Question Is 5G really 5G? - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

For me he indicated 5G, although there is still no 5G from my provider on site. See also screenshot.
Somehow something is wrong with MIUI.

This could be like AT&T's 5GE branding but something Xiaomi have baked into MIUI?
See link: here

WtH. If it really is, then it sucks.

Just choose "Prefer LTE" in Sim cards & mobile networks > your current sim > Preferred network type > Prefer LTE. You can use LTE normally while waiting for your telco provider to support 5G in the future.

Yes I could. But it is irritating when something is displayed incorrectly.

Because I turned it on after I put in m t mobile sim card and used it.
How do I turn it on/off. I havent found it yet, but it is fixed to my notifications bar, and I don't want it there.
Thank you for confirming. Are you able to confirm a couple of other things?
VoLTE?
RCS Messaging? (I think there should be an advanced setting to enable this).
Band 71 available?
I am trying to figure out if I buy and unlocked phone from Samsung, and flash the TMO ROM, or buy the carrier version and clean up the bloatware (I keep my phones so resale value doesn't matter so much for me)

I don't know about Volte,The phone does not let me select LTE alone. I can not tell RCS messaging don't know anything about that. Ban 71 is supported

I have found the only way to turn it on or off is through the notification bar an then it opens the window to change wifi call settings, I am still looking.
This is what I also found: go into the dialer, top right hand corner are three buttons touch that go to settings, and you will see wifi calling listed and you can turn it on and off in there, too.

Thanks! Was just trying to find something like this as now that I turned it off so it's not on the notification bar, I still know how to turn it on.
Is there any chance you could post a screen snaps of your unlocked S9 with T-Mo SIM on the *#2263# band support screen? On the T-Mo phone at least they turn down LTE Band 28 and UMTS Band 8 whenever you pop in a T-Mo SIM but open it up when you insert another carrier SIM. Since I can flash the unlocked firmware on my T-Mo device, this would be a great work around if those two bands persist!!
Apparently without those bands, roaming sucks in AUS and NZ, and without B8 UMTS parts of Europe (esp. South France) loses coverage.
Thanks in advance, as well as for the Intel! I do know you lose native digits support and video calling from the dialer, but those features don't matter to me as long as WiFi calling works which you proved.
Attaching my band list, as you can see no B28 or B8 UMTS

That's strange--the unlocked model is showing one less band than T-Mobile, LTE 46 which is for LTE LAA on the unlicensed 5GHz band. Thank you for the snap, much appreciated!

Are you able to enable "Cellular calling preferred" in the wifi calling options? After enabling this option while on wifi instead of "Wifi Calling Preferred" the phone reverts back to wifi calling turned on even though I had chosen "Cellular calling preferred".
Does this happen to you? It still happens to my S9 unlocked and also the Note 8. Called Samsung about it but doesn't seem like anyone bothered to fix this.

Yes, there are a few bands not showing that the unlocked version supports. Samasung tech told me it is SIM specific, if I had an attitude SIM in the phone it should show the bands that ATT uses such as band 30.
The unfortunate thing is that TMobile SIM is disabling B28 and UMTS/WCDMA band 8 which are valid roaming bands for other carriers that TMobile can roam on. The AT&T SIM actually enables those bands, as do international SIMs. It seems like a strange oversight / mistake?

Yea let me know in 10-15 minutes if it goes back to Wifi calling. My phone will do the same. It'll switch to cellular calling but switch back to wifi calling in a few minutes on its own
It has not switched back yet.

If I toggle wifi calling on and off again it'll go away and go back to cellular calling.
Do you have Keep Cell Data on enabled in developer settings? I don't have developer settings enabled at all so maybe that has something to do with it?

Non-VZW pixel in CDMA network

Is it possible to use pixel in a CDMA network without (or with) help of some kind of dark magic?
I inserted RUIM (Ukraine, Intertelecom) card from my previous phone (Motorola Droid xt1254 VZW) and phone doesn't want to connect to network.
*#*#4636#*#* menu shows CDMA phone number, carrier name and even something like local base stations, but changing "preferred network type" to CDMA auto, CDMA only, LTE/CDMA etc doesn't help.
Btw, in normal phone settings-> network & internet -> mobile network -> preferred network type there are no menu items like Global CDMA/LTE, GSM/LTE etc (as in VZW phone), only LTE, 3G and 2G, so I think I need to change/patch something so phone could change work mode to CDMA...
Intertelecom only allows authorized devices on its network. Your P2XL isn't authorized, which is why it won't connect. Contact them and see if they can add your P2XL to their list of authorized devices.

Hmm.. I thought that's what RUIM was for.
The SIM card only holds the account information. The carrier can still prevent the device from working on their network through an internal whitelist. If a device isn't on that whitelist, it won't work.

