Question Brief explaination required, BL Unlock, TWRP & ROOT - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

Hello all, Hope you are having great time.
I have just bought Poco F3 (Global variant), and have tried unlocking bootloader, and currently awaiting 168 hours. i have few queries if you brief me since this is my 1st Xiaomi device, coming from simple & easier Oneplus 5,
1) If i change to another pc to unlock bootloader after 168 hours, or if my old pc died, will the counter restart in case of changed PC?
2) I have problem and confusion in getting current stable TWRP since the forum is mixing things up for me probably because of my lack of knowledge, so basically, i want TWRP for my MIUI v12.5.2 Global, through which, i can flash ROMs or mods for my likings, so if you guys link to current stable TWRP, it would be really great.
3) I also read that if we flash Magisk, TWRP's removed, and if we flash TWRP, Magisk will be removed, so the above current twrp version has fixed this? initially, i just want to flash magisk to root official pre-installed miui os, after sometime, i will go to custom ROMs.
4) Last question, how can we flash stock miui ROM, are we only able to flash stock miui through fastboot or now also possible via TWRP?.
I Would appreciate if you clear the above query, i have searched a lot, but things gets confusing for me, and can't make it clear which twrp, or method to flash will work. so having to ask you. Hope you will understand.

1. As long as you login with the same account and not before the 168 hours passed, you are ok to continue the process. The countdown is linked to your mi.com account not to your PC.
2. TWRP 3.5x is ok. It doesn't really matter what MIUI version you use, you can install some custom ROMs but SOME custom roms require different Custom Recoveries and ADB on windows (havoc, Arrow... have their own process.) Read recommended procedure carefully for each ROM because they differ.
3. That happens to idiots that DO NOT READ ISTRUCTIONS all the way. Some ROMs require installing TWRP twice. Once to boot (temporary) and again later in a permanent manner using a different method. Each ROM has step by step procedure so problems can be avoided. After you permanently install TWRP you can install magisk (usually using boot image). If you are not careful you install TWRP, install new ROM and find out you reverted to last recovery or only have fastboot and you have to start all over.
4. DO NOT FLASH MIUI USING TWRP. EVER!!! IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE PERMANENTLY and you will need EDL Authorized Service.
Only use OFFICIAL MIUI FLASH TOOL to return to Original MIUI OS (RECOVERY OR FASTBOOT VERSION). All 2021 Xiaomi phones have a antirollback protection to prevent you to return to Original software. Only some versions of MIUI can be installed on some versions of thehe smartphones. Ex. My Poco F3 (eu) accepts reinstalling only MIUI 12.0.4 and update afterwards to 12.5.3.
Oficial Mi Flash TOOL prevents you to install the wrong software and to brick your phone
TWRP doesn't care about this Rollback Protection, forces MIUI installation regardless and bricks your phone permanently. Only official service can bring it back to life afterwards for 30 to 100 usd

Ohh I see, the last answer has opened my eyes, this is why it is always better to ask some loyal people if something's new, so the EU ROM in their forum should also be flashed only via mi tool? Regardless of the instructions in that forum where they say in instructions that we install twrp and then flash EU ROM and we are done...so is that right procedure or not applicable to 2021 devices like you said? (Asking this because EU roms are also custom but based on miui stock)

there is also this guide which contains a lot of useful information...
How to flash ROM and TWRP on POCO F3 / k40 / mi11x. And an explanation. A very important guide

remember to always backup your data and files to pc because unlock BL, and some rom require format data including internal storage so.. ya backup to pc. even they not instruct to format internal storage, just in case you need to because the storage is encrypted by default

Beginners step-by-step guide to installing Xiaomi.EU on POCO F3?
I have finally unlocked the bootloader (no guides mention it will wipe my phone at the same time!). Now I am looking again at Roms, HentaiOS and ArrowOS were contenders but Xiaomi.EU sounds like the best of all factors, a Poco F3 centric...
forum.xda-developers.com
I never installed Xiaomi EU or One OS.
The two main reasons I don't use any MIUI based OS are:
1. those annoying 10 seconds of waiting for almost every permision required by a lot of apps;
2. the main reason, because i like to use Nova launcher combined with gesture navigation. The Stock Android 11 does not allow users to disable navigation buttons outside of the Stock MIUI/Poco Launcher.
Also I am not 100% sure if Widevine L1 certification works in Xiaomi.eu. I know there were issues at one point.
That is needed for using streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video.... in FullHD, and also, maybe most importantly, is needed for Banking/Payment apps, including Contactless (NFC) payments.

