i am pretty new to PocoF3 - i just have ordered it - and now i am still waiting to receive the
shipping.
heard about various types of rom and rooting.
CrDroid Custom-ROM
xiaomi.eu-ROM
[ROM] ONE Os für das Poco F3
alioth/alothin LineageOS 18.1
ArrowOS Custom ROM für das Poco F3
TWRP Recovery
can anybody shed a light on all these.
+is there a good overview - so that i can make up my mind and get some more insights
love to hear from you
regards

Once you receive your device you are going to need to log into a Xiaomi account for a week before you can unlock your bootloader.
Then unlock your bootloader
This process should factory reset the phone (i.e delete all the data).
The next task is to install TWRP. This is known as a custom recovery and allows you to flash ROMs, root your phone by flashing magisk and backup and restore your data.
You are then free to flash ROMs. There are two types: those based off stock android (AOSP) with modifications and those with slight improvements to MIUI. For a newbie I would recommend LineageOS

hello dear Robert
many many thanks. This is much more than expected.
i am overwhelmed.
Thanks for sharing your great expreience and all your insihgts.
this is awesome
have a great day

Hi people,
I am looking for a custom ROM that has the following:
1. Allows you to hide apps from the app list; not just lock the apps. For now I use LineageOS and I use a separate launcher and AppHider
2. Ideally, comes without GApps or G services. I'd love to try GrapheneOS but it comes for Pixel devices only
3. Allows multiple instances of apps eg. Whatsup, etc. I have seen this in a custom ROM but dont remember which one
Any suggestions?
Thanks a l lot
John

good day dear John,

Stock android on ZF2
Hi.
Thank you very much for the super informative post. I am going to buy a ZF2 and I want to check if it is possible to run stock Android in this device. This is more an option for me and not a necessity. I just do not like customizations such as ZenUI, HTC Sense, TouchWiz and so. I have chosen this model for the price vs functionality otherwise I know that I could go for a Nexus model or a Motorola device that run on near stock android.
Thank you again.
P. S. I have never rooted any of my android devices so far. I am not familiar with the process and I always have the fear that I may brick my device.

That's a Work in progress now

Multiple questions

First of all I would like to thank everyone in this forum for their kindness and resourcefulness.
I am sorry for asking questions that have already been discussed and for mixing up issues of different nature.
I am considering of getting a k5 European version a6020a40 s415. It's cheap, reliable and it has a removable battery. I am puzzled by the amount of complexity related to flashing custom ROM s on it.
1. How complex is the process of installing and accessing TWRP? Is it just a matter of enabling the option (unlock bootloader) in the developers options and then flashing it in adb model (after unlocking the bootloader)? I've seen desperate questions about this. Is it feasible?
2. Can I flash ROMs that can be used as daily drivers (I.e. no strange glitches and\or unexpected reboots\FCs)?
A. Is the camera working on them? (Stock or third party)?
B. Is FM radio working on them? (Stock or third party)?
C. Is OTG mode working for external drives and/or external DACs?
1) First installation of TWRP is possible using ADB after some changes in developer options, but in some cases generate bootloop. In my device, i fix the problem after of one day.
2) AOKP ROM can be easily updated and for me no presents any problem.
A) Stock camera is related problems for much users, is needed install third party. My device has Open Camera software.
B) FM radio not work in AOKP and i also desire know any rom what be functional.
C) Yes.

It's not necessary to unlock bootloader to flash twrp if you have root access then you can use a flashing app to flash twrp using root without unlocking bootloader

Lineage downloader can't connect

Dear reader,
since a couple of days my device (samsung S7: SM-G930F) is running low on battery really quick. So I thought; it has been a while since my device asked me to update the new Lineage version. So I gave the app the instruction to look for updates, and it gave me the following notification.
Can't connect to download site. Please retry later.
When actually
You device is supported by the lineageOS team, but there are no versions that support this type of publication: Nightly. (this is translated from Dutch, so actual English sentece might be different).
Switching to Snapshot instead of Nightly in the Settings didn't help.
Then when searching again for updates it gave me the message:
No source file
Request for file: lineage-14.1-20181124-nightly-herolte-signed.zip To reconstruct the last update, the zip of the app should actually be installed. Do you want to select this file manually from storage, or download the last full zip-version?
When I press: download full zip-file it gives the following:
Error during implementation. Try to refresh.
When I click on select file (from storage), and select lineage-14.1-20180927-nightly-herolte-signed.zip, it gives me the message:
You should select the right source file. But I don't have that one on my storage; it's froma different date.
Can anyone help me please?
Kind regards,
Chris

S7 is no longer officially supported by lineageOS. You can search here in XDA for unofficial ROMs.
I have no big hope that a new ROM will really solve your battery issue. Most of the the success stories are a result of a clean ROM installation.

