New OP7T owner, but I feel OOS very strange, can you help me to start? - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Hi, I am a new owner of OnePlus 7T, I bought it used yesterday, and it runs Oos 11.0.1.1HD85BA
I'm pretty happy with it although I've noticed some overheating when playing games (just 10 minutes of geshin impact or dead cells), when scrolling tiktok or yt.
In general with average use, with about 5/10 minutes of gaming at most, the battery reaches 15/20% in the evening. I think for an used phone it's good? Or for OP standard is not so good?
Another bug I've noticed is the inability to launch the task manager at times, some inaccuracies in gesture handling, that is pretty imprecise, also I've notice that sometimes notification when the screen is off are not so precise. So I thought:
Do you guys think it's better to go back to Android 10? (if possible, i've read that most of OP user loves OOS10 more than 11) Or is it better to wait for more hotfixes for 11?
I do not know the oneplus world so I rely on you, I've already installed all my apps and backup from my old phone, and If I have to format I won't continue to organize my things.
Just one things: if you have some optimization tips, or something to do when you first have the phone, please tell me... I don't even own a AMOLED display before and I've read that it could become green!!!! What can I do to avoid this problem?
Thank you all in advance

Reset all data

If above does not fix then unlock bootloader, root, install Dora kernel latest, sdcardfs version

Worth rooting?

I just bought a oneplus 3 (offerup $200 use). Havent been in the rooting scene for a while thanx to the gs7 edge. Now that i do have a device that can be root and bootloader unlock i know there're great support.
The thing is, this device seems the snappier device i ever own. Little to non bloware and really fast. Cant imaging been faster. There any reason to root this device. If u did. Why and what rom r u using?

The OP3 is the first phone that I didn't root to achieve extra performance, but to improve Android. After using a rooted phone for the last 2 years I can't live without AdAway and a combination of Greenify/Disable Wakelock/Xposed/Amplify to control what my phone is doing, not to mention really useful things like Tasker, customizing the Alert Slider and many many more. Nowadays, flagship phones aren't rooted for performance.
That being said, I am disappointed by the responsiveness of the OP3. On OOS 3.2.7 it is LESS responsive than my 2year old OnePlus One running CM14.1 nightly. Disappointing, but getting my hopes up for when the CM14.1 nightlies for the OP3 get good. Which is the biggest plus point in my opinion - software updates. If you have root, you can have the newest version of Android anyday, not having to wait for OnePlus to update it (which they take way too much time for).
All in all, if you know what you are doing, root your phone. It is worth it.

U got me pretty much convince to root mine. The only other stock android experience for me has been nexus 6p and this phone stock is much faster and fluid. Im concern about instability of using a rom like CM or other rom that has so many tweak to improve it but mess uo other things. Have u try cm14.1. Or how about CM.13 how solid is that right now?
I'm not rooted....running community build stock...3.5.5 is stable, great performance...get 5hr SOT with 15% left...over 24 hrs... phone is a great performer...
I root all of my Android devices, tablets and phone, primary for customizations and backup. I like having a full nandroid backup incase something ever goes wrong. This way I am assured that I can recover to a previous working state. I know you can often find factory image out there for just about any phone, but I will also backup at a point in time once I have everything exactly as I like. Again, this allows me to roll back to exactly how things were before I started tinkering. Running Xposed and theming, is another big reason to root. However fiddling with these can sometimes go bad so having a nandroid backup is handy.
For me, I am still running stock on 3.2.7. I find it extremely fast and stable. Been looking at the other roms, but have not found a need to switch from stock yet. I am getting 4 - 5 hrs SOT consistently, stock so again, have not found compelling need to switch roms, but am playing with different Xposed modules so that alone is reason to root.
Oh yes for sure... Adaway alone makes it worthwhile
Also check out Android explained on YouTube.. Very well explained, instead of just following some tutorial and not really understanding... Android explained breaks everything down so now I have an understanding of how my device operates.
There's a lot of great stuff you can do with root. For me the best features are: much better battery life, GUI customization, and OGYoutube (basically YT Red for free, and yes, there's a nonroot version but the root is better).
Root....
IT bus corp guy and like others said AdAway, Youtube ad blocker, TB to backup apps and be able to save app come back previous version when dev mess it it....all just a must have for me.
I am on Resurrection Rom not OOS so still have that Android Nexus experience since I came from 6P and not slow with any responses...quick, stable
Install xposed and enjoy Google assistant, N-ify, YouTube background player etc.
Personally i'm not rooted, for the first time in years, someone earlier mentioned nandroid backups they require TWRP but not root.
My concern with rooting is the updates. I hate setting up the phone after clean install since we dont have anything like icloud. I know ubcan dirty flash the updates but there so much there up to a point that u would have to clean install and update. Like going from MM to nougat. Quote if im wrong but i havent been in the rooting scene for a while. I remember titanium backup use to break alot of things when i did a restore