This is really advance and I didn't get all the points he mentioned.
So can you guys please simplify it:
After unlocking bootloader, I will only root stock miui already installed, I boot to recovery via fastboot, install into ramdisk select twrp file, and then flash magisk?
I will install unofficial miui like oneos or EU after sometime, what should be the correct method, via twrp or fastboot?

I state, every modding operation is not without risks because you touch crucial parts of the system and unexpected events can happen as happened to the guy in the post, so you have to pay close attention to what you do, you don't have to be in a hurry and you have to make sure to have a PC with all the drivers and that the system is stable, otherwise any interruption of the flashing process, for the most diverse reasons, compromise the integrity of the phone and the only way to save it is to bring it to assistance.

Sorry, you're right, I've posted too many things that may have confused you.
do so, install twrp following the guide I posted above, (works fine).
Then, the fastest way to root is this, try it first and let us know if it worked, if not we will find a solution together.

Need help rooting device

Hi,
As the title says, I need help rooting a Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite device, that is updated to Android 9.
I tried rooting it, but the issues are:
1. It needs unlocking the device first, so I tried going to - //en(DOT)miui.com/unlock/.
There it wants me to connect my device to my Mi account in Setting > Developer Options > Mi Unlock Status. Thing is that this device is using one of the ROM versions, which doesn't have Mi Unlock Status.
2. This led me to try and update the ROM. Issue here is that doing so through the fastboot is not possible because the device needs to be unlocked, so I tried this - //en(DOT)miui.com/a-232.html
3. From there on, everything is fine until step 3. In android 9, they have decided to move the System Update to another table, which is fine but there are no longer 3 dots or an option to select a package. I tried looking for that without success.
4. Downgrading to Android 8 is not possible anymore, and I haven't really checked if I can do it with a locked phone.
Can someone help me find what I am missing here? There must be a way I can root the device.
Thank you!
developer options , unlock oem, boot to bootloader and type fastboot oem unlock, its that simple. All you nee to do after this is follow a tutorial for rooting with magisk.
My friend you were following the wrong guide. This is an Android One device you don't need the unlock procedure that the other MIUI device have to do.
As mentioned above the unlocking is straight forward, however the steps following can be a bit more confusing.
Basically there are different methods on how to actually gain root access, the most popular and recommended one would be using a framework/app called Magisk.
Download the magisk manager from the app store and more importantly check exactly your build number in your phone settings as you will need a patched boot.img file for exactly that build (here you can either download the patched boot from one of the thread here but its more safe to actually patch the original boot.img yourself).
However most of the stuff is written in this thread, it's only missing the updated boot files for Android Pie.
I recommend you to patch the boot from the official Rom files (for example for Pie 10.0.2.0 here and patch it via magisk manager yourself)
Thank you all. I managed to root it.
1. Not entirely sure how the unlock went but it was successful. I tried the fastboot oem unlock. I think that did it.
2. Got TWRP on the fastboot and installed Magisk
3. Root access was granted, data got wiped twice though, but the second part was my fault.

Clarification Desired: TWRP and rooting

Hello all, sorry if I've happened to missed the guides.
I've rooted a few phones in the past and installed custom rooms, however, I do so infrequently and every time things change.
I only have a loose grasp of GIS roms, so I'll just let that one slide.
I have the mi A2 lite (obviously) and would like to root it or get a custom room that works well.
I don't mind stock, since it is not bloated.
I installed twrp, upgraded from android 8 to 9, then twrp disappeared.
I've read somewhere that I need to disable encryption for twrp, but maybe that's no longer possible that I'm on Android 9.
If I stay stock, will or will I not be able to continue OTA?
TL;DR: Hoping for a basic guide for how to root. I wouldn't mind custom rom, but stock is fine.
Thanks!
You dont have to install TWRP for root
You could install magisk and get OTA updates

Since I don't want to brick my phone and have some fun with the phone...

