Anyone else notice the phone also got super snappy and smooth all the time? I tried turning on show refresh rate an hour ago just to find out the phone never go back down to 60hz.
I tried not touching the screen untill it actually auto lock, opening youtube, netflix, tiktok, chrome, settings etc etc. I even rebooted and no change. Battery life has been slightly better which is kinda weird though.
Also i checked twice, the force peak refresh rate is turned off.
Try clearing the system cache.

I just checked my phone (updated to .037), and the refresh rate is still dropping to 60hz whenever there is no input, so the adaptive refresh rate still works on my end.
My phone is dropping to 60 when there's no input as well. I just played a YouTube video and it went to 60.
On my device i have the exact same problem. As you already described, it is "always" on 120hz - it only jumps down to 60 Hz for a very brief moment, then again reaches the 120hz. This cicle is repeating itself as long as the display is turned on.
I already tried disabling all overlay services and other settings that could, as far as I could think of, have an impact on these behavior, like apps that have access to usage or device controll etc.
But as for now, I don't have a solution for this.

Officially it's only a rollout in the USA and Canada, it will come to the rest of the world with the December update (or you manually sideload it, as I did).

So my battery life has been average, nothing great but nothing terrible. Today I noticed the battery was draining quicker than usual and the phone was slightly laggier and warmer than usual. I looked at battery usage and "Android OS" was at 70%, when seemed abnormally high. I clicked on that and 'total CPU' was at 13 hours. Anyone have any suggestions? I uninstalled some recent apps and my brightness has been relatively low throughout the day..and I've restarted the phone a couple times. I also heard Android OS often can mean some Google services too.

That is insanaly high but i feel your utter pain bro..
My best advice is to try and restart the phone. Try and also remove the battery charge it fully and then just leave it for couple hours with the phone locked and display off.. Are you using NFC on location high, wifi and bluetooh all those battery eating goodies if so turn them off?
Try those suggestions and let me know how you get on. If you still having issues i tell you the next stage to the diagnosis (hopefully) which is what I i done lol..

Well, right now my phone is charging. Android OS is down to 55% which is still way too high. I've already restarted the phone a couple times and just uninstalled Chrome Beta since that was my last app I installed and I figured it might have been doing something. I use WiFi a decent amount but I almost always have NFC and Bluetooth off (and Auto-Sync when I'm not charging). I have location on "battery saving mode".

Hmm, Right that seems to abnormal the next stage is to hop on to the Play Store. Download and install an app called 'Greenify' this all go through your system to see what is running that takes a lot of apps and directs you to stooping/disabling them...
On a side note is your brightness level set too high or is it on auto brightness try set it on 40% if you can...
I can't really say much more at this stage? Try those up and report back

Well, it seems to have sort of fixed itself. I woke up this morning and "Android OS" usage was down to about 15% and the CPU Total and Keep Awake time reset also. On a side note, I got great battery life today by turning off Google Now, background data, auto-sync, location, and keeping brightness at about 35-50% (which I usually do anyway).
That's really good glad it's sorted it self out keep an eye out on it and keep me posted coz I had more to suggest but hey ho
..

From what I know it lowers the CPU clock speed and decreases brightness. All with the intent of saving battery.
I read that while it DOESN'T limit the CPU, it does lower the brightness and cuts out your data/BT/location/NFC in order to preserve the little bit of battery.

I don't think it actually does any of that though. I have been using it a lot the past few days half on half off. I still get all MMS and emails right away plus my photos are syncing with google. My brightness doesn't change (auto or not). plus I have BT and WIFI on all the time for smart watch and of course data usage . Maybe the processor, but im not even sure of that. Guess I could do benchmarks with it on and off and see. I just feel like this feature is doing nothing at this time. On my nexus 5 I could really see the processor throttle and brightness him with battery saver.

Mine only does that under 15% battery. Seems like its doing nothing over that.

The default is under 15% and when it kicks in, i definitely notice a difference in the phone.
You can change it to immediately from 15% and i bet you will notice a difference at any battery percentage.
Cpu speed is not affected, just checked this.
Brightness was indeed cut off considerably, haven't checked for other things yet :good:
I figured out why it wasn't working for me. Simply clicking the icon to green in the pull down only enables it when it gets before 15 percent. Didn't force it on now like I thought it was.
Why is there so little discussion on this feature? I found very few threads on this and this was the most active conversation even though it is so old. I found out today I could enable this feature at anytime, not just at 5 or 15%. So I have it enabled at 100% battery and testing today. Upon enabling battery saver mode and restrict idle apps, the screen immediately went dim. I turned it back up slightly. I also noticed apps acting different. Toggling between apps is quicker and the animations are gone. Also, I'm using chrome and it's acting different. It's hard to explain, but if I'm navigating from one website to another, it is feels like it is refreshing every time, it doesnt feel faster. Im not sure what it is doing but someone with more experience will probably be able to pinpoint exactly what is happening. It's not standard chrome behavior.