I have exactly this problem, you have found the solution?
@halif2007: Contact your carrier and ask them to add your device to their internal whitelist. Note however that the carrier is not required to do this, so if they refuse, you have little recourse except find another carrier.
My carrier doesn't use a whitelist

As noted, Intertelecom only allows authorized devices on its network. However, while I don't pretend to know how the carriers do things, they have to have some system in place which prevents phones other than those that are authorized from working on the network. Regardless, you're pretty much out of luck with Intertelecom. You'll have to check out Vodafone, LifeJ, Kyivstar, 3Mob, or PEOPLEnet and see if they'll allow the P2XL on their network.
Of the carriers listed above, PEOPLEnet and Vodafone uses CDMA. Vodafone though also uses GSM, and it or one of the other GSM carriers is going to be your best bet to get the device working in your country.

Question How to change preferred network type?

I'm on EE UK but the preferred network type setting doesn't appear to be present in SIM options?
It appears that some providers suck hard and don't want to allow you to switch networks. That's not a phone thing-y, it's a provider thing-y. Which means that your phone will of course still change networks, but only if the "higher" one is not available, ergo your phone will only connect to 4G, if 5G is not available - if the 5G connection is bad, that will probably cause problems for you, because your phone will probably not want to connect to 4G automatically.
I can easily switch preferred network types
Settings -> Network & Speed -> SIMs -> (scroll down, between 4G Calling & Carrier settings version) -> Preferred network type (5G, 4G, 3G, 2G).
It that's not available, your network carrier sucks. No more to say here.
I'd suggest you either switch providers, or contact your provider to see if they are willing to change this. It's definitely on their end, cuz people like me can change the settings easily.

Or you could just make sure Adaptive Connectivity is enabled and not worry about it.
You would have to drag me away from EE (BT Mobile) screaming and kicking given the coverage and speeds they have, to say they suck over one menu option missing is absolutely laughable.

When the Note 20 first came out a lot of carriers wouldn't let you change network type but there's an app in the play store that was working on the notes.
Force 4G/5G Only - Apps on Google Play

Crashes or alternately just disappeared for me when I click on the first option "4G LTE with only one SIM". Reported the crash. Thanks, though. Maybe they'll update it.
An alternative to the dialer code is to boot into safe mode, and the preferred network type setting will appear in: Settings -> Network & internet -> SIMs between Data warning & limit and Carrier settings version (at least it does on my Google Fi Pixel 6 Pro).

Question 5g connectivity

Not sure if it has been addressed, but has anyone here in the states been able to connect to band n41 for 5g on TMobile? Phones says it is 5g ready on TMobile but all I get is 4g+. Which btw is getting me 100+ dl speeds on average, but just wanted to know if there is something I'm missing to get 5g. In preferred network settings, all I can choose is 4g/ LTE or 3g/2g. No 5g option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had to chat with one of the employees there to give them the new IMEI number so they could switch the phone in my account. When I first put the sim in, it actually told me that the sim card was not accepted since it was a China mainland phone. I almost thought I wasted my money and could not keep the phone. The 5g option was there from the beggining though but I was getting no signal at all. I finally found the network reset option after the employee suggested it and reset the network, restarted the phone and it finally worked. Also voLTE works as well. Up until this phone, I tried a global Mate 40 Pro and MI 11 Ultra and neither of them had that option available. Not sure why.
Also, on this version it doesn't even say the preferred network option. If I go under Mobile Network & Sim 1 that's where it shows 5g and I can toggle it on or off.

What happens if you go to Mobile Network --> SIM 1? This is what it shows on mine. I think the 5g came on automatically for mine. But here is where it shows the 5g toggle. I'm not sure how the settings look on the global one since I think it runs on Funtouch. Mine is on Origin OS. I'm not sure if that plays a part in 5g as well.

Still nothing. 4g only option. When you first started phone/inserted sim, did you get a notification saying to update carrier provisioning? I did but I think that messed up something...
No message when I inserted my SIM, but then I wouldn't expect any carrier specific updates to provision services on my phone as my carrier hasn't certified and doesn't support Vivo phones. Consequently I don't have VoLTE or Wifi Calling toggles in my SIM settings. I do however have the "enable 5G" toggle (and it works because I do connect to 5G) because that setting is baked into the firmware and is not something pushed by the carrier. I don't expect this would make any difference, but you can enable developer options and toggle on VoNR. That is the new voice over 5G technology that is replacing VoLTE (voice over 4G) with some carriers.

Use "NetMonster" App
*#*#4636#*#*
Passing through several cities (and back) i've connected to approx 75 towers in my Netmonster Log. LTE-A/LTE+ has not shown on the phone at all, and checking the signal live, i saw no indication of two or more bands connecting. I've even tried swapping SIM slots, still nothing. So this may be a model that has Carrier Aggregation disabled to reduce licensing fees.
I have verified CA availability in this region with this provider through my samsung s20 with the same SIM card.
