Question Do I have no option but to wait for 168 hours (7 days) to unlock my phone's bootloader? - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

Hi all, I just received my brand new POCO F3 phone today and I was hoping to unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM. But when I tried to do that I got this message in the miui unlock software saying that I have to wait for 168 hours (7 days) and try again!

Do I have to wait for that much time or is there a quicker way to do this? And if I do wait and try again will it again complain 7 days later that I need to wait for more time? Please let me know.
And also, do I have to use my phone regularly in that 7 days or if I just leave it turned on is that good enough? Please let me know what to do. And thanks in advance!

No other way... Can only wait
Just leave your phone on, and leave it 1 side. And do not click on add account and device option again else your 168 hours countdown will reset

I see. Okay, I will just wait for 7 days then. It is such a bummer! I wish Xiaomi did not do this so that users can mod their phones right away. But it is just 7 days. So I will learn to be patient!

Is it necessary to unlock bootloader right after 7 days, or I can request to unlock now and actually unlock the bootloader after two or three months after?

Yes u can always unlock any time u like after 7 days. So when i got the phone, i request to unlock right away, and use the phone first. My first unlock is only 1 month later

You can unlock any time, but not sooner than 7 days. If you try sooner the 7 day countdown will start again. better try a day or two later than 5 minutes earlier

basically what I asked is do I need to unlock right after that 7 days of waiting, or I can unlock later whenever I want.
I thought if I don`t unlock the bootloader right after 7 days, xiaomi will reset again countdown.
Anyway, I`ll have to wait for september to unlock the bootloader, since I have already unlocked it for Redmi Note 9s. A bit unnecessary from Xiaomi`s side, but it`s okay, I am waiting for Android 12 custom roms anyway.

The Countdown do not reset if you try sooner. It reset only when you remove and add a Xiaomi account.
When you try sooner, the mi unlock tool says the amount of hours remaining to wait.

Exactly confirmed, as my countdown continued I tried dozens of times (maybe Xiaomi would give me a discount ahahahah) and the count never reset.

Their priority is to convince you to continue to use their MIUI OS, so they can upsell you some of their online services and use your data for statistics and advertising. If you do not use their software, they stop making money off you. It's just in their best interest to make you stay on MIUI. Maybe after that week your start to enjoy MIUI enough not to change it anymore.

They had to do this to counteract people that bought their Chinese phones that didn't have a global release, slapped a bad MIUI custom ROM and resold them in other countries

Yes, making you wait a week is an annoyance (especially from a business point of view) but is only a temporary delay, the Anti Rollback feature is the main tool to block you, or a vendor of Chinese version, to exchange the MIUI version on your device.

nah, the main tool to block the weirdly moded custom roms are the locked edl mode on locked bootloader devices and the delay on unlocking bootloader.
back then (at least in SEA) the weirdly moded miui installed by third party distributors issue was BAD. it was widespread here and the mod were just bad user experience wise. most of them had lots of bugs (even by miui standards lol) and you couldn't update. so they started locking the bootloader and added timers, which did decrease the issue a bit.
but some were still bypassing through edl, which was especially bad and made it harder to fix since the moded rom often faked the bootloader unlock status so you couldn't unlock the device to flash an original rom, often needing you to short pins on the motherboard to bypass it through edl if i remember correctly.
the delay decreased the issue by quite a bit, but they were still bypassing it through edl, so they lock that also, which solves the issue. so i blame the third party distributors for this mess.
the anti rollback is just google tho.
back then you could apply your account to have special auth on the miui forums so you can still flash with edl and unlock the bootloader without having to wait, but i cant find any info on that now?
i know those account exist because my mi account is one of those account.

