Android 11 factory images for nVidia Shield Android TV _was_ available from nVidia developer portal - Shield Android TV General

Found it over at Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndr...ld_experience_upgrade_900_android_11_recovery
But as of writing, they're now taken down:
https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?cl=date,-1
Good indication that Android 11 is close though.

https://developer.download.nvidia.com/mobile/shield/ROM/SHIELD_ATV_2017/9.0.0/nv-recovery-image-shield-2017-atv-9.0.0.zip

Anyone tried flashing it yet? One will not loose widevine or other proprietory stuff when unlocking and relocking the bootloader?
Edit: Based on what I find, seems widewine level returns when relocking the bootloader. I don't have any reasons big enough for me to risk anything, so I'll wait for OTA.

It seems wayback machine (archive.org) crawled the site at 15. december. For instance, with the URL provided by @battleofparis :

Super slow though, don't know if you can download the actual ZIP. And how do you verify checksum? Would be a risk of bricking the device.
So best chance is probably ask others for mirrors, or wait for actual official release.

Flashed it, and so far things are looking good. The NAS delay (****ty NAS that spins the drives down) on loading anything seems to cause black screens and out of sync audio in the second try, but it settles down after a third try when the NAS spins the disks back.
CEC features started to work for me, which they never did before (that is Samsung's horrible implementation on their TV's), was shocked when the TV remote started working on the shield, but than i've just lost it randomly again.
Can't say i have more to report to be honest.

@PlutoDelic
Have you observed any difference in playing HEVC video? I've had problems when playing HEVC from Plex for instance, when pausing, waiting until screensaver shows up, and unpausing video, the picture is frozen some seconds ahead of time, and starts moving again when audio/ timeline gets there. Been like this for long. Would be nice if Android 11 solved it. Seems to happen for people using other media servers as well, like emby.

Hard to say, i have that issue with all files and usually blame the slow NAS disk.

@PlutoDelic
I tried remuxing a MKV that was made with MKVToolNix v55 to current version v64. And voila, the freezing issues were gone. So might actually be container related.

anyone with samsung tv's, i'm in the same boat but i have pioneer receiver between shield and tv, maybe that's the solution. for me CEC was working from 6.x firmware upto 9.0.0, now i'm restored on 8.2.2. never had the smallest glitch on cec (well, for me cec is start/stop the device and volume control, but as i pointed, volume is receiver or source==shield or xbox or vuplus duo 4k or whatever i connect to pioneer vsx-930k)

Digital Tv Tuner?

Anyone know if this is possible?
Basically I want to watch live tv on my xoom. I want to pull the signal straight from the airwaves and not use 3g or wifi etc. Anyone know any device that would do this for me? Basically something I could just plug-in and be able to watch live tv?
First, you'll need a tuner (mini PCI-E or USB) Then you'll need drivers to use that tuner, possible that a major tuner mfg could write them but then Google or a dev will need to build them into a distro. Finally, you need an app that can interpret the data received from the tuner.
The likelihood of all of these things coming together is unlikely due to the small market for such a tuner. I, personally, would love it.
TV on Xoom
I realize this is not the config you are looking for, but I purchased a DVR like box called a Vulkano made by Monsoon and basically it goes between your TV and the Cable box (and to your router). It then provides a feed to an app for android (free and/or paid) and tt literally controls your cable box remotely, and you can watch live TV, your saved shows, setup recordings, record to your device, etc.
I've tested on my Evo, Xoom, and A7, which all work.
However, the recent update to 3.1 caused the Xoom version to not work anymore, but the developers said a fix is coming soon.
While I was on 3.0 the HD channels on the Xoom were F-ing sweet!
The box was about $150, but there are multiple versions, and I bought this on a whim hoping it would just do DVR type functions, but went well beyond that.
I've run it over wifi, 3g, and tethered to 3g, and all have worked very well.
Again, maybe not the config you want, but this is nothing short of AWESOME!!
isnt that kind of like "slingbox" and how did you get it to work with 3g?
TV on Xoom
Pretty much exactly like Slingbox (I think, never used it), just cheaper and they have a free App for Android and Apple. There's a paid App version, but didn't bother since the freebie worked good for me. I use it on my Evo and eLocity A7 all the time via 3g and/or Tether. And until the HC 3.1 update I was able to use it on my Xoom via 3g. If you get a good signal or go wifi it will stream in HD, and looks killer on the Xoom. But alas, the developer needs to update it for HC 3.1, impatiently waiting for that!
Also I found that if you record thru the App, it stores it locally on whatever device you are using. I often use it on my PC, and then save it to my NAS drive for remote access later.
Like I said before, I was trying this out as a maybe option, and was totally stoked at what I got for $150, I think the slingbox doesn't quite do all this, and costs like twice as much for the Pro, and you still have to pay $25 for their App.
There is also 6 versions of the hardware to fit your budget and needs.
here you go, pick a channel and watch.

