Redmi note 8 pro running on Chinese rom - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello, so my friend got a redmi note 8 pro Chinese variant and I want to install pixel experience or atleast global rom but I tried through MI flash tool and it keeps saying Length cannot be less than zero even when the phone is in fastboot mode.
Also when I tried to install with flash_all bat the phone kept restarting again and again.
Which recovery do I install in redmi note 8 pro? Or how do I atleast switch to global rom since MI flash tool isn't working (I've tried every version possible)

Yes the bootloader is unlocked and I've tried every method possible but MI flash doesn't seem to run. What other way can I used to flash global rom on the phone?

By sp flash tool if you want Miui fastboot. But if you do something weird, you will lose your IMEI (A few Youtube guides make you lose your IMEI too) or brick. Or by Twrp (if you not follow guide you maybe stuck at Redmi logo), flash Miui recovery rom or PE+ rom (need miui 12.5.x, need follow their guide or hardbrick). Or you can pm me and i will help. Locked bootloader, stuck in recovery mode.

Hello guys.
I recently bought this phone and wanted to use netflix, but didn't allow me because it outdated and said it was not compatible with my phone. So I did a bit of research and found a post in "mi community" that said it was because phone had bootloader unlocked. The phone was new and I didn't change anything of it, but I found the bootloader was unlocked.
Installed fastboot and adb drivers, locked bootloader and got myself into a... Brick?
-I can still load into fastboot.
-If I turn on the phone, It tries to load android but loads Mi-Recovery 3.0 instead. Recovery also says "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device"
I'm so lost from this point, I need to know if there is a way to flash any rom, and which one do I need.
Thanks in advice
stuck on recovery
Most likely a chinese phone that came with global rom. If it came with global rom try flashing chinese rom and then unlocking bootloader and reflash global. Do not lock bootloader after flashing global.

Try searching for tools below which might help.
Saki / XiaomiADBFastbootTools
XiaomiADBFastbootTools-6.5.1-Win
I had hard bricked mine and had to take back off and use EDL to revive.

I don't find the way to reboot (via software) to EDL from fastboot, is still possible to access it by opening the phone?

If you can flash global ROM. I think you just need to unlock bootloader and then flash China ROM once you have unlocked bootloader.
China ROM link below

It lets me flash de global one, but when I try to do the same with chinese rom, it says the version is lower, so I can't "downgrade".
It's weird because according to version number, the global one was a few versions lower
Solved the issue
The same issue , i was also encountered , After Flashing with "Xiaomi_Mi_Max_3_V10.2.1.0.PEDMIXM_20190226.0000.00_Global_9.0" Mi Max 3 with the MiFlash20191206 tool , by default the tool used "Clear data and Lock".
The tool saying "Flashing" and my phone got rebooted and went to MI Recovery 3.0 and also i got the message as
"This MIUI version can't be installed on this device".
I am not clueless how to proceed. So downloaded the Chinese version and again i tried to flash with above tool. Now tool said that "Can't Erase Locked" phone.
So Now i connected to Miflash_unlock with fastboot and connected to mi account and again i unlocked the phone.
Now my phone automatically booted to the Global version.
So i hope the issue is selecting the option as "Clear data and lock" . We need to select only "Clear data" in the flash tool.

Hi there,
I encountered the same issue. I tried to flash some CN Rom without enough research, without knowing that you can't just flash an Android 10 rom from 9 directly by recovery (even TWRP). So I ended up Fastboot or TWRP but never able to boot into system. Fortunately I didn't flash my Max3 by fastboot rushly, so my phone was still unlocked.
This is how I solved it:
1. Download an official CN ROM (the below I used is MIUI 11 with Android 9.9.x);
I can't post link here but search "miui通过线刷升级" - you shall see a miui.com link ending with shuaji-393.html. That's the page I download the Mi Max3 ROM from.
2. Use MiFlash to flash the official ROM with the flash option "clean all", NOT "clean All and lock";
3. The phone shall reboot into system, give it 5-10 minutes;
4. Flash the miui.eu ROM you like (DO make sure it is Android 9 tho) by recovery (tutorial given under every official xiaomi.eu ROM download).
Again it's easy to search
It took me less than an hour to do it (I don't have much experience with new XiaoMi phone). So don't worry about bricking your phone forever.
Hope it helps to destress
Hi guys. I need some help too because I'm not totally sure what I have to do here so if anyone can give me some tips I would appreciate it.
I just ordered the 128gb 6gb ram version of Mi Max 3 and it might come with the global rom and already unlocked. Should I use the Mi flash tool to install the file MIUI 11 V11.0.3.0.PEDCNXM android 9 fastboot file? then after that installs I should lock the bootloader and then unlock it again myself with my mi own account? I just want to make sure that this is the correct way to do it.
Also after it I unlock it should I flash the newest xiaomi.eu rom with android 10 or do i have to do something else first? Thank you

Buying CN version with Global Rom!!

