Question How to Force All the apps to get 120Hz? - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

Hello sfu,
I alr set my display to 120Hz, but does it mean I am getting 120Hz on all my settings ??
If not, how do I force all the apps to get 120HZ?
Thank You.

Isn't it always 120Hz? Check with the app that display refresh rate. But the last time I checked, everytime it was 118-120Hz.

some apps revert it back to 60hz, like youtube, google photos, netflix. Recents apps page is 90hz

You need to delete battery app data. You will have yt and all aps on 120hz but after some time it reverts on 60hz and you need to delete it again.

That's troublesome though, is there any other way to make it permanent to 120Hz ???
Why it keep on reverts to 60hz?

That is the question for Poco.

I believe the idea is to keep battery usage to a minimum... Apps that don't natively make use of the 120Hz are switched back to 60Hz in favor or battery life. In short 120Hz is actually adaptive refresh rate.

I thought it was an adaptative screen freqency rate but actually, we only have the option to set to 60Hz or 120Hz. Only. Or did I miss something ?

According to the GSMarena review, F3 has variable refresh rate, it will automatically change between 60,90 and 120HZ. This guide will lock it on 90hz

So why in settings I only see 60Hz or 120Hz and nothing about 'switching' 'variable' etc ? :s

Just put it on high (120hz). It will automatically reduce to 90hz or 60hz depends on what shown on the screen and how you interact with the screen.
For example, when you're watching a website, reading text, it will automatically put back on 60hz. And when you touch the screen (for example, to scroll the website) it push back on 120hz

S20 FE has a secret 96hz display refresh rate - Here is how to enable it

Hi All,
Seems like Samsung has added some trick to their brand new S20 Fan Edition device, as previous S20 series devices.
= Galaxy S20 FE has a hidden 96Hz display mode=
With this 96hz hidden option you can restrict the adaptive refresh rate to work to 96hz allowing your phone to prolong battery life.
https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-s20-96hz-refresh-rate-mode/
https://github.com/Made-With-Fingertips/Dynamic-Display/releases/
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/sszb.s20.refresh
Also, seems that Samsung allows to change both refresh rate and screen resolution using Bixby Routines.
I am checking if these is true or how. But if someone knows better step-by-step how to, please let a comment and i will update this thread.
[{id=1, width=1440, height=3200, fps=60.000004},
{id=2, width=1440, height=3200, fps=48.0},
{id=3, width=1080, height=2400, fps=120.00001},
{id=4, width=1080, height=2400, fps=96.00001},
{id=5, width=1080, height=2400, fps=60.000004},
{id=6, width=1080, height=2400, fps=48.0},
{id=7, width=720, height=1600, fps=120.00001},
{id=8, width=720, height=1600, fps=96.00001},
{id=9, width=720, height=1600, fps=60.000004},
{id=10, width=720, height=1600, fps=48.0}]
How to use:
Ensure that you are running in FHD+ or HD+ resolution (QHD+ does NOT support 96 or 120 Hz, only 48 Hz and 60 Hz)
Install the APK onto your S20
Launch the app; if you see a warning dialog "This app was built for an older version...", just click "OK" and ignore it
Grant WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission to the app using ADB:
adb shell pm grant com.ray.customrefreshrate android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Tap on "Check Permissions"
The main UI should show, with the current refresh rate selected
Tap on any of the desired refresh rates to change to; it should apply immediately
Open up your web browser and go to testufo.com to verify the new refresh rate is in effect.
everyone says it is working. check and comment.
cheers.
and a BIG THANK YOU to DEVS who made this possible through all their hard work and dedication!!
This was the first thing I tried after setting up my FE. But upon testing it only changes the refresh rate to 60hz.

hi,
how you set it up?
meaning: did you used Bixby Routines to have medium power saver on with High Refresh rate?
then, did you used the app to setup the refresh rate default from 120 to 60 and then change the aps you need to use 96hz refresh rate?
cheers.

This does not work. Attempted to give permissions via adb. Still testufo site shows 60fps when you select 96hz.
Selected standard and high refresh in settings and selected 96hz on either setting. No dice.
Is there a reason they don't offer it for power saving purposes? Why is it 60 and 120 only

No, it does not.
I have the S20 FE 5G (Snapdragon) version here bought in germany from Samsung Store.
I used adb dumpsys display
It has only 60 or 120hz and also only FullHD+ resolution, not even HD+ but that is normal when the panel only has FullHD+.
So sadly this means your App does not work.
But I found a way to automatically switch between 120hz and 60 hz.
I use a Bixby routine to switch to standard refresh rate (60hz) when chosen apps are open.
This is working fine and changes the refresh rate automatically within 2 seconds after app opening/switching/closing.