nice find. Not exactly what I was looking for.
I am looking for a dtv tuner that connects to the xoom. If anyone figures this out please post.
They had talked about a version of the Samsung Moment that would do this, not sure if it ever came state side or not. But that could take care of the tuner software side, then you would need a device and a driver, I remember having a winTV device at one point in time that worked in ubuntu with out any extra work...so there's definitely linux support for the type of device.

Live T.V
hey if there is any developers out there .. could you possibly try to get this to work for Xoom? I use to have an archos, and I was able to put live t.v on it .. but the system was modified for it, using URUKDROID.. I'm just wondering if we can just extract the drivers and use the T.V app that comes with this installation???

I own an old dreambox 500. It can stream live satelite signal . Also videos,mp3, remote pvr.etc. it didnt cost me more than 60 dlls. Ita not illegal if you put your smart tv card in this reciever. I can watch my tv since android 2.1 via stream and my xoom can run them without delay. Im trying to buy a dm800 or dm500hd i hear the stream is much smooth

Wirelessly Transmit Android Screen to TV

I am looking for an app that will wirelessly send my Android screen to my TV through my XBOX360 or PS3. I have found app that send specific media on you phone storage, but I want to show everything that is on my screen. Specifically I want to view my Jetflix shows to my TV, which is streaming the media. Or do the same with DroidTV Primtime.
I found this YouTube video that seems to do exactly that, but can't find any actual application information or download information.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0QwWYzzW_8
Anyone have any ideas how this can be done?
Edit: I have searched Google for Android Phone to TV and Internal Sender, which are the only clue I get from the video.
Edit: found that it is AWIND INC company that made the app...
http://www.awindinc.com/news/press release-McTiVia_20110531.pdf
Edit: looks like they make servers, so a media server might be necesarry....?
http://www.awindinc.com/products_mctivia.html
Anyone know of any apps out there that might be able to send Android screen to a XBOX or PS3 wirelessly?
I believe you need a dlna enable TV or if not a dlna receiver plus both your phone and the TV/receiver would have to be connected to the same wifi.

I You can get the Allshare dlna app to play to xbox360 and ps3 without a dlna ready TV. So with the proper app, I thought it might be possible to do the same, but view the android screen instead of just specific media files.

Essentially you want to mirror your phones GUI on a tv screen right?
As far as I know one way is having a pc connected to your tv and then using a particular app installed on your phone & then using the pc's browser to mirror the phones GUI.
The other only works on the EVO (the app is called FullHDMI) but it's via the EVO's HDMI port not via wifi.
Having said that I don't think there's anyway as of yet to route it thru your 360 or PS3, though you may be only to stream the contents. Sorry.
Big time lag!

