Question Dual Sim North American For OP Pro 9 - OnePlus 9 Pro

The specs page says Pro 9 has dual Sim but all the press reviews say that the US Version will have only single sim. Does anyone know? If 9 Pro unlocked NA version is 1 sim I'm pretty bummed and pissed off, especially since my order tech sheet says dual sim.

I was just looking at the spec page on their website, and it says "Single nano-SIM slot". Fire up my VPN and go to the UK page, dual sim. Also, black version not available on US store.

I'm currently on the fence, mostly cause my current phone works and performs fine. But if I do, I'll post here.

I can report, I just got my US variant (AA) and the dual sim tray slot on the backside like normal had a plastic bar preventing the use of dual SIM...I wonder if it's also disabled in software as well if one were to get a dual sim card tray...

I just tried my dual SIM tray from my OnePlus 8 Pro and it will only recognize a SIM in the front slot. I assume the functionality is disabled in the rom.
BTW, the 8 Pro SIM tray doesn't quite go in all the way, it has a thicker red gasket for sealing than the 9 Pro does. It still works, just not flush with the body of the phone.

I tried this as well, same result. It is hard to remove the 8 Pro SIM tray from the 9 Pro if you push it in.
Is the international ROM available to flash? I want to see if flashing that will make it recognize the second SIM with the 8 Pro's SIM tray.

I am very interested in this as well. I pre-ordered this phone because it said it was Dual-SIM for the USA. The following day, they edited it back to single-SIM.
If this can be worked around via getting a dual-SIM tray and flashing the global ROM, maybe I won't have to return it after all.

I can't believe we even have to have this discussion with a $1000 phone from a brand that has always had dual sim functionality. Argggggg...... It's going to make my head explode!

Right? The whole reason I splashed out for a carrier-free "premium" phone was to not be held down by any idiotic restrictions- but lo and behold OnePlus bent over backwards for T-Mobile. The worst part is that it's literally the same hardware, we just got a single-slot SIM tray and software to lock us out of the second slot.
It boils my blood that you can see the second set of SIM contacts in there and can't use them without jumping through hoops.
Mine's sitting in the damn box still, because I'm not using it until I know I can utilize both SIMs I have on it.

I suspect it's Verizon's fault to forcing it as Single SIM on the software side. Verizon gimped previous Android models in a similar way previously. Pixel 3 eSIM was disabled on Verizon-sold models, and they forced OnePlus to make separate variants of the OnePlus 8 for both Verizon and Visible.
They knew OnePlus would want it certified for 5G mmWave, and that was probably Verizon's 'terms' for getting it cleared.

This is actually a very good point that I hadn't considered. I hate how anti-choice the US wireless market is.

the second sim does not even fit in the the sim slot, it kinda looks like a microSD can but I don't have one to try.
Yeah I was kinda upset about this too, b/c I used my OP7Pro for personal and work phone with 2 sims.

The tray has been deliberately rendered useless on the second side. I tried it with the tray from the 8 Pro which fits two SIMs properly, but the software won't recognize the second SIM.

So frustrating. US telcos need more consumer-friendly regulation so they can't engage in anti-competitive behavior like this.
I put mine back in the box. Offering it to my wife to use, and if she doesn't, this is going back for a refund. Ordered the exact same phone from Amazon Italy, that should have dual SIM. ETA Apr 1-2.

That's not a bad idea, I think I'll do the same since I know my wife doesn't need dual-SIM. She probably won't want it though, haha. Let us know how that works out, if it's smooth sailing then I might just do that as well. I wish I knew this before ordering from OP directly, I'd have just gone to Amazon first.

Just a heads up bro.
If you live in North America like me ordering the OnePlus 9 series from Amazon Italy makes no sense as their variant is UK version which misses many LTE & 5G bands that we need in USA & Canada! I almost put the order through before noticed that is a UK variant.

The bands are almost always different. I think they do it on purpose so people in North America are stunted if they do a gray market purchase.
Why does the North American models have 5G band 78 for the EU but they don't have 71 or n260, etc.. They do it on purpose to screw us over.

