General Google defends the Android 12 ‘Internet’ QS panel, details future Pixel Feature Drop tweak - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Some potentially interesting information. I might still want to tweak the QS with or without root, but I'll give it a chance, especially if they improve it further.

Suggestions/Request for new features

Hi Devs and Modders for SGY ROMs
Many users have suggestions for a better user experience in custom ROM and i thought why not create a common thread for users to suggest features that they feel is important!
My suggestion:
Please include the feature to adjust the screen brightness by swiping the notification bar as found in some devices. It'd be really handy when one has to adjust the brightness while using any application. It makes it hassle free from going to settings or homescreen widget to change the brightness.

OEM skin/software

Are you comfortable in your own skin? Is your phone comfortable in its skin? Rate this thread to express how you deem the skin on the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it adds just the right amount of features, it's visually pleasing, and overall it's additive to the experience. If this is a Nexus phone (you didn't think we hand-wrote all of these prompts, did you?) then use this rating to indicate how the latest version of Android looks to you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
i really wish you got more control of what you have on the phone. Sony includes software that you are free to download if you wish with no way to remove it, some not even able to disable.
Coming from Motorola's very clean software to this was a bit of a shock. this is really my only complaint about an otherwise superb phone.
It runs android 8.0 but it's more like android 7.5 as it's so bare-bones that it's literally missing stock features. No ambient display, always on display, double tap to wake/sleep or screen-off gestures. Sony didn't even bother updating the notification shade colour or the power menu. There isn't much in the settings menu either. The theme engine isn't powerful enough in my opinion as it just changes the wallpapers, icon theme and nav bar icons while keeping the system UI the same.
One cool feature is how you can change the lockscreen clock. Unfortunately, an am/pm indicator is enforced if you use 12-hour time and the indicator is placed really awkwardly on the clock widgets. If you look at the promo pictures of Sony phones then they always run it in 24 hour time but have the time being in the morning (e.g. 10:30 am) so you can't tell that it's 24 hour time. It's like the people in charge of the press renders know how dumb the am/pm indicator looks but the person in charge of designing the clocks just refuses to get rid of it for some reason.

If you're not cheap, buy some Substratum themes which themes the whole phone and apps. You don't need root if you're on Oreo. Also, Always on Display would surely kill the battery on an LCD screen. I love their bone stock software, if I needed something I can just download it. The less bloats the better!

Oreo number of rows in quick settings

Hi,
can somebody please tell me how to add the 3rd row of quick setting toggles in the Oreo update like it was with Nougat?
I've tried Oreo for the third time now but several things simply don't work anymore or got worse in comparison with Nougat.
I could live with a few of those but only having two rows of quick setting toggles is definatily not one of them.
I tried gravitybox (it's missing the option to manage the vibration strength of the virtual buttons and the battery tile now has additional text which takes up all the space so the temperature part isn't visible anymore.)
Furthermore I had to buy a substratum theme to not vomit from the white quick settings panel. With the march security update the installation is now as tedious as with Nougat due to the forced reboot.
The Xposed module HowGiveLolli doesn't work anymore and the centered normal letters instead of all upper case was a real nice feature.
Why are the points in the settings app regrouped so it's harder to find specific settings?
There are simply so many bad design choices in my eyes I can't bring myself to live with Oreo due to not finding substitute functions for the missing ones.
Kind regards
I know you posted this last month so you hopefully figured it out, but either way I thought I'd share the answer since someone else might want to know in the future.
It has to do with the display scaling in Settings\Display\Advanced\Display Size. If set to default or large, you only get two rows of quick settings. If you set to small, the UI shrinks and as a side effect you get three rows of quick settings tiles. You can always increase the font size afterward if it's too small, but reducing the display scaling is the only way to have enough room to display three rows.

Thanks for posting the solution. I simply restored my Nougat backup as I never upgraded my bootloader for that matter. I don't think I'll be using Oreo until I get a new phone which possibly can't be a Moto Z3 because I'm not really convinced they will release anything more than the Z3 play.

