Experiment - flashing 11.0.0.2 IND sys.img to 11.0.0 GLO - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I'm about to flash the system partition from OOS 11.0.0.2 (the indian varient) to the previous OOS 11.0.0, for no reason at all.
It'll probably brick but I have time and my exp lvl is: haven't needed help with rooted type stuff/unbricking since the Nexus 5

done flashing, booting up, went straight to crashdump mode

I flashed both IND 11.0.0.2 system.img AND system_ext.img in the first round
Since it said something about kernel in the crashdump I was about to flash 11.0.0.2 boot.img but noticed it was the exact size as the GLO varient)
Im flashing 11.0.0 GLO system_ext rn and we'll see if that changes anything

Flashed 11.0.0 system_ext.img, formatted data, reset system and cache, annnnnnnnnnnd
It's booting up, staring at the oneplus logo now

Booted up. Wifi isnt working. About to flash arters OOS11 kernel and see if anything happens

Rooting via Magisk img patch

Doesn't wanna boot with patched magisk boot.img, gonna clean everything and try again

formatted data/cache reset system, booting up now

took a sec to get ex kernel manager setup without wifi but we're there. gonna flash kernel now and see if wifi works

Flashed kernel, still wifi still isn't working

WIFI is officially on!

P.s, security version IS 3/21, didn't notice that until now. 11.0.0 had 2/2021 which was ridiculous

So was indian rom worth using on your global?

[bricked device] OP3 shows yellow screen

Hey guys,
I think I'm a little bit in trouble: I just got a OP3 and wanted to root it as I'm used to it from the OPO.
But there were problems because of Force Encyption... After a few trys and flashs, I flashed Stock OOS (
OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_013_all_1608061823_765c081a5c8e4dad.zip
) from TWRP and after rebooting...
THE SCREEN IS YELLOW AND FULL OF PIXELS (like an olt TV).
You can feel it works from vibrations but you can't see what's going on... I tried this for unbricking but no success.
I think my phone's display drivers might be broken but idk.
Does anyone maybe know what to do here?

Unbrick guide method 2 should fix it, otherwise ask Oneplus support.

Which TWRP are you using? Try using the latest from eng.stk's (Blue Spark).
If you want MM, the more stable and improved version is 3.2.8. What you downloaded is 3.2.4. So, download 3.2.8 and boot into recovery, wipe system, dalvik cache, cache and data including internal storage (you will lose all your files including photos, videos etc). Boot the phone into the bootloader mode and push the ROM to the phone and flash it from recovery or flash the ROM from PC using adb commands. Flash TWRP again and boot into recovery and if ok, boot into system. If everything is ok, you can flash SuperSU/Magisk, if you need root. A couple of wipes of both the caches in between may also be done.
If this doesn't sort out the issue, use Method 2 from the Mega Unbrick Guide in XDA and follow every instruction scrupulously, especially relating to drivers.
If even this fails, it is a hardware issue.
EDIT: I see that Puddi Puddin beat me to it.

Well you have really messed up something it seems.. This shouldnt be happening by rooting and stuff, I think it is pure coincidence

What exactly did you flash other than OOS and recovery? Why did you need a few flashes? You flashed SuperSU or Magisk? Root still works on an encrypted system so not understanding some things from your post

First I flashed newest TWRP and Paranoid Android but it wasn't as good as expected and so I flashed back to OOS (_008 I think) and everything worked but when I wanted to flash Magisk (because SafetyNet) via TWRP I couldn't because the phone wanted a pattern to unlock encryption.
I read that it would be the same as I used to unlock my phone (btw the only 1 I use) but it didn't work...
Before I found a guide with the right order to remove the encryption I tried different ways by myself (that's because I flashed a few times) (Toolkit, "Fastboot format userdata", TWRP format) but nothing removed it.
Then I wanted to follow that guide but meanwhile there was no OS at all and img Install via fastboot didn't work but I managed to get the newest stable OOS (_16 I think) on the phone, installed it with TWRP aaaaaand...