I have used Titanium Backup once, didn't work at all, I was really disappointed. Although this was years ago, I never tried it again and don't want to. Anyway - when switching ROMs, I always make sure that Whatsapp syncs everything with the cloud, all accounts in the 'accounts' setting menu of the system have synced, that my Google Photos are synced and then copy pretty much everything from /root/sdcard (your internal memory) to my computer. Then I completely wipe my phone (= wipe system+data+cache+internal storage), install the new ROM, boot it once to see howwell its working, power it down, factory reset it (wiping data) and then copy all of the data of my computer back to the phone, set everything up with my google account and let google download everything. If you have correctly configured the app-backup function of Google, then everything will be about 95% the same, and nothing will be missing. Be sure not to forget to make a TWRP backup of EVERYTHING before full-wiping the phone, so you can always go back if you really need to.
I prefer this method to anything else because you will never any problems with restoring from the cloud or performance issues of certain file-structures being different or whatever. It is clean and works.

I have not tried CM13, and I will ait until sultanxda brings his goodness to CM14.1, then I will switch but - as I have used sultanxda's ROMs on my OnePlus One I can definately recommend t Install his version of CM13 on the OnePlus 3 instead of the nightlies, his optimisations und his update frequency are fantastic and he is a great ROM maker. His ROMs on the OnePlus One made me rediscover the full potential of the device, it's truly amazing.

Last question. Any bugs that needs to be fix from the CM 13 rom
Not for me. I am no longer OCD about my phone.. don't care what color the signal strength font is, etc... The phone works so well stock, that there isn't much I would change other than adding some functionality with the camera and some good video editing software...
I played with a few ROMs, they were ok, but once the newness wore off(2 days) I went back to stock, and am now running the Community builds and like them the best.
Fast, stable, great battery life... no complaints...

Stock ROM or Nougat custom ROM?

Hi to everyone, recently I acquired (as a gift) this device (a RIO-L03, probably I'll change it soon, it's a "temporal" device). The performance and the battery are pretty good by my standards, but I don't like EMUI in overall. It is worth it flash a custom ROM for more performance/experience or just stay here in Marshmallow with EMUI? What are the advantages and inconvenients?
Thanks in advance, people.
Well, It depends on wha you're looking for.
I have my L03 and it was running MM B340 (it was supposed to solve whatsapp notification problems) but as time passed by It started to have some issues with apps like twitter, FB, Instagram and Whatsapp (Forced Closes). Furthermore, I commenced to experience some lag on my phone, even when just one app was running. In the end I decided to flash a N rom (AOSP Extended 4.4) and I can tell you is a lot better then the MM. Faster, easier to use, with no lag and battery life is greater. The only thing I can complain about is the CAMERA. This is, you lose your native camera app (huawei cam) by flashing in the ROM the Google cam. It's not as good as the original one and GC doesn't contain as many functions as the Huawei one.
Customization is amazing. And the possibility to root it is really easy.
However, you said it is only temporary and it might take more time to flash than the time you'll have this phone. So you keep it, you won't regret having a N rom. You change it, enjoy it as it is.
Regards.