Hi and thanks for this trick : as a matter of fact I was always on "small" in Nougat and it worked nice with 3 rows, but with Oreo I needed to switch to "smaller" to switch from 2 to 3 rows :silly:

General XDA Article: Android 13 DP1 has new quick settings tiles, including a QR code shortcut

https://www.xda-developers.com/android-13-dp1-quick-settings/

Android 13 DP1 has new quick settings tiles, including a QR code shortcutGoogle dropped the first Developer Preview for Android 13 on Thursday, even though we’re still waiting on the release of Android 12L. There aren’t many new features in the initial Developer Preview, which is par for the course every year until we get to the Beta releases, but there are a few changes worth highlighting — like the new quick settings tiles.
Esper highlighted the changes in DP1 in a blog post, including the new quick settings tile for scanning QR codes, which some manufacturers (such as Samsung) have offered on their versions of Android for years. Even though the button exists in the Android system, the actual scanning functionality does not — tapping on the button calls on an external application defined in the system’s “device_config” to open the scanner. This will presumably be Google Lens on most devices (it’s disabled out of the box in the current Developer Preview), but it’s easy for device makers to swap that with their own scanning apps if needed.

There are also a few other new quick settings tiles in Android 13, though it’s not clear yet how many of them will actually show up outside of developer/beta builds. One of the is a tile that displays the currently running foreground services in a popup, which could help developers, as well as tiles for toggling color correction and Android’s one-handed mode. The one-handed mode dates back to Android 12, and usually requires a gesture or Settings open to turn on and off.

Android 13 Developer Preview also includes new privacy features (such as an updated photo picker and new Wi-Fi permission), themed icons, language controls, and updated developer tools. Google expects a stable release to be ready sometime in July, with a full release arriving after that. Check out our coverage of Android 13 Developer Preview 1 for more information.

Themes / Apps / Mods [ROOT] Tune saturation, white balance and enable HBM on your Pixel!

[BIG UPDATE]
User Adrian got inspired by this and created a Magisk module to make things even easier and without the need to keep apps running on background, check it out!
GitHub
Hey!
I'm in love with my Google Pixel 6 Pro, however, I don't like the screen at all, I wanted to be able to customize how it looks.
Been looking for a way to modify how it looks, CF.lumen fixed the white balance, Sa2ration changes the saturation of your display, you can decrease it all you want, or make it as saturated as you want.
All this apps should/may work on other devices too.
CF.lumen - Apps on Google Play
Adapts your screen's colors based on sun's position, sleep pattern, and sensors
play.google.com
[ROOT] Sa2ration - Apps en Google Play
Alterar su saturación en Android Oreo (descripción leída!)
play.google.com
[Paid app, HBM to use the max brightness of the device without auto brightness]
Enable HBM in app and then enable and disable auto brightness in phone settings, not app settings, that way you will have the absolute maximum brightness of the display, you can enable on the app settings restore hbm after screen off to have it at max brightness always. *There is a QS hbm toggle too*
High Brightness Mode - Apps on Google Play
See your screen in bright sunshine. High brightness mode for your phone
play.google.com
For CF.lumen, enable location, set permissions for the app and do the following:
1 - Location, tap to update or input manually any location, that's only to avoid crashes when manually changing white balance, disable location after that if you don't need it.
2 - Master filter mode, custom, there you can modify RGB values to your taste, I use 0.955 on Red, 0.975 on Green, 1.000 on Blue, but feel free to try until you enjoy how it looks.
Now, for Sa2ration, after installing, simply move the slider until you like that you have, if it does not change, use the setting "enable color management" it's kinda glitchy and may requiere it or not on your device, I use 1.10, really like how it looks!
[Bonus, under developer settings, you can fully hide the display cutout, I also recommend to set the dpi to 410-430 with or without cutout as it will make some landscape animations a single slide instead of two, try pulling down notification panel when landscape mode, try all animations 0.5x too, you may like how it looks, if you see an app crashing disable developer settings as it may create issues like that sometimes]
[Bonus 2, try Iconify magisk module, you can customize your Pixel with that, even enable pure dark oled theme, thanks to Facundo Holzmeister from @howtomen on tiktok!]

Updated again, now with a Magisk module created by Adrian that will make things even better!
Installed the Magis module. There's no user interface for it?

Hey, the only way to customize it is to use the service.sh file and modify it before flashing. That's all I know so far.
