Is flashing a custom ROM worth anymore? - Xiaomi Mi 10T / 10T Pro Questions & Answers

I would really like to try xiaomi.eu on mi 10T, but it needs open boot loader, which can be detected, and then all app's don't work.
Yes I know you can use magisk and have an eternal battle with safety net while some apps still refuse to work (Mcdonalds is a good example).

I have an mtk phone which i upgraded to android 10(q) when I flashed pixel 10 gsi my bootloader was set to locked, so you just need to find the line for it in a build.prop (search the internet) and add it in a module or something
that way system thinks bootloader is locked even if its not

You won't be able to get around the CTS false flag now without completely removing Magisk. The requirements have changed recently.

Use the uninstall feature in the Magisk manager app and reboot. If it still fails the safety net pass, I think you need to lock your bootloader which is dicey. Might want to wait for someone else to confirm the steps as it's unique to your ROM version and may cause a hard brick, but typically flashing an unmodified MiFlash tool ROM and then locking the bootloader after should do it.

You can get around it by using the "MagiskHide Props Config" module and using it to change your devices fingerprint. At least on Android 10(Pixel Experience, CFW, Used Pixel 4 XL fingerprint)

Same here, that's why I thought locking was the only way. There was a thread about this somewhere, didn't think magisk hide worked anymore.
I'll try what @Sapphiress mentioned, thanks!
Edit: no dice, didn't work with the GSI option for finger print. Any suggestions on which fingerprint to use for Android 10 GSI Quack?

My bootloader is unlocked and I read elsewhere that that can cause the CTS flag to fail. I tried simulating a K20 fingerprint and all it did was disable my sim, lol.

Must only work on CFW then.
My bootloader is also unlocked.
My exact load out is:
CFW Pixel experience
CFW TWRP
CFW Zentisu kernel
I used the emulate device option in the props script and set it to Pixel 4 XL.
I can confirm that Netflix and Google Play works. At least on global with My setup.

Yes, I have a Redmi Note 8 Pro(Global)
Android 10 CFW (Pixel Experience)
CTS Profile and basicSec are True, I've already stated that GooglePay and Netflix both work.
No, I haven't, as I don't see a reason too. If it's to hide it from other people then this can be accomplished with a 3rd party launcher, otherwise I don't see the point.
All of these questions have been answered in my previous posts aside from renaming magisk.
Everything you need to know about CFW and flashing custom ROMS is available in the Redmi Note 8 Pro megatread I advise reading it in its entirety and reading the entire comment chain(i know it's a lot buts it's important) before attempting anything, and everything else I'm using is in the Development ROMS, KERNELS, Etc. Section.
I can't really comment links right now as I'm in using the labs app.

Not able to add a visa card to Google Pay when unlocked

Hi there,
I'm in contact with google support to add a visa card to Google Pay. After several issues finally sorted, I have now a message saying I can not add a card because my phone is altered.
Is the fact that my phone is unlocked won't allow me to use Google Pay / NFC feature?
Thx guys
I managed to make work my banking app and Google Pay with these steps:
1. Enable Magisk hide + enable hide for Google Pay and Google Play services
2. Repackage Magisk Manager app (you will need to enable installation of apps from USB source in system developer settings)
3. Force basic Safetynet test by installing MagiskHide Props Config and selecting Mi 10T pro as a phone model (as a bonus, AR will work too)
Reboot phone and it should work now.
Hummm... after some research, it looks like this method won't work for a long time. Can I unlock my device for the time being? It's unclear how I can do it...

Maybe it will, maybe it won't.. There is a secondary method involving modification of Google Pay sql database which might work for a longer time.
Anyway, to unroot your phone and to pass safetynet you'll need to reflash whole ROM and lock the bootloader (make sure that phone is working before locking).
My Google Pay NFC visa was working after passing safetynet on magisk but stopped working today. Tried to unroot but still got the same error.
I didn't update the app at all so I'm guessing on the server side they did some changes to detect for root / custom rom /unlocked bootloader or something.
Now I'm gonna re-root since removing it didn't helped. Lol
Is a factory reset will do?

Safetynet will fail with unlocked bootloader, you need either unlocked bootloader + Magisk hide + basic Safetynet test (can be forced with using for example Mi 10T pro as a phone model), or completely stock rom with locked bootloader. Mine Google pay seems to be still working (at least app doesn't complain about anything ).

Long story short. After bricking my device (XiaoMiTool V2 hit it hard), I managed to get it back and flash a Fastboot ROM (through XiaoMiFlash).
And Google Pay still say I can not add a Visa Card because my Device is rooted or is altered in a way. I downloaded a root checker and it says I'm not rooted... WTF???

