GPS in google pixel c - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, Recently I decided to get tablet for my car, and I come up with Google pixel C tablet, Which I'd like to use for many reason, to listen music and watch, for camera instead of mirrors, for GPS navigation. I like the size and every specs it has, read everything about it, but There is no GPS? Google pixel c doesn' come with built in gps? Is it true, why did they do so good tablet without gps? it's something like iphone 12 without camera.
I just can't beleive that any modern tablet without GPS, and plus google would have include gps staff in their devices. My question is is it true or did I read something wrong?

It is true.
The Pixel C was supposed to be a Chrome OS tablet. So, because they weren't building the hardware for Android they omitted many standard Android features from the time:
- No GPS.
- No vibration
- Touch screen cannot estimate finger pressure
- No NFC
- A surprising number of hardware components cannot be directly configured even with root because they live in the Chrome OS bootloader
There are also just weird choices or mistakes like:
- Poor WiFi signal
- Catastrophic Bluetooth signal
- 3 GB RAM when the chip supports 4 GB and it was supposed to run desktop Chrome? WAT
- Others. It's a long list really.
But I still love it even though it really should have been allowed a couple of generations for improvements to reach it's potential.

Guys how we missed this?
Since 9th of December this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ifit.android.app&hl=es
Added standalone support for GPS running with our SW3.
We have to try it.

but can we export the training to other app? like runkeeper?
I don't think so. But it's a nice way to try a new service and website.
Tried this today... Only good thing over ghostracer is looks, but that's it. More functionality and ambient with ghostracer.
Actually I find this app more than enough. It just works. Settings are easy to use and all tipical info is displayed.
I know ghostracer is great having the developer here, but ifit is the best other choice.
It's possible to see at the same time four fields of information.
And also when the app starts it waits for proper gps signal.
It's the closed ecosystem that is a non starter for me. Their website stinks and for serious runners, strava, runkeeper, etc are 100x better
I know, it depends how serious you're.
I just run for fun and I have enough with proper data in my wrist, basic cloud storage and web service.
At the moment it's the only decent alternative to Ghostracer beta...
I see now they even are promoting the SW3
https://www.ifit.com/sonywatch
I think they deserve a little more attention. They are the first of the professional running web services to develope serously for our watches.
Most serious runners or bikers have never heard of ifit. They cater more to the gym treadmill crowd with their built in software. Not saying it's bad, but most serious runners have garmin, polar, or sunutoo, or tomtom. Which have their own services and many sync to strava and runtastic.
With ghostracer hrm support, lapping, and future alerts, it smokes ifit
Sure, I also think ghostracer is the most serious project with our watch.
Just saying this is the best other (not beta) choice right now.
I just got a new SSW3 today and it has a iFit logo on the box.

gps accuracy?
Just wondering how is the gps accuracy for this app?
I have tried runkeeper, and I have no way knowing if the gps is connected or not.
Just tried ifit, only run for around 1.6km and it reported too short to save to the phone and just deleted the record.
I don't usually run a long distance, and this isn't a app for me if can't record short distances. :crying:
Otherwise, the GPS seems to be better than runkeeper. At least it keeps track of my run even I am under a sheltered walkway.

[App Proposal] What do you think? -On the Edge of the World-

So, hello everyone it's been a while.
For those who wonder what the heck is this guy,
I made this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/themes-apps/edge-navigation-bar-button-t2950486
Anyhow, let's get to the point.
I've been around making this app... called 'On the Edge of the World', or 'the Edge of the World', or 'World Edge' to shorten a lot.
For now, it's quite simple. It basically works in three steps.
1.When loaded,(that is user swipes edge panels and World Edge shows up), it checks gps location.
2.Then it retrieves google maps image from online and shows the image on the edge panel
3.Also, it writes down the address of current location.
I have fooled my phone so that it thinks that I am at the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island.
See the image below of the prototype I have worked on.

GPS locations are not re-called automatically after once it's loaded due to battery issue.
You can refresh your GPS location manually by clicking that Compass icon below, though.
(Yes, it's the icon from Safari. Sorry Jobs, I have always been shameless about stealing great icons.)
So that's basically it, at least for now.
What do you think? Too gimmicky?
What kind of functionality does this app need to become a killer-app?
Let me know.
Reserved just in case
Good work again. And what about battery use?
Possibly a GPS navigation system using just the edge with voice prompts. It can display an arrow when you need to turn(flashing arrow for a hundred meters or so) and have the voice telling you where to go. Make sure it has downloadable maps so it doesn't cost using wireless internet.
Good enough idea for you?