I am sorry but we are getting further from the original question. "Why we have to wait 7 days or whatever, before we are allowed to unlock and/or root our phones.
You are missing the POINT, that you, the regular user, CAN UNLOCK your phone and change it's factory given software by USING A TOOL MADE BY THE SAME MANUFACTURER OF THE PHONE. MIUI unlock and MiFlash are tools released by Xiaomi oficialy, to allow users, you and me, to mess with the software also put by them, on the device. These tools are not a service only software that leaked on the internet. Xiaomi gives you the option to download these tools and easily replace their software. They discourage such action, but they do not stop you from doing so. Therefore the 7 days of waiting, meanwhile maybe you change your mind.
After you replaced their software with the preferred custom Rom, the AntiRolback future kicks in.That is what blocks you to return to official MIUI software once again. You can return to OFFICIAL STOCK MIUI but it takes more steps and it is a little more time consuming, as is with unlocking. Both processes are meant to be annoying, but in no way they are blocking you out of it, and leaving you without recourse.
If they were completely against you messing with the software then your phone will brick or permanently lose features as a punishment for Unlocking or from even trying to do so. Like in the case of the new Samsung smartphones that disable completely all the cameras if you unlock your bootloader. Some features don't come back even if you restore your phone to the original software. Yes the camera functionality returns but the Samsung security apps no longer work EVER. Or like on iPhone 12 if you don't use original parts to repair it, you lose partial functions or stops working entirely.
A mass seller of xiaomi phones will have access to EDL software or can also have a Chinese based warehouse where they initiate the unlock and by the time the phone reaches Europe or US, they can easily install the software in another warehouse before shipping them to stores/buyers.

Seven days of creating voice profiles (and more).
Other ideas are welcome.

I'm sorry, what part of "You can unlock ANY TIME but only after those 7 day have passed" was not easy to understand. Any time, here, means between 7 days and 1 minute and Xiaomi's bankruptcy i suppose. Thee is no time window, only a minimum waiting time

I bought this phone, with my hard-earned money, from my own pocket. Xiaomi didn't give me this free or as a gift. I don't steal anything from them. I don't owe them money. And yet this **** wasting people's time as if I rented this **** ****ing phone. Sorry my language.

30 day limit on unlocking bootloader

Is there any way to bypass the 30 day wait time for unlocking bootloader again for the same Mi account? Or is there any unofficial bootloader unlock method?
Create another MIUI account, you no longer need to request permission.
But you will still need to wait 360 hours to unlock a new device.
No way around that.

Sorry but as far as I know it is 15 (360h) days of wait to unlock the device, not 30 days.

You can only unlock one new device per month with the same account. That's where he is getting 30 Days.
I ran into this (“Couldn’t unlock. You should wait at least 30 days to unlock another device.”) after already waiting the 360 hours, potentially raising the total time unlock wait period to 1080 hours. Fortunately, I was able to work around the additional 30 day delay by just running an older version (v2.2.264.14) of the Mi Unlock Tool.

Being an enthusiast, now that's one amazing news to start the day with!:good:
didn't work for me...
I had flashed the thing and locked it - I know a dumb mistake
Now I have to wait a week to unlock it...even though I did wait a week last year, when I bought the phone.
"Binding time is too short, less than 166 hours" is the error I get...so that means waiting another week...oh well
Unless someone else has an idea (btw it's a Redmi Note Pro 5)

Hey. To answer your question and others question too. You can unlock new device at start of the month, not 30 days. 5 days ago I unlock BL of Mi 10T Pro, and just now I unlocked Redmi Note 9 Pro

Questions about bootloader unlocking before I make the purchase.

Hello all, I'm interested in purchasing the RN5 Pro, and I've seen a lot of bootloader unlocking related problems. I would like to flash Lineage OS on it. But, how long could this unlock process take? Could they deny me unlocking forever? I apologise for the ad nauseum, because I know that this question has been circling around quite a bit.
Thanks!
as i know, it takes 15 day to grant permission to unlock bootloader (now it's 2months, im not sure)
Then the unlock process just takes about under 15 mins
dont be worry too much about it, it's really simple and ez
I tried to unlock the phone yesterday and the unlock tool showed 720 hours waiting period, which is 30 days, and I retried today and it was still counting (708 hours or so)
I heard some people getting 1440 hours, but don't worry, once you unlock the bootloader everything becomes available, and by the way, you could like MIUI, it has most of the root functions without rooting (Restricting wifi/data from specific apps for example and many many customizations).
I would say get the phone, as soon as you get it apply for the unlock, and try MIUI until you can get to unlock the device.