Thanks for being the only person who reply, seriously. I've considered too much that option because, as like you, the phone has started to lagging and certanly it lost a bit of smoothness in overall (especially in menus like Settings or just in basic apps like WhatsApp). I can't complain too much about the camera because it just expendable for me, same with root. (I mean, I like Xposed/Magisk but I prefer just the personalization of AE with Substratum and still playing Pokémon GO and LL!, lmao). Again, thanks for your time, and I'll change to AOSP Extended soon. (Further, I'm going to give this phone to my mother, hopefully she's gonna have a fluid and solid experience)
Cheers.
Very thanks for this informative post! where is the best rom rootless for my RIO-L03?
i need ur support for custom rom
please
i need ur support that i downloaded more than rom for devise g8
and try flash it Rom from t wrap but appear error 7

Z2 Plus overall usability review with custom roms and bugs, battery life, heating etc

Hi Z2 plus users.
After lot of analysis and research, I finally ordered Lenovo Z2 plus today. Got a great deal.
8k INR / approx 125 USD
I have the option of getting Redmi Note 4 as well at approx 150 USD / 10k
I have gone through lot of videos on youtube with different custom rom reviews of Z2 plus, pros, cons etc.
My main concerns are:
- Battery Life
- Heating issue
- Overall usability without digging into custom rom installations and updates very frequently. I will install custom rom but would like to use it as daily driver for few months at least before I look for new updates etc. (Time is the issue - Don't get much of it these days to do all the research and experiments )
With custom roms like AICP, Jaguar - how is the battery life in terms of SOT?
How is the heating issue with custom roms which this phone is infamous for?
I saw a review from Indian tech reviewer on youtube suggesting Jaguar R14 is very stable and good rom for this. But I see some complains and users posting different issues in Jaguar rom thread.
Kindly suggest, if it will be good to go for this phone now (after 1.5 yrs of it's launch)?
Can I expect to use it as daily driver without any significant issues for next 2-3 years with custom roms?
At present which custom rom will you suggest with regards to Battery life and heating issue resolution?

I do not have the device yet and that is my dilemma whether to accept it or return it.
Does these roms also have overheating issues?
How is the battery life on these?
CitrusCAF 3.5 by miju12 seems very stable(dont flash custom kernel unless you know what you are doing) and have favourable review from the users.
and Lenovo z2 is better choice anyway
looks okay
Got mine today as well. Same deal as the OP (around $120). First thing done was an upgrade to Nougat. Sept 2016 manufacturing and there was still 30% charge left . Device did heat up during upgrade as it was on charge. Haven't observed any major heating since. I have upgraded (or downgraded) from a oneplus 2 so my criteria of heating may be somewhat biased. A 5 inch display does seem smallish though.
Geekbench 4 was 1720, 3999 which is par for SD820. So no throttling etc.
Just wondering what is so broken about stock ROM ? What's not going well with everyone on ZUI ? I did tweak the DPI to my liking - other than that ROM feels pretty much stockish android. I mean I have heard so much hate about stock ROM for this device?
Edited - Ok I am starting to see oddities. 1. Double notifications (any fixes?)
And the usual follow up questions -
- Does the U touch specialization / gestures (swiping etc) work on the custom roms for this device ? Edited - Yes I guess.
- Would unlocking bootloader reset the device ? If yes, might as well do it before setting up apps etc. Edited - Yes it would like any other device.

I have been using Rooted ZUI (I believe that’s what the stock rom is called) for a few weeks now (Xposed now, but that’s been just a few days). At first I thought I would keep it stock rooted and get all the things I need with Xposed, but the Notification drawer and Lock screen is getting on my nerves. All notifications are ICS Style, i.e. they are not expandable and they have no quick action (except USB connection to PC which lets u choose cam/file mode). Lock screen has this weird image in the middle which just sits there doing nothing. Notifications doesn't get displayed in lockscreen (weirdly I am getting 1 calendar notification there, but nothing else). I tried enabling lockscreen notification for a lot of apps, but it seems to just allow calendar and nothing else.
The U-touch is awesome BTW, but wont let me start Google Assistant voice through it (I like being able to set alarms through it)

Remaining Android Pie 9.0 issues on Pixel 2 XL?

