the cab file.
It Worked!!! Thanks!

Installation of cab files throws errors

Hi. I just recently purchased an HTC Touch Pro2 from T-Mobile running WinMo 6.5. That being said, I have not been able to open any cab files on the device to install some software. Basically I'll transfer the cab to the device and attempt to open it. I get one of three messages depending on the app I guess. the most basic is "Installation was unsuccessful" to "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting...not digitally signed...trusted certificate" (this was from MobileFTPClient). Installing Opera Mini 5 gives a simple: "Installation of mini5wm.cab was unsuccessful".
Ok, so being a software developer for 10 years I've been looking into some registry values and can't seem to find what I need to get anything to install. If I download from the Windows Marketplace that's all good, but nothing else.
What do I need to do to be able to install cab flils directly? Honestly if I can't get this to work this phone is going back. I moved from an iPhone to this phone specifically so I can install apps and monkey around with the device, but so far I'm done before I started.
Thanks for any info you can give me.
its in one of your phone/device settings to let u download and install apps or cabs not digitally signed. thats all, i believe. just find it and check it off. or look for advanced config cab if u can find it and install that. it has an option in there also to let u download/install whatever..

The cab I have attached may help you...it's some SDK certificates that will allow installation of certain unsigned apps, but I don't know if this is what the ones you're running are requiring and missing. It won't harm anything to try this one, and you can easily uninstall it if it doesn't do the trick
Thanks guys. Sirphunkee - that cab actually installed, but I'm having the same problem. Another forum has suggested that I take the device back to T-Mobile, but it just seems like there's a setting that's not right in the OS. Demandarin - I've looked for various security permissions in the UI with no luck. I've mucked around with some Policy values in the registry per some threads on this forum, but still nothing.
I'll keep trying, and thanks.
So...weird; Opera Mini and Weather Bug (well known apps) wouldn't install, but an SMS notification disable cab installed (from the xda site) as did Evernote (evernote.com). I have no clue what the deal is, but it's getting beyond stupid that I can't install just any cab file.

Have you already installed .Net 3.5? It's a framework that many other programs use (and need) to install, and it's not on the TP2 by default...it's the only other think I could think of that would keep you from installing stuff. Cab is attached, if you don't have it already.
Got it. I installed the Device Security Manager PowerToy and was able to change the configuration there. Opera Mini 5 just installed.
Never would have thought the phone would come that locked down, but so far so good. Thanks for all of the ideas.

Thank you for your interest to help.
It looks as if this tool by software locks the storage card.
In the bootloader mode is selected 16GB like the size from the storagecard.
I don't have an HTC device (I have the Samsung Omnia 7), and I want to understand what happens after you use the StorageFullTool.xap
From the source code, it calls driver2.myIOCTL_SetStorageFullStatus(false, ref uRetStatus); then driver2.myIOCTL_ClearStorage(ref uRetStatus); to clear the storage it seems.
The same source code has a function called Thread_EnableFullTest which calls simply driver2.myIOCTL_SetStorageFullStatus(true, ref uRetStatus);
and driver2.myIOCTL_ClearStorage(ref uRetStatus);
The question now is, can you use your device at all? if yes can you install apps on it?

"r2: Superboot" not working

Tried to post this in the developers forum in the correct thread but I'm restricted - sorry mods but if you could move this post, that would be ace?
I've tried following the instructions for using the r2: Superboot process to root my phone, but having trouble with it.
I've installed the drivers that came in the zip - with the phone switched on as normal, Windows recognises it no problem, as does ADB. When I put the phone into the bootloader, Windows doesn't recognise it - showing in device manager as "Android 1.0" and making a funny beep as the USB is plugged in. Neither ADB or Fastboot recognise the phone as being attatched.
Just bought the phone today, sim free, in the UK, so possibly a different hardware or software version to those who've got it working?
When running normally, "About Phone" shows as Android version 4.0.1, Kernel 3.0.1-ge2433f2 [email protected] #1 and Build number ITL41D.
In the bootloader it shows Fastboot Mode, Product Name - tuna, Varient - magura, HW Version 9, Bootloader Version - PRIMEKJ10, Signing - production, Lock State - locked.
Anyone got any ideas where to go from here?
Thanks
Make sure you turn on ADB Debugging from the settings menu and plug it into your pc.
Then run:
adb devices
See if its there. If so, continue
You need to force the drivers to install in fastboot mode first. Download the 'drivers' files from *THIS* forum and try them it worked for me (make sure you are in fastboot mode when you install them). You will also need to unlock the bootloader first which will wipe your phone including sdcard so make sure you have any files you need backed up first.
Mark.
Ah, fella, you're a superstar!
Done it now, can tweak my phone just how I want it now.