"Clean all and lock"
Yes, flash all and lock is the right script. But it's a good point to lock your bootloader only after you are sure that your phone works.
When you are sure that you are with a fresh stock ROM, reboot to fastboot mode and issue command:
" fastboot flashing lock"
Beware, it will erase your data and if you by any chance have modified boot or system partition, you will brick your phone and it must be revived by EDL mode.

I tried the command but the device says it was not a "known command" so I flashed it again with the right script (I had to remove the antirollback section tho)
I'm restoring at the moment. Will tell you if I can add my VISA soon
So it works but Google Pay is saying that my Bank does not support this feature (Welcome to Canada!)
All of this for... NOTHING °*&(?$?&)
Ah ah ah... At least, I know how to properly flash my device. Thx a lot _mysiak_

Question I'm very overwhelmed please help

The last time I rooted a phone was 3 years ago, in general whenever I try to root a phone I feel like the entire process has changed and im completely out of the loop.
All i want to do is make it so i can install f.lux and youtube vanced, how do I do this?
I know that I need to install magisk but apparently I also need to enable the bootloader whatever that means?
Sideload, flashing, caprip, boot-image, fastboot, TWRP: these words mean nothing to me, they serve to confuse and demean me.
Is there any resource for figuring out how to go from a new out-of-the-box moto g30 to one which lets me install youtube vanced? Usually I'd look up a tutorial but the only one I found was in spanish and I don't speak spanish.
Thanks for any help you can give.
First things first.
Android has Night Light built in and Youtube Vanced doesn't need root.
But, if you're still serious about rooting and installing magisk to make use of all of the really useful modules, you'll need:
An Unlocked Bootloader: Motorola's Own Guide
Keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your phone and void its warranty, so be absolutely sure you want to do it and back up your files.
Then you'll need to manually patch a boot.img from your stock ROM (can be found here.) and flash it using ADB (Android Debug Bridge) using your PC.
I rooted mine within 3 days of owning it and have been enjoying it with no problems whatsoever ever since.
I used this guide as reference. If you have any questions you can always just message me here or on Telegram (@Kuntitled).

Unlocking the bootloader
You can flash a custom system only if the bootloader allows it. Note, though, that the bootloader is locked by default. You can unlock the bootloader, but doing so deletes user data for privacy reasons. After unlocking, all data on the device is erased, that is, both private app data and shared data accessible over USB (including photos and movies). Before attempting to unlock the bootloader, back up any important files on the device. - https://source.android.com/setup/build/running

The boot.img is the fie that creates the boot partition
/bootThis is the boot partition of your Android device, as the name suggests. It includes the android kernel and the ramdisk. The device will not boot without this partition. Wiping this partition from recovery should only be done if absolutely required and once done, the device must NOT be rebooted before installing a new one, which can be done by installing a ROM that includes a /boot partition.

Question Help me understand GIS for Xperia 10 III

I think I understand the idea behind the device-specific Treble system, and the device-agnostic GIS images, which can work on any phone that has Treble. The app "Treble Check" says that the Sony Xperia 10 III is fully supported.
Here's my questions / educated guesses, please tell me if they're wrong or right:
1. This phone already comes with a Treble-compliant hardware layer (kernel+drivers) and GSI-compliant user-facing ROM, directly from Sony.
2. I can install any other GSI ROM (or from XDA) as long as it's an A/B arm64 ROM, and the hardware should work perfectly.
3. Can the phone still get OTA vendor updates for the hardware stuff after I unlock bootloader/install 3rd party GIS, or do I have to get the new images and flash them manually? Or do I get cut off from them altogether?
4. The original bootloader can take commands from the standard fastboot util in the Android SDK Platform Tools.
5. I understand I need to unlock the bootloader in order to be able to flash anything, but why is it necessary to overwrite the vbmeta partition?
6. Is the procedure to get Magisk working still patching the bootloader, regardless what GSI ROM I install?
7. Did anybody pass Safety Net with Magisk and a 3rd-party GIS ROM? Can it be passed anymore after unlocking bootloader?
8. I see there's no TWRP recovery for this device. Does it matter? Are there alternatives? In theory, if I have Magisk->root I can do pretty much anything so it doesn't sound like a big deal.

In theory. In practice it still depends on how the GSI ROM was implemented, there can still be issues.

Not totally sure about this one. I think you don't get to install OTA updates anymore. You can probably download a new firmware with XperiFirm and flash pieces of it but no idea how that would work or what would happen.

Yes. Sony did a great job going for standard things.

The original vbmeta partition contains a mechanism that checks for the other partitions to not be modified. The image downloaded from Google disables that mechanism, so you can put whatever you want on any partition.
wirespot said:
6. Is the procedure to get Magisk working still patching the bootloader, regardless what GSI ROM I install?

