Android 11 file system is way slower - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Guides, News, & Discussion

at first I thought it was just me and my fantastic luck that transferring files with X-plore had changed.
speeds would start out as high as usual, 78mbps ish and drop gradually lower 800kbps, stall and then pick up slightly before limping to completion.
it isn't just me though, it's android 11 and something google has done for security reasons apparently.
https://www.reddit.com/r/androiddev/comments/kpn68k
interested if anyone doesn't have crappier file transfer speeds than they did on 10.

after the April 1st ''security patch'' of only 700 plus mb the file system seems to be back at full speed again. yay!

Scope storage, FTS. An Apple fail is now an Android fail. Perfect.

yeah this reply is now overly hopeful naivety, one of the updates or the phone ''growing'' into the update has made transfer speeds back into a rollercoaster again.

İ confirm. ****droid. İ have 40 GB file on Android 11 with Mi 10. I want to transfer this files but i cant. Windows says errors. How to transfer my files quickly to PC ? Speed are so slow.

ADB pull, more reliable I'm told too @frostnicko

MyPhoneExplorer ist working fine here.

Vodafone smart tab 4G

Hello,
is possible manually update my tablet to Android 5? I found this
but from ( ROM Part 1 : http://goo.gl/7pyL97 ) this site i cant download ROM
Upgrade/Update Vodafone Smart Tab 4g to 5.0 Lollipop
Upgrade/Update Vodafone Smart Tab 4g to 5.0 Lollipop
I rewrite this tutorial from forum.xda-developers.com :
The users of Vodafone Smart Tab 4g can now update their handsets to Android 5.0 Lollipop using custom ROM. The new Android 5.0 Lollipop comes with many new features :
- Up to 4x performance improvements.
- A battery saver feature which extends device use by up to 90 mins.
- It has a faster, smoother and more powerful computing experience.
- Support for 64-bit SoCs using ARM, x86, and MIPS-based cores.
- OpenGL ES 3.1 and Android extension pack brings Android to the forefront of mobile graphics putting it on par with desktop and console class performance.
- Responsive, natural motion, realistic lighting and shadows, and familiar visual elements make it easier to navigate your device.
- More intelligent ranking of notifications based on who they’re from and the type of communication. See all your notifications in one place by tapping the top of the screen.
- New devices come with encryption automatically turned on to help protect data on lost or stolen devices.
- SELinux enforcing for all applications means even better protection against vulnerabilities and malware.
- State of the art video technology with support for HEVC main profile to allow for UHD 4K 10-bit video playback, tunneled hardware video decoding to save power and improved HLS support for streaming.
- and other cool features.
Here are some more aspects that users should know before trying out the custom ROM :
- Users need to have proper back-up for their personal data on the device.
- The handset should have at least 80 percent of battery power.
- The users also need to ensure that USB Debugging is enabled on the device.
- During the installation, if the device gets stuck on booting, users can perform wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik before rebooting the device.
Tutorial
1. Download Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM for Vodafone Smart Tab 4g from link below :
The ROM File size is big, so I split the file into 3 parts :
ROM Part 1 : http://goo.gl/7pyL97
ROM Part 2 : http://goo.gl/ffHU2x
ROM Part 3 : http://goo.gl/l1zKh5
To combine 3 parts files above into 1 file just use WINRAR, then extract the files into ZIP format. If any problem with the ROM, maybe because the ROM have corrupted during the download process, you can try to re-download the ROM.
2. Install the ROM Manager on your Vodafone Smart Tab 4g . Get it from Google Play Store, then install the clockwork mod recovery. You also can use ROM Installer application from JRummy Apps Inc.(Get it from Google Play Store).
3. Connect your Vodafone Smart Tab 4g to your PC employing the USB information cable. Copy the “ROM.zip” file you downloaded to the SD memory card.
4. Restart your device in the recovery mode using ROM Manager. As soon as in Recovery Mode, go to ROM Manager and select backup/restore to back-up your information.
5. From the Recovery Menu do a total data erase (including Delvik Cache). When completed, go back to Recovery Principal Menu and choose Flash ROM from SD Card. Navigate the location you copied the ”ROM.zip” file and follow the directions for installing Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Vodafone Smart Tab 4g . As soon as the installation is over, just reboot your Vodafone Smart Tab 4g device, and here you go, you’ve just upgraded it to the new Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Hi:
did you tried it? Have you got root on your Vodafone Smart Tab 4G? I found out a thread with the root file/method, but the file link is broken

