Folders are paginated; any way to make them scroll naturally? - Nova Launcher

I've looked through every section of Nova settings and I can't figure out how to make folders scroll normally again, i.e. without pages. I really hate the list of apps jumping up and down out of control instead of staying where I scrolled to.
Has normal scrolling in folders been removed or am I missing something? If it has been removed, it's a big downgrade and a big thumbs down from me.

Can the following TF3D mods be done?

1: Turn off the animated weather on the home screen. I don't want any wallpaper
2: Rename the favorites tab to Contacts, and remove the whole favorites screen. when I go to that tab, I want to see the screen you get if you hit the "all contacts" button in the lower left corner.
3: remove the "Add push internet page" links on the internet tab
4: remove the mail preview on the mail tab. when i go to that tab, I want to see my inbox as if I clicked the inbox link in the lower left corner
5: get the tasks on the home screen
It looks like you would need to modify the tabs to make this happen, is that possible? All the searching I have done only show ways to change the pictres or colors, not to actually get at the coding that drives the functionality of the tab. Some guy coded a calendar tab for an older verison of TouchFlo but never says how he actually did it or what langauge/IDE he used, so it looks like it is possible.
Also, is there a definitive list of all the "hidden" tabs that you can turn on (like Sound Settings, CommManager, etc)

Folders

Is there a way to install folders? In other words on the home screen, you have the tiles , thats great , move to the left and you have a line of a thousand apps, would be nice to be able to make folders , that way I can move all my utilities to a folders, and have sub categories for all the apps, just curious! It would be easier to get to the stuff I need right now!
at present, no. maybe it would be good to take a look at the pinned threads in this section first as it will give you better insight into what is there and what isn't, and perhaps if work arounds exist yet.
I'm not sure why you'd need folders, the app list works very well with its SPIN-STOP-TAP numminess. Folders would just add extra taps and complications.
I personally use the app list very rarely because my most-used apps have tiles on the start screen. If you're using the app list much, consider adding your commonest apps as tiles.
Yep, the alphabetical list seems to work surprisingly well (and notice how people aren't complaining about it, while there was lots of talk about it before real devices got out).
Also, there are some folders. They are called hubs. Games, Office, Pictures, Music+Videos contain links to all relevant applications. That, and pinning most frequently apps to Start Screen, does a good job organizing things for me.
Custom/additional hubs could be a nice addition, though I'm not sure how that should be implemented.
Im not complaining at all , I love the ui , but I think folders should be available , not just HUBs , with a hub you have set apps for the hub , now if you had a folders you could add the apps you want to those folders , If I had a folder called Utilities ,I could add Registry Editor, settings, accent changer, samsung tools, diagnosis, one for Mail, add all my emails and mms ,sms , just thinking it would be easier to group certain items and be less cluttery! Sure scrolling is nice and easy, but like on my desktop , I group programs and it makes it easy to get to them!
a small correction, there aren't set apps for hubs, app devs can make their app associate with the hub, for example third party app that does this which isn't made by an oem are Fantasia Painter, Apict, and Lyrics.
I too want folders. I have a lot of apps and scrolling can be long and tiresome. A grid would be better as more icons per page could be shown. I don't want to add lots of apps to the homescreen because then that will become a long list too!
I would love folders like Travel, Fun, Utilities, System, Audio, Video, Photo etc.
There has to be a reg tweak somewhere....

eww, grid? No thank you, don't want my phone to be an iOS ripoff (I'm looking at you, Android). Customizable folders would be awesome. Long hold on start screen, create new folder option, name folder, drag apps to folder, choose hub background pic, done. That'd be wicked. I'd love to create a Business folder with MS Office, Notes, stocks, realtor.com, handyscan, financial calculator etc.

Erm hello? What are you talking about? The old windows microsoft OS (5 and up) had the grid system layout before IOS so how could a grid system layout be a rip off of IOS?????
The current windows phone 7 list view shows 9 and a half applications per screen view. If you had a grid layout you could get anywhere between 12 and 18 app icons per page view. I thought the whole point of the WP7 marketing system was to spend less time on your phone. Who want to spend ages flicking their thumb up and down to get to applications when you could tap and maybe scroll once or twice if the apps were in a grid layout. Surely that would be a more time efficent layout. I love the OS but wish the app list view could be better.