Is there a way to activate it since it's only software wise? Or is this something only Samsung can do if they decide to patch it in as a hidden feature like the other S20s?
idk.
But the S20 FE has a different Panel then the S20 series.
So I dont think the panel can handle 96hz
Is there a way to enable quad hd resolution on this phone or this panel is not compatible?
The adb permission is not working I get a error message in adb
Thanks for the app, anyway I don't think the battery saved with 96 Hz would be so great
This app and any 96 Hz mode will never work with the S20 FE (5G) as the panel does not support it.
I already wrote this in post #8.
Has anyone tested this app? Does the compatibility check does not allow to change the refresh rate?
I checked the source of the app and I think that I can add S20 FE to list of allowed device. I don't own this phone (yet), so someone else will have to test.

Not working, tested with snapdragon version
it works for s20 fe 5g?
No.
Look at Post #8
I tried this over the weekend, unfortunately it does not work for 96Hz. I granted the perms through ADB enabled it through the option list but while verification it shows either 60Hz and 120Hz

Probably because 96hz will not synchronise properly with the screen (it supporting 120hz, 96hz is divergent)
, causing flickering, screen tearing and touch issues.

Can a Mi10t lite downgrade to 90hz?

Since I’m actually afraid of consuming the battery life and personally don’t need 120hz, is there a way to downgrade it to 90hz?
And if it isn’t possible via settings, is there a DBTO image that can allow that?
thanks
I don't think it's possible (yet) but It's adaptive sync so it will not run 120hz at all time, it will run at the supported hz's of: 30Hz/48Hz/50Hz/60Hz/90Hz/120Hz
For example on the home screen and settings it will run at 50hz (according to my test) when you not scroll, only 120hz when you scroll or touch.
Most games locked to 30/60fps and it will not run at 120hz there of course.

I know, but even with adaptive sync I don't think this phone will get to 7 hours of usage with display on

My phone with normal usage (chrome, youtube, instagram, some light games) gets 8-9 hours on screen with 120hz (adaptive sync).

This work for me https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi...-to-force-miui-to-90hz-instead-120hz-t4177211

Question [Solved] Anyway to run all the apps in 120Hz?

I'm rooted
I think there is an ADB command to push 120hz all the time
1)Su
2)Settings put global oneplus_screen_refresh_rate 0
3)reboot(I just ran in terminal and no reboot needed most often)
4) when u check ur refresh rate in settings it will show "standard 60hz" and if u click to go into these settings neither will be chosen..but if u check your refresh rate with dev settings "show refresh rate" it will be 120 or with any app that shows.
To undo it being forced all you have to do is go back into your settings/display/advanced/refresh rate and click on either 60 or 120hz and it will "un" force it being forced 120hz
I use an app called AutoHz, used it on my OnePlus 7 Pro first to force 90Hz but you can use it on the 9 Pro also (Can choose from Auto/60Hz/120Hz) and choose a refresh rate per app. Works nicely with some games which seemed to stutter a bit for me.

Question Is this hardware or software issue??

My poco f3 stutter really bad when scrolling, its happening almost on every apps, except facebook. Im using stok rom MIUI 12.5.5, rooted. This is the example when im using twitter app.

Yes, 120Hz enabled
Since it is smooth on Facebook it is not a hardware issue. Try the following and post screenshots
Enable Developer options. Navigate to Settings > About > Build number and tap on Build number seven times.
Profile GPU rendering; tap on that and choose “On screen as bars”.

Are you able to collate the judders with the spikes in GPU rendering?
I sometimes notice judder when viewing a webview even at 120 Hz.
To help you diagnose, is Samsung Browser smooth while scrolling?

Samsung browser is smooth when im scrolling, but sometimes its stuttering, but not very often. In twitter app, stutter is really bad.
That proves my observation. I noticed that your temperatures are under control at 36
If Samsung Browser is smooth then I think its the webview renderer that is the problem.
As to why twitter app stutters so bad could be because it uses webview to render tweets
Try updating to the latest webview or the latest canary build for bromite or chrome webview
A fix that worked for me is to set the refresh rate to 60Hz , clear the app data from the performance and battery app and then set the refresh rate back to 120Hz
So, i tried geekbench, and running compute benchmark (opencl and vulkan), I think the score is very low, even lower than my Huawei Nova 5t phone. First pict is my poco scores, the second is my Huawei scores.

Question Is there any way to get dynamic refresh rate?

The battery drain is quite high and there's no option to automatically switch between 60 and 120 hz. Pretty bs
No, but the galaxy max Hz app
exactly, no official option, but the galaxy max hz. This thread: link
I used maxhz but I stopped. It works nice but there is reason why Samsung didn't implemented that. Screen in low brightness have slightly different colors in 60Hz and 120Hz. As result I stopped to use maxhz and I use 60Hz permanently

You can notice that on some colors. For me that was visible for example at AccuBattery green. I will make second try on that, maybe that was placebo after reading some posts about that ^^
Okay, so I checked it again and still didn't see any difference on AccuBattery icon. But this time I saw very, very little change in gray colour. It changes its brightness a little.
