GPS issue, up to 100s of meters off - Xiaomi Mi 10T / 10T Pro Questions & Answers

My Phones GPS location is often 100s of meters off my real location. I tried so many things, even got a replacement unit, which did not help. Im not talking about not getting a perfect signal inbetween of skyscrapers, bu with plenty of blue sky visible. Usually the location is off in the way that it lags behind, stays there for minutes, just to jump to my actual location for a few seconds, only to jump back to the wtong location. It happens in all apps the same way. I tried everything I can imagine, tried different MIUI versions (running eea), tried to replace the gps.conf with a europe optimized version. Nothing helped. It starts to drive me a bit crazy
Anyone has any idea or the same problem?
Edit: forgot to mention that if my gps is off, restarting the phone usually sets the location right to the exact spot I am

GPS/Navigation problem... app, mobile or something else?

Hi, I'm really not sure what to make of this problem so maybe you can help me out pinpointing the problem so I can take care of it. I've observed several things and don't know how to connect the dots, or if there's any connection, so let me list what I've been seeing:
1 - I've got TomTom to use on my car.
2 - Worked wonderfully well on the first week or so. Fast to lock onto satellites (10 to 20 seconds), accurate and stable without loosing the lock.
3 - I've noticed from day one that it tends to to locate me a few meters back than what I'm actually am, so if I come about two streets very near one another, the turn on the correct one is a bit hard to to tell without looking at the map.
4 - A week ago, the phone started to take longer to lock my position and won't keep it, it often loses connection with the satellites.
5 - Also, the problem is a lot worse if I stop. It might be accurate while I'm driving over 50mph but, if I stop, the direction I'm facing is lost and then my location. It will place me within 50m to 100m of where I am, which could mean on another street. It has become useless for the slow paced city driving, with red lights and slow traffic.
6 - I haven't changed ROMs or anything major but I have downloaded a few apps, might have taken a few others out, the usual stuff... I'm using Android Revolution HD 31.2.
7 - I've noticed that a lot of times, in regular mobile use, the GPS icon shows up trying to locate my position, even with GPS off. Might be that I have accepted Google's location request or is embedded on some app. Don't know if this has any relation to the workings of navigation or with the timeframe the problem occurred.
8 - A final though... I've always had this problem with standalone GPS devices... They work fine for a few weeks/couple of months and then they seem to deteriorate, having a hard time to locate my position, maintaining a good connection, etc. I have no idea on why this is or if there's some sort of cache I should be cleaning.
Oh, and this happens regardless of the weather... overcasted, rainy days or clear skies, it's all the same.
So any thoughts on how to pinpoint the source of the problem so I can fix it?
Cheers!
Renato

[Q] GPS Problems

If I try to navigate from the Zenwatch, the phone brings up google navigate even if the phone is sleeping. I would think that might be an issue in a pocket, but that's not the biggest issue.
The destination seems to get set correctly but neither the phone or the watch continues to navigate. They both seem to lock up.
Subsequently any other Nav app (I hope Waze gets Wear support soon) is unable to navigate as they are unable to get GPS lock. Looking at other GPS helper apps shows zero sats in range. Stopping/Restarting location services doesn't solve the problem. Only resetting the phone does.
Maybe it's just me. Sprint HTC One Max, stock. Anybody else?
I noticed this the other day when I was testing out navigation for fun. Once I took my phone out of my pocket, it seemed like it was able to get a lock again and things went more smoothly. I know gps can be a bit sensitive sometimes and maybe having it right next to your leg like that blocks the signal?
When the problem (GPS lockup) manifests there is nothing that will get it going other than a phone reset. I normally have my phone in a holder high on my dash where gets good reception, but when it gets in that state, not even one satellite shows a hint of a signal. Today I even made sure to stand outside holding my phone up in clear sky just to be sure.
Even if I don't access nav Google maps or Micro Maps from the watch it still locks up at some unknown point. I normally keep GPS on all of the time and have a number of apps that store locations from time-to-time. When I get in my car, Waze automatically starts but I can't get any sat signals until I reset my phone.
I'm experimenting with a theory that another member brought up in a different thread that there may be a connection with using a watch face that also includes weather and the number of GPS requests it makes. I've changed to the basic face that is in all of the marketing photos and continuing to test. I guess my next step will be to leave the watch at home :crying: to make sure that something wonky hasn't happened with the phone itself.
Are there any other frequent GPS users out there that can confirm or haven't experienced the problem? It doesn't seem to matter if you use the nav functionality on the watch.
The updates this morning seem to have fixed the problem.