I've been on the fence about upgrading to my main 2 XL (O 8.1) to Pie mainly to get Night Sight -- so appreciate hearing any main issues on Pie that haven't been addressed/patched yet.
Only stayed on 8.1 this long because it's been remarkably rock solid for me on everything. I've read the various Bluetooth, connectivity, battery life, and other issues reported for months after Pie was released. So I've been pretty lukewarm on Pie other than missing out on Night Sight.
It sounds like the BT "disable absolute volume" issue in Pie was fixed via an update just several months ago, so I'm assuming that eliminated one big problem. (I use this with a bunch of BT speakers and headsets so it was a dealbreaker until fixed.) Appreciate it if someone can confirm just to be sure. As much as I really want Night Sight, it's not worth losing battery life or reliable connectivity to get it -- those come first in my book. (I tried sideloading the earlier adapted camera apk with early Night Sight but it won't install on 8.1 -- I surmised it requires 9.0.)
Sure, I could wait for Q, but for my usage, I prefer updating to mature, stable releases whenever possible for my daily driver phone.
So how is Pie doing today on the Pixel 2 XL? Any remaining issues?
Actually, I didn't face any issues except RAM management, I mean this is the same with Pixel3 series. To deal with this, I use ZRAM mechanism to solve, just flash a custom kernel and download EX kernel manager or some tweak tools and then enable and expand the ZRAM to 1024M. The battery life is amazing that SOT could reach 8 hrs as common sense. Night sight has been a default feature in the stock camera when you upgrade to the latest version, also, you can use custom Gcam if you like, which contains more new features such as long exposure, etc. Hope you can be happy with your device.

[Hmmm, just tried posting this from my phone browser and it didn't appear here. So, let me try this again -- might be a near-duplicate posting, but I added more here.]
Here's my perspective on "Disable Absolute Volume" (DAV), and why it's important:
It's buried under the "Developer options" under "System" settings in Oreo once you enable the Developer options. Essentially DAV gives you finer control over the volume steps for Bluetooth-connected audio devices. Think Bluetooth speakers, headphones, hands-free headsets, and your car.
For instance, without DAV enabled, the volume might jump up or down too much (sometimes drastically) or nowhere near enough with each press of your phone's volume keys. So it makes it really hard or sometimes impossible to find the sweet spot for volume control from your phone. IIRC, without DAV enabled, my music volume to my various BT speakers from my Pixel 2XL was far too low, with only the last couple of volume steps jumping it way up loud -- nothing moderate in the middle. And my BT speaker was sometimes in another room from the phone, so you can guess how frustrating that was.
With DAV enabled, you get more moderate/finer steps in volume from the phone, like we used to have in earlier Android versions. In other words, we have to turn off absolute volume control by enabling DAV to get back to where we were. I guess that's called progress these days. There were a small number of earlier reports that Pie 9.0 broke DAV, but seem to recall seeing just a few users say it was fixed via a monthly update in late 2018 (Dec?). So I'm looking for confirmation here. IIRC, Google wasn't even acknowledging it as an issue for months on their support forums.
I listen to so much music from my phone via BT (near-daily) and use a hands-free headset for calls, that as much as I REALLY want Night Sight for the camera, it's not worth it to me if I lose DAV or have additional wireless connectivity issues or other deal-breakers.
So that's why I posted my original query above. I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to 9.0 now vs. holding pat with Oreo 8.1 (but no security updates sucks) vs. waiting for Q (and its bugs as a new release). The fact that Pie isn't getting a 9.1 update isn't comforting either. Sure, Google can push some updates via the monthly patches, but it tells me that they're putting their dev resources mainly into Q instead.
Hope this helps, and I'd appreciate any responses that could help me make a more informed decision either way -- as this is my main phone.

