Question Changing default file manager app - Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 4G

Is there a way to change the default file manager app without rooting or using custom rom? Xiaomi file manager has so many ads and i want to change it to google files.

i think you can remove - some of the - the ads by going to settings and disabling the "show recommandations" - chinese for show ads
there's a lot of those toggles in miui, also in the security, browser, search in the miui forum there was a guide on where to find them all.
or easier, just go for a custom rom

im not to sure you need to set it default, just install the google version from google play and open that insted of the xiaomi version.
youcant really remove it since it's ibstalled as a system app.

[Q] Adding app to a custom fw

hi i am making a new custom fw for my Arabian friends so i want to add an app to it
so is there any way to do it??
i thought at first that i just need to add the app file inside the Shpapp file but that wasn't right and didn't work
Any ideas would be useful
Thanks in advance
You just have to copy the apps folder to the SHPApp>Osp>Applications with the other applications. I was able to add Picsel Smart Offce and MyExplorer this way. And it worked like a charm. You can get the apps from sites where they upload apps for spoofing. I recommend: http://badawaveapps.blogspot.com/
Note: Sometimes the files that you download from such sites might already be spoofed. That is they have copied the contents of the apps into a container app and renamed the files accordingly. So the folder name will be different from what the actual folder name would be for that app. So if you want to still install these apps, you will have to edit the <ID></ID> part in the manifest.xml file in the Info folder of the app according to the folder name.
Hope it works for you.

You can add sygic/ndrive but not delete the native navigation app since Route66 is encrypted in the apps_compressed.bin file. Native apps which you can delete are: Daily Briefing, Twitter, Facebook, Samsung Apps, Samsung Apps Update and Social Hub Premium Instant Messenger,
Whatever changes you want to make in ShpApp file, do that and then recompile it and flash it with a firmware. Done
are you sure astrotom?
i tried it before and ended up with non working samsung apps and nothing added
i'll try and report
and yes my intentions is to add sygic and ndrive and i have the original files already

You will end up with a non working Samsung Apps only if you replace a particular firmwares's ShpApp with other firmwares's modified ShpApp.
very bad idea to get an app like sygic with all its maps inside the file
trix and Wave remaker couldn't do it
trix couldn't add a sound file from sygic
Wave remaker couldn't add a folder inside the file
maybe i'll use small apps like you said astrotom like My explorer and picsel smart office
manged to do it
i didn't believe myself when i saw sygic as original app in my customized firmware
thanks astrotom you advice was so helpful
sorry but ...if I can add a new app (free or not like sygic, myexplorer, picsel...) and having it regulary installed and functional in main menu without spoofing like preinstalled asphalt 5 then..if those new apps will receive an updated version and I do the update through samsung apps when I'm logged then those apps will appear in the purchase history as if I had bought them (like ashalt), is it possible?
Does samsungapps recognize the installation of the added app as it does for asphalt?
don't have paid apps in my country to comfirm this
the version of sugic that i put in the fw is the free promotion version so i don't think it will get updates
and no it didn't appear at the purchase history
you should try it your self or ask astrotom as he tried different apps
for me sygic is just enough as i added alot of maps and the Shpapp file reached 590 mb
well based on my experience with asphalt 5 you can update it but it does not appear in purchase history. hence if you accidently delete it you cant download it again
Unfortunately, you can't update apps. Samsung apps will still recognize those apps and if you have not updated to the latest samsung apps, you can even launch them from within samsung apps. But like asphalt 5, pre-installed apps are not allowed to update. Apps can be updated only if you have installed them from kies and if they belong to your country's app store.

mmm...I've pre-installed asphalt 5, never bought it, but I've updated it two times through Samsungapps application on wave (not using kies) and if you login before doing the update, asphalt will appear in your download history
(update is notified on the top of the downloaded/installed application list)
yes even i have updated asphalt through my phone

Have you tried changing app version to a lower number in Appinfo.sys and manifest.xml before flashing (in Info application folder)? If this works perhaps it's possible to load a firmware with only some configuration files for many apps (no need of full apps folder with lots of mb...), then:
-set microsd as installations target;
-run samsungapps application on wave, login and download all the 'update' (actually you'll download the entire apps );
-if this works, you'll have all your favorite apps in your purchase history, working normally on your wave and with any firmware...

hi this is so intersing job
how can i edit shpapp infact how can i add app to shpapp ?
hi every one again
wanted to report bad news back
you can add just two apps
if you added more than two apps you will get unexpected behavior like disappearance of the native apps like samsung apps, facebook, twitter, mini diary......etc
or ending up with broken samsung apps and nothing added
hope we find a way through this

[Q] PA without gapps possible?

I am planning to flash PA to my old Nexus 7 (Tilapia) without gapps. The idea is to find out whether an Android device can be decoupled from Google. And whether such a device can still be used in a normal day to day scenario for surfing, mail, contacts ...
There are many apps out there which could be used instead of the apps in the gapps package (i.e. play store => f-droid, mail => k-9, chrome => firefox, maps => navit / OsmAnd, ...). And with a simple raspberry pi and owncloud also some of the google services can be replaced by an self hosted solution.
What are your thoughts on this:
- Is this possible in principle with PA?
- What should I watch out for when setting up the N7?
- Any other suggestions?
Of course you can do it. The ROM is functional without gapps
Sent from my Nexus 5
I don't know what it is you should be watching out for when trying your experiment but I believe it can be done. You'll have to use a 3rd party app store to download the apps you want to replace the stock apps with (k-9, etc). But once you start doing that, what's the point?
To prove you don't need to use Google Branded apps? Just root your device, install Titanium and freeze all the google apps. Same thing, right?
Just flashed PA without gapps. Added some great Apps from f-droid. Everything works great. Next steps will be to Conect to a dropbox server.
Currently I am getting a notification that a new system update, a new gapps version is available. Can I somehow disable in PA the check for new gapp versions?
Thanks!