[Q] Galaxy Note 4 GPS Issue (Stock)

I just swapped out my SGS3 for a Galaxy Note 4, carried by Verizon, and I'm having GPS lock issues. This phone isn't even a week old.
My phone is as stock as it comes under Verizon. I used Google Maps to drive somewhere across town and it'd place me blocks or miles in the wrong direction. It couldn't track me, either. My phone also notifies me intermittently that it's "Found my location." Lies. Though, at least it knows I'm in California, so that's a start.
I downloaded the GPS Status app to figure out what the problem was. Apparently, satellites cannot fix on my location. The app lists that 0/20 satellites have a fix on me; that number is largely unchanging. If I pull up the app while I drive, the satellites can fix on my location, but as soon as I switch to another app, like Google Maps, it loses my location lock and thinks I'm anywhere within a five mile radius. If I pull the GPS Status app up again (at times, while driving--not always), the satellites can find a lock on me. If I switch out to any other app, the satellites drop me and the process repeats. The GPS lock lasts 10-20 seconds after switching out of the GPS Status app before going to ****.
I've tried taking out and re-inserting the SIM card. No luck. I've tried factory resetting my phone. Some luck, but 16 hours later the same issues began to arise. I've tried doing both at the same time. No luck.
There is another incredibly peculiar thing that happens simultaneously: the stock Accuweather widget that comes with the Note 4 (listed as just Weather under widgets) goes all wonky. That's when I know my phone has gone from being able to acquire, and maintain, a GPS lock, to dementia-ville. And by wonky I mean that it goes from showing the time above the date above the weather above the city to showing the time on the left and the weather and my city on the right. Replacing the widget on my home screen works for a few seconds, or until I refresh the weather, and then it topples over and reports its information from left to right instead of top to bottom.
Specs: SM-N910V
Android: 5.0.1 (stock)
I'll be around to troubleshoot. Any help is appreciated.
I've also been having this problem, without data or wifi it doesn't even try to lock onto my gps location. I also see "location found" when my gps is turned OFF. I've also tried factory reseting and I've even contacted verizon tech support, to no avail they said I had to return the device but my gps worked fine before the update to lollipop so it could be a lollipop bug.
The GPS only works with wifi or data turned on. The GPS on my note 4s work very well.

I see this post is over a year old, but here's a fix in case anyone is still interested: see last post (by the_fixit_guy) in this thread .
This solution fixed the gps on my note 4 and it is working like new now. My battery life has also improved tremedously (probably because the phone isn't constantly trying to get a satellite fix).
I had the location spoof or whatever from dev settings and disabling that fixed my problems.
I had GPS issues on my Note, and that worked for me! Thanks!

Anyone having issues with Waze and GPS?