I don't understand why some prick upload all tools (root utility and ROMs) for Vodafone Smart Tab 4G to that disreputable server http://downloadsafe.org/? For download it want to send payment SMS messages!!!!! :crying:
If you want my opinion, i think that this supposed lollipop version is fake...
On another forum I've seen this and reports that it works.
I don't have the device (still deciding wether to buy it or not) so I can't test it

Yes, I've seen that link just a few minutes ago. I will try it tonight, since i don't have my tablet with me now.

Well it worked

I have same issue. Apps can work with data on SD Card, for example RawDroid can edit photos, save/delete files. But App2SD functionality is still not supported. It should work with Link2SD app and 2 partitions on SD card. The reason is emulated external storage in internal memory. I didn't find yet how to turn this of, or how to change it.

I've tried Link2SD, but with no success. The best i got was to use MountFolder to move the applications data to the external SD card. With this, I've recovered some good precious space (for example, Minion Rush was using 330MB that where freed).

Thanks for tip FolderMount (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount) works like a charm.
If anyone wants the source code, here it is:
Code:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/alcatel/files/VF_SmartTab4G_20140923.tar.xz
It was awesome if we could get a rom for this tablet =)
People say it is based on Alcatel Pop 8S tablet, but I have never seen this tablet on sale, neither original roms, nothing about it.
Only alcatel website has some info about it, but not much: http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/global-en/products/tablets/pop_8s.html#.VOPaQfmsVoc
Anyone managed to remove system apps?
Titanium backup says it can't find the apks..
In Android 4.4, apps can't write the sd-card, it's a security thing. But there are apps, which enables sd write. And yes, we have source, but for ROMs we also need recovery, and a developer. But fingers crossed.

Any other method that roots 4.4.4?
Yes and it is work. Only "bug" after the root is: every time you reboot your tablet you will got a message that says android is upgrade-ing and continues to updating apps. But it is work.

I stuck on step 7. Finding device... But I did step 5...
What u mean updating apps.? Updates all apps from store?
No, optimezing. Its that thing when android take an update and after that the apps is optimezed. This happening after each reboot. About the root process: if you use win 8, 8.1 you wont be able to rootbso easly because of the drivers. Try with win xp or 7. My advice: use XP. I did it with it.

So, to get this straight: we can actually root the Vodafone smart tab 4g and flash custom roms??

Writing to externalSD...

I'm having issues that I cannot be sure if its affected by Googles dropped support of writing to externalSD or not.
When I hook my phone up to the laptop via USB I do this to transfer music to the micro externalSD, which is 64GB card, into my Music folder. The first thing I do is make a new folder on it to label the folder by band name. When I do that it just sits there idling and won't change names from New Folder to a band name folder. Same thing happened when I tested another way by just dropping a music file on it. It just acts busy and never processes the transfer.
The only way I've gotten it to work was taking the micro externalSD card out of the slot of the phone and putting it into the bigger card then insert it into the laptop and do my work that way. It works that way but I can't tell if its that KitKat issue that's affecting it or its something else.
Has anybody been transferring files via USB or doing what I do?

If you use the Samsung Kies application, it works. At least it works for me using Kies. Haven't tried just using the file explorer.
The external SD restriction is only from within the OS itself. It only affects third-party file managers (or any app trying to modify files on the external sd). Doing anything on a computer should work. Something is wrong with your phone.
I've had this happen when my devices' OS gets messed up. Factory reset (or reflash when I was using custom roms) usually fixes it. I don't know the details, but something with the way the phone presents its storage to the computer gets messed up.

