How To Guide [How To] Update Sharp Aquos R6 Outside Japan - Docomo Version - Without Factory Reset - Sharp Aquos R6

It's been said that Docomo phone are easier to update, only Japan VPN needed. But in reality it's not that simple. Even after using VPN, most of the time you wont be able to find OTA update through system update. Sure factory reset can help you to get update, but keep resetting phone for each update is unproductive and bothersome.
And nobody bother to actually write down the detail instruction on how to update Docomo phone (in this case is Aquos R6)
So here you go, the needed steps to update without factory reset your phone.
1. Download Proton VPN, it's Japan server is fast and free
2. Take out SIM card from the phone (it will automatically restarted by doing so)
3. Connect to fast WiFi
4. Open Proton VPN and connect to Japan server
5. Turn off WiFi but don't kill/close your VPN app
6. Go to Setting, type in search field : "Google Services Framework" , tap it, choose Storage, and do Clear All Data & Clear Cache
7. Now search again, for "Google Play Services" , and choose storage again, tap on Manage Space and choose "Clear All Data"
8. Go to System Setting again and change your region to Japan,
9. Now connect back to WiFi
10. Check Proton VPN status on notification, make sure it's back connected to Japan Server
11. Now go to System Update in setting and tap "Check for update"
12. That's it, you will be able to get the OTA update and installing it now.

Thank you for your help. I have succeeded to update to Android 12 for my R6. One thing here, I cannot find where yo change current region to Japan, however, it still works on system update.

Thank you so much. This procedure also worked on R6 Softbank version. It's interesting that after the update to android 12 my R6 drains less battery than before...

hello mate
i have been using docomo fujitsu F52A, followed your guide and upgraded from oldest buil number of android 10 to newest build number of android 11, but after that i could not upgrade to android 12 by the same process, always get ''newest firmware'' on phone though android 12 has existed on Docomo website, any advices ? thanks

I found this after ONE YEAR looking for a solution.
I'm stuck on old version but I'm using a Huawei P30 Pro, locked to DOCOMO and can't upgrade.
I've tried following steps but, stuck on finding " Google Services Framework" , it just doesn't appear there .
Current version is Android Emui 9.1
Please, can somebody help me out? It's been driving me nuts.

Sometimes you just need to try again,
latest update not always appear right away in my case as well. Sometimes the clearing data sequences also matter.
If it doesnt appear, just reboot first and start the step from beginning again.

Google translate is your friend. Lol

I can't find it but I do get a notification on phone (DOCOMO UPDATER) saying there is an update but whenever I try to update it says I need to connect to DOCOMO network. Even with VPN opened.

Hi all, close to ordering an R7 but nervous at the outlay if I then have issues updating, so a couple of quick questions:
1. Should the above work for softbank too?
2. If I have to factory reset, how do I use a vpn service without adding a Google account?
3. I can get a prepaid softbank sim but in theory it doesn't work abroad... However will it still work for these purposes, of the phone seeing its a softbank and updating?
It likely won't he my daily phone but one to use when on trips taking photos, so it's not the end of the world if I have to factory reset to do updates.

Just updated my Softbank Aquos R3 without having to fully reset it from S2006 to S2007. (Previously did a full reset.)
Then updated a friend's Softbank Aquos R2: S1008 > S1009 > S1010 > S1011 > S1012 > S1013 > S2002 [Upgrade] > S2003 > S2004 > S2005.

Thanks for this. You weren't kidding about following all of these steps. Also, apparently my R6 wanted security updates (2) to a11 before updating to a12.

[Q] Google Device Manager not working after update

Since the Update to 1.1 , after reinstalling GAPPS my FP isnt shown in the Device-Manager
i can see it in the Browser unter My Devices but not in the Device-Manager.
Other users told me that it was visible bevore the Update but neither it was possible to get the location of the FP nor to let it ring from remote.
Are there any workarounds, or solutions for this issue?