Thanks jayxiao171735. I'm not rooting or installing custom kernels, so this one is stock Android. Appreciate your other comments.
So are you saying that RAM management is worse on Pixel 2 XL with stock Pie just like the Pixel 3's issues in this regard (closing other apps more quickly, etc.)? I do stream music in the background a lot -- been hearing how a number of users have reported Spotify closing on the P3 when you do something else RAM-intensive like open the camera app. (I don't use that service, but guessing it'll be similar for other background streaming apps.)
I'm starting to wonder if I should just skip Pie and wait for Q since I've waited this long already. Do we keep the onscreen buttons as an option in Q? Not having tried the gestures in Pie, for the moment I really like having the buttons. As long as we keep them as an option either way, I'm good with that.
Other than missing out on Night Sight, pretty much everything has been rock solid on my Pixel 2 XL on 8.1. It's been hands-down the best phone I've owned to date. Snappy, reliable, great battery life, awesome camera even without NS, and no bloatware!
Got it as a free carrier warranty replacement for an older phone past its prime, so I'm not complaining at all. I'm just trying maximize my enjoyment. It's great as-is, but as an amateur photographer, I feel like I'm missing out on Night Sight on occasion. But it's not worth it to me to take on other more substantial issues, annoyances, etc. to get it. So that's why I'm trying to find out what's in store if I upgrade to Pie currently. Typically late OS releases tend to be the most stable and fixed, but not always.
Thanks.

First, I think keeping on Oero is not bad, Pie is pretty good, since I have used Oero version for a long time, I cannot say they are completely different. Although Pie has a better UI design and system animation, it doesn't interfere with your casual usage. Don't try Q now, it is far more stable and reliable, also I feel it is really laggy compared to Pie. As you said, stay on Oero might just miss the night sight camera feature, but you can still take brilliant pics on daytime. If you like to take pics of the night scene, Huawei P30 series might be more suitable for you. Apart from that, I didn't face any issue of RAM management on Oero like Pie. Overall, I do believe you can stay on Oero if you like. By the way, I like taking photos same as you, my INS is freman004, we can follow each other. Thanks.

Question Android 12 update for OnePlus 9 Pro.

I'm seeing lot's of posts about LE2123, LE2120, LE2125 being upgraded to android 12, with lots of people experiencing issues with unstable phones. Please humour me by answering this simple poll.
I would wait a while before updating. 12 has been a bomb and 11 isn't much better across all device manufacturers. No easy fixes.
Let Mikey try it...
You might get more useful info with a poll asking whether people experienced issues. After following several threads across various sites, I'm convinced that only a small minority have actually experienced "issues" (as in, something legit broken). The other vocal folks are just complaining that a feature was removed or changed and they don't like it. It's no different than every other major release.
Every major version is going to be a bit different from the previous one (that's the whole point of the new version number), and there's always a small risk and a small percentage of people who experience issues (which are almost always resolved by a wipe or clean flash). That's why OP tells you to back up your data before upgrading.
I updated to A12 and I am able to see some differences.
1. I've got 5g, volte and vowifi finally (5g on scnd SIM slot)
2. DPI is messed up in certain apps and options.
3. Battery life is worse (but I've been using stock kernel on A11, so this could make a difference)
4. I like A12s way to grant permissions.
Was it worth update? If you like your phone up to date - yes. If you care about system stability and look, stick with A11 until fixed A12 shows up.
It's not a coincidence that OP suspended A12 update. They see it was not ready.
My phone is OP 9 pro EU version. Did wipe it after update.
OnePlus is pulling its OxygenOS 12 update for the OP 9 and 9 Pro
Hopefully a bug-free release will be out soon

Good thing they pulled it before our OnePlus9Pro forum blew up!
I have the le2123 and I have encountered so many bugs. I did a wipe data and now all seems to make sense.
Now I'm pretty happy with this update. Let's see the battery in the next days.

Nice to hear, did they deliver on the throttling?

I think yes? Found this option "high performance option" system always run at max performance.
When enable it an icon in the status bar appears but I think they forgot to change the style of the icon because it's a little oversized.
Apart from that after wipe no more glitched animation, more smoothness in all the operations, allarm clock work, icons and font now are ok and layout too (before i have mismatched dpi in various apps), keyboard now have the button for pull down (before there isn't). The only thing now it's Netflix on platstore, it say device not support.
Rooted with success with no problem, magisk hide works and installed Netflix with apk works too.
