Question Redmagic OS 4.0 update contacts not showing in messaging app - Nubia Red Magic 6

I have a Redmagic 6 Pro and just did a System Update to the latest OS - NX669J_UNCommon_V4.21.
Messages is now not showing Contact Names. Most of my contacts are setup with international Codes +XX. Messages is showing local number 0XX.
Is there a fix for this?
P.S. This has changed as there was no issue prior to the update.

I am having the exact same problem. Very frustrating. If anybody can find a fix it will be very much appreciated. If not hopefully they issue a patch to correct this problem sooner rather than later.

Is anyone else having this problem?

There were similar reports for other users back when Android 9 was released (on other devices).
If you haven't already, try clearing the cache of the messages app; if that doesn't work, try clearing data and cache (shouldn't affect you actual messages, but back up just in case) and finally, try uninstalling the last update to the app (if you can) and reinstall afterwards.
Also, make sure messages has permissions granted to access contacts. Make sure the international code is present in contacts phone numbers.
I don't have a RM6 (got 5G) - my spouse does but hasn't updated yet.

UPDATE: FOUND FIX.
1- In factory Contacts app, open advanced settings and export v.card back-up of contacts.
2- Clear data and cache in factory Contacts app, phone app, and messaging app.
3- Reboot phone.
4- In contact app, import v.card back-up to phone and default Gmail.
5- All should be good.
(Not all steps may be necessary.. it's just what I did to get things working).

Hey mate. Thanks for this. I actually cleared contact data and resynced back to my Google account and I think that also fixed it (for some reason I couldn't find the vcard after I exported).
Another issue I have noticed. If you get a Message from an unknown Contact you can Choose "Add Contact" but there is nowhere to add a new Contact, only to search and add to existing.
Thanks for your follow up.

Can confirm - clearing data on contact storage is all that's needed.

Surely there must be some solution as I will run out or screen if it happens any more
Hi,
Had exactly the same issue.
The problem for me was restoring the backup file created by Sprite.
I resolved my issue by not restoring the messaging dB's - and everything was OK - The reverse is make a backup but not the messaging dB's then restore.
Hope this helps somewhat.
Matt
Hi After doing some googling I found a tool that might help for some people but it didnt for me. someone else might ba able to shed some light
1) use the DBViewSP editor to go to cemail.vol
2) under that go to 'pmailNamedProps' and select it to edit the values
3) scroll down to the very last 2 values, which should be called 'UnreadCou...'
4) delete them
5) restart
Please if you do do this make a backup of your .vol file 'just in case'!

Unable to delete all messages

i am trying to empty my sms inbox but the option to delete/empty an entire message folder is deselected.
i go to: text messages > menu > folders, and option 3.Clear Text Messages in unable to be selected.
anyone have any ideas to re-enable this option?
thanks!
Ummm what Rom version are you using, did you update your phone at all ever since you recieved it. Cause all you do is pretty much go to menu > folders > menu (again) and delete message on every folder that you want to delete it from.

i am using rickys latest rom. i know how to do it, the problem is the option to delete all is not highlighted and available for selection...although i can see the option.
Oh yah I know what you mean try this go to your inbox where you can see your messages and you will have to delete each manually, and then empty the trash... this is the only way you can pretty much do it...
Does the ROM have Q Inbox Extender included?

is this the only way you can do it too? i swear that i used to be able to empty all messages from the folders menu...
same problem with mine- when deleting messages manually 1 by 1, the loading thing just spins and never actually deletes the messages. someone please help, my phone is so slow its almost useless
@johnnylavah:
Install Q Inbox Extender. It will give you the functionality to remove all messages.
@suprajztwenty:
Sounds like your cemail.vol is corrupt. Remove it, you will loose all your MMS, SMS and e-mail. It will re-create when you soft reset and should fix your issue.
easier fix, go to settings-accessability- sms threading-DISABLE!, then delete your messages, and go back and turn threading back on...hope it helps

no more "google contacts" after MoDaCo 2.9

i cannot add a new contact as google contact anymore and can only chose between "SIM" and "Telefon".
can someone help me?
had the same problem, you will need to wipe your phone and that will sort everything out.
I had this problem a while ago and managed to sort it out without have to wipe the phone.
See here:

If you got trouble with Modacos stuff, post it in that in Modacos thread then. Don't make new threads for stuff like this.
ok, thx.
this helps
It's a bit late for you guys, but there is a way to change the Google account settings on the phone without a full factory reset/wipe. Go to Settings > Application Settings > Manage Applications and tap the entry for Google Apps. Tap clear data and confirm, this will wipe your Google account settings. Then go to Settings > Data Synchronisation > Google and you'll be presented with the Google account setup dialogue that you got when you first setup the phone. Enter your new details and the phone will do a full data sync, then you're done.
I did this recently when I switched from a normal GMail account to a Google Apps account with my own domain name.

[Fixed] Fresh 0.53 and no contact pics with text messages

I have wiped everything twice and am not getting any of the contact pictures to appear with my text messages. It happened when I first flashed Fresh .3 but I figured that something didn't wipe correctly. Anyone else see this? The contact pics show up normally under favorites and when scrolling through contacts.
Thanks
Everything shows up fine here. Idk what could cause that. Are you using the stock messaging app?
Yep, I haven't changed anything from the Fresh release with the exception of adding the voicesearch back in.
mine all show up fine too.
do this. delete the contacts.
then resync with google.
I finally fixed it! I opened an adb shell and used the find command to locate all files with mms in the name(find / -name *mms*) and purged them all. Then I reflashed Fresh 0.53 over my current install without doing any wipes and tada, it worked. Thanks for the suggestions.

Problem solved: google contacts sync

I looked for 2 months trying to find the answer to this. For anyone with the same problem, if you get the dreaded "Google sync is unavailable, it will be back shortly." here's the fix.
1. Backup your contacts to a .vcf file using the export function
2. Delete all google contacts on your phone
3. Go to settings - applications - manage applications - Contacts Manager - clear all data
4. Re-sync using settings - accounts - sync now
Worked beautifully for me.
