Lineageos - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Hey, can i use lineageos on my 20x?

The only way is if you're running Android 9, have it rooted (can't root this phone running Android version above 9, maybe 9.1) and there's a LineageOS rom built for the 20x. I don't think there was ever a rom built, so pretty sure you can't unless you build it.

two options: based on emui 9 unlock bootloader via ministryofsolutions and then either -
A) install openkirin custom rom, will work for sure but still stuck on android 10
B) check and see if any GSI rom might work, potentially issues or might not boot at all, but goes up to android 11/12
i plan to replace my battery in a few months, together with a new back casing to get rid of some scratches. with that, i also plan to try and unlock my BL and play around with GSI roms. with a bit of luck, one of them might boot and work android 11/12, here we come?! hahaha

So... I'm a bit out of loop.

I've heard good things about LineageOS and I would like to try it
1) I'm still in Lollipop and I didn't want to update to Marshmallow because of the bootloader troubles there was some ages ago. Is it better if I go from Lollipop?
2) Any missing features or things not working in the Zenfone 2 version of LineageOS? Is there any implemented functionality for the Zenfone Flip Cover?
3) Is LineageOS less prone to freezes and crashes than normal Lollipop? Cuz the main reason I want to switch to LineageOS is because my phone is now very prone to crashes and freezes (And, no, factory resetting doesn't even help). How's the RAM usage? (I have the 2GB RAM model)
4) Just out of curiosity, but I heard about dual boot patching. When it is recommended?
5) Anything more you guys could recommend me to?
As of now I'm in stock Zenfone Lollipop with root, unlocked bootloader and an Xposed I'm not using right now (it might be version 78)

Hello
1) It's okay if you flash from Lollipop. Most tutorials for LineageOS will tell you if you need to upgrade your bootloader to Marshmallow bootloader.
2) I use Groovy Android (the latest version), which is based on Resurrection Remix based on LineageOS (android 7.1), and everything works well! But no functionality for the ZenFone Flip Cover unfortunately
3) I had freezes on the stock ROM, but now with a custom ROM my phone is stable and fast
4) I didn't try this

What ROM to use as daily?

Hello guys,
let's start off, several month's ago i bought Nokia 7 plus just cause for a new contract with the telecom,
due to lack of community custom roms and also able to unlock the bootloader i was a bit done with this phone.
Now my question is what's a smooth, battery friendly and user friendly custom rom to flash on ?
The phone it self feels a bit slow on the stock rom but otherwise it's a great phone.
EDIT : i tried to flash LOS and the device just restart in the boot somehow..

9.0 aosip + bitgapps + latest zest kernel for multimedia and entertainment

I have seen that happening after having a non-stock ROM installed and/or rooting it using Magisk. That seems to change the boot image and that confuses Lineage OS (I think).
I solved that by re-flashing the factory image from Google, booting the phone to TWRP recovery and flashing LOS.
Oh, and my daily driver is just Google's latest stock ROM for bullhead, so Android 8.1 rooted with Magisk and with Franco's Kernel. I like to have Xposed available which isn't available for Android Pie yet.

Vanilla AOSP on Motorola Edge (5G, 2020) ?

I am wanting to install a Vanilla AOSP Android 12 ROM (nothing added, nothing removed. untouched) on my Moto Edge 2020. I am pretty sure this device is supported by Treble.
The latest version that Motorola supports on this phone is Android 11 (I believe it shipped with Android 10.)
Is there any way to get this working, With full display support and OpenGAPPS?
If this is something I could do, what is the best way to get this working without losing data or bricking the phone? (it is my daily driver smartphone.)

Question Downgrade?

Hello, am new to pixel device... My previous device was Xiaomi Mi 11 , my device carne with A13 !my question is there any way to downgrade to A12 I want to flash derfest A12 my fav ROM .. thx in advance
Hello, welcome to Pixel land.
First, in order to flash a factory image, you'd have to unlock your bootloader. If you don't know already, click the yellow How To Guide quick filter at the top of the list of threads in this section and you'll find 3-4 threads that tell how. I also have a link in my signature below - you can use the link for the Pixel 7 Pro - the instructions to unlock the bootloader are the same, and the OP of my Pixel 7 Pro thread is much better organized than my one for the Pixel 6 Pro, in my opinion.
After that, the only way you can downgrade (and have everything working, and not brick your phone is to use one of the two Android 12 Developer Support images for Pixel. There's an Android 12.0 build from February and an Android 12.1 build from July. They will never receive updates, however.
You can always manually flash a Pixel 6 Pro stable Factory Image to re-upgrade at a later date, or use the Official Google Android Flash Tool (OEM Unlocking needs to be toggled on - you may not have to manually unlock the bootloader - the "site" will do that on its own) to re-upgrade.
Any of the stable Android 12 builds at that factory image link should not be flashed because the Android 13 bootloader cannot be downgraded to an Android 12 bootloader, and if you flash everything from 12 Stable but the bootloader, it'll appear to work at first, but it truly won't work correctly - it will not be useable.
If you unlock the bootloader, you should also make sure the Android 13 bootloader is flashed to your inactive slot as well, to avoid the possibility of accidentally bricking your new phone.
Thanks for the fast reply sir much appreciated .. I got the idea ... My device stock unlocked and rooted .. now my question is if I flashed the July A12.1 developer ... Can I flash custom ROM based on A12.1 like derpfest etc ... Sorry I mixed up things here little harder than xiaomi

You're welcome. I don't fool around with custom ROMs except on my 6-year-old or more phones, so I can't answer that question. Part of the best things about having Pixels is the software features Google starts off exclusively on the Pixel stock ROMs.

where to find android 12.1 (12L) roms?

i'm mainly looking for lineage os, but i cant download it from their website and its the only android 12 rom i can find for my phone
also, i have tried the unofficial rom but it fails to flash and my terminal says `xfer: 0.87%`
I have LineageOS 19.1 (Android 12L) on my Google Drive, is for Moto G7 Play, sadly, since it's Arm64, you will have some problems with app restarts
The only issue of this specific ROM is the Ambient Display, it doesn't work, outside that, there are no problems