I managed to solve this by resetting Google Play Services...
Go to System > Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Services
Disable
Uninstall Updates (go ahead with deactivating as Device Manager)
Uninstall updates (again!)
Force Stop
Disable
Clear cache
It takes many steps to disable this thing
Now you can Enable it back.
You should have a Notification saying "App application requires updating google play services", or simply open this link on your device
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms and update
For the following final steps, check the Help pages if you don't want to provide google with too much information
Open the newly updated Google Play Services and enable stuff you need under the Andrdoid Device Manager subsection.
Verify if Location > Access location is enabled...
Hope that works for you, it did for me!

for me too Thx!
After the update to 1.6 the Problem came back but now i cant close Google Play Services because when i want to , it says that it is impossible to Uninstall Play Services because it is an active Device-Administrator..
can anyone confirm this issue or even provide a solution?
thx
I can still locate my device after the upgrade.I also applied the partitioning update, so this may be due my phone losing all its data as part of the upgrade process.
Strangely enough, Play Services is not a Device-Administrator on my phone, nor is asking to be one. Can you revoke Device-Administrator status via Settings>Security>Device administrators?
i did the repartitioning too and now it seems to work

Google Now/Now on Tap not working

So I am from one of those countries where Google Now/Now on Tap is not supported by Google. But I still want to enable it anyway...Need HELP.
It says 'This account is not eligible to use google now'. I have tried all the fix available on the internet but failed. Those are specially not working because they are for lollipop or for previous versions of Android; not for Marshmallow.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP??
BTW, I am looking for both Rooted/non-Rooted methods..
Have you tried xposed framework? I saw that it's available for Marshmallow. It's what I used on my N4 to activate some US-only features because I had my system set to German.

No, I haven't. But I guess that would be a worthy try.. Okay, let's just say it's an option but before Rooting, I wanna try any other possible way.. Thanks..
So it's functional for all of you guys living outside the 'supporting countries'?
I was hoping there must be a way without Rooting... I want to use Google Now, please HELP!!!

Thanks but nothing worked.. It says 'This account is not eligible to use google now'.
I have tried to access US google play store through VPN but it didn't work. And Market Unlocker may work but it requires Root, which I don't want to do this early..
I was searching for a way to get past this too. Finally stumbled upon one after hours of messing around. Worked for me, hope it works for you too.
1. First download hotspot shield or any other vpn app from the playstore.
2. Disable google play services and sign out from your google account.
3. In Settings, go to location and choose "device only".
4. Download google play services from your browser.
5. Start hotspot shield and change location to America or any place where google now is available.
6. Install google play services that you've downloaded via your web browser (Please note that you have to allow installation of apps from unknown sources which can be done in security)
7. Sign in to your google account. You should be able to activate google now under Settings > Now Cards.
8. Once activated, uninstall google play services update that you've installed or disable it again and re-enable it. (If you are able to download apps from the playstore, then you can skip steps 8 to 11)
9. Turn off hotspot shield.
10. Go to apps, search for google playstore and clear data and cache.
11. Now go to google now and select update google play services.
Google Now should work now.

NOPE. It didn't work.. When turning on Now Cards, it is disabled and says 'not available in your country'.
Seems Hotspot Shield didn't work. Probably Rooting and trying would be only option..

D855 Lollipop - Unable to download applications/files/whatnot

Hi,
I've been troubleshooting this issue for over a month now and I'm running out of ideas... I'm having an issue where I can't download anything to my device, it just stuck on "downloading" with 0% in the progress bar but if I'm restarting the device it will suddenly work for a few minutes - so I have to restart my device every time I want to download anything.
I've taken the following actions:
- Factory reset.
- Setting --> mobile data --> verified "restrict background data" not checked.
- Google play & Google services: clear cache, return to older version.
- Checked it on WiFi only/Cellular data only.
- Free space in my internal storage is 22GB
The problem is not just for one application, it will not download updates for LG software and not even regular download from the internet. From what I checked it looks like upload is working at all times.
Software Info:
Android version: 5.0
Android security patch level: 2015-11-01
Baseband version: MPSS.DI.2.0.1.c1.13.2-00002-M8974AAAAABPZM-1
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Build number: LRX21R.A1447078419
Software version: V21a-SEA-XX
I'll really appreciate any help
I'm not sure if you have root, anyway, try to deactivate the google play services and google play store, reset the device, turn off the internet, activate both services, reset the phone again.
If it doesn't work, i believe all you can do at moment is download in the internet an apk named "blackmart", got the same apps in play store.