Exactly!
I too love the home screen the way it is , but if I had the folder system I could employ a utitlities folder on the home screen , drag an app, drop it , pinning is fine too , I like to keep the homescreen limited to apps i use frequently!
The grid system would be a killjoy. It would require more hunting. With multiple apps in line you are not only reading the first letter as you are with WP7, I can scroll through my apps, see the letter and stop, with android I had to scroll through my apps, see the letter, read through the next 2 rows to find it... with WP7, much quicker. Plus it would just make it uglier.
A grid wouldn't serve many of us. With them ou need to keep looking for icons instead just the application names as in WP7 applications list.
Folders should be a neat addition. You have a folder in there, TAP and then a list like a contextual menu appears and TAP the app. This, without living the applications list would a be a great addition.
Also, adding search capabilities to the list is a much needed feature.

Placing apps according to their alphabets

Every time I unplug my phone from my pc I see that the order the apps are placed are changed, fx once an app which is located on page 3, next time it is moved to page 4 or it even changes it place with other apps on the same page.
Is there a way to organize the placement of apps by alphabet, so the installed apps/games are placed according to their alphabet?
I use Go Laucher Ex...
isn't it possible without a launcher?
most launchers can do this, but I don't think its possible to do this in stock touchwiz...
EDIT:
this one has it, but after flashing the launcher won't work, so problably because its for galaxy s, and not for more resolutions/sizes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049501
Code:
alphabetical: Arrange the menu alphabetically. (Re-enter edit mode after moving an app into the dock fill in any hole in app spacing)
i think they move because you have some apps on sd, they cannot be usable if you have connected your phone to pc as mass storage
I always liked touchwiz' appearance but disliked no sorting in app drawer. Workaround? Use desktops to arrange launchers as desired. It's quicker to access the apps (; .

Sense Home Widget Issues

Hello,
My Sense Home Widget is not working properly. Pinned items disappear. Also, how am I suppose to add new folders (and apps) to the widget? Every time I remove something some other app automatically gets placed in there. I figured a work around with apps by creating a folder with a current item and the new item then removing the one I don't want... but that is a stupid design. I suppose I could do the same thing and recreate all the folders, but you think it would be easier... why cant I just drag them from another home screen. Anyone else having these issues?

Sense Home is designed to automatically populate with the apps that you use most in the particular location you're in. If you want to use it, then just set your locations and use your phone as you normally would in each location and the widget will learn which apps you use where and populate the widget accordingly.
If you want total control, then just place shortcuts directly on your home screens, but you won't have the location-specific feature anymore.
I understand it is meant to auto populate, but that doesn't account for pinned items disappearing or the lack of an intuitive way for manually adding items to that widget.

Can't add apps/widgets to Nova launcher homescreen

Hi
I've just done a factory reset on my htc One. Htc backup failed miserably so I'm trying to manually reinstate my apps on Nova Launcher Prime. Long press and hold results in a popup of my homescreens in the background with no option to add apps or widgets. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Nova and checked the homescreen is unlocked but am pretty much out of ideas otherwise.
Any thoughts out there?
Thanks
go into
Nova settings > Desktop > Advanced > Lock Desktop.
That will probably be on so you cant add anything. Turn it off and you should be golden.
Thanks, but desktop lock is confirmed off. It's got to be Nova because I went briefly to sense launcher and long press works fine there.

Hi, Warthog01...
Have you tried this....
Long press on any home screen... all of the homescreens should recede slightly into the background.
Three options should appear at the bottom of the screen...
Wallpapers, Widgets and Settings.
Select the Widgets option.
** To add a widget...
...simply drag one to the home screen.
** To add an app icon, or a selection of app icons...
...locate the shortcut right at the top entitled Apps or Folder. Drag this to a homescreen... It will 'open' and provide you with a list of all of your installed apps.
Check the tickbox of those apps you wish to add. Then press 'Add' to add them directly to the homescreen, or press 'Create Folder' to add them to the homescreen in an untitled folder.
(See attached screenshots.)
Hope this helps.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Hi GedBlake
Whoa! That's different. Must have been awhile since I upgraded Nova as I've been using the old long press for both apps and widgets right up until I did the factory reset yesterday. OK, I've got your widget selection to work, but not having much luck with the apps. When I long press and the homescreens recede, there's no app/folder shortcut at the top. I see the apps/folders shortcut at the top when I click my apps box of dots in the dock, but don't see a way to drag either to a homescreen. What am I doing wrong?
Also, am I the only one who thinks this is a helluva lot more complicated than long press and select app/widget? There must be advantages--right?