Yes that is what I want to do. Mainly just so that I can view TV shows that I am streaming on my phone. I can do this with an hdmi contected from phone to tv, but very inconvenient to have to go to the TV each time I want to pause/play or switch shows. "I know I'm spoiled" hehe
I have found I can plug the phone into the tv via hdmi to view content and then install Droid VNC Server to the phone and a VCN client on my laptop and essentially control the phone on my Phone/TV remotely with my computer. This works pretty good. The only problem is the phone is trying to keep my laptop screen "updated" with the TV show and the phone get very hot. So I am looking for a more convenient way to essentially do this.
Not extremely important, just like to mess around with it and see what I can do, and thought maybe someone knew something I did not...
The only thing I can think of would be to get a multimedia bluetooth keyboard for your phone & use that as a remote control.
Basically you connect your phone to your tv via HDMI (MHL adapter) & then use that keyboard as the remote control.
However I cannot speak as to it's abilities and or its limitations. I'm just throwing some ideas out there.
Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Have the Asus Transformer Prime at home as well, and girlfriend + friends might also like to hook up if they want to share anything on the big screen

A Comprehensive review of the Media Link

Intro
To start off I thought I'd do this review to set a few people's mind to rest by covering all aspects of the Media Link. The Media link was included with my contract by Phones4u.
My setup is HTC One X, Samsung LCD TV, 300Mbps Wireless network (Multiple access points) and the media link of course.
Hardware
The unit has a sleek exterior and mounting bracket allowing you to stick it to the back of your TV, the device simply slips in and out of it. There is an LED on the face of the device as well as the HTC logo and on top of the device is a single button. On the bottom are the HDMI port and micro usb power port.

Software
You may already be familiar with the screen shown below, it seems the media link is always in this state when powered, the manual does not give instruction on powering down the device and the button serves as a PBC button and reset. standby and HDMI-CEC functions would have been a great addition but you can't have everything.
The device then has four main functions, Image, video, music streaming and mirroring the phone. The respective app triggers the streaming mode and stays in this mode, allowing you to continue using your phone as usual (All be it in landscape) until you press close.
Music
Video
HD Films streamed from the device look fantastic, buttery smooth, in sync. Very impressed, it looks like it's coming straight from the PC.
Photo
Mirroring
Video takes around 5 seconds to buffer
Music takes around 2
and Photos around 1
The device also supports DLNA and is visible on the network as a streaming device
Also interestingly when the handset spots the media link on the network not only does it trigger notifications (I found them very annoying and turned them off in the app's settings) but even with the notifications turned off if you choose a photo from the gallery it offers to show it on the TV for you.
The youtube app also does this however minimizing the youtube app will put the media link back into mirror mode.
Final Thoughts
This device is fantastic, nice small form factor, very portable, easy to set up and for showing your captured content, streaming music and films it's phenomenal. Now I received this for free with my contract, honestly if I didn't I wouldn't pay £80 for it. As good as it is I already have a media streamer and a fully fledged server that hosts my media, for me to put films on my internal memory to send to my tv is a bit silly, however it's still great for showing friends and family photos and videos I've shot and for that reason (As well as bragging rights, it's pretty damn cool) I'll be keeping it.
05/05/2012 02:35 GMT
Whilst downloading shadowgun and using the media link Battery monitor widget measured around 1200ma drain and the battery reached 51 degrees celcius. Don't know how accurate that is but the phone is scorching hot, overheat LED was flashing too
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Please thank if I've helped you.
Did you try it with any games? presumably it would use mirror mode.

Yes, it does use mirror mode and it does work. I tried out GTA III with it and the delay between is manageable but of course it's very hard to control with the phones screen so a controller is absolutely necessary. I found it stuttered once or twice but overall not a bad performance. I'll try to get some footage tomorrow when one of my housemates is around to use their phone to capture it.
PC Streaming
Did you manage to stream video from PC to TV with and/or without the phone?
Is it working with other DLNA certified devices, e.g. tablets, phones ...?
What video formats are you able to play?

Using the "Play to" function of windows media player I can stream most audio and picture files. With video streaming I can stream .AVI and .MP4 however MKV files don't seem to work. I do Have K-Lite Codec Pack and the files do play in media player on the PC. Media player won't stream Matroska to my WDTV which definitely supports MKV so perhaps media player is the weak link.

Anything the default gallery app recognises, MP4 and AVI has worked for me. I tried to play an MKV using MX player but even in mirror mode the TV mirrors the phone trying to stream so the TV and phone icon appears on both, no video.

