Hello,
I think that it's not possible without unlocking bootloader. The unique solution is to enter in edl-mode but this is more dangerous than unlock the bootloader. Unlock bootloader is very simple and not dangerous, you are just going to loose all of your data but with a backup this is not a problem.
Root is not necessary for that, if you need help to do your downgrade with bootloader unlocking tell me !
I'm here if you have any question or if you need help !

Flashing via EDL Mode only works with unlocked bootloader!
Unlock Bootloader will erasing all data (reset system)!

I don't now the link but I can explain you the process.
/!\ This will erase all of your data !!
1) Enable developer options by going to Settings > About Phone, scroll down to Build number and tap 5-7 times to enable developer option.
2) Once you enabled the Developer Options. Returned back to Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging and OEM Unlock. Just Enable there options.
At that time you have 2 option, official option and non-official version.
- Official Version,
This method require some days because you have to ask xiaomi to send you an unlock code.
You need Windows it doesn't work on Linux.
1) Go to http://en.miui.com/unlock, click on Unlock button on the webpage now you have to login and then proceed to tap on Download Mi Unlock from the resulting page.
2) Now, proceed to put your Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite into Fastboot mode by powering it on while holding Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously. Hold until you see your phone is booted into Fastboot mode.
3) After the successful login, the validation process will start on your phone, and for the first time, you will get a message that “You don’t have the permission to Unlock the device”
4) Now click on the “Go” button or use Go to MIUI Unlock page to receive the unlocking permission.
5) Now click on the Unlock Now and log in with your Mi account details and fill all details.
6) You will get OTP for confirmation use it to complete the process.
7) Now wait until your application gets approved, you will receive the OTP password on your phone number once it’s approved.
8) Now Open the Mi Flash tool click on unlock and pass the two pop-up. Your device will be unlocked
Non-Official but simple version :
1) Proceed to put your Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite into Fastboot mode by powering it on while holding Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously. Hold until you see your phone is booted into Fastboot
mode.
4) Download Miniamal ADB and fastboot in you are on windows, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
If you are on linux use
Code:

Trying to Root and Install Custom ROM

Edit: Issue resolved
Hello everyone,
Pardon my lack of knowledge on rooting devices and all the related things. This is my first time attempting to root a device and I am having a lot of trouble understanding how to go about things. Through my research, I'm finding a lot of different ways to do things and I want a direct opinion on my process so I don't mess up my phone. (Through as much research as I could) My end goal is to have TWRP flashed to my phone, root my device and install a custom ROM. My understanding is that I first need to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, install SuperSU, then flash the custom ROM. I won this phone from a raffle and I'm trying to root from a Windows 10 laptop.
I have the TWRP and SuperSU files at the ready and have also installed Kingo root. I enabled USB debugging and allowed the bootloader to be unlocked in developer settings. I tried to boot into download and bootloader and successfully recognized my device, but when trying to use "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-hima.img" it gave me the error message "FAILED (remote: cannot flash this partition in s-on state)" and "FAILED (remote: 9 RU_SECURITY_FAIL recovery and bootloader isn't BL_UNLOCKE)"
I'd assumed my phone was already unlocked but that's obviously not the case. Doing some more research I found a lot of people needed to get a bootloader unlock from HTCdev.
Is this what I need to do now to continue?
What about this "s-on state" how can I turn it off?
Will unlocking the bootloader wipe my device?
Could I just use the "root" button in the Kingo root main app?
Can anyone verify my theoretical steps and give quick notes on how I should be doing them properly?
Any help is greatly appreciated
dont worry i will help you
Download all in one Android toolkit for your PC...

Question fastboot flashing unlock fails: unknown command

I am trying to unlock the bootloader of the Poco F3 in order to root it.
I installed the platform tools present in the apt repositories (OS: Pop!_OS 20.10), this is the version I installed:
Bash:
$ fastboot --version
fastboot version 1:8.1.0+r23-8
Installed as /usr/lib/android-sdk/platform-tools/fastboot
Then I did this:
enabled developer options, USB debugging and OEM unlock in the device's settings
turned it off and then on again in fastboot mode (holding power and volume down buttons)
connected it to my PC through USB and then ran the following commands but when I run fastboot flashing unlock I get an unknown command error
Bash:
$ fastboot devices
████████ fastboot
$ fastboot flashing unlock
...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.000s
Am I missing something here?
I read somewhere that I should install device specific drivers but I couldn't find any for Linux, what do I have to do?
You need to use mitools to unlock the bootloader. Search some videos of how to do it. You will need to wait 168 hours after finish the steps.
Is that actually the only way? According to this guide mi tools isn't required. I read that it only acts as a wrapper of fastboot so if I can I'd rather use fastboot directly and avoid setting up an account just for that.

One Way : Mi Unlock Tool
No other way than Mi unlock tool......yet
Oh alright, Mi unlock tool it is then, thanks for the quick help!
It's purely so Xiaomi can limit people to unlock bootloader so that you don't get companies bulk buying devices falshing custom firmware and selling them as other phones for more

that guide is wrong flashing unlock would work if the bootloader didnt need a special img file as part of the unlocking process.
the miunlock tool simply does the downloading of the img file in the background once you have waited the mandatory 168 hour wait period.