In addition to the outstanding information that @kurtn had provided...
There's no Official LineageOS Updater Apps on the Play Store.
The reason is that they have an implemented LineageOS Updater built into the Firmware and has no need to provide any such app separately from the firmware. That would just be counterproductive to the built in Updater.
The LineageOS Updater App(s) on the Play Store is via a 3rd party developer. I'm not stating that any/all of them are either good or bad but, individuals need to know that their Unofficial and is in no way supported by the Official Lineage Team Maintainers.
Just a few (so to speak) words of advice to keep in mind. I remember asking about them (quite a while ago) and those were the types of words/thoughts by @invisiblek and @haggertk (whose a part the Official Lineage Lead Maintainers).
No lectures here... Just some friendly information for you My Friend!
Good Luck!

Hi Kurt and Ibuprophen, thanks for your answers!
Now I have finally holiday and time to actually fix things it's time to continue this
So current situation;
Phone running out of battery within half a day without frequent using, apps crashing > update definitely required.
Phone model: Samsung S7 SM-930F
LineageOS version: 14.1-20181124-NIGHTLY-herolte (so last update is over a year old)
Android version 7.1.2
Options:
1. Just reset to factory settings? Most easy option, but I think it will have negative influence when I use the phone for another year?
2. I found this unoficcial ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/beta-lineageos-16-0-s7-herolte-t3842465, however, it doesn't include instructions and it is very technical and it speaks of Android 9 as base, which I don't have; just 7.1.2. Would that be a problem?
3. Update to 15.1 instead if that is easier?
So what would be your advice? Please bear in mind that I am a technical noob and can only follow instructions that are extremely clear & correct
Until now I haven't found instructions I felt comfortable with unfortunately.
By the way my laptop has Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2

Oh, looks like ivan does a good job. I think it is a good idea to install his rom.
But be aware: whatever it is, that eats your battery, it can come back.
Edit: be aware: from the threads it looks like 15.1 and 16.0 are not SELinux enforcing. So the gain of security is not as high as one would expect from security patch level. So you can try a factory reset of 14.1 as well.
Do you think there is an easy, technical-illiterates-friendly way to install this version of ivan? I am not that keen to have the highest possible security.
When I am emptying the phone anyway, it seems best to me to have the most recent version (if it doesn't matter that I have android 7.1 and not android 9).

Newbie questions about custom ROMs on A5 2017 (a520f)

Hi, I know most of these questions were answered hundreds of times, but I want to be sure.
1. Which ROM is more stable currently: Lineage OS 17.1 or PixelExprience Plus Edtion 10.0?
2. Does S-View Cover work?
3. Does Widevine DRM L1 work? (Netflix in 1080p)
4. Is this good to install afterward custom kernel (like Project Rise)?
5. Is there any official guide on how to install TWRP+LOS/PixelExperience+Magisk+(Anything really necessary) for dummies?
6. Does IMEI preserve installing custom ROM or need to be restored somehow?
7. What does mean Knox 0x1? Can there be any troubles with any anti-tamper mechanisms?

Hi
Some great questions. Always good to have as much information as possible.
I'll kick things off, and my friends @Simon1511 @SnowFuhrer @Option58 @sheepkill15 and @letsmakecakes will add to this, I'm sure.
1. Any of the ROMs on offer at the moment have their strengths and weaknesses. There is no direct answer here. My advice would be try them all and find your comfort zone. Personally, I enjoyed crDroid as I liked the customisation aspect.
2. I'm not sure how far @corsicanu got with this, so not sure
3. I don't believe the A520 is supported
4. Certain kernels are only compatible with certain ROMs. There will be guidance on the individual kernel threads and/or ROM threads.
5. There are MANY guides on the forums. Best practice would be to read, re-read, read again, ask questions.
6. Unless you screw something up, IMEI will remain intact.
7. Knox 0x1 is a trip. Means that the efuse on the motherboard has burnt. This is a security measure hardwired into this device series (and others!). Which basically renders things like Secure Folder and Samsung Pass useless (if my memory is correct).
I hope that helps to start with. Others will be along to help.
Any questions...just ask

Custom ROM for the Galaxy A70.

Hi,
I love my galaxy A70 with one ui 3.1, but i prefer pixel experience or some other aosp roms. Has someone hard bricked his phone by installing a custom rom? This is my main phone, and once I've tried to install lineage os from some 3rd party site, and i have successfully flashed twrp but when i've installed lineage os it was automatically booting into recovery . Can someone tell me, is custom roming a70 good and easy, and recommend me a rom?
i want:
- good look
- good battery life
- good performance
- android 12 maybe
i was looking at pixel experience 12 thread but it's closed and people had problems with it. i've heard that you cant install android 12 roms on galaxy a70. is that true?
sorry for my bad english
what rom do you recommend (calls must work)
It was quite hard to Hard-Bricked this phone if you followed the instruction.
As this is your main phone, I would suggested you to download a offical firmware (as backup in case something goes wrong) and remember to backup all your data. Also read what DOES work and what DOESNT work.