Thanks for the info! Appreciated. As far as MiUI goes, I don't dislike the look and feel much, but there are advertisements and spammy notifications everywhere, and that to me is unacceptable. On top of that, I'm a privacy conscious guy, so I don't know the kind of background tracking. So I'll most likely switch to Lineage if I get the chance to.
That really depends if your account has authorizations previously. if you have got authorizations previously for any of device. you can unlock any device without any wait. some times device association can take a little time. only if said device was associated with any other account previously

Hey there! The general bootloader unlocking wait time is 30 or even 60 days since the 1. September. It can be shorter, or there is no wait time at all if you have used a Mi account to unlock other devices before. But it depends on their mysteriously mysterious system. From what I read, it can make a difference if a phone number is associated with the account. But I wouldn't count on it for new accounts. Better expect the full and brutal 30 days unlock period.
As you mentioned privacy, it needs to be said that MIUI - the stock ROM of nearly all Xiaomi devices - is quite talkative and sends back data to their servers. They hide it in their terms of services, except that you are prompted to accept these terms of services once you set up your device. If you don't mind it, it should be okay and you can use your device normally until you can unlock the bootloader. After all, Google is also there in form of their Play Services and watch your activity as well. Buuuut, if you truly want to preserve your privacy, it's best not to use the device normally until you get to unlock your bootloader. Personally that is what I did, but rather because I really need and like to have root access on phones I own. In my humble opinion, the increased bootloader unlock time is there to force users to use MIUI. Previously normal times were 3, 7 and 14 days. In conjunction with the ads they want to force onto their users, and the data they collect, this just makes sense if you ask me. Despite this, and to mention positive points again, their phones are still really great value for the money. The Redmi Note 5 has excellent battery life, good mid-range phone performance, takes nice pictures as well and is basically just a pleasant device. Though, if you plan to use LineageOS, you will need to install one of the Mi A2 camera or Google Camera ports if you want to use LineageOS without having to sacrifice camera quality. Actually, with the Google Camera port the pictures of this device get even prettier than they normally look like with the MIUI camera! Might be a matter of taste after all, but I tested it myself and can just confirm what others said about the awesome picture quality.

I have only woken up and my battery drained like crazy. Somehow, 9GAG is the one which drained the most, I don't really care about that, I will uninstall it later if needed. The point here is that the Carrier services, Android system, Google Play services, Google Play store and Cell standby have really high usages! I have just done a factory reset yesterday and things have seem to get only worse. I used to have 500-700 mAh usage for the android system and that used to be about it. Right now, just over night, I have something almost twice as consuming! If I were to continue the day without having the need to recharge right now, everything would have been around 2000-3000 mAh just for the "system/needed apps" in order for the device to run. I do not find this thing normal. Can anyone please help me?
Mobile data drains battery like crazy...
There's factors that can affect the endurance of your phone's battery. These factors may be caused by a malfunction in your phone, or there's simply a global issue that may be affecting the devices in your area.
LTE does use more battery than Wi-Fi, yes. But not that lot, if everything was stable. But, you know, mobile networks are not stable, and sometimes it can struggle with the signal.
If yesterday, your phone used to last the whole day just fine, and the problem suddenly appeared, it may suggest there's an event affecting it.
Try using your phone on Wi-Fi for an hour, and compare the consumption with LTE for the same length. I suggest turning on aeroplane mode when testing the Wi-Fi.
Carrier Services should not be using that large amount of battery. The main purpose of this app is to help carriers communicate with your phone. To enable their exclusive features and so on.
I can't think of 9GAG more than Reddit, social media apps usually don't drain that much battery (TikTok is an exception). Maybe you'll wake up the next day with your phone resurrected.