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying mi 9 se in Lavender Colour but they only come in CN version so we thinking of getting with Global Rom. So...
Will this have Google play, Google Pay & NFC.
If not what can I do to get above?
Many thanks
Everything works, all Google services available within the Rom
Only Themes not available for download, it gives Error.
Be aware of some lte bands which are missing compared to the global version. For example band 20. It depends from your provider which bands they use for 4g if you will have file lte speed...

Everything Works, but You can't keep bootloader locked of you have a Chinese device.. you will need to flash Rom via TWRP or Mi flash without locking the bootloader if you will lock the bootloader you will get a brick device.

Thank you very much for your responses!
Do you have a tutorial or link which I can follow.
Thanks in advance
My Pleasure, just Unlock bootloader by using MiUnlock you can search it using Google. Once device is unlocked Download the Latest Fastboot Global rom (Make sure it is of Mi 9SE (Grus) ) , Roms file Name would be xx.tgz like this, you will need to unzip the file and flash it using Miflash App... Make sure you should not select CLEAN AND LOCKED option in the Miflash.. use Clean only or somthing like that..Once the file is flashed..you will get the Global Rom but eith bootloader still unlocked

The device I'm getting already has Global Rom installed but my main concern was Google Play and Pay would work? Also NFC & Band 20?.. If all works then that's good..!
I've also read that it's better to put Miui.EU Rom, is that true?
How to install Chinese Rom I installed the global version but I marked the option to
I'm having problems with mi 9 if it doesn't load, I checked the clean and block option.

If you came from china rom, you cannot simply flash global rom into it. You need unlocked bootloader first. Im afraid your device its bricked, you need to flash china rom back through edl mode and also need authorized account to do that.
Try install Chinnese Version

Can I flash another region ROM?

I have the IDXM version of the phone and it's still on miui 12.0.1.0
Is it possible to flash the EEA version or will it bootloop?
Yes, but don't lock bootloader. If you lock it chances are it will brick your device, as it did on previous phones... So choose clean all option in miflash, not clean & lock!
I bought the EEA version of the phone but wanted the Global version .
This morning I used the Mi Tool v2 to convert to Global with no issues,
It even works on locked bootloader,
The tool is quite intuitive and lets you convert to all different regions.
I believe you only run into issues with Chinese phones and ROMs but could be wrong.
It did stop at 4.99% for a while when applying the ROM but after few mins it flew.
You also need to back up your data as it will be lost

Worked for me on Redmi Note 10S. But maan, was it scary... It got stuck on 5% as yours but also the pushed file size went past 100%, resulting in negative 300s ETA...
Having had bricked devices using only stock utilities (and not even unlocking BL), that scared the crap out of me.
Also it gave en error after the process actually finished (at 6,7GB out of 2,4), but the phone was already running global version of MIUI just fine.

Relock RN8PRO

Greetings ALL.
1. I have a Redmi Note 8 Pro. Purchased 2019
2. Always been *GGEUXM (from * = P to now Q)
3. Immediately after purchase I used MiFlash, waited x days, and UNLOCKED my BOOTLOADER
4. Loaded TWRP - but it seemed to be always overwritten by Stock Recovery for some reason
5. Never ROOTED .... just UNLOCKED Bootloader
6 lnstalled up all my apps etc.
7 Numerous OTA updates - now on MIUI Global 12.5.2.0 Stable (RGGEUXM)
8 Recovery is STOCK XIAOMI
9 NEVER loaded any CUSTOM ROM.
Q: How can I RELOCK BOOTLOADER without losing data? Is it possible?

-Why you need to relock? Relock you cant fix anything yourself, your warranty go away already.
-Twrp overwritten by stock you can fix by in TWRP press Reboot>Recovery and after reboot in TWRP again it wont be overwritten.
-Or you can just use this custom twrp: MOD EDIT: Link Removed. Just go in fastboot and run File 1.FlashBRPMiuiA11Unified.bat and it auto install and boot to twrp. This custom make by Redmi note 8 Pro Offical Telegram admin (Santosh)
-Never use lock but i think you can lose all data
-Flash the rom for region you buy. China phone use china rom, India phone use india rom,... and use Mi Flash Tool chose Clean and lock (I just hear about this, better youtube for instruction, this one can brick your phone if do wrong)
Thanks for replies.
I want to RE LOCK BOOTLOADER to go back to STANDARD setup. No custom ROM. I just want Google Pay and Netflix to work. As I said, I have unlocked bootloader and have never rooted.
