Do you have some tips to avoid screen burn on amoled? - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Hi, I'm a new amoled user. I've bought a op7t and I'm pretty happy with it.
But I read everywhere about screen burn problems.
I know this is a tech issue with amoled. And this is my first amoled display.
So do you have some tips for me to avoid screen burn? Someone talk about notifications area? Using maps (absurd), time-lapse and fingerprint is that all true?
Thank you in advance

I'll make an effort of sharing my experience with AMOLED screens and what caused the burn in
Persistent screen elements like the status bar icons and navbar at the bottom left permanent ghosting on the screen. The causes I think were the increased screen timeout (30 minutes) and using GPS with the screen on as well as having a navbar that wasn't translucent or changing colors.
Mind you this happened over a period of 3 years and I didn't notice anything unless I really looked for it. I watched videos and the ghosting didn't affect anything. Only on bright backgrounds such as a white screen or gray did it pop up. Not enough to be noticeable or hinder my viewing experience and I am very particular about that.
Tips I've since been using after getting that experience for my new phone (7T 1907)
1) Keeping screen brightness under 50 percent unless absolutely required
2) Quickly switching between various different apps for a couple of seconds when using my phone for a long time
3) Keeping the screen off while using GPS and occasionally turn it on for looking at directions
4) You can turn off status bar icons from inside the settings to prevent them from causing the burn in under the status bar settings
5) Not increasing the screen timeout to anything over 2 minutes
This is what I know and have researched about OLED screens in general. If you have anymore questions I'll be willing to help.
It has been over five months since I got it and replaced my old phone. So far so good

Screen fading in and out at random??

Hey, I am new to this forum, but just go the EVO (first Android phone) and loving it maybe too much. I'm also working on a couple of games which I hope to share soon.
Anways, I got mine on the 4th since I pre-ordered it a couple weeks in advance from Best Buy. I have been lucky to not have any of the problems others have been having, but something I just noticed recently, and only in the Market, but this could be because it is a mainly white screen that you stay on for long periods while browing apps so it is easier to notice.
The screen seems to randomly fade slightly darker and then back to normal, but slowly. I don't mean the regular screen idle fade because I have mine set to 10 minutes. I will be scrolling, and then the screen will just fade slightly and then in like 5-10 seconds will go back to normal, and then fade again in a couple minutes.
Not a big deal as sometimes it's hard to notice, but just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if there is anything that can be done about it.
Thanks!
It sounds like you have Auto Brightness turned on. In your setting, go to sound & display, click on Screen Brightness. Uncheck the "auto brightness" box.
I think that was it! The screen is also a little brighter too.
Sweet, thanx a lot!
I had the same problem, Thanks for the tip.

Click to collapse
Now you can go back to that same area in settings and up the brightness manually if you'd like.
Screen fading in and out/Flickering
Hello fellow XDA'ers
I am experiencing a similar problem. My screen fades in and out and flickers.
I unchecked the Auto Brightness option. The screen did become a bit brighter. But this did not resolve the issue. The fading in and out and flickering continues.
If any of you fellow XDA'ers have experienced this and know of a solution, would you be so kind as to share your solution.
Thanks so much

Display contrast dynamically changing

Just got my hands on the Epic Touch 4g about two hours ago, and in playing with it I notice the apparent brightness/contrast of the screen changes slightly based on the content currently being displayed.
This is most apparent when scrolling through the home screens-- on the default screen the bottom icons are nice and bright-- but when panning over to the empty calendar (which I'm guessing is supposed to be white, i'm guessing, but looks more grey than anything) the icons at the bottom are dimmer and less contrast-y (yes, I know that's not really a word).
I noticed in the Display settings you can adjust the "Screen Mode"-- but it exhibited this behavior no matter when setting I chose (Dynamic, Standard, and Movie).
The effect almost reminds me of lower end flat Plasma TVs with cheap circuitry that can't handle certain currents when an all-white (or mostly white) screen is being displayed-- it limits the current, so the end result is a light grey screen instead of a bright white display.
Is this considered one of the features of the phone (perhaps to save batter life or screen life)? Anyone else notice similar behavior? Don't want to freak out if this is normal, but at the same time it's a little disconcerting to see something whose major claim to fame is it's "brilliant display" exhibit such behavior.
Go back to the display options, scroll down to "auto adjust screen power" and turn that off and see if that helps...
That was exactly it... thanks.
Nice to know this is a software feature and not something glitchy with the hardware.