I don't know what you mean in the last part with the resurrection but yeah, I should try doing a test and see if android system and the others calm down if I'm only on Wi-Fi. Also it's been here for a few days already and it's annoying as hell. I have a friend with the same model and he's kinda got the same problem but not that big. He only got like half of what I have. He does have a bug where the gallery app uses 800-1000 mAh if it won't force close it, but that's another thing since I do not face any issues like that.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say but if are trying to tell me that it's because of the 12.5 update, well it kinda isn't. My battery halved when I installed MIUI 12. I have debloated my phone and now the results are as following: *also 1:48 hours with 22% battery drain which is kinda impressive because if things go like this it low-key means that I can totally go for approximately 8 hours now. My phone was debloated before too but it didn't do much. Right now, I've mostly been on Wi-Fi because in the area I had to go, there isn't really any 4G/signal. It's either thanks to not using mobile data, which I did use for like 1/4 of the usage time until now, either to debloating it.*

MIUI 12.5.x for our device came with many problems. Battery drain being one of them.
I'm assuming that you're using Stock MIUI 12.5.x. If that's your case, you have to wait for an update that fixes the battery drain.

I already have the phone for a year and a half but thanks . Also.. are we sure that we are going to get a fix in the next update relating to this battery drain issue?.. Or is it something that we EXPECT to happen?... Also yes, I'm using the stock debloated version! I could rollback to an older version but will that actually fix something? I still had the issue even on MIUI 12, not 12.5. MIUI 11 was the only one which had no problems .
Ah yes, the android system has kicked in again with a spectacular 245 mAh used! Will update in a few hours.
EDIT: In AccuBattery it's only showing as this: *look at the attached photo*. Are the MIUI battery stats wrong? Does AccuBattery not record the actual Android System usage? Does it put it in another category, like for example the app I was using at that time?

Users: We expect the bugs to be fixed with future updates.
Xiaomi: We expect not to fix bugs especially if they can push the sales of other phones.
Jokes aside, keep your fingers crossed that this battery drain issue is fixed by Xiaomi soon. Especially because our device will be EOL November/2021.
As for MIUI 12.0.x also having a battery drain problem I don't know. I started having this issue with PE+ when it started using MIUI 12.5.x as its base.

Also, since you seem pretty knowledgeable about custom ROMs, if you don't mind me asking, is using a custom ROM still safe? Like for inputting banking info etc etc.? And if it is, what are the downsides? And is there a way to break my phone like for real/forever? And what ROM would you recommend? Also, do you know if unlocking the bootloader voids my warranty? *It's not like I got much more of it left* And by the way, what's your address experience on using a custom ROM? How's the battery life? Anddddd sorry for the all questions, its fine if you don't wanna take the time to answer xD.

Is using a Custom ROM safe (for banking, PayPal etc)? I cannot give a proper answer for this. Custom ROMs are usually a mix of open source code (from the Custom ROM developer(s)) and binary blobs from the manufacturer (I might be missing something here). You could build a Custom ROM from the source code and add the binary blobs yourself to be sure, but that's quite a lot of work. I chose PE+ for now which has a decent user base. I do use banking applications with it (even with root). Now let's suppose you work for the CIA or the NSA. I wouldn't recommend a Custom ROM for you, and certainly would have reservations for stock MIUI too. It depends on your mileage;
Downsides? I'll talk specifically about the RN8Pro. In the past it was easier to hard brick the device, which meant that you needed to contact an authorized service center to fix it (or go online but I won't detail it here). So depending on the mistake you do when you flash a Custom ROM yes, you can hard brick it (read #3 to unbrick). Another thing that's possible to damage is the IMEI. It's always advisable to make nandroid backups of the relevant IMEI partitions in case you ever need them (restoring the IMEI partitions should only be done if absolutely needed and might still fail for whatever reason);
Breaking your phone. There is now an unbrick method that fixes a hard brick without the need for a service center. You can do it yourself too.
;
Recommended Custom ROM. My suggestion is that you stay as close to Stock ROM as possible, so try
. This modded Stock MIUI 12.5.x should have an update soon;
Warranty for a unlocked bootloader. Yes, you'll void your warranty but you can also re-lock your bootloader if necessary. Unlocking your bootloader will format your data (you'll lose apps + data in the process). I don't know if re-locking does the same, but I guess it does;
My experience on using a Custom ROM. I've only used PE+ as my daily driver. For the good and the bad (there's probably other stuff I didn't mention) read https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...xperience-official-aosp.4196041/post-85697555. That's my resumed review of the latest release at that time;
Time. I don't mind taking my time to answer your questions (and being corrected too).
If you do decide to try a Custom ROM there are a bunch of channels in Telegram. Most developers have migrated to there and don't usually reply to queries here at XDA. There's a lot more Custom ROMs available on TeleGram than here. You'll have to search for those.