Thanks for the quick response! Do you think that the actions you've mentioned will help even if it won't download from chrome or from LG update? Your solution seems to take into consideration only Google play download issues. right?
My fault, i thought it was just in the Play store, I don't know what to do then... But i'd try to use Blackmart as i said before, if you have a pc/notebook, download the apk file and transfer to your phone, then install it. Hope it works.
Install uc browser then try to download anything its have default downloader...just try if it works

Tried that, still doesn't work... Marshmallow update seems to be my last chance, getting tired of this phone

Mate 8: easy way Nougat Updates without TWRP: NXT-L29C432B560->..B581->..B582->..B583

Mate 8: easy way Nougat Updates without TWRP: NXT-L29C432B560->..B581->..B582->..B583
Easy way to Update from Nougat NXT-L29C432B560 to higher Versions (you dont need TWRP or root)
Method 1:
Try it on your own risk, i tested it and it worked for me:
You will need Huawei FirmwareFinder from the AppStore
Start Firmware NXT-L29C432B560 (if you on Marshmallow, check xda Forums how to Update from Marshmallow to Nougat)
1. Download Huawei FirmwareFinder from your Android AppStore
2. Start Firmware Finder, it will show you already your Model -> NXT-L29C432 ... choose it.
3. Then you will see all the possible Updates:
4. If you on B560, scroll down to B581 FullOTA-MF, choose it (if you on B581 go to B582 FullOTA-MF ... if you on B582 go to B583 OTA-MF(not Full-OTA) )
5. Select "CHECK FIRMWARE ACCESS" -> "CHECK AVAILABILITY" (if you get the message "Firmware approved for installation" , everything will be fine usually.)
6. Choose IN-APP PROXY and GET AN UPDATE THROUGH DNS -> AUTO (DNS Service and Proxy Service will start, you will see it above in your toolbar)
7. Go to your Android settings -> Software-Update, now you should get a Update message (on B582 i got some strange chinese signs instead of firmware description, but its ok.)
8. Start Firmware Download
9. after the Download is 100% finished, IMPORTANT: Stop the Proxy Service and the DNS Service before you start the Update.
9.1 IMPORTANT: go again to your Firmware Finder App and check again "CHECK FIRMWARE ACCESS" -> "CHECK AVAILABILITY" via LTE/4G or normal WiFi.
9.2 and now go back to your Software-Update menu and start the Update, the phone will restart and install the update.
Method 2 is also easy and even faster but here you will need unlocked bootloader and TWRP...):
check here -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/mate-8-nxt-l29c432b584-t3846120
I followed your directions to a "T" (Method 1). Worked great for me. Thank you!!!!
I was on a freshly installed B581 when i started with your instructions. I messed up my phone, so using DC Phoenix i was able to revive it only with the B133 stock version. No other versions worked for me.
There were few bumps along the way. Few times Firmware Finder acted strange after an update when trying to install the next one. Solved that with a Factory Reset then trying again. Also, few times after an update when checking for the next update, the System Update would download really slow and report "unreliable connection" or something along those lines. My Firmware Finder would freeze so i couldn't shut off the proxy service. I restarted the phone and without going into the Firmware Finder to activate the proxy service again, I just resumed the download normally and it downloaded with regular high speed.
This also worked for the jump from B583 to B584. I used the smaller OTA-MF file. I hope this is of some additional assistance to anybody who is trying this.
Interesting.
Sorry, I am new to Huawei...
If the install job is botched how do you recover the phone?

Will anyone make a Google apps enabled rom for the Mate Xs?

