i rehoused me xperia play and when i tryed to turn it on i just got the blinking red light, so i bought a new battery that worked for 45 mins when it overheated to 47degress then died so i bought a external battery charger and the battery charges but when i put it in it overheats and dies in an hour and when it charges it gets even hotter and dies faster..... does anyone know how to fix this cause i cant afford to buy a new phone anytime soon

well the same thing happened to me..
i rehoused my mobile. but when i was closing up the phone, without putting in the back housing, i tried to switch on the phone so i would check if everything was fine or not. But what i did wrong here was that i just inserted the battery in wrong direction. Negative to the positive and vice versa. Nothing happened at that time, and the phone did not turn on. Upon realizing my mistake, i tried to power on my mobile again with the correct battery connections but this time the phone just wont turn on. There was a weird red light that started blinking and the phone just wont turn on.
so i completed the housing process thinking that maybe that was the problem and there was some sort of a sensor or something but that damn thing just wouldnt turn on. even if i put the mobile on charge it wouldnt turn on. so what i did was, i again opened up the back of my phone, deliberately put the battery in wrong position, tried to switch the phone on, and then i put the battery back again in the right direction and as i press the power button, walla, the phone is alive again.
BUT...
its getting HOT. damn HOT. after only being on for about 5 min, the battery got hot to 54C. upon inspection. i found out that the battery is not getting hot, but its the motherboard that is heating up.
i went to the service center, which opened up the board and found an IC that was damaged (caused by my battery mistake).
Found the IC from china. Ordered it, and TODAY it arrived. I will be going back to the service center, for replacement of the IC. If all is OK, i will let you know.
meanwhile, check out the pic of the IC that got damaged on my mobile during the process of rehousing and my stupidity.

just now, after connecting the new IC, the phone has started working again. its NOT heating up. Everything is working fine..
EXCEPT
that now my phone shows no signals. In the settings when i search for other networks, i find many other networks also (MEANING THE TRANSMITTER IS WORKING FINE) but the phone just wont connect to my network and wont give me any signals.
I only get "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY" status.
I am actually getting fed up of this set. Anyways, i hope u get the IC, and your phone works fine. ( I HOPE )

I did the exact same thing and have the same problem, but the difference is when i try the reverse method it still doesnt come on but cud i get a link to where u found the IC
The problem here is the same IC from the picture. Even though I found the replacement IC from China, I still couldn't get my set to start up normally without overheating. If you remove the IC from the board, the phone will start (even without the IC) but you will get no signals
For me, I was unable to get the phone back to its working condition. So I sold the phone as it was.

But mine wont start at all now, any suggestions? I dont really care if it will get signals or not.

By inserting the battery in reversed position you probably caused some sort of short-circuit. You probably didn't burn only IC, but many different parts. When the part is damaged and short-circuit exist in it it heats up very very quickly as the current on this part (any many other parts that are connected with it) is very big (this also causes very quick battery drainage). So it means you had probably burnt the mainboard even if the phone switches on, so getting new mainboard is the only sollution to get the phone fully working (as I think you aren't proffessional who can diagnose and repair it. Neither do I ).

Hello all I too have an xperia r800i play with the same problem or better the battery under the battery becomes very hot in a few minutes, and drain the battery quickly. Moreover, even when you plug in the charger not charging? only shows the loading icon but then not charged and only the LED flashing red?
And you can not start the phone FASTBOOT? because the LED flashes blue and then turns on a second phone in the normal
how can I do to fix?

i have the same problem.
i tried isolating a pin from battery (the midle one) and i got it to work without heating, i thought it was fixed but then i took the battery back out and overheated again maybe theres something wrong with the pins any alternatives?
i did the same thing my phone is in the fridge now i boosted the battery by usb with bare wires got it started up hoping to get to 50% charge then try a reflash see if that works
i was using my HOX then, it was frozen and non-responsive, then forced reboot and stuck on the "ONE" screen, finally it shut down and won't start again or charge (LED won't light up) the device is completely stock
tried different cables to charge it from PC but nothing happened, not even detected by the PC's device manager :crying:

Try to hold power button while your device is connected with charge. Will resets the battery.

