Hello everyone

Hi chaps, im new to this phone, purchased it 2nd hand, i came from a galaxy note.
Like to say hi and i look forward to chatting to you all and checking out all your work.
The guys who have written the tutorials, i came from the Note, and the htc is a bit more complex to Root, Flash etc than samsung phones but immediatley, THANKYOU to you all, as a new One x user i was wary and didnt want to brick it and all your tutorials on here are so easy to follow and concise so thanks, im so looking forward to getting to grips with some roms, themes etc etc.
First impressions, Fantastic work chaps, the stuff im seeing on here is awesome, when i first got my note i thought it rocked, but 6 month down the line i was so dis-illusioned with it and the development section had taken an ugly turn and too many notes were bricking even by as much as attempting to flash anything, this made up my mind, i wanted a quality phone that was reliable and i can see that the HTC is a very solid piece of kit, unlike samsungs, quite recoverable from major problems, that makes me smile.
Im just getting to grips with checking out roms now to see which im going to try first.
Just on another matter a minute, ive noticed posts all over the internet about people complaining about signal dropping on 3 network, im on 3 and when i first got my orange locked ONE x unlocked, i experienced similar, but its interesting to note that after following the one x tutorial to unlock the bootloader the problem has been corrected, ive gone from 1 to 2 bars in my house on hsdpa, to 3 to 5 bars after unlocking bootloader, this seems odd because i cant see how the bootloader has anything to do with signal related issues, but i just wondered if anyone had ever experienced similar, maybe it was just 3 having a bad week and theyve sorted the issue, who knows.
Anyway, glad to be onboard and more than happy to be a One x owner.
Adios.

[Q] Samsung note 2

First of all I would like to thank all of you hear that have sound wisdom in dealing with my nightmare. I'm so new to this that my last phone's antennae is still on the top of my care and phone is in it's big carrying bag LOL. I'm 50 years old but am not done trying to learn something new. Here's the problem. I have a note 2 i317 that i bought online from someone. It's build number is jedi xp 9 android 4.1.2 Dernel version 3.0.31 SaberKernel_07+ptmr3 ect ect. So I have little to no signal strength and cannot hook up to the internet. I've called straight talk and spent an hour or two with them as well to no avail. I've been up and down these posts but I'm lost as how to employ some of the things that I have read about. Remember that I'm a noob to the max. I would love someone to put the instructions on how to fix my phone, in plain english that i can understand. I thought I might have a bad sim card as well but don't know how to check it. I've put at least 6 different apn's in and nothing. My old phone worked great in my house now i have this 500 dollars ornament that I can barely even get calls on. PLEASE can someone help me? I would be very grateful to say the least. I've read if you install something wrong that you can brick your device (whatever that means, but it doesn't sound good). I will be anxiously awaiting for the bravest soul to write me back. I say brave cause with me it might take a while. Sorry
Sincerely
Ed
You only 'thought' that you may have a damaged sim card but did you try to change it to a new one?

Would love to help you Ed, need more information on what you mean by 'low signal / cannot connect to internet'. Do you have normal phone service i.e. make calls & send receive texts?
Did the phone ever work at one point, or once you gained possession and tried it, you got the described result? I don't have your AT&T version phone but may be able to help with more info from you.
Is the modem is ur carrier modem?
Have u tried to change the modem to your carrier modem?
Edit : I mean modem+csc

Yes it does work with voice and text messages but no mms and I can't connect to the internet cause of the weak signal I suppose. I haven't tried a new sim card just yet. Installed one that they sent me 5 months ago but when I called them today to activate it was no longer any good. They told me I took too long to activate it and they were sending out another one. As for the signal ...it's very weak. Like one bar two at the most. When we went to oshkosh over the weekend I saw that most everyone was on their cell phone and I couldn't call my kids unless I went searching for an area where my phone would work. I never had this problem before with my other phone that was through straight talk. I spent all day today looking for some more possibilities here and saw that maybe my modem on the phone is no good. I tried to download one and I did but haven't put it into the phone cause I'm scared that I might do it wrong and then the phone will be even more messed up than it is. i believe it's this one i717-ics-ucle2. The guy said it worked good for his straight talk. But if you all think that it's something different then please let me know. Thank you all very much for your time and patience with me. I will definitely try to learn more now that I found this wonderful website.

Hi Ed,
the phone has been modified by the owner who sold it to you. He has changed the software oh the Note2. The Problem is we don't know whether there was any problem in signal for him as well. First check whether the SIM is working fine on any other phone. If it does, then I'm afraid you might have to restore the phone to the original Software to make sure this is not a Hardware issues.

and yes dont try to use traingle away in custom rom as it need stock rom orelse it may lead to brick , just do some reading there or wait for proper assistance from some1 using the At&T variant
Ed, I'm hoping the links provided to you from other posters has helped. Some of the suggestions have been to try flashing new modems (you're hesitant) and even to install a new ROM. If you have managed to correct your problem, kindly update the thread so other users can benefit from your experience.
If you've had no joy, pursue within the forum for your specific device (AT&T it seems) and good luck!