Damn, man- this got me thinking, so I threw together a quick comparison graphic of the bands, which are missing in their respective models. Top is from the US OP page, bottom is from Spain's.
I was planning on using mine with Verizon, looks like that might not be a good idea.
Looks like the NA version should work in EU with minimal problem, but the EU version is missing many NA bands. 100% due to carrier pressure, disgusting.
If anyone can manage to successfully enable the second SIM slot of a NA variant, that looks like the way to go.

I search around and found that iphone US version are also single sim and they are able to make it to dual sim only if they open the phone and replace the actualy sim inserted piece on the motherboard. I watched the tear apart video of oneplus 9 pro which the sim card piece on the motherboard is also detachable without remove the whole motherboard. I think the would work. Simply use a dual sim tray would not work.

'snaps'?
from ca, usa
snapdragon soc, the ones in usa and canada
I had a snap dragon version, got rid of it and got dual Sim card. Root, battery, dual sim, no bloat. Never looked back
yes, but I think jd342423 from california usa, wants an opinion about getting an international note7, well,
an exynos model is said to be more batt efficient, it was rooted earlier than snapdragons, but, it would present a potentially risk of no warranty support, I would get one of my region, I have taken several devices to my carrier, who only accepts the ones officially sold in my country

Yes but with major drawbacks and limitations.
Hardly your "standard" root method.
I have an FD unit but got it from a store locally seemed a better option than ebay etc.if i have any issues with it i can deal with them face to face instead of trying to get someone over the internet to help with the issue.
Its kind of hard to ignore or screw a customer when hes standing 2 ft from you lol

Buying a US version of the S9 and using in the UK

Hi All,
I have my unlocked pre-order S9 sitting on my table here in London but have ended up needing to travel for work to Chicago this weekend.
The obvious thought that came to mind is - "can I buy one in the states, save the best part of £150 and use it back in the UK?". I thought that as they're quad-band or whatever they are that a US variant would still work fine - could anyone confirm if that is the case?
I spoke to a samsung helpdesk person and they said no but genuinely didn't sound like they knew what they were talking about...
Are there any other considerations that I should be taking in to account, e.g. Exynos vs Snapdragon? I've done a bunch of Googling but not come across anything definitive.
Thanks in advance folks.
Pete
Think you may not be able to as samsung region lock their phones
So you would have to put an America SIM in the phone whether you can change that after first activation I don't know
Also aren't the American bands different to the UK??

Thanks for getting back to me, looking at the S8 it appears that you could sort the region lock by placing a 5 minute phone call using a US carrier so that's something that I can do whilst I'm away.
The bands are different in the states vs here but that being said my UK phone works when I take it abroad. I thought that the fact that these are multi-band phones that they work elsewhere.
Pete
i had bought a S5 back in the day from the states and used it in india and it worked great(it was unlocked), you do however need to make a 5 min phone call after which you can use it elsewhere in the world.
Thanks! So I guess the remaining questions considerations are then:
Can I get the hybrid SIM version in the states?
Is having the Snapdragon vs Exynos going to impact anything?
Are there any other material differences that you guys would be thinking about?
I've done plenty of googling on this but there isn't too much useful stuff that I've come across.
1. yes, get the G960U or G965U (unless you mean dual sim in this case i dont know)
2. snapdragon has a faster gpu, slightly slower cpu, and locked bootloader so you can't flash custom roms...
3. Yep see 2 ;P
As someone in the US I'm ordering one from the UK just because of the bootloader.
Thanks pal! I'll open up my preorder that I have then!!
I don't believe dual sim is available in the US

I think you are right. I spent a good chunk of time yesterday on the internet researching and could not seem to find anywhere that sold it.
I cracked my UK one open yesterday, very smart piece of kit although moving from an S8 there were no real surprises.
I popped my work SIM in alongside my personal one to see how it all works, the dual SIM functionality is really really good. Very impressed with the way that it works, gives 2 whatsapps, etc. Would definitely recommend.
Thanks to everyone that responded and helped.