Man, same problem here with my HOX! it was off then i rebooted it around 5% battery now. but just wont charge. tried multiple charges. USB/AC. nothing unusual like freezing or hanging. just completely normal.

hi there! first of all i want to apologize as my english is not perfect.
now the story, i have this problem for 3 months now. nothing helps to permanently fix this. it started one day, my battery runned out while i was surfing internet, phone switched off as it does normally. i did put in on charger (original) but no charging light came on, i checked it after few hours but no light where there, phone was dead! i didnt worry to much and just left it there over night to charge, but in the morning i found that red light is still not on, not charged and completely dead. i did every method metioned on any forum- holding buttons, pulling sim out combination nothing helped!!!! my HOX is rooted with custom rom and latest HBOOT version. i were so dissapointed that my warranty is void. then i decided to take phone apart, take battery out and measure its voltage with multimeter, so i did that and battery was 3.18v. so i cut USB lead and charged battery up to around 3.8v that was wery tricky to do as HOX's battery have odd connector, after that i did put every thing together and phone turned ON, i did charge it normally to 100% which measures 4.2v in APP. calibrated battery by deleting batterystats.bin file. next day battery went flat, and exactly same thing happened again. it must be something wrong happening when phone swithing off by it self, it does not switching off completely that causing it not reacting to butttons. SO i think if i put in freezer for 10-15min it will kill the battery and cut power to phones PCB (eq = battery pull) because any button combo is not = battery pool. so i wrapped it in cling film to prevent condinsation and kept phone in freezer for 15min. do not attack me with commets like "cold temp killing LI-ion battery for ever" i dont care i dont want to hear any of these stuff i did what knowing that, cuz there is no real solution to this problem! it is sounds like crazy! i know! im am russian so im used to do crazy stuff ) after i took it from freezer my HOX felt like ice.. hooked up charger and WOALIA!!! red light started to blink = battery to low to swith on. after half an hour red light came on persistant and my phone swithed ON without problems. after few weeks i replaced battery with other one but no joy! still same thing, i used to do this for months because sometimes i wasnt able monitor battery and turn phone off manually before it reaches 1% charge. I did not experienced any battery life shortening (at least i didnt spot any serious life drops) I SUSPECT THIS IS SOFTWARE RELATED PROBLEM, SO PLEASE IF ANY DEVELOPER OR ANY ONE WHO IS KNOWS WHAT EXACTLY CAN CAUSE THIS, PLEASE LOOK AT THIS CASE. IT MIGHT BE A SOLUTION OTHER THAN MINE!! cuz in the end it sux putting ur phone to freezer
NOW - solution! kind off..
when u did my methot if it worked for you of coure.. you need APP from Playstore - LLAMA location profiles. in LLAMA app you can create action based on event. se lets make event BATTERY under x% and create action for that - POWER OFF PHONE! set delay for 2min so u can stop ongoing event once u on charger and ur battery is less set %. I did set it for 5% and 2 min delay just to be on safe side. once battery reaches 5% charge action is created after 2 min, and phone turns off. dont try to power it ON!!! if u did by accident, just turn it off once it booted! dont ask me for help using LLAMA it is not complicated as it looks, play aroud with charged battery, experiment. u can add additional actions like play sound + screen on+ vibrate+ power off. if that helped u press thanks button as this text took me whole hour to type

could you please tell me how did you charge the battery?
My one X surfers from this, if it runs down to zero, it refuses to start, I've found leaving it on charge a few days and booting into the bootloader then doing a restart from there, boots the phone back up. Not great, but it works actually doing it now, it's been dead a few months, and I need a backup phone as I'm about to try cm10.2,4.3 on my note2,so the hox is getting charged.
I always suspected clockwork mod as I have a similar issue, with my note2, if my note runs to zero, the charger light doesn't show, but Does charge as once booted light returns and percent shows. Also my note won't boot with the power button alone, I have to bootloader then restart. That why I thought it was a clockwork issue, bit the above poster was on stock.
Anyhow is there any updates to this thread or anyone know of a solution?
i've sent the device to htc maintenance and they told me that i have to replace the board for 270$ !
POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once did it for me!!!!!! It works
Hey Guys!!!!!!!! Freezer for 10-15mins? Not for me thanks. For days my phone won't charge or power on. So i went for the hard reset/reboot method ( POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once) did it for me. When you reach the Reset/Reboot mode be very careful not to choose Factory Reset mode because you will erase everything out of your phone. Choose the reboot mode and the phone should restart. And when my phone started again it was 80% charged. Just can't work out why it went dead. But hey it's alive and kicking now. Remember ( POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once) did it for me!!!!!! It works