Screen flicker test

Hello. Since getting my new HTC M8 the other day I noticed that the screen can flicker for a fraction of a second when in the setting menu.
The issue really comes to light when you use a screen filter, I use the app that is literally called screen filter. If you set the app to about 20% and then you go into the settings menu you start seeing microsecond white flashes when backing out of and entering new menus.
Does anyone else experience screen flicker on there M8. I like to know if its my phone thats the problem or the screen filter app. If someone wouldnt mind testing my steps above out, it also helps if you have the screen filter on in a dark room as the flashes become even more pronounced.
Thanks

Display can't differentiate between black color, and dark colors?

I was watching a video on my PC's LCD screen, but I decided that I would continue it on my A70 instead.
I knew that I'd get different colors because it has an AMOLED display, but I didn't think that most of the dark areas in the video would get turned off! The screen literally turns off the dark colors even if they weren't totally black! And the more you dim the brightness of the screen, the more pixels it turns off! This can also be seen when you put a video lock screen that has dark colors and you dim the brightness. You're gonna see that most of the pixels turn off, and the colors of the remaining pixels will get distorted.
I've faced this issue on the A70, but on my brother's A50 the display is totally fine.
*Current lock screen wallpaper that I can clearly see this issue on: Decor (animated)
PS: My phone previously had the touch panel issue(where the screen feels sluggish when scrolling, and would sometimes click on stuff by itself), which didn't get fixed with the OTA update, which forced me to go Samsung's customer care, which they told me that they need to remove the firmware altogether(because the OTA update didn't install successfully), and then flash the already updated firmware, which indeed fixed the touch panel issue to a degree(it still happens but not as frequent as before).
Do you guys face this issue, or is it just my device? I also sent a message to Samsung explaining the issue through Samsung Members app, but they told me to go get the correct firmware flashed.

Screen too dim, backlight(Maybe) not working.

Hi all. I have a rather weird issue. After droping(oops) my phone, I ordered a new lcd. I shelved the phone as it was unusable until the screen arrived. When the screen arrived, I saw that the battery was dead. I charged it and changed the lcd. That's for the backstory. Fast forward to now. When I open the phone, the screen lights up at full brightness as one would expect at the android one logo. It stays there at full brightness for about 8secs But as soon as it starts loading android the screen dims to absolute dark. In the beginning I thought the phone was closing, you can't see anything... Unless you close the lights.
But even in absolutely dark room, the screen is still very dim, barely discernible. The phone works absolutely fine otherwise, touch camera sound etc. I backtracked the process and put it's original screen on, but it does the same.
I tried disabling auto brightness it does nothing. In fact, changing brightness from the slider does absolutely nothing whatsoever.
Tried calibrating the sensors from the engineering menu(not sure it was called that, the one you enter when you put numbers on the call menu) they seem to be working, but the brightness doesn't change.
Tried removing the battery for a prolonged amount of time (around 6 hours iirc). Still same.
At this point i'm thinking:
1)Software problem. I will really need to hard reset the whole thing, which i'd rather not, and hope for the best.
2)Bad screen, which doesn't explain why the previous one has the same problem, or why the screen works during the logo.
I hope I was able to give enough info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I'm having almost the same issue (display very dim, but for me it is always very dim) and this manifested not after any dropping or screen replacement, I guess I just wrongly inputed a button sequence that configured the mobile in this weird status. It is really annoying as it is almost impossible to unlock sims, basically the phone is unusable, very frustrating....
Hey there, did anyone found a solution for this issue?
Has anyone solved this problem?
Have you found what was causing this?
I’ve the same issue, replaced the lcd on a xiaomi mi a1 and the backlight is present at the logo startup but completely black after that.[br]
On a dark room I can barely see the screen and all it’s working, but adaptive light button is missing, seems like the bootloader is able to use the backlight but not android itself
I have the exact same problem, i really hope someone knows a solution to this. I tried pretty much anything within my capabilities