The official 3.1.1-2 works well with OOS but is cranky with custom ROMS. eng.stk's works both with OOS and custom ROMs.

I can give it a try later (and in the future when everything works again) but I do not think (at least I can't imagine) that the problem I have comes from recovery.
I know the reason!
I found other people who also had a static screen and they said they could fix it by pressing the screen back on its contacts...
I did so and it worked!... A bit... For a few minutes...
So the static definitely wasn't the result of rooting and stuff but the repair company's fault.
I hope they accept their mistake and fix it. Thx for everyone here trying to hel me!
P.S.

-------------------------------- Edit: --------------------------------
(Just in case people get same problem)
[after Mega Unbrick Method 2 finally worked (I put the stock zip in the tool's folder)]
This morning I restarted the phone just because and I could see what was going on on the phone - but the display was still crazy with yellow tint and colorful stripes etc.). After setup it asked me to download & install newest stock rom; I did and after reboot everything was fine again....
Don't know what happened here but it seems to work again.

Can't get back to miui rom

OK so I flashed aospa/los they are working fine. Wanted to try miui 9 so did advance wipe including data wipe. Now after flashing miui it says no is found in twrp. Restoring miui 8 its stuck on boot logo.
Flashing aospa/los is fine but can't get back to miui.
What can I do?

I'd try fastboot flashing with the MiFlash tool
On the MIUI forum they seem to use this as the best way to get back to stock.
It even has a "clean and lock" option to set the phone back to clean ROM and locked bootloader.
Pretty good actually.
Can grab the fastboot firmwares from en.miui.com and then tool as well.
Guides are easy to find on there as well.
Just extract the fastboot package (.tgz)
Then unpack the file from there (yeah I know twice ergh)
And then point the flash tool to the folder this creates.
Then you should be safe to flash.
That will get you back to clean device then you can install TWRP with fastboot again.
I'd go for the Global Developer ROM it's so much better than Stable.
And here's a tip for free: in developer settings disable "MIUI optimization" and set the memory optimization to "off". Makes it so much smoother and battery lasts longer as tasks aren't killed every 5 mins....
So I flashed a global v8 ROM and that worked. Had to install twrp again. Now when I flashed v9 eu ROM after standard wipe, its just on the boot logo with powered by android.

I think you need to use fastboot.
I think normally it would work but one of your partitions must be messed up from another Rom.
It's rare but it does happen and full flashes are needed.
At least MIUI 8 worked

Tbh it may be a complete waste of time.
If you like pure android feel then you won't like MIUI much.
It was okay but its basically what iOS would be if Apple got their sh*t together and gave users more control.
I think that's what Xiaomi was aiming for really as they copy a lot of Apple design types.
Which for is means good hardware and choice of softwares so its definitely a plus.
BL unlock was a dream

LineageOS Nougat.
Not so amazing for visual customisation, but definitely the most stable which means creating mods or adding them isn't as likely to cause issues.
I just want a ROM close to AOSP with all the features of the phone working like fast charging.
AOSPA looks good too.
Just flash again with fastboot ROM and mi-flash tool.
So I just got the OnePlus 5T and wanted to do a speed test comparison for my YouTube channel. I noticed temple run 2 exits. So want to try EU ROM but it gets stuck on bootlogo. Does anyone have a link to the fastboot ROM? Can only find an old one. I can flash the global ROM through with twrp which works fine. Flashing EU ROM fails.
Also will flashing through fastboot lock the bootloader?
I think you should wipe everything and wipe data if you have fbe because it messes up things
So I flashed a stock rom (sagit_global_images_V8.2.2.0.NCAMIEC) with mi flash tool. Unlocked it, installed twrp. Now flashed latest rom eu rom and its stuck on bootlogo still
ARGHHHHHH
Finally worked
After flashing EU ROM, enter fastboot mode and type
fastboot format userdata
(This will format all the data on your phone)
Reboot. Done.

My bootloader keeps relocking itself!