it goes fine until 40%, above that or stops charging or is really slow, like 1% in one hour.
i thought it was a rom issue, so i flashed the original rom from sammobile
the charging at this moment is 56%, 150mA average, when isn't negative - 200
this is stock usb and charger, and also with other charger/cable is the same

I was just searching the forums as bought mine yesterday and have a similar problem, mine got to 56% then stopped charging. If i turn off the tablet it does start to charge again so will fully charge with it powered down and see what happens.
soon i'll be testing another charger
you can see the charging voltage on the galaxy charging current available on playstore
most likely i will use warranty

Pop the back off gently and disconnect the battery from the main board. When you reconnect it, let it charge up fully before turning it back on. After this, it will behave normally for the rest of time.

Thanks for the reply but it seems my issue was caused by a faulty outlet socket. The socket works fine for everything else but would only charge the tablet when it was powered down. Tried charging off my laptop and desktop usb and it was the same, but tried some other outlet sockets and they charge fine. I understand the usb outlets might not provide enough to charge the tablet but hadn't considered the socket as I know it works, must be just enough high resistance to prevent it charging a working tablet but provides enough current to charge it when it's powered down. The fact it was showing a 56% charge was just co-incidence.
Thought it might be worth posting this as it's not something I've come across before.

Here's the thing. When mine was misbehaving I could get it to start charging again by switching outlets or even reversing polarity on the wall plug. It was a temporary fix as within days the problem would be back. I thought I had it fixed so many times. It always came back. If it happens to you again just remember the above post. It's been four months since I did it and never once has it been quirky. Something in the hardware needed reset that only disconnecting the battery could do.

It's the faux leather thing you pry off. Keep the angle that you pull on the cover shallow and work it slowly.

with no other solution i did too pop the back off gently and disconnect the battery from the main board, now it's working OK, let's see how long

hoping this works. I just filled out a warranty email today for same issue on 12.2 Tab Pro. It pried the case open with a credit card. Very slow, took about 7 minutes. Pulling the power cable in the middle, probably behind green tape. Use needle nose pliers or something small behind the wires and pull up. The pins are tiny and will f*ck the whole thing up if bent.
I get the feeling that the screen turns itself on even when eye tracking settings are off or closed in case. I hear the annoying sound at night when charging. Why Sammy does not have a smart current sensor built in is insane. Asking you to unplug when most people will leave on and charge overnight. Just dumb.
I can't get past 57% charging for last 2 weeks. Stock, unrooted for first time in a long time, so I am pissed to hear ROM had not effect. This is likely undocumented hardware issue Sammy doesn't want to admit to.
even on my T325 I had the same problem but I solved it this way ...
I have worn the battery completely until turn off my device, I loaded the battery overnight to device OFF.
wipe and install rom custom samsung
I launched and used app "battery calibraton" (root)
I have now done 4 cycles of charging to 1600/1750 mA

There is no need for physical interventions on the hardware, maybe someone does not know in depth the behavior of lithium ions

Perhaps not, but I and MANY others have encountered the same problem. Across multiple Roms, fully discharging and recharging, running the so called calibration apps. Rebooting, unpluggin, replugging. The problem NEVER fully went away. It would work for a charge cycle or two or three, then would reappear.
I finally took the back off, unplugged and replugged the connector., closed up the case, charged it for several hours before turning it back on.
Not ONCE has the problem occurred since that intervention. That was over a month ago.
Maybe it's not lithium ion behavior, it might be in the charging circuit and hardware.
If you have a suggestion, then by all means share it so others can solve their problem.