Not sure with the Chrome part of it. I use a different browser. With FireFox everything feels about the same as before.
I also noticed the animations are removed so there is no fancy domino effect or sliding going on. It's all instant and to be honest it feels heck of a lot quicker this way.
Screen is much more dim and is extremely conservative for the most part.
Clock speed is the same. Although I wonder if there is some sort of under the hood change such as MPDecision switching over to battery saving mode. It personally makes no sense to leave it as is considering in the past it use to cap the clock speed.
So using battery saver today along with restrict apps in background, the former definitely shuts down background data. I noticed Google play store not authenticating paid for apps. I had to go to the play store to launch the app and re-authenticate. That is where I received the warning that background data is off. I have a weather widget and that does not appear to be updating as that uses background data. I have a barometer widget and that does appear to be working as that uses sensor data. All that is required to re-enable background data is to uncheck restrict background apps under the battery saver mode. As of right now, I am at 71% battery and 2 hours 14 minutes screen on time, 3 hrs 53 minutes on the battery. I'm mostly using chrome while screen is on and podkicker and listened to about an hour of audio and a little bit of teamspeak usage with my Bluetooth headset. Brightness is at 37% which is pretty dim in this mode. I'd say it's equal to 15% in regular mode bit good enough to see.
Update, I went all the way to 25% battery remaining yesterday and I had right at 5 hour SOT. In my opinion, this mode is not worth the hassle. Background data is off and that breaks a few things. Screen is pretty dim and I ended up turning it up anyway. I have had similar battery life in the past anyway. I have had 7 hours 20 minutes of SOT before without this mode on and all my widgets working. I'm going to leave this mode off.

Hello, I'm a long time lurker and a new member here. I bought this phone a week ago and I have a strange issue with it.
Honestly I have no idea where else to look for help, I've asked in several posts over on reddit and fb to no avail. I'll try to describe the issue to the best of my abilities.
Anyways, I've noticed that when I switch between apps there is a momentary flicker or increase in brightness of the screen. I searched for a while and found that the screen refresh rate drops to 90hz for a moment and goes back up again. I tried setting the display to 60 hz and the issue disappeared. I tried setting it to 90hz with SetEdit and the brightness increased a bit. As if the brightness setting for 90hz mode is a bit higher than 60 or 120 if that makes sense.
I have 2 videos below one in 120hz mode and the other in 60hz. The camera exaggerates the effect a bit but it's visible with the naked eye in low to moderate lighting conditions i.e indoor use.

As for the Hz drop, this is normal when using this phone because it offers adaptive refresh rate (drops from 120Hz to 90Hz when you switch between apps). As for the flicker/brightness change, it does this to me too so I am guessing it's either a bug or just a result of the implementation of the adaptive refresh but can't be sure about that.

It ain't permanent... Just switch to any aosp rom. I'm tired of ****king memeui.
I installed it for performance and convenience of many more features but dumb stuff like this is unbearable at this point. I've tried many more stuff other than this and usually just downloading setprop app and changing user_refresh_rate value to 0 disables refresh rate switching. But only for a while , doesn't survive reboots and locking screen or opening certain blackilsted apps like mobile legends and such that are hard locked by miui at certain screen refresh rates....
Do yourself a favour and uninstall Miui

I've just set up my phone, and from all the videos never seen anyone comenting on the LTPO panel refresh rate. Tested the screen by enabling the FPS counter in developer settings and noticed it never goes down to 10hz. Even worse - always on stays locked at 120hz and home screen locks at 60hz. Is there something I am missing, or is it a bug?

I've seen on other device threads were the built in FPS counter doesn't show the actual refresh rate and only bounces between those two. Can't recall what method was used but there are other apps that will display the proper info.
I see. I read on the Xda review, that it fluctuates between 60-120 so wanted to test and see if thats true, as I would imagine it dropping down to 10hz would be way better for battery performance.
This review is confirming that too. The variable refresh rate is definitely broken...

As I understand it, SurfaceFlinger only sees 60 and 120, but can't see below 60. It is the display controller that sees below 60, so I suspect the Poco X3 has a different display controller than the Pixel 6 Pro. I think the Pixel 6 Pro would have to have a different display controller to allow the the developer options refresh rate to display anything below 60.

Are you using tasker? I noticed in tasker that one of the tasks I had running dropped the display down to 60hz. Either that or it lowered performance in some way.
I am not using tasker the phone is 100% stock don't know why I'm having this issue
The Oneplus 9 Pro was meant to go down 1Hz when looking at static content but no one can verify that, according to GSM Arena.
If the static content can be a GIF image, one can easily verify the 1 Hz claim if the GIF updates only once every second.

yes, i am having the exact same issue.
i reckon it could be due to some app which hangs in the background as i already witnessed that if you listen to telegram or whatsapp voice messages and minimize the messenger app, you get the same issue.

I just noticed, whilst playing around with the Show Refresh option (developer options), that the phone constantly uses 120hz whilst having AOD enabled - shouldn't it go down to 60hz? I know that some people here thought Google would set it to 10hz, but that was debunked a while ago. As of now, only Apple cycles correctly between different VRR modi (Google only does 60/120Hz, Apple does 24/30/60/90/120 as far as I know)
It seems odd that the phone is running a high refresh rate, when only a portion of the screen is running, completely still without anything running on the screen expect a static image.
Hopefully, it's yet another aspect that will get ironed out in further Android 12 updates.