Having issues with waze app and GPS. I've always had GPS issues with all of the Note series, so this doesn't surprise me. But this time around it seems like waze is the only one acting oddly. Specifically when I'm on a guided route waze intermittently sees me in a different area, most commonly when I'm on the highway it will see me on a side street running parallel to the highway. So then it thinks I'm off course and routes me back onto the highway or another direction, but I'm still on the highway. Sometimes I think it even sees me traveling a different direction, many times I'll be on the highway and it will want me to do 2 u-turns, changing directions twice but ending up going the same way as before. I also see the arrow icon representing my car on the map will constantly turn as if waze can't tell which direction I'm traveling.
My first thought is faulty GPS. I've ran Google Maps and it seems pretty solid, with none of those errors, but I'll have to test some more. Just wanted to see if anyone else got this? I may switch back to an older APK and try that as well.
No problems here. I noticed the 7's gps is way faster than my note 4 too. It finds my location on a second. My note 4 would take 5 to 10 seconds to lock in
I am having the same issue with Waze on my Note 7. It thinks i have turned onto a side road so it trys to redirect me to the the road im acually on. Its seems to think im about 30 to 50 feet to the right on the screen no matter what direction on the compass i am going.
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
I've been having an issue when I'm stopped at the light, and the screen will start to spin around. It's like Waze forgot which way I was going so turns me around & recalculates the route...repeat.
Improvement over my Note 3 which regularly couldn't find a GPS signal or lost it in the middle of driving somewhere.
Were issue
I have been having issues also bit but only with the voice guidance. I get hazard alerts but that's it. Any thoughts on this?
waze always seemed to place me about 50 feet to the right of the road. It spent a lot of time recalculating on/off ramps when it didn't think I was driving through corn fields. I figured it was just a calibration issue with my device and didn't do anything about it before swapping it for a non-exploding phone.
I had no problem with my recalled Note 7. The replacement is messing up with waze. All the symptoms listed above are happening. Ugh
Hmm..that's not good..I still need to get mine replaced...
No GPS issues with Waze on my note 7. I use it daily and mine is a replacement. The only issue im having with Waze is the voice commands. The three finger option and waving just don't do anything! Anyone have an issue with that? I want my one eyed purple monster back!
IDK, I haven't checked on my Note 7 yet, I find this a bit funny though, Most GPS's should be accurate to within something like 5 feet, They are really accurate to within fractions of an inch but the Government and Military makes sure that the firmware on the GPS's for use by the general public are locked out of that level of accuracy. It really is a joke these days.
Do a search and in the search box enter in 2##2 to enable debugging and then enter in ##@rawgps and it will show you what your phone is reporting as the actual raw GPS via a yellow arrow. Send in a debug log on the very bottom of the settings every day. Could be possible that Waze can make adjustments to the note 7. I personally haven't noticed any issues with either phone yet, I do also keep my phone in a case and in a windshield car holder with a good view of the sky. When I ran the app for the first time though I did have to toggle location off and on to get Waze to get a GPS lock.
I returned my replacement unit and got another Note 7. No change. Waze is still showing me taking exits and being on the side road before correcting. Very annoying and the constant recalculate and accompanying chime make it onerous to use. Google maps seem to be fine. I submitted a ticket to waze as well as sending log files. I hope a fix comes soon. I need my alerts when commuting.
I fixed my Wave problems. Apparently when you do the smart switch transfer, it transfers some settings or calibrations maybe. I went into phone settings, application, waze, long press storage, clear cache, clear data. Then Uninstaller and re-download and install waze. Mine has been rock solid since doing this. Hope it works for you too.

Issues with GPS - Not getting Fix?

This could be a one off device issue, But over the past 2 weeks ive noticed my GPS has become unusable.
Downloaded and Used a 3rd Party App called "GPS Test" to look into it in more detail.
Would appear the GPS would work but very weak and limited results after a few seconds results would dwindle down and show no signals avalible.
Reboot the device then all of a sudden the GPS Test would show results, results would appear for around 20-30 seconds then numbers would start to drop to 0.
Other time i am able to reboot the device, Open up GPS Test and it would get a Fix, I would start driving and it would loose the Fix and Google maps would say searching for GPS.
Other times i have rebooted the device and its located a GPS Fix, opened up Maps and drove home without any issues.
Other times i will drive home and it will work then stop working then start working jumping in between 5 - 10 miles in between it reconnecting.
I have factory rest the device, Made no difference.
Just downloaded the latest Formware files and flashed using Odin so its clean and has nothing installed and still experiancing the same issue.
Device has not been rooted.
Unsure what else i can do, I am starting to think its a hardware issue. (Just dont understand why it would work for a few seconds after reboot before failing)
Raised issue with Samsung and waiting for a Door Stop Repair (Slots are limited so still waiting on mine)
Unsure if anyone else has had GPS Hardware issues.
Also open to suggestions
You are probably correct about hardware issue. Mine has some issues with the compass needing frequent calibration. Not bad enough to bother replacing, but clearly not to spec. It happens.
Sounds like bad hardware or failing internal connection.
Try clearing data/cache... otherwise most likely hardware.
A failed chipset, contacts, trace or solder joint.
This was a common issue on the S4; the GPS antenna contacts would fail over time; poor design.
Not sure how it's implemented on the Note mobo. Either way the phone will need to be opened up... sorry.