You need to press the **Widgets button**, in order to see the Apps or Folder Shortcut.
It's in the Widget drawer... at the top.
(See additional screenshot).
-----
If you take another look at my second screenshot, you should see it at the top, between Nova Action and Activities. (All of these are Shortcuts, and are dragged to the Homescreen in the same way you would drag a regular widget. And they all behave in different ways when they're dropped onto a Homescreen.)
My third screenshot, is me dragging the Apps or Folder Shortcut to the Homescreen... out of the Widget Drawer, onto a Homescreen.
...and the fourth and final screenshot is it 'opening' and displaying all of my installed apps, and from where I can make my selection of apps that I want to add to my Homescreen.

With regard to the changes in the way Nova works...
Nova changed sometime in May of this year, with version 4.x, and with the developer adopting Googles Material/Lollipop design guidelines.

Thanks again, Ged. I'm a little slow, but I'm nearly there, I think. One more dumb question ought to crack it! I now see the app drawer and have successfully dragged it to the home screen, but there are only two apps in there! Presumably, I have to populate the drawer with all my apps for them to appear. How do I do that, please?

Aha! figured this one out all by myself. I had all my apps except two ticked as hidden. They're back now and I'm in business. Thanks very much for all the assistance--don't think I would have figured this out without you.
Cheers!

That's great news, @Warthog01... Glad you got it figured out.
Happy to to be of assistance .

I have another issue but don't know where to post it
I have an extensive hierarchy of tabs, folders, and folders inside of folders within my Nova Launcher app drawer setup. I'll just put it this way. I have 380 user apps downloaded, and only about 20 of them are folderless. It is all within 8 tab groups: Apps (contains app store and some stock apps), Web, Communication, Utility, Settings, Productivity, Media, and Misc. I may adjust this later. I'm using the identical red and blue icon packs "Tab Red" and Tab Blue Icon pack with the first four Tabs using only the red icon pack, and the last four only blue. It looks epic and is incredibly useful for finding what I need, but I've now spent a week trying to fix the issues that keep occurring.
I did all that work, taking me hours per day for about a week, and after each reboot, each day, the colors would reset on many of my apps, and every boot requires me to allow SD Card Write Access by moving files in ES File Explorer, or else the apps won't even appear within the app drawer (I figured this out 2 days ago). For some reason, no matter how I try to create a widget, the widgets will not show up, and when I finally get the widgets to finally work after restarting nova launcher and occasionally having to reinstall Nova and restore my backup. Even after taking all these steps, finally fixing the app drawer temporarily, My WIDGETS will require the same process to even appear anywhere. MY TABLET IS NOT ROOTED, and I am afraid to mess anything up (My rooted Note 10.1 2012 was basically rendered useless from lag and then the battery stopped working, so it is a brick that won't turn on/charge). I know there is some Xposed Module that allows users to enable write access by default, and you can use root to make external storage formatted into internal, or make nova launcher a system app, blah blah blah. I'm not going to do anything related to root, so if you know any way to fix this on 5.1.1 without rooting, that would be most appreciated. Basically, I am using my tablet for college and I probably won't root it for the next few years since I can't risk having something happen. If I can't fix this without rooting, then please recommend me a better launcher. I am really mad about these issues after all my efforts. Anyway, if you got this far, thanks for reading this and I hope someone can help.
I'm a newbie to Nova and after much scratching off head with setting up the interface I stumbled onto this thread. Thanks Ged for posting your answers - it's simple when you know how!!
Still can't add widgets to Nova Launcher. I even rooted and converted to a system app (app and prime both as system app). Widgets still won't appear on desktop. Lock Desktop is turned off. At a loss here as it happens both to my Alcatel tablet, my Stylo4.
Same issue, two different platforms.