I'm very interested in buying this phone, but not without google apps like Play, maps, etc. Is anyone planning on doing a rom for the Mate Xs?
Does not work (without Root), no way (Backup or any App). And root is NOT possible without Bootloader-UNlock.
It should be possible using this method.

No, using the other method with the backup; the link provided by jutley.
It looks like everything is installed correctly but I'm completely blocked by Play Protect. I've tried factory reset to get a new gsf id and registering that as well but no dice. Seems like the id registering just doesn't work?

english please
can one help us to how to install Google app shown in Spanish YouTube in details in English.
with needed files.
Thanks.
I can try to summarize the steps I think is needed after trying for a couple of days.
(Disclaimer: I haven't actually tried it from scratch but I'm pretty sure these are the only things needed)
(Start at 10. if you already have it working but want to get rid of the errors.)
First get the files from these videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MfxLUNWJr0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEBrOwQP_0o
1. Put the files on a USB stick (Dunno if it is needed, it might be fine to put them on the phone directly)
- (!)The Huawei folder needs to be in the root.
- You'll have 4 important folders, Huawei, Google pack, fix and newfix.
2. Go to Settings/System & updates/Backup & restore/Data backup/External storage/USB storage/17 October 2019 and then press restore.
- Enter the password it asks for (a0000000)
- This will put 2 sketchy apps on your homescreen.
3. Install all apks in the Google pack folder.
4. Run the sketchy app with a purple G and press Activate when it asks you to. Then continue pressing the buttons (really see the video for this) and restart the phone when it fails with the first spinny thing.
- Once restarted you will be spammed with errors, ignore these for now (disable sound, they are super annoying)
5. Revoke the access and uninstall the sketchy apps. It's not needed but I wouldn't leave it enabled for a second longer than I need.
- Go to Settings/Security/More settings/Device administrators and set the G app to inactive.
- Uninstall the G app and the other one as well I assume.
6. Uninstall Google Services Framework.
- Settings/Apps/Apps - search for google and enable Show system processes in the right corner menu.
- I had issues with this on my phone that it would just freeze and restart when I tried it, the solution seemed to be to clear all its data and force stop the proccess until the force stop button stopped being active.
7. Go to the fix folder and install google account manager4.0.3.apk
8. Create your google sync accounts in Settings/Users & accounts/Add an account/Google.
- Follow the instructions as you would for logging in to google.
- (!) Add all the accounts you want to sync now, I can't seem to add them afterwards.
9. Go to the fix folder and install com.google.android.gsf_10-29_minAPI29(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
- Restart and after that everything should work except for a lot of errors everywhere. At this point the fist video tells you to just disable the notifications but it doesn't help for example gmail and you have to do it for every new app you install so it is pretty annoying. The google sync also broke for me after restart.
10. Install the Device ID app from the app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vtechnotm.com.deviceid&hl=en)
11. Uninstall Google Play services - same procedure as 6.
- To verify that you're on the right path the version you just uninstalled should have been version 19.2.75.
12. From the newfix folder install modagain1gsm.apk.
- This is the Google Play services version 19.4.20.
- Make sure the play store still opens, it might show an error but should preferably still show apps.
13. Reinstall Google Services Framework.
- First repeat step 6.
- Install the file in newfix Google Services Framework-com.google.android.gsf-29-v10.apk
14. Start the Device ID app and verify that you don't have any GSF ID.
15. Poke around in the play store until the Device ID shows a GFS ID, see the video.
- This step feels very unscientific and sometimes it took me forever...
- If it doesn't work make sure you have Google Play services version 19.4.20 installed.
- Don't reboot your phone, it should regenerate the ID just by poking around. I got it regenerated when rebooting but then it didn't work after that.
16. You got the ID generated! Uninstall Google Play services and install the file com.google.android.gms2.apk from the newfix folder.
- Verify that Google Play services is now version 20.12.14.
That's it! Everything should work after this.
I'm pretty confident you can skip some steps here, for example you could install Play services 19.4.20 from the newfix folder already at step 3 to avoid having to reinstall once. But I'm also super unsure why all this actually works so I'm scared to change the procedure
Feel free to suggest corrections!