Yeah and file transfers will slow to 0kb/s and eventually (after a long time of waiting) the computer will say something about the device not being found. Right?
This is what I was saying. As long as you aren't running a custom rom (which you can't on the n910a), then a factory reset SHOULD fix it.

If it works for you then do what you're doing. If it gets worse or something, try my suggestion though. It should fix it, but yeah, factory resets can be annoying.

Yeah titanium backup would make it a bit nicer, an icloud style backup would be a godsend
I'm the OP of this thread, lol. Anyways. Did a couple things to test out ideas.
One... Kies... I hate it. Sorry asjshenry. Thanks for the advice though.
Two... tried a different Samsung USB. Same issue.
Three... I may have done something wrong last time with this but when I dragged and dropped a file into the micro externalSD via USB it worked fine. No idling or freeze up. I stated it did this the first time I tested it but I may have done something different than I thought I did.
Four... while still using a different USB I went ahead and tried to create a folder and name it. It just hung there idling.
I guess my last resort is factory reset. I'd like to think it isn't the phone but maybe Windows 8.1 just not playing nicely with the Note 4. A lot of weird things have happened on 8.1 including my Bluetooth mouse not working anymore 4 days after I bought it. It stopped working after Windows pushed an update. Not really sure but I have noticed odd behaviors from 8.1.
I'll try factory reset tomorrow and report back. If its the same issue still then its got to be something with Windows.
OK so I finally got around to factory reset and tried again. Still having same issues. There must be some kind of syncing error with Windows 8.1 or something. I don't get how it will allow me to drop a file in (i.e. a song) without issues but it will not allow me to create a folder and name it.
Only way I can do this is by taking out the micro SD card and put it in the bigger card and then into the laptop.
It gets annoying doing it that way because of having to take the case off then back door then the card and then put everything back together again.

It must be a syncing issue then. I've been trying to track down similar issues but haven't found anything I was looking for. Have you noticed that the more 8.1 gets updated the more there are problems? I'll keep looking till I find what the issue is.

Additional updates haven't worsened or fixed the problem for me, also forgot to mention that the size of the card plays no effect on solving the issue I've tested it on a 32gb and a 128gb card. Let me know if you come up with a fix

If you have 2 laptops or PC could you test this problem on a different one and see if the problem persist? I actually have 2 laptops but the screen on the older one got fried so I have no way or seeing if its a persisting problem.
I will also make some time tomorrow and see if I can speak to a geek squad rep or Microsoft rep online and see if they have any suggestions. I'll have to speak to them about other problems that I see coming up with each updates they push out too.
If I can't get anywhere with fixing all these problems then I will be converting the laptop fully to a Linux OS of my choice. I'm not liking anything at all with windows 8.1 and this laptop is barely a year old.
Also its interesting that you said you had the same issue with the S3. I have the S3 too here before I got the Note 4. I didn't see this problem with the S3 on this laptop and it has been awhile since I had the S3 hooked up to that laptop to transfer music over. That's what is leading me to think that an update broke stuff.
I'll update this tomorrow if I get anywhere.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I took the 5.0.1 update recently and tried creating and renaming a folder on my note 4 using my windows 8.1 machine, I got the same result, folder was created but windows explorer hung and crashed during renaming the folder. I tried it again on my windows 7 machine and it successfully created and renamed the folder without any hiccups. also its worth to mention that i do not have usb debugging enabled, and every time I connect my phone to the windows 8.1 machine I get a usb connected sound and then a second later I get a usb disconnected sound and then the windows explorer window showing my phone and external SD