I have been trying to flash Lineage 15.1 (or any rom for that matter!) and the bootloader keeps relocking itself. I am at my the end of my patience. After I think everything goes fine, the initial what I think to be the 1st boot comes up with the "Your device software is corrupt and cant be started" message and I boot to bootloader and sure enough, "oem locked" is BACK AGAIN. What could be causing this? I am far from new to flashing roms but damn this thing is kicking my tail. The stock rom seems to boot fine now, but its sooo buggy and most importantly of why Im trying to rom, the phone bootloops with an SD card inserted.
EDIT: Maybe it has something to do with the 2 different slots, A and B? Ive never delt with this kinda thing before.
I really hate the stock rom with it being so buggy and it wont read my SD cards correctly but Im about to stick with it cause of this. Any help will be appreciated!!

I'm not sure about Los, a quick look shows it has a different flashing process than DU or Aosip, so I can't comment on that. I know that when you flash DU or Aosip from stock #1 there is a 27.1 tmo/sprint pre flash zip that must be flashed or you'll fail, #2 you have to fastboot -w at the end to erase userdata and such, which I believe is shared between both slots but only used by the currently active. The bootloader re-lock is weird, but as far as the corrupt software, it does sound like a discrepancy between the two slots. That's what the 27.1 pre flash zip is for, it flashes both slots with the same base so they don't trip over each other. You might even need to flash it before you install Los, I haven't tried that one yet, just DU and Aosip so far. Aosip was the first one I tried, and the guide works perfectly, and the same guide works for DU as well. Have you flashed the pre flash zips before trying any roms?
Your bootloader is locking itself because you didn't flash the firmware. Flash the firmware in AOSiP thread to stop that from happening.

Yes. If you're on a device with Oreo on one slot and Nougat on another, flashing the ROM will make the device fall over on it's heels and smack it's face on the pavement. (Relock itself to prevent damage).
Yes, /data doesn't have a second slot, only firmware files, OEM and system are two slotted.

Well this is my 4th replacement which the 1st one was the only one that was my fault as I didn't install aosip correctly and it said "no os installed" and I rebooted anyway, insta 9008 brick.
All of them shipped with Oreo on them so I assume they would be on both slots

I feel like I am asking for someone to hold my hand with this device but when you say flash the firmware, do you mean flash twice, one to slot a and one slot b?
Also, does oem need to be wiped in twrp? I can't find any info on that either.

There is a blank flash floating around somewhere. It's on Invisiblek's site. It was the only way to fix the issue. It put me back on nougat and had to take Oreo OTA again.
Edit: the .bat file that flashes the firmware will flash it to both slots

Would this procedure work? (install magisk and twrp on 10.0.3.0)

First, let me say I have been using rooted phones with twrp for several years and never had the slightest problem with them, so I generally know what I am doing, but the Mi A2 Lite is just a disaster area for me, not with Magisk, that works fine, but twrp seems impossible for me to install on 10.0.3.0 without soft bricking ( I had twrp installed on 10.0.2.0 and 10.0.1.0 so I am not unfamiliar with the method, but on 10.0.3.0 - no way). I have done so many factory resets now I have my own parking space at the factory! (That is humour btw).
So I wondered if a different approach to the problem might work. I am not a coder or phone guru, so what I propose might be nonsense, if it is I am sure somebody will tell me.
We are all used to the concept of the 'patched_boot.img' created by Magisk and if you don't want to produce your own version the forum usually has a link to it. Magisk though is not the problem, twrp is, so what I am proposing is that somebody provides a link to a 'double_patched_boot.img' ie a flashable boot image that contains both twrp and magisk and that can directly replace the stock boot via fastboot.
Apparently there are some folks that have managed to install both twrp and magisk on 10.0.3.0, so if one of them could extract the 'double_patched_boot.img' from their phone it might help out a lot. How do you achieve that? Well there is probably more than one way, but the way that I would choose (if I could manage to install them both in the first place) is to boot into twrp, connect to pc, take a miflash backup of the phone and then unzip it with the following command (this is a linux command I am sure someone can provide a windows equivalent):
Code:
tar -xzf ********.tgz
where ********.tgz is the name of your miflash backup.
Then extract the boot.img from the resulting folder, rename it to something like 'double_patched_boot_10.0.3.0.img' and provide a link to it on the forum. Then some brave soul could try it out (probably not me as I am sick of doing factory resets and don't have any backups because I don't have any recovery to make them from).
OTOH this might just not be practical, I don't know enough to be sure.
i was having similar issues. replaced my mi a2 lite and followed the guide for the aosp 109 gsi here in the forum replacing the fstab and one other file i forgot they name but it's instructed. i have twrp zero the fixed one, magisk, and I'm running the RR PIE ROM with zero issues and I've been back and forth in and out of recovery no problem. Interesting. I have certainly thought of jumping ship to a custom rom, but I would like to wait a little before I do so, ideally until someone fires up a Lineage rom for the A2 Lite. But if things continue as badly as they have done so far with stock roms then I might well join you on RR.