Yes, it's for the best. A large amount of what Magisk does is based on it being "hidden" from the regular system. Not just for hiding from SafetyNet, since you may not care about that with a 3rd party GSI ROM, but because keeping system modifications separate and keeping the original ROM is a very, very good practice.
wirespot said:

You can pass SafetyNet on the stock ROM, with unlocked bootloader and boot image patched to load Magisk. See my how to guide. I don't know about 3rd party GIS ROMs.

I've looked into this some more. The biggest downsides seem to be inability to restore backups of the userdata, and inability to disable problematic Magisk modules. There are modules such as Magisk Bootloop Protector which will disable all modules if it detects a bootloop, but if the problem is not a bootloop and still prevents your access you're out of luck...
Please feel free to add more info.

Question A possible solution for OOS Stock Cam to work on Custom A12 roms

Guys, I have experienced and heard a lot from others that they come back to stock rom after enjoying the custom ROM for a week or two
just because they missed the OOS Stock cam application performance and features. And we all know, there isnt a custom ROM in which
OOS Cam works flawlessly. I might have a possible solution for this. To be frank, I havent tried this solution yet and I m no expert on
developing ROMS. This is just an idea. Therefore, to confirm this, I m putting forward my idea to the community.
Normally, GCAM works fine for me in Custom ROMS for taking few PICS here n there. But the problem arises when I goto a Vacation trip
or attend a party/function where Camera is an essential requirement. And GCAM just cant beat the shear video and photo performance
of stock OOS CAM. So, my solution might help guys in similar situations.
The possible solution maybe:-
1) Install an awesome Custom ROM of choice primarily on device.
2) Select DSU loader from the developer options
3) Choose the suitable Stock DSU Image. This will install the Stock ROM without affecting the primary custom ROM.
Just go thru normal step process and leave it at that. Remember we only need Stock OOS camera app from this ROM.
Therefore, during normal usage days. just use the CUstom ROM which doesnt require clicking videos or many photos.
However, during trips/vacations/functions, just quickly restart your device to switch to the DSU Image.
and voila, USE THE STOCK OOS CAM as usual and save all photos/videos.
Please let me know if this idea will work theoretically and practically?
I was actually wondering if dual boot was possible. I had no idea about DSU Loader before.
Is it possible to install OOS into the DSU Loader though? I did some quick research and it's meant for GSIs.
Would be cool if we had a tool like this that allowed OOS to be the secondary so we have a fully working custom ROM and OOS when needed.
I have tried dsu loader and it sent me to the your devuce is corrupt red screen.had to start from scratch.also the dsu loader will relock your bootloader.

lol, what? DSU doesn't lock your bootloader. Actually, in order to use DSU, your bootloader needs to be unlocked.
Please, double-check before spreading false information.

I have seen that a custom DSU loader is also present which can easily install custom ROMS.
If we make OOS primary and custom ROM secondary and use that secondary ROM as primary. Wont that work?
i assume secondary DSU Custom ROMS dont have limited functionality.

I was reading that calls don't work on the secondary ROM but maybe that was in that specific instance. I didn't spend a lot of time on reading.
The custom loader I saw seemed to only be for GSIs too which is why I asked if it can be used for regular ROMs.
Hmm.. nice point. Lets see if an expert can reply here

which option did u choose? Did u choose the right GSI DSU file. How much I know there are 4 to 5 options.
That could have been the issue choosing the wrong one.i didnt think they would give you the option to install one if it didnt work but that very well could have been the issue.i believe i chose the last option.

You do know that that screen is always present when you have an unlocked bootloader, right? Lol

Yes its not the yellow screen when you boot.it was a red screen that says your device is corrupt and cannot boot please visit the link from another device.
@gillim74 that's literally the screen I have every time I boot or restart my phone and it still successfully boots.
@sunny1689gupta could you PM if you don't mind? Either on here or telegram. Same username.

If you have a fully working slot with no issues, flash this via adb sideload or twrp. Just letting you know that the screen you're referring to is a known issue when having an unlocked bootloader when using OOS11 as a base. I DID NOT have this screen when running A12 Open Betas, even with an unlocked bootloader.

"It did mine, therefore it must be a fact that it's how it works". NO. Again, the DSU loader needs an unlocked bootloader. What happened or what it didn't happen to your device is irrelevant. It's a FACT that your DSU doesn't LOCK your bootloader because it would self-corrupt itself by doing that since the DSU needs an unlocked Bootloader.
Imagine developers making DSU that requires an unlocked bootloader, but in the process of flashing a GSI (Generic System Image), it will lock the bootloader by itself and brick itself. That absolutely makes no sense, and neither it is coded to work like that.
