Question Pen on Custom ROMs? - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

Do you guys think it will be possible to support the pen on custom ROMs? How does that work normally, is it some drivers that need to be installed, or would functionality be at a very low level such that with custom ROMs it wouldn't be possible or...?
By custom ROMs I mean Pixel Experience etc, not the Xiaomi EU MIUI crap.

There isnt any custom ROM for this device

The smart pen nor keyboard cover work with Treble GSI ROMs. The smart pen can be paired to a tablet running GSI, but no response from the tablet's display when using the pen. I'm guessing there is something in the MIUI ROMs for this tablet that allow allow the tablet and pen to work together (may be in all MIUI ROMS).

Hi, it's possible

I was wondering the same thing as well...
Really hope good ROMs are coming soon, the software experience is awful rn

Daily driver for me. I tried PE12 but it was too buggy. Follow instructions to fix sound stutter, Bluetooth and 120 Hz.

I don't have a pen, yet.

No, the pen doesn't work on PE11 GSI or any other GSIs I tried. It's a real shame. Still for me PE11 is much better than MIUI.

Hi
If anyone here is really interested in getting custom ROMs for this tablet, I can try with you guys and hopefully I can get at least TWRP running.
I'll need some testers because I don't have the device

Mix 2s has treble so they just used the generic system image of P which had been out for a while.
Basically nothing special for a treble device.
It doesn't seem to boot on our treble port from Nils or Verevka so idk what's different about it.
Eh.
We will probably get LOS P in the future but for now we only just got Oreo and P is way off being a full release.

Having closely watched the LOS development for a year, I think it's gonna take a while for LOS in P to be as stable as current LOS in Oreo. And regression bug can still keep coming, regardless how mature it is.
Hi All,
thanks for your replies and input into this thread. I appreciate it, and hope, we will get some Android P
have a nice day!
Mi Mix2s Android P Beta is not a GSI. It's a specific image for that system. If it was a GSI then would we able to use it already on our Mi6.

I wan't all the goodies available when it comes to the google assistant, my take is, the new assistant features like calling a hair salon will be available on P first.
I also like the suble changes in design that come with each iteration of android.

You can give that up. As far as I know treble is not on the one plus 3 and most roms are not making their roms GSI for the plain reasons.

Is it possible? Maybe, but unless you are gonna do it I wouldnt count on it. This device is just getting too old and all the main developers have moves to other devices. Not to mention most roms are not going the GSI route. So making their roms, devices compatible just isnt gonna happen unless someone gets board. You are more then welcome to try.

Best android Q gsi for MOTO z2 play? (ALBUS)

So after testing AOSP extended, LineageOS17, Havoc OS and even DerpFest OS, I think moto z2 (albus) doesn't do great with GSI for android 10. There always was something off and the stability was far from one you expect from a gsi. I used KVT 2.3 aroma to boot. However, there are other devs releasing unofficial GSI roms as well which I haven't tested. Like ExPressLukeGSI or Trisquel collection which probably has a special thing for albus. So I am posting this expecting replies from anyone showing love to z2 play, If you know something then tell me. If you want to test the GSIs and can't find links, ask me.

does anyone know if they are developing a gsi or normal Android 10 ROM for Moto Z2 Albus because I have been waiting for it for a long time and I would like to ask that please continue supporting this team please
@Euiz702 GSI is not specific for some device. You can use almost any GSI on Z2 Play already now

What kind of problems did you have? I'm testing phusson's plain AOSP and so far works good. Scrolling and some apps, especially Google maps run smoother than on stock Pie. I'm using modded Google Camera 6 (shared in Apps&Mods forum), it works good, just HDR+ can't be turned off and it tends to improve reality too much. I just didn't manage to install Magisk yet.
I also wanted to try Trisquels's gsi-albus stuff, but SourceForge has been working badly recently and I wasn't able to download anything

If you want a rom with good battery life, try DescendantOS x (10). Havoc is good, but not for battery life.

