What features stop working when you unlock the bootloader? - Sony Xperia XA2 Questions & Answers

From what I have found, SafetyNet and Netflix still work as they would with an unlocked bootloader (at least on LineageOS). Is there any camera or audio functionality missing? Can you still download and watch Netflix/Disney+ content?
I'm sure some of these questions were answered before I just want to be sure before I do something to my phone that I might not be able to change back

Are you using a custom rom or stock? This might be too much to ask but can you install a safetynet testing app (try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.scottyab.safetynet.sample) and send a screenshot of the results? You can uninstall it after

I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader anyway and Widevine L1 and safetynet basic integrity remain. I forgot to copy the screenshots to my computer before installing LineageOS (oops).
On LineageOS Widevine L1 is still there and Netflix/Disney+ work perfect when downloaded from Aurora Store. I haven't bothered checking safetynet because I'm using MicroG meaning it won't pass anyway.

Netflix and unlocked bootloader question

Has anyone else that has their bootloader unlocked been able to download netflix from the play store? I tried but just said device not compatible. I was able to download the apk somewhere else but just wondering it that happened because of the bootloader
Yes it's because of the bootloader

It's been that way since Android 4.0 or something like that.

Na just recently actually
Just download the apk from apkmirror
Though apk mirror works, I'm getting sick of this sort of thing. Kodi doesn't block unlocked bootloaders... I've been a Netflix customer for years... This is really annoying...

Can you guys link to the Netflix APK that works for you?
I also just have my bootloader unlocked running factory Sprint 8.0.0 July patch and when I launch Netflix it shown the Netflix logo and just hangs there. No error just hangs on the Netflix logo.
Thanks!

So there isn't a solution for you, every solution breaks OTA.
The only solution without breaking OTA is relocking bootloader.
Netflix fix:
must be rooted.
go to the root directory with a file manager that will let you like Root Explorer
Go to: /system/vendor/lib
Find the file "liboemcrypto.so" and delete it.
Reboot
go to play store and download Netflix, Hulu and or Vudu

Apps Think OPO 5T is Rooted?

I'm trying to run a couple of apps, namely 'My EE' and 'Sky Q' however both these apps must do some sort of root check which my device seems to fail. I haven't done anything with my 5T other than configure it straight out the box. Does anyone else have this issue?
Based in the UK using EE.
so what's wrong with you, go and get root, now anybody can use their phone without it.

Have you tried using an app that checks safetynet? Does it pass? Magisk manager can check safetynet for you (just the app, not the root zip) and you can install it without rooting.

Safety net is Google's most thorough root checker, so if it passes it's probably not an issue with root.
What problem are you having? Does the app launch? Does it tell you you're rooted? Have you adjusted the display size (dpi)? Have you granted it the permissions it needs before launching?

The app launches however the EE app errors straight away saying it looks like my device is rooted.
The Sky Q app let's me browse TV guide and set remote recordings however if I attempt to watch live TV then it tells me I'm unable to do that on rooted devices.
I'm not sure how to adjust dpi? All permissions if any have been granted.

Play Protect Certified: Device is not certified

Not sure if it has anything to do with unlocking bootloader, but it seems that I can't install Netflix because my device is not certified in the Play Store. Anyone else come across this issue?
It is caused by the unlocked bootloader. It has been that way with Pixels since the originals. The solutions are to root with Magisk (do not know if Magisk works with the Pixel 3 or not) or use a custom kernel when one becomes available provided the P3 works like the P and P2.
Sideload it, done.

what level is your widevine since you have unlocked your bootloader, did it change?
Actually I need to backtrack here, Netflix wont install on a rooted device and while some say it works I've never had it work with Magisk either. On the other hand you can just sideload and it will work fine rooted. I don't actually know what happens if the device is unlocked but not rooted because I've never done that. lol My bad. I would try sideloading though, it's got a good shot at working and nothing lost if it doesn't.
Just download apk file from apk mirror
Works fine

Figured, it's been this way for a fair while now and thats been the fix from the start.
Just open play store in settings\apps, clear data. Reopen the play store and see if it still says it. Might have to do it more than once. I unlocked my bootloader, and I saw that. I had to clear data twice. Now mine shows as certified.

