Need help with locking apps - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

With Covid, we've been forced to hand this device to my 8y/o brother during classes, which is not a good thing since he plays games and watches videos in the background during his classes.
We've tried the app-lock available in the phone but he bypasses any and all locks using Focus Mode (which I haven't found a way to permanently disable yet). Any other app-lock apps seem to not work at all on this device (while they work fine on other devices, even after giving device admin and allowing drawing over other apps).
The few apps that worked, he uninstalls them easily. I WISH I could remove YouTube and the other apps from this device, but we don't have my laptop with me for that. Additionally, the App Vault and other homescreen-related options being easily accessible in the settings panel on Home (and not locked by the default AppLock even when Settings is locked) does NOT help at all.
Any ideas? Please, I'm desperate at this point.
PS. The device is Redmi Note 8

[Q] how to activate guest mode?

this was a much hyped feature of sense 4.0, to allow other people to use your phone, but not access your private data.
How do you access it?

I am also looking for an answer to this, please help
in storage you can make a password for your data on your phone but which guest mode do you mean ? this is the only thing i found
Guest Mode for All Android Phones (App)
The first time a guest mode was revealed for any android device was with the launch of LG G2 series phones. This feature was advertised so well in the media. I also bought an LG G2 at that time (not for this feature alone) as it was a great phone. I realized that a little over six months had passed and I seldom used the Guest Mode feature on the phone.
The guest mode in G2 and the one in the upcoming Android L (5.0) is something that is too apparent in nature. What I mean is that any adult who is given a phone in the guest mode will easily be able to come to know that they do not have the full access to the phone. In cultures (like India), it will be considered very rude in case I lent a phone to another user in Guest Mode. Also, what do you do when you Dad asked you for your phone, you surely cannot give him in Guest Mode (this will make him more suspicious).
This was the practical challenge when I decided to make an app for myself, the app that I have been using is similar to an app locker. However, it has been added with a screen lock as well. I chose two different types of passwords (one master and another guest). The app allows me to chose all the applications that I consider private and want to be locked (such as emails, whatsapp, other chats, picture gallery etc). When I unlock my screen using the master password, the screen gets unlocked and all protected apps get unlocked as well. When I give my phone to someone else, I just give them my guest password. The screen gets unlocked normally using the guest password, however, all the protected apps continue to be locked. This helps me easily give my phone to others.
When I gave the app to my friends, the kind of response that I received was overwhelming. So launched it for public as well. You can download the app for free from Google Play. Just search for Pluggdd on Google Play, it is the only app on Pluggdd as the developer.
Looking forward to feedback from you all developers on what is missing in the app and what more features can I add.

Strange "RootPA" app on my HTC 10. Is it a potential security issue?

Im using a HTC 10 (EU variant). Today i was scrolling through "Netguard" (if you dont know it, its an app to prevent other apps from internet access), since i configured it to show system apps it displays way more apps than the normal app overview in the settings. In there i found an app called "RootPA" and one called "root", which seems strange since i didnt unlock the bootloader or root on my own. The details in the RootPA entry say "com.gd.mobicore.pa", no idea if thats helpfull to determine the origin of this mysterious app.
Can you help me with this?
Did you Google it?
I did, but the results were not realy usefull. I found someone with a modded Galaxy S3 who deleted a RootPA on accident and broke stuff, but that ssems unrelated. Are there any things i could do to find out more about the app installed on my phone without root?
I cant say its something I've ever seen. If this person in the past removed it, and it broke stuff, that would suggest that it may have been a system app and he was rooted. From what I managed to find on google, it is part of a security suite (mobicore) used by networks to monitor what the state of the phone is, presumably incase something happens, and it was the user fault, and they know for a fact because they have logs of what the phone has done.
[ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE] Allows applications to access information about networks
[INTERNET] Allows applications to open network sockets. (i.e send information)
[READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE] Allows an application to read from external storage.
[READ_PHONE_STATE] Allows read only access to phone state.
A friend of mine got his HTC 10 2 days ago, ill ask him to look for this app. Its unlikely we would have the same virus/whatever installed.
Edit: He just reseted his 10 (due to missing language options, but thats another topic), but still found "root" and "rootPA" on his phone, so its preinstalled (although i still dont understand whats its purpose).
RootPA is provides service for provisioning secure applications that run on ARM trustzone and t-base OS (formerly mobicore). It is preinstalled in some vendors Android devices (search for this string on the internet: htc-devices-to-incorporate-trustonic-t-base-tee), but mostly unused as far as I know. The source code of some versions is available on the Internet (e.g. on github /Faryaab/android_hardware_samsung_slsi_exynos5410/tree/master/mobicore/rootpa).
It has nothing to to with rooting or unrooting the device.