Thanks a lot man, I wonder if re-locking the bootloader will "regain" my warranty like if I re-lock it and send it to service, will they say something? Also I have heard that you are going to brick your phone if you re-lock the bootloader while you have a custom ROM or something like that, which I don't know anything about. So that may be fake. Thanks once again for all the explanations!! By the way, do you know what the average Android System usage should be? Or for example, what's your daily usage?

Re-locking your bootloader is the same as buying it new and locked. Xiaomi phones don't act like Samsung's Knox, which goes to 0x1 once the bootloader is unlocked and cannot be set back to 0x0.
To re-lock your bootloader you basically flash a Stock MIUI and enable the re-lock option (when using SP Flash Tool if I'm not mistaken). I've never heard of re-locking a bootloader with a Custom ROM installed (I don't think it's possible).
I'll attach screenshots with my Android System usage, but since I've just charged and turned on my phone I don't think it'll help you.
I don't know what the average usage for the Android System should be. It should vary with the phone's use.

Yeah.... Besides that you just charged it, I cannot see the mAh used by it but it seems pretty high but mime's almost double the %. I wonder if the Kernel (Android OS) gets into the Android System tab for me, unlike for you. Also, do you know if AccuBattery is accurate? Because if it is, then the Android System isn't using almost anything. I did also have 4 hours of SoT with 50% so the battery life is about as good as it can be, I think? By the way, I have heard that disabling MIUI optimizations could help. Do you know anything about that?. Thanks a lot in advance, once again!

General [Rant] Bailing on this piece of crap Phone

My phone is useless after the 12.0 update. No cell service, tried several different "solutions" that are floating around. Add to that all the previous issues, like battery issues, throttling the phones performance and this new Color based os, I'm Done. Ordered a new Pixel 6 Pro and traded in the OP9P. Oneplus will never see another penny of my money.

I have 7 days left to try this phone on T-mobile. Why is this crap on T-mobile? I noticed battery life isn't that great (Not even using games nor youTube). Sometimes my touchscreen goes unresponsive. Sometimes while using the browser it goes into zoomout while scrolling. 5G Network is quite not there yet. Some apps like Doordash, geico take 40 seconds to load to what I think is server issues. Once on WIFI they load normally.

I will say that my opinion based on your specific experience, not (mine works just fine) comments. Is that you should replace it since you have your test period still valid. Don't get stuck with a ****ty phone you obviously don't like and choose another..
Certainly do not root it, it is not going yo magically fix issues.

I don't think anyone expected the fusion with ColorOS to go smoothly anyway. Let's face it: there's far more efficient development on communities like this one than in these billion dollar companies. There's just too much politics and whatnot involved. That's why I can't stress the importance of open source enough. If it's any consolation to anyone: a factory reset does seem to help (a little?). I know that shouldn't be a requirement but doing so on every major OS upgrade is generally a good idea. Besides, OP has done worse in the past and they've been here before just one version ago (and the one before that, IIRC)
Please try to keep it constructive, everyone. We understand your pain, more than anyone.

Question Unlock/Root questions

What's up guys? It's been quite a while since I've been on here. I've switched back to Android from iOS. Picked up a Oneplus 9 Pro today. Trying to figure out what in the **** is going on in Android now. Seems things have changed drastically since I was last here (Oneplus One)! I feel like I'm in /r/jailbreak! I have a T-Mobile Oneplus 9, so I guess I have to submit to Oneplus to be able to unlock the bootloader??? I've done it, but do I really have to wait one to 2 weeks for them to reply before I can root!? Is this how Android has become now?

Welcome back.
I'll just address the bootloader thing.
Normally, you can unlock instantly the bootloader, no need to wait for anything or request for anything. But in your case, T-Mobile, well, provider locked, so you need to request an unlock from them AFAIK.