G9860 (HK or TAIWAN) for use in the UK... questions

Hi, apologies for starting a new thread on this. I've asked the questions but can't get a definitive answer so hoping this will help me and other prospective buyers.
I have 2 options. Buy from wondamobile and get the HK version (TGY csc) or buy from T-dimension and get the Taiwan version (BRI csc)
Both are dual sim 128gb. However I want to be able to use both an sd card and a 5g sim. I'm seeing reports that even after the latest firmware update, you can only get 5g if you put the sim in sim slot 2. Is that true because I wouldn't get it if I can't add an sd card as 128gb is nowhere enough space and I don't like saving my pics to the cloud and my WhatsApp media folder just grows and grows as I like to keep old stuff.
So really:
1) can I use both sim slot and sd card and still get 5g here in the UK (EE). I've checked and the 5g band n78 is what ee use so it will pick up the 5g signal
2) does it matter which version I get, hk or taiwan?
3) even though wondamobile say volte and WiFi calling won't work, I think with the latest update they do work. Is that right?
4) is t-dimension OK to buy from?
Thanks!
So I bought from t-dimensions via eBay (G9860). They are based in HK so u assumed I would get the HK version, however I got the BRI version. As people have said in other threads, there's no option to select 5g on this model as there is no 5g in Taiwan yet.
I changed the CSC from BRI to TGY using Sankey using a guide on this forum - was relatively simple process and didn't wipe my phone - I can now select 5g for both sim 1 and sim 2 - whether I can actually get 5g I don't know. While passing through a 5g area, I didn't catch a 5g reception, only 4g plus (I'm on a Vodafone 5g tariff) so I'm not entirely sure. My Vodafone SIM was in sim 2 tray.
Also both Google pay and Samsung pay work. For Samsung pay, when signing up you have some Chinese writing, but after that it's all English and you can add UK cards to your account. You will see a Chinese banner with HK ads thou.
WiFi calling works for me, volte doesn't appear to despite it being selected.
Not really answered your questions, but hopefully my experience is helpful

That helps a lot! How was your experience with t-dimension in terms of delivery. I heard they also ask for ID which I'm hesitant to send to China lol.
Interesting about the 5g too. I'll need another person to share their experience in relation to it working. I know I read one guy on here say it only works in sim 2, but they never mentioned if the option was also there for sim slot 1 and that they selected it but didn't pick up anything. 5g can be dodgy so who knows.
Samsung pay and Google pay I don't use anyway so fine with that not working. I think the same guy mentioned volte worked on ee... Again I dunno which sim slot or if it matters, or if you need a base hk model like his. Is there any reason why you have yours in sim 2 by default?
So they didn't ask me for any ID - the only issue I had was that I ordered the cosmic black version and they messaged via eBay that they don't have it in stock and would I like either grey or white instead. I asked how long for the black and was advised they don't know so if I want black they would rather refund than hold the order... I decided to go for white - actually glad as it looks quite nice and not had a white phone before. It took a week to arrive - they used DPD. No tracking available until in the UK which got me abit worried, but as soon as it showed up in Manchester, DPD delivered it the next day. Btw I didn't have any customs or tax charges either.
From what I read on trustpilot it's sounded like they only asked for ID if your delivery address was different to your PayPal verified address. Again, I ordered via ebay and PayPal so maybe that's why I didn't get asked for ID.
My primary number is in sim 1 and sim 2 had my simo which I use for data. No other particular reason for that order, that's just how I had it in my last phone (OnePlus 5t).
Only other thing to add is that if 5g is selected for sim 2 and then try and select it in sim 1 I get the message ' if you change sim 1 to 5g, sim 1 will be used for mobile data' and then sim 2 changes to 4g - so you can only have 5g selected for either sim 1 or sim 2, not both at the same time.

