¿Why LG G8 don't have any custom rom? - LG G8 Questions & Answers

I was about to buy this phone and like all the ones I buy I go to XDA to check if it has a developer to back it up but I find that it does not have anyone.
My question is ... Why doesn't he have anyone behind him? Is the phone itself like Sprint's LG G5 that is almost impossible to modify or is it just a dead cell phone?
-I using a translator, if we see an error gramatically

.

Nothing?

Because it may not be a popular/interesting device?
Because LG gave up the smartphone business and support is dodgy?

I understand, I am obliged to look for a phone that has support in XDA, I close post

Most variants of this device are bootloader locked. It would be nice if LG would unlock the bootloaders considering they're ditching the business.

Couldn't it be demanded? Right now, LG phones are cheaper than any mid-range, taking this into account and that they were withdrawn from the market, it would be a very good idea to release it. Is there any way to get in touch with them or guy to get it released?

I dunno, I don't work for them.
Not likely though considering they only currently support a few devices for that, and they'll be shutting the site down: https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev

it,s time to announce to all mobile lovers....dont buy lg phones.......
I had my heart set on getting this on the 11th until I got a reply from lg saying the boot loader will be locked. Makes it hard to put this s3 down or pass up the note knowing that. So I'll wait in the wings if the boot loader is unlocked by devs here I may pick it up but not before
Just Sprint?

+1. If you guys really want to get this beasty phone...i suggest you guys start signing the petition and pass it around to your friends and other forums. It's time to put an end to locked bootloaders by the manufacturers. It's our money so we should be able to use any way we want it.
How much good will a petition actually do here?
Anyway, I sincerely hope there is a practical way for it to be unlocked.
I would never expect for the device itself to come unlocked but, I think it's fairly reasonable to hope there is a manufacturer provided way to unlock it.

Not a "source," it was LG tech support. I got the same "no reply" reply which I will gladly post for you below:
LG Support said:
Good Morning, Jared!
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics, I understand your concern, and it will be my pleasure to assist you as far as I am able.
The LG E970 will not be unlocked but I cannot say that it will be unlockable, but that I am looking into and will get back with you once an answer has been received...

Yeah, I don't know about LG specifically, but most tech support people don't know jack. Asking tech support is almost always less useful than checking XDA... or usually even a quick google search (heck, that's often what tech support resorts to)

Yeah pretty much.
I'm still hopeful XDA will find a way around the locked bootloader.
I think it was the S3 or the Gnex on verizon had like 2,000$ bounty on breaking the bootloader.

Professor Google usually has the answer... An XDA-style unboxing would be nice...
I doubt it would be beneficial even if this phone had an unlocked bootloader. LG would likely never provide any meaningful support in the form of driver, kernel sources etc, so any functional AOSP/AOKP roms would be non existent.

Why so few roms for H815?

I was considering getting an H815 for use on AT&T instead of the new Moto. It appears that you can easily unlock the bootloader. It currently costs less than $450 on Amazon for a 32G leather version. It has an SD card, replaceable battery, great camera, and a good SOC (that does not have issues like the 810). So, why are there so few roms for it? I won't buy a phone unless it is first well-supported on XDA.

H815 will not work with VZ. You have to buy the VZ variant so no unlocked bootloader but can be rooted.

I also do not understand what this means. Are you saying that only OPEN EUR versions can unlock the bootloader and flash roms, and that so few people own them that no one has bothered to create a custom rom for the phone?

As for ROMs, I have been noticing that for a few years on a lot of phones. If you want ROM's, you really need to stock with Nexus devices these days.
I have bought a G4 and luckily mine could be rooted. But yes, there are very few roms available and as a former Samsung user I must say I'm very disappointed with the help you get on the forums. Most queries aren't answered. If I were you I'd stick to HTC.
@phoneturf the h811 is the most prevalent version. I wouldnt get the 815.

Here it is a month later and the support for none of the G4 variants appears to have changed. There are a couple of stock roms for the T-mobile version, but doing a little reading I cannot even tell if there's a working TWRP or CWM for it. I decided to check back with the G4 since now I am instead considering a V10, although I suppose now I won't really consider that one either - I really wanted a replaceable battery and SD card.. If they sold one with an unlockable bootloader for all carriers, like Nexus, Moto, or OnePlus, I assume there would be much more support.
I bought a used G4 815 on Ebay, before I know that only the EU version could be opened (will see what's arriving in a day or two )
Is there any work being done on an Unofficial bootloader unlock?
I saw that the G3 does have allot of roms, did that phone was in the same situation as the G4 at it's beginning?