I'm kiinda wondering if the much talked about Titan chip is going to make it harder to hide root. Some of the stuff out there is making that claim. Something related is that I followed a link to a google blog about it and the said that one of it's (Titian's) features is the ability to block unlocking. Not that it did block it, that it had that ability, so presumably it will depend on the OEM whether or not that feature is active. Was wondering where that will put the Verizon guys... Not trying to scare anyone because I haven't run into anything specific that comes from google and says exactly what it does but I know it's got my attention.

from miui global stable 10.0.6.0 I downgraded to 9.6.4 global stable by fastboot method and unlocking the bootloader but its showing device is not certified on play store hence I cant install netflix and use other banking related apps
PS: I'm not rooted and on stock recovery too just bootloader is unlocked
is there any way I could fix that without relocking the bootloader again? I dont wanna root

just magisk it, place safety net in play , HIDE magisk from Playstore and try!
also! if playstore is not allowing! just download the netflix app from

why going thru so much of reflashing / wiping / rooting not rooting hassle?

Here is the solution:
Install this app https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939830832
You'll find a Google Services Framework Id , copy it and go on this website https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/
Paste your GSF id and click register. Your device will get registered with Google. This might take some time to reflect in your PlayStore

Question Will unlocking/rooting lead to Widevine DRM downgrade?

I own 7T Pro and rooting causing to lose L1 was the reason I avoided doing so and then fell off the ROM scene. Willl be getting 11 in a few a days and tried to look up and research but couldn't find a clear specific answer. Is the issue of L1 downgrading to L3 around?. I'll wait to unlock if that's no longer on an issue on the other phones in series. Really don't want to transfer all data and then redo all again cos unlocking wipes everything. I'll just do use the essential apps till we get proper unlocking guides.

IIRC Widevine Level is dependant on bootloader status. So rooting shouldn't have tempered the Widevine level. I know it doesn't exactly answer the question, but if unlocking the bootloader retains L1, then you should be good to go for root.

I'm sorry, maybe my text was a little bit misleading...
To root your device, you need to unlock the bootloader first in any case, yes. But it is the bootloader unlock procedure that "could" potentially downgrade to L3, rooting afterwards does not change Widevine Level. That's what I was trying to say.

It sounds interesting, could you shed more light on this? By "reflashing the firmware and retaining root" did you flash all the firmware files to their respective partitions except for the boot partition as it would have the Magisk patched boot.img? Or you used the "Magisk Install to Inactive Slot after OTA" method?

I don't know the details of it but what i know/remember is that you can just root and then relock the bootloader after which gives you L1 back. I knew about it but wasn't sure if I understood it correctly.

I don't think that would be a recommended approach as it could actually end up bricking the device. Anyways, thanks for your insights.
On the OP8Pro and previous, Pixel 6/7 Pro (nd probably others) you could unlock the bootloader, do a standard root with Magisk, install few modules (UniversalSafetyNet Fix, MagiskHid Props Config) and get a full play store certified device that passes SaefetyNet, Supports. WIdeVine L1, and runs everything (financial apps, etc.).
One the OP10 series, I don't even think Nteflix would even run without a ton of hacking (forget about L1 vs L3).
I left OP for two reasons, one was lack of 2 SIM support, and the other was the impossible rooting sitation with the OP10 Pro.
The 11 solves the dual SIM issue, but it doesn't look like it is easy to root without giving up anything. Hopefully someone proves me wrong.
Having said, I am a pretty happy Pixel 7 Pro user now...

Running banking apps (like Sparkasse pushtan) just fine with root. According to DRM info app, Widevine is on L1, and Netflix is working (at least it loads the main page as opposed to OP10P). I personally do not miss out on anything, even contactless payment is working with third party apps.

So you are saying this is all true after doing a magisk root on a OP 11. Was it a USA version? In any case that is encouraging news indeed.
If I recall, I think the entire issue on the OP 10 Pro was bcause they had moved one of the DRM crypto shared library files to a non standard dir that magisk couldn't patch (or something like that).
Can you check if you device is play store certified -- that + safety net and L1 would confirm that everything should work fine after root.