also because of the new ARB thing, custom is much safer, i think i bricked my last device rolling back from ota 9.0 software to ota 8.1. that's a non-issue with custom. just something to be wary of. the current RR pie gsi is near flawless for he so far. hope that helps a little

Nice thread. Tried it as well but no chance 10.0.3.00 + twrp + magisk. And you are right the problem is twrp.

correct it is not. what happened was.. lol. i thought i was crafty and did some file swapping and made miflash setups that would flash so the stock files as usual , but with gsi's like RR and/or bootleggers for the system image. and it works, up until i flashed from RR to bootleggers with those setups described previously . there is where my genius was flawed. lol. lesson learned

for me, i have not come across anything caused by the GSI. any issues I've faced are purely self inflicted.
I don´t get your problems... Just boot twrp, and install it as described in original thread.
After that flash back aboot from 9.6.11.0 and the message "your system got destroyed" will disappear!

You might not get my problem, but likewise I don't get your solution. Firstly aboot has never been touched during the attempted twrp install so why flash it at all, it has not been changed, and secondly you suggest I flash it with something that is how many versions old 4?, 5?, I'm not sure, when just about every post you ever read stresses that you should not mix old and new partitions at the same time.
I hope you forgive my scepticism, but can you actually suggest the slightest reason why this might work?
Or is it all just voodoo johnny (sorry, couldn't resist that).

Aboot is the bootloader. Since Pie the aboot was modified to check wheather there are modification on your boot.img. So everytime you modify something (like installing twrp), you get the message "your system got destroyed".
9.6.11.0 is the last version of Oreo. Here the bootloader didn´t check boot.img.
That´s why you need to flash 9.6.11.0 - maybe the older verstions will work too. Didn´t check. But I guess only 9.6.11.0 will work becouse it was the latest oreo version and it had to have a bootloader which can boot up pie (to have ota working).
Here you can find the aboot.img I use... and which works without any problem on pie - right now I´m running 10.0.3.0...
Just flash it via fastboot.

OK that makes sense now - thank you for the explanation. I will probably give that a try sometime, but not right now as I have a stable working phone for the first time in ages and I don't want to jeopardise that.
Just one question though. When I had twrp installed on 10.0.2.0, it was fine at doing backups, but on the two occasions I tried to restore with them they failed, by which I don't mean that the restore didn't repair the phone, but that it was impossible to even carry out the restore, it started but did not complete - just ended with 'Restore Failed' message.
Have you tried any restores with twrp installed in the manner you suggest and if so did they work? No point in installing it otherwise.

There seems to be some bugs restoring system and vendor... Some users talked about... I usually only save and restore the data and boot partition and I never had any problems with that. For all other partitions you can use miflash or fastboot...
Yeah all my twrp full backups don't work after a fresh stock installment either, that's very annoying.
The twrp version for daisy is bugged. Backups are not working, the wifi with GSI Roms on pie stock is not working anymore as soon as twrp is installed as well.