Similarly to the Google Maps micro on Wear? I could get down with that!
Love the idea, can't wait to see it in action!

On my Eonon GA-2114 (800x480), the settings pane is completely blank. Is this a known issue of just my bad luck?

Unfortunately this is a known behavior and won´t fixed by the Here Support. I wrote with them several times. App is optimized to not use in Landscape Mode. Thats the matter. Start a Route, you can set some settings there.
Thanks! Is there a better offline mapping solution for the US? I tried Sygic, but depending on the direction of the wind, I was only able to access countries other than mine.
I tried following:
Navigon - Not Working with build in GPS Chip
Waze - Too Tiny, Only Online
Here - Missing Settings
Sygic - Ugly maps, malfunctions in settings, lose of maps after serveral times.
and others.
TomTom - Crashes with 3G Dongle connected.
I use TomTom with Wifi Stick now (so no crashes) and its working very well. Its for 19Euro per Year... seems to be ok.
You can try the latest google maps. Its able to store offline cards now tow. But i dont like the voice and the style...
Becareful upgrading to new version ..won't start on mine.. But all other devices working ok.. I went back to this version and working fine..

Also on a 1024x600 Pixel Android car hifi the settingspage is still blank. This must be only Software blocking our car Radios.
Has anyone found an App or Hack how to turn around the Screen to Switch the map Location to my external sd-card

General Verizon 6 pro and Android 12

First off, I Love the phone. Hardware is great, Android 12 is mostly great but there are some weird things I've noticed that haven't really been an issue on previous phones pre-Android 12. I got rid of a OnePlus 8 pro for the Pixel 6 pro.
1: I have to use a Bluetooth to 3.5mm adapter (Bluetooth to auxillary input) on my car to Bluetooth to my stereo. Issue is, the adapter is ALWAYS on and when in range my phone is ALWAYS connected to that adapter. Android 12 gives you the option to quickly switch when you're playing music or watching a YouTube video in the volume slider menu but not say when you're playing a Facebook video, Instagram video or similar. The workaround has been to just completely disconnect Bluetooth which interferes with other devices like my Fitbit and such.

2: AOD doesn't come on when it's dark out. I usually get up at around 4am, and of course it's dark in my room. When it's pretty dark, not even pitch black AOD doesn't turn on. It's almost like the phone lacks a proximity sensor and relies souly on a light sensor for AOD. Another scenario was I was out with my family trick or treating tonight, in the suburbs where there was plenty of light and AOD still didn't come on when I pulled out the phone to check the time. Of course this isn't a huge issue, just an inconvenience
3: the lack of ability to set your own lock screen shortcuts. I don't use Google pay, nor do I control devices using the Google home app or shortcut.. it would be nice to set those to whatever I want. To add into that, I do have those both disabled but occasionally the Google home shortcut appears when I click the power button to turn the phone on. If I click it of and back on about 80% of the time it disappears.
I don't want anyone to take these as complaining, just thought maybe I'd chime in on some "issues" I've noticed.

Wifi connection issue with iPhone using hotspot

Hi Guys!
This is my first post here, I wasn't aware of such form until I searched my issue with my android box.
I'm having connection issues connecting my android box to internet using my iPhone 12 hotspot.
It was working perfectly in the past until I updated my iPhone firmware.
Please have a look at my device version.
Do you have any ideas how I can fix this connection issue? Maybe needs MCU update?
Thanks!

i had something similar,
1) ensure maximise compatibility is turned on in personal hotspot on your iphone.
2) You want to remove the wifi connection for your phones wifi network name on the head unit.
3) manually add the network for your iphone on the head unit choosing wpa2-psk as the security.
it should then connect.
issue seems to be something to do with wpa3 on iphones vs the head units.

Hi,
Thank you. It doesn’t work.
I tried another iPhone and it worked.
My iPhone doesn’t have maximize Compatibility. It is iPhone 10 S.
It works on my iPhone 12 only not on the iPhone 11 S.
What should I do?
if you follow the steps without maximise compatibility, does it still not work?
Yes…. It doesn’t work.
I followed the same steps without maximize compatibility but still not working
Is there any updated version for my box ?
Mine is version year 2018
you might want to look at other roms hal9k may be compatible with that head unit.
I honestly don’t know, I don’t have much experience.
What do you mean other rooms?
Can you share with me the link to the other rooms please
i wouldn't know the link to the correct rom (software of your head unit) , if your not experiance in alternative roms i would suggest caution as you do run the risk of bricking(stopping it from working) your head unit. i'd ask around in the forums on what updates you can use.