I have been assuming that 'wipe your phone' means wipe it of anything the user has put on it, but that the OS remains; is that correct?
Yeh, it resets it to the same state as when you first get the phone, wiping any personal data and any changes you've made to the system
Have to say I'm impressed though, it remembered by Wifi password and downloaded all my apps again without me doing anything! I'm liking ICS so far!

Your passwords and all your list of apps from the market are stored under your google account so when you sign back in on a new phone (or wiped one) and synch with your phone all your market apps under that account are re-downloaded and certain information is restored.

Could be you didn't enable personal data backup, or Sense doesn't do that (my guess)
And the Chrome bookmark sync is one of the things I'm definitely looking forward to with ICS I know I can do it with some apps right now but having features be native is always nice

mi a2 lite crashes and freezes since December 2019 pie update. (benchmark logs)

Hi
Since installing the December 2018 update to Android Pie last week my phone has become unusable. It freezes for 5-10s period all the time while using. Sometime, when it wakes back up again, there is a message on the lock screen that says 'you need to unlock using pattern after reboot' which makes me think the phone is crashing and rebooting itself while the screen stays frozen.
I have done a factory reset twice. In fact, directly after the December 2018 update, the phone got stuck in a boot loop and I had to factory reset then, as well.
Anyway I did some research on here and have run Androbench as people seem to be blaming poor write performance. See image.
Please - what can I do? Roll back to an earlier version of Android? The phone has worked perfectly for months until last week.
Many thanks.
you could try to reflash the latest pie rom with miflashtool. if you tick "flash all expect storage" you wont 't lose any data
download the latest rom from website, extract the image folder with contents inside and add this flashall.bat to the image folder contents, https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqlJY73bUA7rhokx5kWL6MAtXYDRTg . This will completely flash the whole phone without relocking the bootloader. I had exact same issue after using twrp to make a nand, its had something to do with accessing firmware while making backup, i think this will sort your phone out, dont use miflashtool its a total mess. Dont mess with flash order, ppl may say it doesnt matter what order its done, but it does matter. Instructions are, assuming you have adbtools, to use admin cmd prompt to the image folder and type flashall.bat, you need to add adb platformtools to windows system variables path.
Brilliant - thanks for the reply. What you suggest is probably on the limit of my skills and experience, so I have a few questions if that is OK:

Thanks, I will check that platform tools is in the system variables path. Maybe it will become clear, but I can't remember if the rom image needs to be stored on the phone or PC before I start?

After fixing itself last time (with a factory reset), my phone's performance has gone absolutely again since the September update. It hangs constantly, takes 10 mins to turn on, and is generally unusable. Memory logs below.
This time nothing I have tried will fix it, I have tried: factory reset from bootloader, miflash to latest rom, using fastboot to flash latest rom, using the modified flash_all.bat from boe323 (thanks for your help last time).
Still the performance is dreadful.
Is there anything else I can try before I throw this phone away?
Thanks anyone for helping

If nothing helps , just use MiFlash , and don't use clear all , use clear all_lock.Relock your bootloader and test if everything is working ok. If it doesn't - then I hope you have warranty. Relocking and unlocking the bootloader is so easy , so you don't have to be worried about nothing. Then you will be sure , if the problem presists with totally stock firnware , then you have only one choice.
thanks - trying this now
Downloaded your app and tested it on my perfectly working device. No problems at all, no hangs, fluid, etc.
I attached the results.
If you flashed stock ROM and the speeds are that horrible... you should check if any apps are causing the hangs. Reboot in SafeMode and check the speeds. If the phone behaves normally in SafeMode, than something you installed/configured is causing the said problems.
The last solution would be... checking the NAND chip, I don't quite know if there are apps that could check the sectors in the NAND memory. Maybe you are experiencing a bad nand/multiple bad sectors slowing down everything... But from my knowledge this shouldn't be a problem in current technology, since Android has auto-trim and bad sectors should be ignored, not affecting performance.
From my experience August update fixed the problems and September brought a system speed-up. I feel the phone even more snappy now.
Thank you for this. My phone is fine in Safe Mode! I didn't think of this, as when I was relfashing the Rom I wasn't installing any additional apps - just the Androbench to check performance (always after checking that the problem was happening).
So, what to do? Does this mean that one of the Stock ROM apps? is causing the issue? How to fix?
Many thanks for your help

Get an app like System Panel 2. Set it to monitor all apps/system activity and check where the hangs comes from. Maybe even AndroBench is the culprit in your case.
Anyway, get a system monitor app that can log all app activity individually and see which app has the most cpu usage and which app has the most disk usage.
But by the fact that your phone is running extremely slow after reflash, I suspect the back-up/restore system. Maybe it downloads some corrupt data and hangs the system. If that is the case, a new Google Account may fix the problem. Start fresh.
OMG I took the memory card out and everything is working fantastic again
