Screen off while calling - Redmi Note 9 Pro (International Model) General and

My phone is strange. Screen goes off when starting a call.
Also I have to disable the "pocket sensor" as otherwise I get a message that screen is covered.
I think the "close to head" sensor is dead. But I would expect that screen doesn not go off - but here it is the oppsite. Can I do something to avoid that behaviour?

try cleaning the earpiece grille, especially the right side of it

Constant Notification Popup in Call

So whenever I make or receive a call, after I take the phone away from my ear, the notifications window is open. It's become quite annoying to have to click the OK at the bottom of the window for EVERY incoming or outgoing call once it is done. I assume my ear is touching the screen so that it pops up. Any way to disable this?
Thanks.
check if your proximity sensor is working. To do this, try the following:
call FI yout voicemailnumber, wait until it is connected and put the phoneon its back. Then move a finger towards the microphone on top of the phone. When your sensor is working, your screen should turn black. Removing your finger gives you back the calling screen.
So apparently my prox sensor isn't working, as when i completely cover the top or bottom of the face of the phone while i'm in a call, the screen doesn't change at all. Any idea if I can do something to fix this without a hard reset? Would be irritating to have to reinstall all my stuff just to get this to work.
do not have a clue how to fix that, but a hard reset will be the only way to prove if your prox sensor is defect or not. Why not make a backup of all your data with Sprite Backup and then hard reset. Sprite is doing a great job in backing up and restoring your valuable data

end call and always land on the notification screen

everytime im done talking on the phone, the notification scren (att/battery grey screen) shows up, then i have to tap close in order to get back to the call screen. any idea why? or if there is a fix?

i have the same issues,I think this has to do with the proximity sensor, you end up tapping the top of your phone with your ear before it realizes to shut the sceen off, and im not sure if this is due to the bt/proximity issue or just going in and setting the proximity to be more sensitive, will do some playing around and post back

How to keep screen on when answering the call

Using Desire for months and everything prefect except one thing. Sometimes I need to press the button on the screen after some system message which need to be heard first. When I put the screen on my ear then its off. I can use the headphone sometimes but not always. I believe its because of the sensing function but cant find the place to turn it off. Could anyone who can tell me how to keep screen on when answering the call? Thanks in advance.
The screen goes off due to the proximity sensor, but it should be back on again when you take the phone away from your ear.
This definitely works for me, though I can imagine that if you have your hand close to the proximity sensor it could cause problems.

Dave
I tried again and notice that, sometimes the screen can come back but after long time waiting, but in most case it cant. I am not sure the position where the sensor located. I am using the zagg invisible shield screen cover and not sure if that caused the error of the sensor. Anyhow, is here a place to turn this face sensing function off?
PS, after I cleaned the screen cover then it seems get better response time to show the screen after move the phone away from my face. But still not rapidly as normal phone with keyboard and influence the using experience. So if there was a option to turn this face sensing feature off then it could be better.
I found this link where some one who had the same issue found it was related to their Zagg protector, but on the same thread there are others who have had no such problems.
The proximity sensor is in the top left of the screen, within the black border. circles - see here.

Dave

[Q] Phone Call Proximity Sensor

Noticed recently that When a phone call is in progress, the screen will go black no matter what and to get it to come back i have to manual hit the top power button.
I first noticed it with energy rom. When autobacklight was enabled, their was no getting back to screen at all. Disabling autobacklight at least allowed me to get the screen back after clicking the power button.
I switched to core cell rom and noticed the same issue, however, i can manually turn the screen on again even if autobacklight is enabled.
I have no further problems with the proximity sensor, just this one.
Is their perhaps some sort of proximity app that i could use to diagnose whether this is a hardware problem or software problem?
Ok, I had a similar issue, where the phone screen would turn off as soon as the "send" button was pressed, and the only way to turn it back on was either hanging up, or waiting till it felt like coming back on.
My proximity sensor was stuck "on". I could see the sensor status in the registry (don't remember offhand the reg entry, but it's a live reading of the sensor, 1 or 0). I installed "Proximity Sensor for Screen Off v0.2" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624206
That was a mistake on my part, though... then the screen wouldn't come back on! It took some real finagling to get the screen on.
To fix it (temporary? permanent? dunno...) I waved a small neodymium magnet over the sensor (near the ear speaker). I have no clue why that worked. I don't know why it stopped. I *definitely* don't know if that's the issue you are having. But it's worth a shot
I've never had this issue after many different iterations of the Energy ROM.
Do you run Task29 when you flash ROMs?
Yeah i always task29. I don't believe it is the rom since i have tried another rom and the problem persisted. I tried the magnet idea but it didn't work. It was a refrigerator magnet though so i didn't expect it to. Anything else that requires the prox. sensor to work, has no problems and that is why this is weird to me.

On calls (touch)screen is disabled and won't turn on until call is terminated

When I make or receive calls the screen turns black and the touchscreen is disabled. I assume this is to avoid accidental keypresses with my ear or something, but my phone doesn't leave this mode until call ends.. I assume it would switch on screen/touch when leveled horizontally, but it doesn't.
I cannot end the call or do anything while the screen is disabled.
The only thing that works sometimes is to double press power button to turn on camera (thus enabling screen/touch), but it is no reliable method.
Sometimes, if I call a person not taking the call, without mailbox or automatic termination of connection, I have to reboot to phone to end this.
Any idea what I can do? Can this supposedly helpful behavior be switched off or fixed?
I am on Android stock 8.1.0 (OPM6.171019.030.H1, Aug 2018), rooted with most recent Magisk.
This bug is driving me nuts, so Thank You for any ideas or help!
Is there anything blocking the proximity sensor (below the right of the speaker)?

Not that I know of. All is as normal as can be.
But right now, it seems the "trick" with the camera double click works more reliably (>50%) than before. Whatever reason..
If you've had the phone apart recently ... check proximity sensor. There's a little rubber piece tends to fall out.
Did You applied a screen protector recently? I had the same issue because of screen protector was covering the proximity sensor