I don't know and I already left. But before, my battery usually lasted for one day, now maybe half maybe a bit more.
I tried DescendantX, but it seemed a bit undone with something in status bar. But maybe I try it once more.
I also tried GSIs from gsi-albus project on SourceForge and they seem good, but they have always navigation bar on and fingerprint gestures off (doesn't matter what you select in kvt installer). So I wander whether they are really built with Albums in mind...
Can someone here help me decide whether to take the plunge or not into flashing a custom ROM on my daily driver Z2 Play, by clarifying some of my doubts.
1) Whether the Moto experiences like Moto Actions and Moto Display will be available when using custom ROMs and GSIs?
2) Will it be possible to return to stock ROM after flashing a 64bit Treble based ROM?
3) Also what is the best, most stable Android 9 or 10 based ROMs for Moto Z2 Play?

There are no stable Pie or Q ROMs for Z2 Play unfortunately. Only GSI ones that are all more or less bugged and it seems like no developer is interested in this phone anymore. For stable ROMs you can choose only from 8.1 ones which are all quite outdated at this point as well. Anyway I use unofficial LineageOS 15.1 as daily driver for like 1,5 year now and have no complaints, it's absolutely rock solid and latest release has February 2020 security patches. Moto actions, Moto display (kinda, it's different than stock) and fingerprint gestures works.
But honestly I don't think there is much point in flashing custom rom now, especially if you have stock 9.0.
Pixel experience plus on Albus
I have flashed the Pixel Experience Plus Android 10 GSI on Albus by using the latest KVT 2.4 and it works like charm.
There are no major bugs, everything is working fine like basic functions and performance is awesome.
Only ambient display is not working, other than that almost everything is working fine and this GSI can be used as daily driver.
And magisk is also working.
Did anyone tried to install Erfan's Oxygen OS GSI on Albus???

Development

I'm just curious why ROM development for this device is so limited. Most other OP devices have a very large and active amount of developers. What is different about the 7T?
This is not a bash, just curious.
Devs call the OnePlus 7T a "drama queen" due to some really weird bugs.
I'm really missing ROMs like "Resurrection Remix" and "Havoc OS". Literally just been using OOS even though on all my previous OnePlus devices I always had some custom ROM or the other as my daily driver.
The 7T has:
OmniROM
MSM Extended
AOSIP
Tresk
But there are issues with flashing and until they get TWRP working entirely (close, as a Chinese developer made great strides in decryption) there won't be a ton of ROMS for it, unfortunately. But I consider there to be enough to offer a good custom ROM experience, as there are a few really nice ones available.

Are these same issues not present on the OP7T PRO? It seems to have at least a few more ROMs.
what are the problems with flashing? you can also flash the custom roms that are available for the op7t by fastbootd (not fastboot) (or you can use the chinese twrp version that works for a custom rom to 99% (except fastbootd that is what the twrp wants, at least for me not working )

TWRP cannot mount system and therefor cannot flash the normal way. Have to use fastbootd and be very careful. That Chinese verison is interesting but it would be better to have an open source solution at hand.

Question [CLOSED] Best custom ROM?

Hello guys. I'm looking for best official custom ROM for my POCO F3. I'm planning to use it daily, so I want stable ROM without any BIG bugs. Can you tell me which ROM is best at this moment? (Your opinion). Thank you and sorry for bad English
I'd recommend the recommended. The mother rom (Xiaomi EU). [EU has nothing to do with europe]. It has the latest official Xiaomi rom features. Basically what Xiaomi updates comes directly to you through this rom (with pack of other features)

The thing is you need to know what suits you the most and feel comfortable with. You can check the ones available here labeled as [Development].
I hope the guys here give you more intels of which could be the beat custom rom besides custom MIUI
Right now, hands down the best rom would be Arrow OS. Been using it for a couple of days now and the smoothness and experience is on next level.
I was previously using stable and then weekly EU rom.

That's banned on XDA. It's also not open source . As a havoc contributor I'm biased to havoc however most of the ROMs use the same device source and so are all stable. I think ArrowOS may be the most stable at the moment but I don't have a problem daily driving Havoc

ArrowOS is supporting OTA. I feel it's the most stable and snappiest of the current AOSPs. Light and fast, without a bunch of features I don't really need