I've already written how I solved the problem, but in 5 years and dozens of Android rom installed on various devices, this problem for me was very frequent.
Always the same. On my ST325 I solved like other times in the past.
No news I found on this battery, battery charger of the same problems since I know Android

for this device I've tried all the roms available (CM11 or not)
the problem is very acute especially after CM11> Pro Plus V2, but the problems had already occurred some time with the various installations buil CM11
about a week I did the operation described above (already done in the past even on my previous samsung device, Note 1, Galaxy s4, Galaxy Mega, Galaxy tab 3 g3 ) with the same result ...
The battery charges very quickly with the device ON to 1700 mA (monitored with "Monitor battery widgwt pro")

My phone won't boot unless it is plugged in via wall charger.
If I got it to boot while charging, it instantly turns off when I unplug it even with battery at 100%.
I am able turn to go into hboot mode(power + volume down), even when it is unplugged. But it dies if I access recovery. I am able to perform "show image crc" function.
The problem started while I was using the camera and it just turned off by itself.
I was on SROM at the time when the problem started.
I managed to change ROM to SD, and even used lollipop RUU(verizon), but the problem wasn't resolved.:crying:
What do you think? Am I right to assume this is a hardware problem?

I have same problem!
Bump. I have the same problem too. Seems to have come out of the blue for an otherwise functional phone. Can't figure it out.
I'll add that I can get into twrp and it seems to function without the charger plugged.. But otherwise, if the charger is removed, phone dies like OP.
Anyone can help?

Try to flash a RUU and if you got the same it should be an hardware problem...

Did you resolve the issue. I heard it could be the battery failing, but i'm not so sure anymore, because when i run antutu benchmark my phone shuts down when using fisheye image processing or 3D, it turns off even when it's plugged in.
I suspect it's the GPU failing or something similar. That is weird since i wasn't using any intense 3D games. I'm sure this is my last HTC.

I don't know if you managed to solve your problem, but in my case I replaced the battery and now the problem is gone. So defective battery is the reason in my case. I replaced it my self which is quite a task but not so hard, you just need patience and time. So if you have time to reply me, please do, as i would like to help.:good:

Hey Gunman84, my phone is behaving in a similar fashion as the OP. I have an AT&T phone converted to a GPE. So everything is stock in that sense. If plugged in, phone operates normally. As soon as I unplug it, a couple of seconds later it will power off. If I boot into hboot, the phone will stay on for a long time (its been an hour+ already and its still on).
I watched a youtube video showing how to replace the battery and that was pretty intimidating - haha. Where did you get your battery replacement? and how much did it cost?

Hi, it's not so intimidating . Well you just need to be careful and patient, there are lots of small resistors, connectors and so on. Check the iFixit site for proper instructions here is the link https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+%28M8%29+Teardown/23615 this is full teardown, and here is 2nd link where they focus mainly on replacing the battery https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/HTC+One+M8+Battery+Replacement/41650. I'm from Slovenia, and the battery cost me 20€, which is around 25US dollars, the battery was original one. I bought it from local supplier. It took me around 2-3 hours to replace it, or something like that, that's because i wanted to be careful.

The phones behavior really makes me question if its the battery. For example, it stayed on in the hboot/recovery screen for 10+ hours (without being plugged in). So the battery can definitely hold a charge.
I'm afraid to open up the phone (and potentially break it), when there is potentially something else going on (maybe a software issue). I guess if I run out of ideas, I'll have no choice but to attempt the battery replacement.

Well in my case i could also stay in recovery mode(TWRP) indefinitely also in bootloader mode, that's because you are not in the operating system. The graphics are not running at that point and so on, it doesn't drain that much power at that point either.. It's a different story if you try to flash a rom in aroma, at that point the phone shuts of if not plugged in. It is the battery, trust me.

For the adhesive parts of the phone. When putting it back together, did you need to reapply more adhesive?

Nope, no additional adhesive was needed in my case. I used the hair dryer to soften the original adhesive. The speaker grills were difficult to remove as they are glued quite well, but eventually they came off. The toughest part was separating the back casing, as you do need quite a few prying picks or guitar picks.
Just be careful with the motherboard, slowly remove the tape that covers the connectors, you don't want to rip apart any flat cables. And don't throw away that tape, you will need it.