Why not buy from a reputable store like The Carphone Warehouse?
Then you get a warranty, and know it will work on 5G
NO way would I buy from some foreign website or ebay for something that expensive, ebay you will lose your money if it breaks, and quite possibly with those online sites too, the wondamobile one already says they are unsealed because they had to activate them before shipping, I wouldn't be accepting a £1k device that had already been used / possibly refurbished, possibly IMEI stolen / blocked
Spend the little extra and buy from the UK, and not ebay/amazon, buy it new from a good rep store

So the eBay trader ID they used is 'skytrade19' but had all the blurb of t-dimensions. Also I got emailed a t-dimensions invoice afterwards with 'skytrade19' listed as sales agent. The item id was 153876284501 - I can see it in my transaction history, but looks like the listing has ended.
T-dimensions does have a store on eBay.com.au - item id 392790145906 will bring up the listing for the g9860 in white. Converting the price from AUD to GBP works about about £660. I'd message them and ask if they are willing to list on eBay UK if your keen on buying from them on eBay.
I haven't bought like this before but wanted the Snapdragon model like you. I liked the idea of ebay and PayPal protection together so took the gamble and bought it. I used PayPal credit as well so should have section 75 protection for my purchase (which I wouldn't have if I used PayPal with a credit card) - see mse forum for details on the section 75 stuff.
Anyway it worked out for me overall, that's all I can say.

No they haven't, mine is the Exynos version and it is fine, this last update fixed the only issue I had with it and that was a delay taking selfie photos with the front facing cam, now it's instant
I've been talking to a guy who exchanged his Exynos S20U for the Snapdragon version and he says the only improvement is it doesn't get as hot during game-play, but videos and selfie photos are worse
Don't listen to the SD owners hating on the Exynos, and likewise vice versa, and if I was going to import a SD model from anywhere it would be the US, not Asia
The last update that was released for BRI with July patch has also activated 5G so there is no need to change csc to TGY if it was originally BRI.

Question Will we ever see dual-SIM enabled on the NA model?

We can finally order dual-SIM trays via eBay as of today. What are the odds of being able to enable that second slot?
It might need some time. I read from other post that oneplus 8 pro took a year before a low that feature. now oneplus 9 pro only have one sim tray so it might talk even a longer time for them to release that feature. I am more depending on the people who know how to customize the rom and add feature . So just stay tune at different forums.
OP9Pro normally comes with a dual SIM. Just flip over your sim tray and insert the second sim. Voila!

That's great news. I returned by OP9P NA variant, but don't have a global variant yet. Shouldn't it just work with the NA variant if we flash a global ROM on the same device? It looks like it has pins on both sides.

Not that simple I think. I already flash to EU tom but it does not second sim in the settings. I think it might need wire flash of all components including baseband

Oh no. Does OnePlus publish those components, or are we out of luck until someone figures out a way to get them? The EU variant I have on order doesn't support one AT&T LTE band, so would much rather use an NA variant with dual SIM enabled.
If the EU variant shows up at my door before someone figures out how to make dual SIM work on the NA variant, then I will just use it even with the missing LTE band.

Oh no. Does OnePlus publish those components, or are we out of luck until someone figures out a way to get them? The EU variant I have on order doesn't support one AT&T LTE band, so would much rather use an NA variant with dual SIM enabled.

I saw one guy on Reddit complaining of the same situation we're in- ordered the phone when it said dual-SIM and trying to return it afterward.
He claims OP customer service said dual-SIM would be enabled via update in the future. While I hope that's true, it's the first and only time I saw that said anywhere. Could've just been said to try and avoid return. Even if it does happen, it'd probably be a ways off.

I chatted with OnePlus customer service two different times. Both agents tried to talk me out of wanting Dual SIM, but were very clear that it is single slot only for the US. One even cited spouted some bull**** about doing that to optimize 5G performance on US networks.