Hi all and thanks again for the help you have given me. I just got my new sim card today and it seemed to help. I can get on the internet now but my signal is still only one bar and sometimes not there at all. But at least I can connect via wifi. So the sim was partly to blame. Tweeny...I never said that I wouldn't put another radio or modem on my phone, I'm just not too sure about how to do it just yet. I don't want to ruin my phone anymore than it is. I should just dive into it and see what happens. If anyone else has anymore ideas as to why i have poor reception and also I still can't mms, please let me know. Thank you all once again. I will be a regular visitor here and hopefully one day I can be as confident and resourceful as all of you. God bless you all
Hi ed
i reckon u could read up and try flashing a different modem. beyond that flash a different rom. but u obviously have a lot of reading b4 that. good luck

Samsung Galaxy s3 (android noobie)

Hey I have done some reading but I am a little confused.
I have a phone that will not call out to other numbers due to being locked,
I also have another 2 phones that will only use wifi. The sim card in and still not a detection.
This forum looks like the right place to help but I just don't really know what I'm looking for.
Could someone provide me with a little information about what I need to do with my 9300/9305 phones to get them back to normal.
(sorry I posted in the wrong section)

[Q] Help rooting my Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy S3

Hello, I'm new to these forums. I bought a Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy S3 (SCH-S960L). And i am pretty new to rooting, custom ROM's, etc. And because of that reason, along with the fact that i bricked my last Straight Talk phone after incorrectly attempting to root it, I am now quite apprehensive to go about rooting. I am not too keen on the idea of rooting my Straight Talk phone with any root that is specified to Sprint, T-Mobile or another carrier/model of phone, at least not without being sure that i am able to with no problems. I would like to have the most knowledge i can gather about rooting this specific model of phone before i go about with actually doing it. So recently i have been looking through any information i am able to find online and through the forums about how I was going to go about with rooting. However, I cant seem to find hardly anything on how to root this specific model of phone, and any information i do find seems to be iffy with reliability for my carrier, and i would really hate to mess something up. So my question is, could ANYONE help guide me through this process so i can successfully root my device without messing something up and having a $399 dollar brick on my desk. Thanks in advanced.

Last_kmsg: IOMMU DebugFS Support Enabled

Hello everyone,
Long time mystified lurker, first time poster.. before you jump my arse please know that I have searched the forums to the best of my abilities. I am only able to find answers regarding custom kernels/unrelated posts. I have an unrooted completely stock out of the box ATT carrier locked S20 Ultra 5g (SM-G988U) with the Snapdragon 865. Please forgive me because I am learning and doing my best to provide relevant information. But within my recovery logs for last_kmsg I get a big NOTICE stating tace_printk() is allocating extra memory and that IOMMU DebugFS has been enabled. I cannot seem to figure out why this notice is appearing and I cannot get any explanation from ATT or Samsung. I recent called ATT via 611, after being connected to a manager and laying out my question, I was hung up on and my sim card was no longer recognized. I tried putting my sim into a carrier unlocked moto g7 play and it also does not think I have inserted the sim. I had to go into the ATT store to purchase a new simcard and the new one works perfectly. My data was never turned off in my account and my sim card was supposedly still active according to the store employee.
Again guys, so sorry for the dummy talk... thanks for sticking with me so far!
This may or may not sound stupid but it appears I may have a virtual machine running on top of my android system?? I ran a GPU Benchmark and my GPU Load never increased from 0% and my CPU seemed to have been doing all the work.
I cannot get answers from XDA forum searches,, Googling, ATT, Samsung, employer and I am genuinely concerned because I work for a financial institution and at one point had my work email configured on this device. I handle lots of PII so I have been taking unpaid vacation to try to figure this out without much luck.
I have not and could not possibly cover everything I have tested/searched/noticed. I am basically either a lot dumber than the average bear or my internet searches are being filtered to make this troubleshooting extremely difficult. At this point I am going out of my comfort zone to post online for the first time ever on any forum so please be gentle with me. Also, I could literally talk for days about what I've done and what I have figured out these past couple weeks so PLEASE ask me questions if you have any. You can mock me and call me stupid, please just do so in a manner that details where I am going wrong.
Sorry for the crappy sentence structure and grammar... I was a sailor and not a college student for a reason! Thanks for any support you can provide!
Much love
so you went looking into device kmsg logs and found something u dont understamd and assume thats what killed ur sim card?
lol
thats normal output on many samsung devices.. its not anything nefarious.. not sure what u mean about a virtual machine running lol.. i suppose if u installed and set one up maybe ones running?
either way it sounds like ur device is fine/normal and ur just looking into stuff u dont quite understand.. and i can guarantee att or sammy reps etc know less than most ppl lol
that being said, sim cards can fail sometimes and need to b replaced.. ive had a few die randomly over the years.. it happens. It also indicates bad sim seeing as how it didnt work in ur other device eithet.

I have noticed this same thing. The warning message obviously states that it is unsafe for production use therefore how is this supposed to be normal? I am just as concerned with this warning message as you are. I hope someone that knows something more about it will come forward and provide an answer that actually offers some kind of real explanation as to what is going on here.