Thank you. That confirms my suspicion that it is within Windows 8.1. Debugging is not needed for anything.
I had to dig deep to figure out the problem, and according to an article some updates plus components become corrupted without our knowledge. Only way we know something is wrong is one thing after another stops working (i.e. my Bluetooth mouse, writing to external SD, etc).
There is a fix for it as long as it can complete it thoroughly. If not then a fresh install of 8.1 is your only last resort.
This is what I did from this link...
http://www.eightforums.com/3407-sfc-scannow-command-run-windows-8-a.html
Right click on command prompt to grant Administration rights. Click ok. Command prompt will open. Run this...
sfc /scannow
Wait for it to fully scan.
Mine said it couldn't fix all problems. I had to go to Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restore health link...
http://www.eightforums.com/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a-8.html
This will take awhile and look like its hung up at 20% but let it finish.
My results were...
Error: 0x800f0906
The source files could not be downloaded. Use the "source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243007
Had to go to that link and was lost on what to do. So I read through the forums for similar error code by others and the author recommended to do a refresh of Windows or do a complete reinstall of Windows to correct the problem and run sfc /scannow to confirm all is good after reinstallation.
This leads me to believe several updates became corrupted and a lack of a component store. I have no clue how that broke and it's all on Microsoft for that mess.
My last resort is now to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 to correct all issues. It's going to be a pain in the are with all that stuff I have saved on the laptop and backing up everything.
Check out those links and run them to see if your stuff gets corrected. You may have better luck than I did and if you do then reboot after all that and test the external SD issue.

I ran sfc /scannow and it failed verification and didn't fix anything, so then i ran dism as you said however I used a bat file I had instead, and it fixed whatever sfc was complaining about. If you want to try it copy this into a notepad and save it as a .bat file and run as admin
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
pause
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
pause
SFC /scannow
pause
since sfc passed I ran windows update and took all the important and optional updates, restarted and ran sfc again and it passed again. I plugged in my phone and created a folder and tried to rename it and as always explorer hangs again, and crashes, without unplugging my phone I go back to where I created the folder and tried to rename it and it works, problem is if you unplug, explorer will hang and crash first every time before working, also this method doesn't always work, for example sometimes external sd disappears from the list, other times when you click on it, it brings you into phone sd instead of external, and lastly another bug I've noticed is that the language changes after a crash on the list of available memory, there were a couple of instances where everything was replaced with Chinese or Japanese characters. I hope this was helpful but I doubt this problem could be fixed, unless windows 10 fixes it we're going to have to deal with it

Where does unfinished update data go?

Hi everyone, I'm back to the W10M scene now that I got a new battery for my Lumia 625 and I would like to ask if anyone knows where unfinished update data goes in the system memory so I can delete it?
I have my 625 rooted with WPIntenals and the updates failed (multiple times) but the system now still takes up almost 6GB and I would like to free up some of that space as I have only a 8GB internal memory, I already checked the usual update download folders in Data and can't find anything nor can I find any spkg files by searching so I think there might be some sort of other files that take up that space because I am pretty sure it only took up about 2-3GB before. So does anyone know what files I'm looking for and where they are?
Does no one know?
Now I have only 200MB free on my system and it's only cause of the update that keeps failing, I didn't install anything new in weeks and I anyway have it set to install to SD card. If this keeps up I will be left without any space free on the system.

That folder is empty unfortunately but it also does seem like it stopped eating up any more space even though I got lots of "Couldn't download updates" messages so I'll just leave it as this with those 200MB free.
Ok... phone\data\shareddata\dushared\packages
or phone\windows\servicing\packages do not erase nothing from this folder. After hardreset ...bum, blue sad face..
Data\ProgramData\SoftwareDistribution
It's safe to delete the entire folder (i did twice), but it won't stop the updates from failing.

It's safe to delete the entire folder (i did twice), but it won't stop the updates from failing.

This did free up 2GB data, thanks a bunch.
And yes, unfortunately there seems to be no way to stop the updates, none of the registry keys that would work on Windows seem to work on W10M. (except not connecting to wi-fi and setting your data connection to metered that is)

There seems to be a way to actually prevent windows update from doing it's job, I have removed all the update data and then modified the hosts file redirecting all the links I could find listed online (and with fiddler) to be related to windows updates to 127.0.0.1 and now the update just sits on 0%, it's been a couple of hours already so I am pretty positive that it won't start the download, perhaps if this was done on a clean install (before the phone even noticed there is an update on the server) it would just never detect an update again.