Fairphone 4: Unlock Bootloader (Official)

Not being an Android-Expert, it wasn't quite obvious for me how to unlock the bootloader of the FP4. Although there is an official guide from Fairphone on how to prepare an FP4 to be able to unlock the bootloader, the crucial part to actually unlocking is missing. Perhaps it's obvious to the average Android-Enthusiast, but for me it certainly wasn't ;-)
This guide shows how to unlock the bootloader of a FP4, as it is intended by Fairphone. So it's kind of official; yet I'm not related to Fairphone.. I just own a FP4.
1. Backup personal data
Unlocking the bootloader will also do a factory-reset of the phone. So a backup of personal data is required.
2. OEM unlocking
"OEM unlocking" must be enabled for unlocking the bootloader. There is an official guide on how to enable "OEM unlocking" for FP3 and FP4:
Bootloader Unlocking Code for Fairphone 3 - Fairphone
Instructions on how to unlock the bootloader of your Fairphone 3.
www.fairphone.com
Just follow through the guide an come back afterwards.
3. Prepare USB-Debugging
Connect the phone via USB-Cable to a PC and enable "USB-Debugging" under Settings->System->Advanced->Developer options.
On the PC you need the Android SDK Platform-Tools ('adb' and 'fastboot' command), which can be downloaded here:
SDK Platform Tools release notes | Android Studio | Android Developers
Android SDK Platform-Tools is a component for the Android SDK.
developer.android.com
If everything is setup correctly you can open a terminal and run the following command:
adb devices
It should print out something like:
abc123 device
4. Actually unlocking the bootloader
Run this command to restart the phone and get in fastboot mode:
adb reboot bootloader
Your phone will shutdown and then show a screen which says at the bottom "device statue - locked"
Now, the bootloader can be unlocked with the following command:
fastboot flashing unlock
Follow the instructions on the phone-screen and the phone's bootloader will finally be unlocked... also a factory-reset will be done, thus deleting all personal data.
I wish I had this guide, when I got my phone, so I hope it can now be helpful to someone else
i have leared calyos has a builtin bootloader unlock. they make it super painless.

Question How to go back to stock MIUI and re-lock bootloader?

My Poco F3 is Global, but I've heard people say that re-locking global results into a brick. Is this true? I want to go back to stock MIUI and re-lock my phone.
Read this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-flash-a-stock-rom-alioth.4355797/
Yeah you can download a Fastboot ROM from xiaomifirmwareupdater.com & flash it through Mi Flash. By default Mi Flash will lock your bootloader.
But be careful to choose the right ROM for the right region & that the USB connection is stable.
Flashing ROMs is dangerous. Speaking from experience ...
Actually l unlocked Mi6x bootloader but didnt installed/flashed anything. It has China ROM. How to re-lock it?

"fastboot oem lock" in fastboot mode locks the bootloader.
This will also wipe your phone, so proceed accordingly.
Thank you! Worked perfectly

HI,
I would like to relock the bootloader on my Xiaomi Mi9T Pro and it's not a problem to lose the data because I changed my phone and transferred everything.
I already turned off find device and signed out Xiaomi account.
I just boot the phone in fastboot mode and digital on command prompt "fastboot oem lock"?
Does the phone restart by itself formatting everything?
I have the original ROM, TWRP and I don't have root.
Let me know if I've forgotten anything.
A thousand thanks.

Yes, you can do that. The phone does everything itself after you enter the command.
Also remove your password. I don't know if it has any effect on anything but I remove it just in case.
You'll need to go out a number of actions in order to restore stock MIUI and lock the bootloader on your Xiaomi device. Please be aware that depending on the precise model of your Xiaomi gadget, these instructions may differ somewhat. If you follow them wrong, you risk bricking your device or encountering other problems. Be sure to move cautiously and pay close attention to the directions. Here is an overview:
Backup your data: Before continuing, make sure that all of your vital data has been backed up, since the operation might delete your device.
Download the MIUI stock ROM here: To locate the stock MIUI ROM for your particular smartphone model, go to the MIUI website or the Xiaomi forums. Your computer should download the ROM.
On your Xiaomi handset, go to Settings > About phone and repeatedly touch on the MIUI version to activate Developer options. This will allow USB debugging. Then, enable USB debugging by going to Settings > Additional settings > Developer options.
Unlock bootloader (if locked): If the bootloader on your device is locked, you must do so first. Visit the Xiaomi unlocking page and follow the steps there to accomplish this. Please be aware that removing the bootloader will erase all of the data on your device.
Install ADB and Fastboot: Install the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) and the Fastboot software on your PC. The platform tools are available for download from the official Android developer website.
To enter Fastboot mode on your Xiaomi smartphone, turn it off, then hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time until the Fastboot logo appears on the screen.
Connect your device to the computer: To connect your Xiaomi gadget to the computer, use a USB cord.
Flash the MIUI stock ROM: Go to the directory where the ADB and Fastboot utilities were installed on your computer by opening a command prompt or terminal window and selecting it. To see if your device is recognised, use the command: Continue to the next step if your device is listed. If not, check to see if the right drivers are installed.
