When I flash roms, my desire wont boot...

Another newbie question sorry... I have successfully rooted my desire as per paul's guide.
I'm now trying to put Pays sparta rom on it but when it has been flashed and i try to boot my phone, it goes to the white HTC screen and then to a black screen with just HTC written on it.... and never gets any further.
If I go back to stock rom or the rooted one, that's fine but I cannot get this or other roms to work.
Am I missing something?
I've wiped to factory defaults, wiped the dalvik stuff etc and then loaded the rom from the SD card.
I'd love to get a custom rom on my phone but am struggling so any help would be massively appreciated.
Thanks!

Did you partition your SD card while in recovery mode just after flashing the rom? That is probably what was causing it.
Try again but remember to partition your SD card before you reboot.
I had the same problem that you are seeing and it's now all ok.
As the first post in the Pays thread says, use AM desire recovery to wipe the various areas and it should then work fine.
I was just being a divvy....
It was taking ages because of the Apps2SD stuff... transferring files to the SD card.
Done and dusted now and loving Pays Sparta rom.

MyTouch 3G (old no 3.5mm jack) - Rooted, but can't install any custom ROMS... HELP

Hi Guys... I'm a rooting / modding NOOB so please forgive me if I'm an idiot about something here...
However I did everything the How To: Root Your Android Phone (SuperOneClick Method) and I'm rooted, I got the Rom Manager running and am able to backup and restore my 2.2 Froyo Rom w/o any issues. Rocks!
But as soon as I get a custom ROM installed (or RESTORED) on my phone, nothing works I'm in the MyTouch boot loop... all I can do is get back to the RESTORE screen and restore my original images... any of them... I have a few now... once clean, one with buch of stuff installed, one with just some apps... all work great once restored. But not any custom ROMS
Am I missing anything? One thing I have not done is partition my SD card.. will that help? Please advise...
Anything will help...
Thx guys!

thats normal after you flash a new rom you have to go through those steps everytime you flash a new rom ..... go through type in all your info like the day you did when you first bought your phone and once you finish setup you will notice the differance..... if i misunderstood you please explain in more detail and i will help
most roms play off of the standard looks and feel of the stock sense. if its a different interface you want try one of the vanilla roms like cyanogenmod.

[Q] HELP Stuck at HTC startup screen

HELP.... stuck on HTC screen... after i rootet the phone.. i was going to install ROM so i did.. but now it's stucks at HTC startup screen...
i have tried power-volum down and then go factory reset.. then i get into clockworkmod and i have tried everything...
can someone please help me? PLEASE... i can't do nothing without my phone :/
Sorry for my verry bad english..
It could be that the rom you flashed didnt download properly, since i gather you didn't make a backup (do, i overlook it often, its a pain in the ass ) your going to have to download another rom and put it onto your sd card, should work than. However, sometimes it may take anything up to 10 minutes max for a rom to load, hope this helps
You can see if a rom files been corupted by the MD5 checksum.
Thanks for respons.. but it did not work..
if you know anything other please let me know, so i can maybe fix my phone
Well i take it you have clockwork mod recovery, in there go to wipe data and wipe cache than install zip, go to the dirctory of your rom and try to install.
if your able to boot your rom in the end, i recommend for any future flashing forays try 4EXT Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161710&page=141&highlight=recovery), very handy.
does not work either...
What rom are you trying to flash and what is your device and have you downloaded another rom to try and flash?
i clicked on a link on youtube and it was for my phone
i have HTC Desire HD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16419842#post16419842 there is the links i have tried.. i tried the ones for my phone desire hd.. but no luck..
i thought since the guy on the youtube vid got it right it should work right for me too.. but it didn't and it was a vid from xdadevelopers
Don't mean to be rude but were you only trying to flash the kernal your going to have to use a full rom specifically for the desire hd as well, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040 for ARHD direct link at http://www.androidrevolution.nl/downloader/download.php?file=Android_Revolution_HD-4G_6.3.1.zip and is around 300mb.
ahaaa.. i just downloadet from the youtube site (A) hehe
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! MY LIFE IS BACK haha
but really thank you!
Glad i helped

[Q] Downgrade from ICS to Gingerbread HTC Desire

Hello Guys,
I am new to this stuff, so can you please help me out. I got a second hand HTC desire with ICS installed on it. The problem is that the ICS version is very unstable on this phone and keeps on crashing which results in me loosing all my data and applications. Can I some how downgrade my HTC to it origional operating system - Gingerbread(2.3)? I tried factory reset but that just deletes all my applications and data. If there is any other way, can you please point me in the right direction? I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance.

turn off the phone and press and hold volume down + power and post what it says in bootloader.
u have ics so that means u should have recovery installed. maybe u can just flash another rom, something that is stable or even a pre rooted 2.3 gb rom. have a look in the development section, plenty of good stable roms there.
try to flash CM 7 GB
most likely the phone has been rooted since it has ICS as rom