2GB+ Files not downloading

Hey everyone, so here's the thing, I've recently switched from Essential PH-1 to the Z2F due to poor performance with T-Mobile on Essential. I recently decided to download official TMobile Z2F firmware to look through the files, and turns out the firmware file is over 2GB in size. Every time I attempted to download it, the download breaks exactly as soon as it reaches 2GB at around 95% progress, it pauses, and as soon as I attempted to resume download, it resets to 0% progress. Anyone else encounter this issue? I've tried downloading from safe mode and same result, download breaks at 2GB. I've allowed external source downloads from chrome, so I know that's not the problem. I also turned off and disabled the preinstalled malware scanner, so that shouldn't be the problem either. Is there some sort of limiter setting that I can't find?

If you're saving to an external sdcard, make sure it's formatted correctly. Try going settings > Apps & notifications > app permissions > storage - find chrome and make sure it is enabled for storage.
You might also try another browser like Opera Mini, UC, anything really.

Storage permission was granted from the get go. Opera did allow the download, so apparently there's something in the preinstalled chrome browser on this device preventing file sizes over 2gb from being downloaded, maybe something in the flags, haven't looked through those, but can confirm this issue isn't present with Opera browser and likely any other downloadable browser.
Thanks for the suggestion

I experienced the exact same issues while attempting to download 2gb+ files using Chrome on my Z2F. I switched to the Microsoft Edge browser and haven't had any trouble downloading any files.

Fastest way to transfer files from PC to Redmi Note 5's MicroSD?

I have many gigs of files that need to be transferred to my phone's MicroSD card from the PC. The MicroSD card (Sandisk Ultra 64GB) is capable of 10 MB/s write speeds but I'm seeing ridiculously slow transfer rates using USB data cable or supposedly fast file transfer apps like SuperBeam, slow as in a lousy 5-15 Mb/s (yes, megaBITS!). It will take forever to transfer what I need to. Is there a way to transfer files from PC to Redmi Note 5 that can be done in MB/s instead of the completely unacceptable Mb/s ?
I have sandisk ultra 64gb and it is capable of 30MBps using usb 3 card reader. take it out and copy. mtp is too slow less than 10MBps

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid having to take the MicroSD out but you're right - it's the absolute fastest way to do it. Took just over a minute or two to transfer over a 1GB whereas MTP would have probably taken over an hour.
some recoveries can enable mass storage option. Also if rooted there are some apps you can try to enable mass storage option for external microsd card.
I always use Airdroid to transfer files. Should work fast if your wifi is good.
It seems you have many small files, those usually will slow down MTP a lot. When I have to backup my WA folder, I just use MiXplorer, copy it to PC SMB share folder. I just let it transfer while doing something else, speed is about 1-2 MB/s average, but better than MTP which usually stuck at somewhere because the MTP cache is not updated.
But if I want to copy it fast, I would use adb pull. More hassle, as you need to type the path completely, but very fast even for multiple small files (faster than using wifi/MTP). I forgot to measure it last time, and it may be different with your microsd. So, you have to tried it out.

Yes, lots of small files. ADB push seems the way to go. What would be the syntax for transferring multiple files and subfolders from my PC to my android device? I'm assuming wildcards aren't supported.

Oh, you want to copy to microsd, yes, should be adb push. Just replace the path with your destination. No wildcard support. It is probably faster if you copy to certain folder first and move it again at the phone. Or just simply copy the whole folder. Other method is without adb, you can just zip the small files and later unzip at the phone using MiXplorer. Yes, that will use up unnecessary write cycle, but time is much more important.
I have actually created a right click holder in the folder and files, connect it to eventghost. Selecting this menu will trigger the adb command to push the file/folder directly to /sdcard/download/ folder at the phone. I have ever create the script to parse the destination too, but my python skill is very limited. I can do it much better using automagic, but that is at the phone side only, while this must be done at PC side. Still finding time to learn python properly.

I'm surprised someone didn't make an app with a GUI that automatically runs ADB and the "push" command to simplify the process and eliminate the need for command lines. There was an app on XDA that enabled Mass Storage in later versions of android but, alas, not Oreo or later (Redmi Not 5).