Broken screen, trying to do data recovery

I have a friend's A50 that was dropped and the screen does not power on. The device is stock, unrooted. It does power on because I get vibrations from doing various power button long presses and such, feeling as if it's powering on and then entering the OS. Additionally it can even be called and it rings.
Unfortunately, USB Debugging is not enabled so ADP isn't working. Also since it's defaulting to no file transfer, plugging it into a computer is not allowing access to the file system. All I'm trying to do is recover her photos and songs and such that she has recorded from the device storage.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to access the onboard storage?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Use the steps mentioned here :

I've personally tested it on my A50 prior to telling you. So it works 100%
Your problem doesn't require forensic tools, this simple fix works.
Tip :
• Windows key on keyboard opens Google Assistant. No need to say Hey/Ok Google.
• Not necessary, but you can keep another Smartphone nearby to verify your actions.
• Read the comments under the video.
Cheers !
I appreciate the help! I have a USB C OTG adapter on the way that should arrive tonight so I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes.

Whelp, no such luck. I'm sure that method would work fine under normal circumstances. I was able to practice on my Pixel 2 XL and it did work. But it appears she did not have google assistant set up, so I could not use voice to turn on wifi. It also appears to have no data connection without wifi, so I can't push an app to it through the play store. Even if I could get wifi turned on, there's no way to force it to connect to my wifi.
The unlock is a pattern, not a pin, so while you *can* unlock a pattern with a mouse or track pad (which I do have), doing it blindly is nearly impossible. So I have no way of knowing if I've even unlocked the phone. In short, I really don't know if there's much I can do for her, sadly.
@Morpherios
I already stated you don't need voice assistant activated, you can use Windows key to activate without saying Ok/Hey Google.
Read my @1 point.
Cheers !

The biggest 2 problems are that I can't verify if i've unlocked it since it uses a pattern and there's no feedback to tell me (I'm basically doing it blind from a touchpad because I don't know how else to go about it), and also that I don't know if it'll even get onto my wifi assuming I can get in and get it to turn on wifi.
I wish it was a pin, that would at least be easy to type in on the keyboard.

Don't worry.
I see you need your data urgently.
Use Cracked version of Dr.Fone software, it'll recover your data without USB debugging as well.
P.S - Message me personally on Xda, don't post here from now. I'll help you there.
Cheers !
What can I do if cant install APP from google play from PC?
How about replace the display and have a functional phone with your data back?
Hi, is it possible to unlock the device with the keyboard and then use a USB-C to HDMI cable to view the screen on an external monitor ?

Device care lameness

So as one can see, i got a lot of apps on my device and since device care couldn't come with the option to select all for adding apps to put to sleep, it's an extreme headache. As you can see from the screenshots, i get this message like once a month or so and it changes all my sleeping apps list and adds them to deep sleeping which I don't want. Is there a way to disable this thing?
Putting apps to sleep ie using any power management can cause erratic behavior even more battery usage.
Start by using Karma Firewall (Playstore) to lock it down as needed and PD MDM to disable the apks that are causing trouble.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.

Can you elaborate please? I used to use greenify ages back but that isn't supported anymore. I am okay with device care, i just want it to stop checking for non used apps itself, cause i did it all manually and don't need apps to be added to any list automatically

You don't have to use Device Care, if you should be able to disable after you pick the power setting and enable fast charging, those changes will still remain in force.
I'm running on Pie and have a earier, more user friendly version of Device Care on my 10+.
Q and especially 11 are going to be major headaches. The logging feature on Karma Firewall is disabled by them I believe.
It still will block internet connections but you can't monitor what app and how many times it is accessing the internet like I can on Pie.
There may be a ADB workaround, not sure.
Sorry but Q and above are bloody nightmares...

Question niche question... android 13/samsung gear/wear app

Just a quick question to anyone how maybe be running Android 13 and also using Samsung gear/wear app.
Does the app actually work with devices connected? As in are you able to access features?
I have it installed and devices connected (Galaxy buds Live, Galaxy Buds Pro, Galaxy Watch 4) however in the app they appear to not be connected, and tapping connect does nothing. They do work (mostly). I am sure the app just needs updated for 13, but curious if anyone possibly upgraded from 12/12L and it actually works. I had a brain fart and ended up having to wipe device, so i just installed 13, but if anyone upgraded and it works, I will re-install 12 and upgrade through the normal path.
Make sure the Wearables app has all the many permissions it needs enabled or it will puke on you.
I just went through this with it. It seems Samsung changed and increased the number of needed permissions. Google play Services must be enabled at least initially for Wearables to detect the bt devices. If all of these conditions are not met it will behave erratically when detecting devices or completely fail to connect.
Also try a network reset.
Even on Samsung phones this app is a nosey Parker problem child
It gave me a run for my money...

Thanks, ya I did all that. That also lead me to believe it has more to do with it needing updated for 13 as all the devices are allowed notification access, but wear asks to allow access. says it cant show notifications on the watch, even though all the permissions and notification access are allowed.