The G3 was originally in the same boat as the G4 as well in the beginning. That's why everyone is saying stfu and wait. A lot of folks just look at Nexus and other easy unlocks then expect everything to come into their laps within seconds.
And there is an unofficial bootloader unlock in the works. BUT it appears it only works if you haven't taken an OTA update before. All in good time my friend.

I am looking at the Blackberry Priv over the v10.
Take a look, it may do what you need it to and have some extra features added in as a bonus.
Only problem is I do not know what the dev community will be like for this phone.

In the hidden menu I don't see any "roolback" value, so does this says something?
Does using the "low effort root" / installing 11a or 12a will make the roolback value go to 1/2?

yeah well unlocking for a variant or two is no where near enough. there's a lot of people that are "stuck" with a locked variant (like yours truly) that won't get custom kernel support without a giant hack from the devs here.
bad LG is bad.

Lg isn't the problem...carriers are refusing to carry lg devices that lg offers official unlocks for...T-Mobile being the only branded device with unlock...thats why we need devs to get cm/aosp working on h815 so devs will want the g4 and with more devs moving in it gives more hope to get other variants unlocked
@tsiroto H811 needs a kernel just as much as the 815! They're a ton of people with the h811, the majority.

Verizon will not be (officially)unlockable due to their agreement(silent contract) but afaik lg is still trying to have unlock available on more variants as marshmallow is being released to the g4...will take time but they said they would release more as unlock methods become available...plus like i said unofficial methods will be worked on as more devs come to own g4s

Is G4 still bootlooping on manufactured versions of 2016?

Im planning to buy this smartphone by the end of January 2017, its the European version I think (Spain)... But Im afraid it would still bootloop as older G4 devices manufactured in previous months, so...
This problem has been fixed in newer devices?
I was thinking in buying the G5 but the price I have found for this smartphone is quite interesting.

How many times is this gonna be asked? No one can tell you if it is fixed with "newer" G4 devices. Anyone who owns this device should have a backup device because you can't trust any G4... and even if its fixed, I still do not recommend this phone. It has many other problems which is in my opinion not worth to deal with. I regret buying this phone.

If you really want to go with LG, buy the G5, that phone isn't flawless but much more reliable than a ''newer" LG G4.

Yes I know, I never said that there aren't G5's with bootloop problems but with that device it is way less common.
And that why I think he should better go for the G5 if he really wants a LG phone.
It's a worry though - if they can bring out a new gen device that still has the flaws it took them a 35000 strong petition to even acknowledge... not a trustworthy company.
I'm sorry to hear ppls had problems with their G4 phones .
What I can say , speaking from a developer perspective , LG g4 is great , at least the one I have , I have a h815 European Unlocked , serial number starts with 6xx.
I just can tell you that i stressed this phone like no other phone before .
I always think how this little piece can take so much stress.
I'm a rom developer and I can say I i flashed and reflashed over 10 -15 times per day different roms.
I build Maru OS for this phone and I runned Debian inside it ,with a lot of app oopened and a lot of multimedia tasks , and tested a lot how apps works on it , even games.
I used it like a pc , using debian and I can tell you I stressed it a loooot .
What I can say is that is a good harware , I do not try to convice anyone to buy one and I do not want ppls to spend money on something that can easly brick . But told you , I was impressed how mine resists to stress. No problems in 4 months.
Have a great day all !
Mine is 602 and it's still going strong. No issues. No overheating. It's works flawlessly.

Which G7 Variant is best for Root + Tmobile/Metro??

I know i know the G710TM cant be bootloader unlocked, but i can take one of the other variants thats GSM unlocked and bring it to Tmob, so which one is best for compatibility? Specifically looking for 4G LTE and mobile Hotspot to be working correctly. Is this possible, or should i stick with H932 (V30) and root that instead?
thanks in advance

Gah. you just sealed it. I'm glad that I didn't make the purchase as of yet. But my suspicions it looks like I was correct. I was debating either upgrading all the way to v40 but it looks like development hasn't gone very far either. though I would like the five camera setup and the portrait mode of the two front facing cameras I don't know if it is worth it as having root plus access custom roms is what I'm really looking for. It looks like development for the v30 is where I need to be. Plus I have all the tools necessary to root it. I've actually rooted it before but the phone was stolen for me
Can it really be that a two-year-old smartphone is really the best bet? I can buy 2 v30s for the price of one v40