Thanks for the replies above. @voodoojohnny
In my case it was the data partition that caused the restore to fail, vendor and system and boot all seemed to go through normally. @cd492
Based on what you say along with my own experiences and those of voovoojohnny, it looks like twrp is more trouble than it is worth at the moment. I think I will make do without it for now and hope for a better version in the future.

Well there is probably more than one way, but the way that I would choose (if I could manage to install them both in the first place) is to boot into twrp, connect to pc, take a miflash backup of the phone and then unzip it with the following command (this is a linux command I am sure someone can provide a windows equivalent):
where ********.tgz is the name of your miflash backup.

THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED ON GSI'S YET
I'm currently in the process of RR with TWRP but having extreme Encryption errors
Grab these two files (Big Thanks to Zerovoid, Seryioo, and mac12m99)
Fixed SDCard Support TWRP Image File (Put this on your SDCard and Computer)-
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...unofficial-twrp-daisy-mount-sd-fixed-t3889390
Fixed SDCard Support TWRP Installer Zip (Put this on your SDCard)-
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603893418
But I got TWRP on 10.0.3.0 with magisk, and Justic Kernel.
THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE I'M DEFINITELY NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST DATA
Start with the phone being on with USB Debugging enabled correctly
Type adb reboot bootloader
So flash the 10.0.3.0 ROM through MiFlash using the flash_all.bat, this process has to be done so backup your data before erasing.
After it is done flashing it restarts, go ahead and hold power and volume down right back to the Bootloader
Type: fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-0-daisy_zero.img
It would boot into TWRP, if you see something about decryption hit cancel this may mean you haven't followed directions so far
Tap install and find your SD Card, find the fixed-twrp-installer-daisy.zip where ever you put it on your SD Card and install it, this process takes a few minutes when finished DO NOT HIT REBOOT SYSTEM!
Hit the home button back to TWRP home screen and tap reboot >>> bootloader
Download this to your computer - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603884024
Type: fastboot flash aboot aboot_9.6.4.img
Then type: fastboot reboot
Afterwards your phone shall boot up to Android if it does hold power and volume up and release power and keep hold volume up when the screen turns back on to go-to recovery, if TWRP boots up you have successfully completed the task.
Now flash Magisk zip (optional)
Hopefully this helped kind of my first tutorial, this was my process.

Yes I didn't see that post but understand I didn't give you links to the official TWRP, I gave you the unofficial fixed TWRP which actually features SD Card Support and trust me it works completely fine I haven't had a problem yet. This took me hours upon hours to figure out what I was doing wrong.
The only specific reason you are not successfully getting TWRP is because you didn't flash the aboot.img after installing the zip.
I hope this helps you in the future!
thanks InfinityXDA for the tutorial, you should create a post just for it~

Bootloop on the latest stock global firmware (V10.3.1.0.PEIMIXM)