Thanks Pirateghost, just found it.
I am currently running into two issues:
I installed the "920 text editor" via f-droid. But when I try to start it the app it opens for a nearly a second and then a error window says >"920 Text Editor" wurde beendet.< (I am using a German system; translation something like >"920 Text Editor" was stopped.<). Is there a log file which could provide more information why this application was not able to start?
I paired my German bluetooth keyboard (QWERTZ layout) with the nexus. But unlike to stock Android in PA they keyboard is mapped with the American layout (QWERTY layout). So some keys are not inline with the labelling. I did not find a way to change the used layout in the settings. Any ideas?

Add permission manager and startup manager to phone manager

EMUI in China includes both permission and startup controls in the phone manager app. But due to google policy, it is removed from the European version.
However you can search playstore for an app called PM plus https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.huawei.pmplus&hl=en
This will add both of this features to the phone manager so you can control which apps can access which permissions.
Work fine on my Honor 7 EU
Permission Manager
I have an odd problem. When I go to the Google page of PM Plus, I get a message that the application is incompatible with my device. I have a Huawei Honor 7 (PLK-UL00), with current version being PLK-UL00675B160. And yet the google play store says that my phone is incompatible with this
Can you please help or if possible, send me the APK.
[Edit] - I got the Apk from a post on XDA and could install it on my phone, but still quite baffled by the native lack of support for my phone from Play store for this app

Hi,
I could not install it from Play Store, it simply does not appear in the list after searching for it.
Could someone share the app with me by posting here in the forum, please?
(I have Huawei G8 RIO-L01 -- European, dual-sim version of G8)
UPDATE: I could download the app from an alternative site. Works fine.
Anyone has a newer version. On marshmallow the permission manager no longer works.auto launch control does though

MIUI 10 - swipe up - enable Google-search instead of MIUI-search?

Since every aosp Rom (last was Pixel Experience) gets laggy after some time, I decided to go to miui again, since I never had lag problems with miui.
My GF's RN4 was faster than my RN5 running PE 9.0 so I said it's time for a change.
On miui I only hated the notification lag (or no notification at all) and the, for example reply in statusbar not working like in aosp.
So, since they changed it in miui 10.3 (maybe even before?), I was quite happy with almost everything.
What I am missing is the "swipe up" to Google search, or swipe right from home screen to Google search.
I managed to deactivate the App-Vault (swipe right from home) but I dont know, how to set Google search instead of that miui search at "swipe up from home screen".
Is there a chance to do it?
Or set Google search to "swipe right from home screen"?
I haven't found an option to change the swipe gestures.
I still miss some other stuff from aosp Roms, since they are all "Google based" but miui is miui and I guess you can't have everything.
I'm on Xiaomi.eu 10.3 MIUI, Magisk installed.
Thanks!
EDIT:
With Google search I meant the Google assistant / Google Now too. I mean, it's standard feature with aosp Roms so I guess you know what I mean.. The Google search with some news underneath the search bar.
Goggle feed is impossible to put in miui launcher

Aargh, too bad.
And is there a chance to disable that search or set anything else at that place?
That "feature" is just not necessary for me.
Actually you can enable swipe up to google search back. You just need to clear default of the mi browser in setting > installed apps > browser > clear default. You may notice that the browser doesn't have any default. Just tap on it and the swipe up gesture will open google search again.
How i notice this? Cause everytime there is mi browser update. The swipe up gesture revert back to that xiaomi browser.

Sadly not working for me.. Maybe you don't use the same version?
Also, another question.
If I flash global beta, am I going to get Google search?
If so, what are the benefits (if any) of global beta Rom if you compare it to Xiaomi.eu?
I think, Xiaomi.eu Roms are bit more optimized and debloated or?

Global beta is more stable than the stable channel (which i use currently - build 10.0.6). While there isn't any big difference between xiaomi.eu and global beta since they use the same build except for ads (which can be disable by unistalling msa apps with adb debloater). And yes, you get all google apps in global beta
Btw, can you clear default for google apps and google chrome to see if it working?

Nope, still not working.
Well I guess I have to live with it. It's not that big problem, since I can start the Google feed with the widget.
It would be good though, if you could disable the miui-search but if you have no idea how to do it, then it's alright..
thanks though!
Hey, I had the same problem and solved it! (sorry for digging up an 8 months old thread)
Get xiaomi debloater and uninstall Browser and Search (com.android.search), and voilá. At least it did work for me, on Mi 9, Xiaomi.EU rom.

actually You can enable swipe up google search if you r a root user..
you have to follow some step
step 1: reinstall the rom
step 2: root
step 3: immediately install lucky patcher
step 4: uninstall the system app browser
done!!
google swip up gesture will enable for forever until you reflash the rom.
if you follow step 3 and 4 now without reflash rom the swipe up gesture will show app not installed..
I done this before I am using swipe up google...