Well if yours symptoms are the same as clemdaddy has, then yes. Sorry, but at least now you know what the problem is.
Got the new battery today and performed the phone surgery. All the connections looked good. Pieced it all back together and everything works BUT the new battery won't charge. The phone is running off the battery, so the connections I made must be correct. Running off the battery the phone no longer exhibits the symptoms I described above (so this most likely confirms my previous battery was the culprit). I tried the hold all buttons for 2 minutes to re-calibrate the new battery. All that did was made the phone now display a full battery (instead of the empty battery it initially showed).
On the weekend I'll open it up again and see if I missed something.
Got the replacement battery. Re-opened up the phone. This time I over heated the upper and lower panels which caused them both to warp a bit, and one of them to have its paint bubble :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
I replaced the new defective battery with the most recent one. Put the phone back together and it is back to normal again! Also probably because of the over heating, there is now a little bit of a rainbow effect on the lower part of the LCD screen!
A real pity the first battery was defective, causing me to have to re-open it and carelessly overheat it. Otherwise the 1st attempt would have been a flawless repair!
With the warped panels, the bubbling paint and now the rainbow effect on the screen, I wonder how long I'll keep the phone. These little things are definitely bugging me... If I get rid of it, I'll really miss my google edition htc one m8! Nothing like a nexus like experience with a remove-able microSD card. Such a thing no longer exists
For no apparent reason my phone just froze, I restarted it and got a black screen, pressed volume down, power and home and it goes into ODIN MODE, the light blue screen, where it says DOWNLOADING, and nothing happens, if I press cancel in the previous screen it foes into "recovery booting..." and nothing then goes black, has it really died ???

not good, it was lasting like half of a day under regular use, was charging twice a day most of the time, the phone was in 50% when it died, what I'm really angry about is the fact that I have taken care of this phone soo so much, no falls, good case, etc... but I guess it finally quit on me ?? Could there be a program to make it boot ? or wipe it or something ??
If the battery failed it likely won't have enough current to boot even with the charger.
Once an Li battery is degraded it is more likely to fail. A swollen battery is a failure.
Replace battery, make sure it's charging and go from there. While replacing the battery check for loose connectors. Give it a good look over.
Then see what you got. Bonus, replacing the battery gives you a hard reboot... if it boots.

thnx but I think it's not the battery it was at 50% when it died, I opened up spotify and it froze, I waited and then nothing it was totally frozen, so I did a hard reboot by pressing the volume power home keys and then nothing, it won't star anymore, but it still goes into download mode, if it was a bettery problem it wouldnt even start into download mode, it hink

Download mode uses less power. It takes substantially more power to boot... lots of apks loading and system activity.
Try it with the charger connected after leaving it charge for 3 hours. Does the battery get warm while charging?

Well yesterday it finally started booting up, but then shuts down, it takes reallly long for the Samsung s7 logo to come up, sometimes the att&t logo appears, sometimes it doesn't, then it "shuts down" but the blue light on the top left stays on always, today the light finally died (I'm guessing the battery finally died) so I started charging it and the changing animation appeared !!! but then after a while, gone and now I got a red light on the top corner that wont turn off, well I got myself a brand new Galaxy a52s 5g, I guess my hand was forced, but I would still like to recover this phone, do you still think it's the battery ?

I don't know. May be a hardware failure. Take it apart, examine for loose connectors, replace battery and go from there.
A reflash may fix it if that doesn't work. Parts are cheap for this phone now as are used ones. As long it's supported by your carrier as 4G VoLTE*. AT&T makes the switch this Feb 22, 2022.
I have a S4+ that's not in use, I always liked the S7+. However my next upgrade was the N10+ as I had always liked the Note series. I jumped 5 years... talk about future shock
The battery in the S4+ has a removable rear cover secured by a cam screw. It is a LCD display vs the S7+'s AMOLED display and harder to remove battery. The good news is since it's not an LCD you can use anhydrous isopropyl alcohol to aid safely in disassembly without worrying about poisoning the display.