Hello everyone
I've just got my RN5. It's a M1803E7SG model which is whyred AFAIK so I'm posting in correct forum hopefully
I'm running MIUI Global 10.3.1 with Pie update, which is okay for me and I would like to stick to it (so no custom ROMs)
But it would be nice to flash some custom Kernel (I'm thinking of KangarooX) and get root to access build.prop and Camera2 API.
And maybe play a bit with Gcam stuff.
So this is what I want to do (please correct me if I want to do something wrong):
1. apply for the unlock (which is funny, going to http://en.miui.com/unlock/ allows me to download flash tool immediately, no need to apply, I'm logged in and added my phone through developer options)
2. continue with this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ne-xiaomi-redmi-note-5-whyred-unlock-t3778049
3. go with this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/how-to/index-everything-anti-roll-t3816219
which means going to fastboot then flashing dummy.img and after that - RWRP (since it's supposed to support MIUI OTA updates)
or maybe just boot RWRP through fastboot and flash what I need and leave original recovery? (if I understood correctly, I can do that, right?)
4. flash magisk
5. restart the phone and enjoy
have I missed something?
Thanks!

Downloading mi unlock tool != Unlocking it
Connect the device to PC, click unlock from app, confirm everything then you will get a 360hr timer. After 360 hrs, again connect and click unlock from app, then the device will get unlocked.Everything on internal storage will get wiped after unlocking so back it up.
After unlocking, follow any guide for arb4 roms to flash twrp/pbrp/orangefox for pie. from there flash cam2api for pie and reboot(else flash magisk,if you want root)

Thanks for the response! I've learnt that timer the hard way, though I have 168 hours to wait now.
Anyway, is there anything I can do with the locked bootloader?

Looking for recovery and magisk root for MIUI 11

Hello!
I have MIUI11 Global ROM and looking for recovery and way to install magisk without bricking, bootlooping and damaging my phone.
I found Orange Foxy but it does not support MIUI 11. I found also TWRP but i read few times with issues after flashing magisk.
Is there any safe way to get root on MIUI 11 with magisk?
Regards!
Currently a lot of Bootlooping issue. I wouldn't tweak RN8Pro for now.
If you got into bootloop, you'll need Authorized Service Account and SPFlash tool which honestly is a pain.

OnePlus 7T vs Pixel 4a - Android 10 - Root without TWRP?

Longtime OnePlus owner (3T and then 5). The 5 is still a great device for me overall but I've never been thrilled with the camera (no OIS) or the intermittent GPS Lock issues I've had.
The 7T is on sale though it may be a bit large for me. The 4A looks like it will be very cheap and have a good camera.
Anyway, I know that devices that ship with Android 10 don't yet have TWRP so this would apply to both devices, but I've never rooted without it. I've seen the instructions using the patched boot image method. It seems straight-forward, but also risky.
Any thoughts from those of you who've always used TWRP and are now unlocking the bootloader, rooting with Magisk, and installing Edxposed without TWRP? Do you find that to be overly risky for a daily driver, or just fine if you follow instructions?
It's been good for me personally on my 7t, as I follow instructions. I sim unlocked mine within 3 days, bootloader unlocked within a week, converted to international firmware and then to a custom rom and I've landed on msm extended. You generally extract a bin file with python to get the fastboot files for a custom rom, and then flash them in fastboot or some roms have fastboot files with a bat file for windows that's super easy to use, just one click to install like in msm extended vs extracting files and then manually flashing like in omni.
Aside from my ramblings root is really easy to get, you generally(not always it depends on the rom I think) boot the patched boot img and then direct install in magisk manager. So fastboot boot \magisk.img ( or whatever file path and img name) or you can direct install to the inactive slot if you took an update(depends on rom I think) So basically take the boot.img from the rom or update, patch in magisk manager, boot it from your pc, and then direct install or to the inactive slot.
TLDR: it is safe if you follow instructions and can read.
Side notes, xposed is generally a privacy risk and threat so I wouldn't use that. Mods like xprivacylua are crap and don't actually work, use Blocker for trackers and analytics blocking.
And twrp is not too far off at this point, they've been slowly developing it and the chinese already have a full functioning one for the 7t(don't use it, not open source)

Thanks, I might just wait for the non-Chinese TWRP before jumping in. TWRP has saved me from a few mis-steps along the way.
EdXposed - Yes, there are security issues with it and it's a hassle getting the correct variant these days, but I use GravityBox which requires EdXposed.

This is my first one plus device coming from a pixel 2 XL which I honestly loved so much like the way it just felt and I never rooted or messed with things like that since my Motorola nexus 6 lol I was a bit nervous but followed the steps and instructions and I'm rooted latest stock oos with blu_spark kernel and yet to run into any issues yet so if I can you would be able to aswell as long as you follow all steps on whatever it is you want to do your good.