I guess we have to wait to see if anyone can figure out how. At least, just upgrade to a newer version of EU tom does not work. Not sure if you for flash everything and reset from adb is the same
i have a bnib stellar black chinese version dual sim 8/256 oneplus 9 pro for sale. I am in SF bay area.
Will it work if i have a Dual Sim Oneplus 9 from Malaysia, install NA rom to open more BANDS ? The malaysia OnePlus 9 has the same 5G bands as in UK, but lack of some US 5G bands like n71. All CN variant do not have B13 band, therefore, not supporting Verizon LTE nicely. All ebay sellers who claimed dual sim with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage are mostly CN variant. I'm better off with EU/UK or MY. Hong Kong spec is the same as USA with dual sim. If anyone wants a dual sim and want mostly all US bands supported, Hong Kong Oneplus seems to be the right fit. Only if we can get it from HK

wait what?! both SIM fits in the same compartment ?
wouldn't that be too tight?
mine only has a slot for 1 SIM
The dual sim versions have 1 sim on each side of the tray.
Mine came with dual sim out of the box and is working perfectly.
I really like how I don't have carry around 2 phones anymore.

Do you have the US version?
I was very disappointed that the US version didn't come with a dual sim. I ordered mine at launch, when their website said that it had it.. Anyway, I finally figured out an acceptable replacement option for mine. I did have 1 sim for my personal number and a second sim for my work number (worked great on my OP 6T for a couple of years now). After playing around with things, I finally ended up porting my work number over to Google Voice (1 x $20 fee) and installed the Google Voice app on my phone. Now I essentially have 2 #'s on one phone, just like having a second SIM, but no cost to my carrier. I can receive calls and txt's for the # I ported to GV. Wasn't quite the solution I was hoping for, but now I no longer pay for that line.

I don't think is a US variant. As far as US Variant is concern, is single SIM. Anyone that is using Dual sim could be CN or EU/UK Variant. If it is indeed a US variant, then I'm interested to know where the source to get it then . Those variants have fewer 5G sub-bands compared to the US except HK. I just hope that Oneplus has the hardware embedded and is just a matter of software activation. Samsung Note20 new firmware patch also opens up their eSIM support.

Question E-sim support

Hello anyone have any updates as how will be able to have esim or second physical sim activated on 926w (Canada) bought direct from samsung ,all discussions seems to hit a dead end
I really need at least 2 sim on this phone and getting a international version is not an option anymore
Thanks for any input
Happy New Year !
If you are in the USA, its not enabled. Samsung has told several people that it will be, once One UI 4.0 hits. We shall see
I lost hope on esim support for the U1 variant. Paying 2k for a phone and not having the option made me jump to the pixel 6 pro so I only have to carry one phone. Still holding onto the fold though in case it comes later on. If so, id jump from the pixel back to my fold.
What exactly is esim?

What is an eSIM card? How will it impact you? | US Mobile
eSIM offers a new way to load carrier information onto your phone without using an external physical chip, enabling you to switch carriers on the spot.

As European customer with Dual-SIM and eSIM Fold3 I'm not familiar, how Samsung and US carriers deliver the Fold3 in the States. According to your post, your fold is a single SIM device, is that right? Or do you have a carrier, that delivers eSIM support only?
In the USA it is one sim slot only. No dual sim, no Esim. On all carriers. Even unlocked

My like is a like for you but is actually a dislike for the content because it's STUPID that US does not use eSIM more widely.
Where eSIM's are used more than anything else in the US is for Watches. I have a Gear Watch 3 (my Watch 4 is BT only) and it ONLY comes in eSIM and my carrier (T-Mobile) didn't even blink and just activated it. So the SUPPORT IS THERE, just too lazy for widespread adoption.
Get rid of the SIM slot and one less place for dust/water to get in!!

Ummm... this is AMERICA!! Where very company looks harder at the Bottom Line rather than do what's good for the customers or people...
Hell, all you have to do is look at our Medical Practices (Hospitals, insurance and most of all, Big Pharma) and you can CLEARLY see it's all about The Great Chase for the All Mighty Dollar...
But by not offering dual-SIM you loose dollars, because people buy iPhones and Pixels ...
Just got the second 4.0 update the Jan. Security update. Samsung still blocking US Esim support on the Fold 3

Scamscum still blocking E-SIM? Ughhh. Glad I swapped my phone out for the Mexican Model.
Interesting, I thought Canada and Mexico have the same version phone and I know Canada does not have eSIM ability.