1. you must sign into NetFlix & select the "High" quality video settings in your account settings page.
2. NetFlix app looks at the mode that the device is running in, both workspace resolution & app resolution. I set mine to 720px at workspace & 720px for the app resolution at 213DPI using the Paranoid Android rom's Paranoid Settings selections in settings & I get HD video for HD content.
3. NetFlix as well as Amazon servers perform a speed test to determine the best video type to stream. If you are below 15mbps it sometimes will kick over to SD. I usually am at about 40Mbps both via LTE & my home WiFi & I get HD streams there, but at the office it drops down to SD.
Amazon VOD will also work using the stock CM browser. It will also stream HD content if it is setup correctly.
Yeah. I had already set high quality for Netflix. WiFi at home is 20/5 and lte at work is 64/16. Anyone else completely stock with this?

How do you tell if it's playing in HD? Mine shows up in what looks like HD....my home 15/1.

When you start Netflix it usually starts in sd and progresses or "snaps" to hd on all of my other devices I have owned. This one just seems to have a lower resolution and lots of video artifacts while playing. Comparing Netflix between my gs3, ps3, xb360, and Wii I would say that it is equal to or just below the Wii which does not do hd at all
And nexus 7 is much clearer

Oh, like it transitions from SD to HD? Mine, totally stock (UCALH9) from AT&T, seems to start out very blocky, transitions in a few seconds to "SD," and then finally ends on HD about 30-40 seconds in.
Check the attached screenies...it's working here. Do you have any data compression apps installed?
If I do they came on the phone and I am unaware if them
Unsure, then. I mean, it could be a butt-load of things unique to your phone: apps you have, any power saving functions on, etc. Or even some messed up QoS on your router. I had a laggy GS3 and slowly kept uninstalling apps until I found it: mine was a bad widget that needed to be reloaded.
The foolproof would be a reset. Or, if you have another GS3, to compare it. The N7 might well have better WiFi/LTE antennas or something.
This is exactly opposite of my problem with Netflix.. I can't seem to get it OFF of HD and so I simply cannot use it or it just goes through too much data for my monthly plan. Looks gorgeous though!

Havent bothered to contact netflix yet, Anyone experienced this? Have reinstalled, cleared data, etc. No dice

I encourage you to contact them.
I did it over the weekend, and they asked for a short video and asked a few questions. They admitted that the issue lied on their end, as they selectively release updates to a small subset of devices/users to test issues before they go wider - think beta. I think the Pixel C got picked up in this beta and that they will roll out a fix shortly. I'd need to keep updating the app to wait for rectification.
Running Android O DP4, Netflix is working fine.
I upgrade to current Android O 8.0.0 and Netflix is scrambling some, but not all, videos, I get a fraction of a second of full screen then it goes scrambled. I downloaded latest from APK mirror, tried clear cache, clear data, uninstall reinstall, same problem. For example season 1 episode 1 of House of Cards.

Netflix on Pixel C on Or (official Release) Video Scrambled
nigelhealy said:
I upgrade to current Android O 8.0.0 and Netflix is scrambling some, but not all, videos, I get a fraction of a second of full screen then it goes scrambled. I downloaded latest from APK mirror, tried clear cache, clear data, uninstall reinstall, same problem. For example season 1 episode 1 of House of Cards.

I am having the exact same problem. Worked fine up to Android O Beta DP 3. DP4 introduced said problem. I had expected the issue to be resolved prior to official Oreo, but sadly not.

I searched around to fix this myself, and seems I need to report it to NetFlix, but all the guides end up practically nowhere in reality. On the Pixel C Android NetFlix app there is no "report" button, I click to support and it goes to browser, which does not allow me to point to a video.
I can wait for this to be fixed, I have lots of non-NetFlix media I can watch.
Amazon Prime works fine! So seems, NetFlix buggy app on Pixel C is going to cause me to watch some Amazon Prime stuff instead.
I used to have the Netflix app on my Pixel C, but it is gone now. Additionally, it can't be installed from the play store. If I try to install it via the play store web app, when I select my Pixel C it says "Not compatible with this device."
It appears Netflix way of fixing the above problem was to disallow people from using Netflix on the Pixel C.