Hi, I've tried to update my Global Redmi Note 5 Pro's firmware for a few days now to allow usage with the latest pie custom roms, but all the attempts to get my phone booting on the latest versions seem to have failed so far.
Everytime the phone either gets stuck on the boot logo or the loading screen (for more than an hour, so I assume it is bootlooping). I am not sure on what could be causing those issues, though they seem to have appened to a few other people on the miui forum. The phone does not get bricked by installing the latest firmware (fastboot and recovery still work), but it only appears to boot after reflashing oreo firmwares. Pie only seemed to work on custom roms relying on an oreo firmware.
Did those issue happen to anyone else, or has anyone found a solution?
So far what I've tried was:
- Installing the a pie firmware from twrp (from xiaomifirmwareupdater's github), installing a pie compatible twrp, formatting the data and cache partititon, then flashing a custom rom -> stuck on bootlogo
- Reformatting data, cache, vendor and system partitions to make sure they are not somehow damaged, then installing the latest firmware, twrp pie recovery, and a custom rom (retried with more than one custom roms) -> stuck on bootlogo
- Installing the latest stock miui pie fastboot firmware with flash_all.sh (should flash all device partitions) -> stuck on miui bootanimation for more than an hour
- Formatting Data/Factory reset -> still stuck on MIUI bootanimation
- Installing the latest stock MIUI Oreo fastboot firmware with flash_all.sh -> works flawlessy
- Installing any Oreo custom rom -> works flawlessy
So far I've not managed to take any logcat (adb does not detect any device, the issue probably happens before adbd starts running). I am not sure on what could cause those issues.
(I was wondering if it could be related to the latest kernel, though the fact that miui reaches the bootanimation means that it's at least somewhat working; another unlikely possibility might be an hardware issue, but then why'd it work on oreo?)
Thanks in advance for any help
With miui pie, older boot-loader wont work. Infact you would need pie recovery and pie rom to boot. You could try fastboot flashing oreo rom and older rom will work. try to flash arb v4 rom or device will get bricked.
Happend to me once.
What I have done:
Flash latest oreo (or pie for better sake) by miui flash. Remember to match your ARB value.
Go to pie via updater (if you don't care ARB thing. I don't know if fwless pie will work). Don't install recovery now. Let it boot first.
Load pie recovery via fastboot then flash recovery via recovery.
I have the same problems. Pie fw has not been use by dev. So please wait some future rom update

Thanks for the info; shouldn't the bootloader also get updated when fastboot flashing the latest pie firmware? (xbl.elf and abl.elf get flashed, bl looks like an abbreviation for bootloader)

Thanks, I just tried to update from an oreo miui firmware via ota as suggested. Unfortunately the result appears to be the same; the phone is stuck on the bootlogo forever and won't boot on a miui pie fw.

You mean xiaomi/miui devs? But yeah, I guess waiting for some future update is the only thing I can do for now.
Is it your device is china variant or global variant ??
If your mobile is china variant follow below steps.
Flash China Oreo Fastboot rom using MiFlash Software and then flash China Pie fastboot ROM (Later you can flash global android pie fastboot rom but do not lock bootloader)
If your device global avriant, follow below steps
flash 10.3.1 Oreo fastboot ROM and then flash 10.3.1 android pie fastboot rom (or you can update to android pie using updater method)
this should resolve your issue. for more info visit en.miui.com/a-234.html

It's a Global variant bought from an official Xiaomi Store in italy, it always worked with global roms.
Unfortunately I also already tried to flash an oreo fastboot (global) rom, then update to pie from there, but the result was the same, stuck on bootlogo.
---
About 10 minutes ago I got it to boot on Pie for about 2 seconds on the setup after another reflash, then it crashed and turned off (and bootlooped).
Idk, I'm starting to think that if it only happens to me it might be an hardware issue. Maybe some blocks of the eMMC are damaged, and the issue only happens in Pie due to the slightly larger firmware images flashed to the various partitions; by coincidence more important data might end up on corrupted blocks.
I'll have to verify by dumping the partitions some times and verifying the data/checking for coherency between the dumps

Hello! You're not the only one facing this.
I also have Redmi Note 5 global model, and I'm facing the very same problem. I've tried everything, just like you...
I don't see many people with this problem but I found other 3-4 with the same problem: on Mi Community forum and in some Facebook groups. No one is having success... No one is able to fix this!
I'm worried, because as we are not too much facing this problem, maybe Xiaomi is not knowing that this is happening.
Contact me if you want to know more, and maybe together we can make anything! Let's hope for the best!

Ok...you all are not alone it seems.
Couple of months back I faced this issue but after struggling for a day I managed to boot into miui latest (global) after which I found my EFS+Modem partitions corrupted (ie. unknown baseband,no wifi or imei )...I guess data corruption is the cause.I went to the service center, they told me it was data corruption and the entire Motherboard had to be replaced...they quoted a price of ~Rs 8000 (Incl. GST ) for the repair...I am since then stuck without a phone
Edit: BTW...I bypassed the bootloop by flashing the latest global recovery rom through orange fox...(not recommended cause it might cause you to lose wifi and imei)..
