Question {SOLVED] Cannot connect ZFold 3 to PC via USB (only charges/no transfer options) - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

When I plug phone via USB into PC running Windows 11 the phone will only charge.I don't get any options on the phone for file transfer and the PC doesn't detect it. Any tips. It's usually pretty straightforward.

maybe a driver problem?

It came down to the cables I was using.
The Huawei cable I use for the 65W charger didn't work. The Huawei cable for the 15W Wireless Charger didn't work. Found another cable in my cupboard (don't know what or where it comes from) but it now works and I get the options for transfer on the Fold and it shows up in PC's file manager.

Thanks for replying. It was a cable problem.Doesn't seem to like Huawei cables.Very strange.

So the Huawei cable ends are Purple and Orange in colour. Both cables don't work for transfer but only charge when plugging into your PC. The cable end which is White works fine.
Just in case someone else runs into this problem since the phone doesn't come with a charger and cable and you might use your Huawei cables and find you can't connect to your PC to transfer files but only charge.

That isn't new. Samsung had before issue where if you used non Samsung cable the Samsung phone will nag about port was wet, when it wasn't. But now it seems Samsung finally got rid of that limit so charging with any USB C works now. But it seems you need to use original cable for phone when it comes to transfer of files.

[Q] USB Charger

Hi,
I've used a USB charger on all my phones for a few years now. Just plug phone in on my desk and no worries. However my new Defy doesn't seem to take a charge from the USB on my network device (it's not a full PC). However my HTC HD2 could get a charge from it so:
1. Is the Defy more power hungry that it won't charge from an ND (I assume NDs put out less power over USB than a PC)
2. Does it just not show on the battery on the Defy that it's charging?
3. Have I missed something simple? I've gone into USB connection and selected charge only. I can't install drivers on the ND though, could that be it? The ND hasn't said it's found new hardware either though.
Thanks in advance for advice
motorola has a notorious reputation on this, they require a usb driver to be installed for charging some of their phones...
i think there's some strange combinations at work about this but, just use a standalone charger and it should solve the problem.
Thanks. I thought it would be that.
Bit short of plug sockets at work but I'll figure something out
Another point to note is that the Defy is very fussy regarding USB cables. A lot of cheap ones will pass data but no charge.

Would you consider hacking a usb cable to make a charging lead? A standard usb lead plugged into a PC will try to enumerate with the PC before it starts to draw power from the PC. However if you hacked a usb cable and shorted the DM and DP lines on the phone side, the phone 'should' detect the cable as a mains charger rather than a PC, thus enabling charge without any drivers on the PC. It would be something like the attachment...
Thanks for all the replies. Although my USB cable wasn't cheap and was capable of charging an HD2 which must be more power hungry than a Defy, it turns out the Defy is really fussy. It's charging fine through the Motorola USB lead on my network device.
My USB loading experience
Hi,
just to share my exp:
- loading with most USB loaders: fine
- My Car loaders and my multi power adaptor with usb can load everything but the defy
- on Computer no problem (some say you will have better battery performance when loading on non Computer: I can´t see a difference)
- cable doesn´t change anything

I've bought a couple of USB cables from ebay. My Defy seems to connect and disconnect when using them, like it has a loose connection. If I use the Motorola one, of course it's fine!

USB Problem.

Just got a brand new Samsung Galaxy SII T989 from T-Mobile this week, it really is a great phone, only I have a single problem.
The phone charges, it functions properly generally speaking (calls, texts, camera, wi-fi,etc...) but as soon as I connect it to my computer it freaks out.
It acts as if I were disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable 2 times a second. I can hear the phone making the beeping sound it makes once you connect it to the USB every few seconds and in my computer (Which is running Windows 8 x64, just in case.) I can see the "Safely remove hardware symbol pop up and disappear a few times a second as well.
This is really frustrating... I love to take pictures and videos and edit them... I'd also love to copy some music over as well...
So far I've determined it can be the cable, bad drivers, or the phone itself, I just hope it's one of the first two.

Try re installing the correct drivers or switching the usb hub. If that does not work it's most likely the usb cable, swap it for a different one and you should be fine considering you bought the phone new.
Or you got a phone with a bad motherboard which would be crazy considering its new but that kinda sounds like the problem I had

Alright cool, but how does one find currently installed drivers when the device isn't plugged in?

Ok, does it get better or worse if you hold the cable with your finger when it is plugged in to the computer and phone and move it around a bit on the phone end? If so, I even got a Nexus 7 brand new from Google that the charge cable phone end was bad and would not make a good connect and I had to use a different cable and it works fine with my tablet.
If you use the same cable in your AC charger and on the computer then prolly not the cable.
It could be something in Win8 if it is trying to scan your USB port [like maybe a whacked anti-virus].
Have you tried a different USB port on your computer to see if maybe the one you were trying to use is bad itself?
If using a USB hub between your computer and the phone try removing the hub from the equation and connect directly to the computers USB port.

I am using a HUB on a Razer Keyboard that I've always used BUT now that you mention it my webcam had the same problem. It wouldn't work with the HUB on the keyboard. I'll try another USB slot (My computer's other USB slots aren't very accessible which is why I've hesitated to try another slot.)
I don't use anti-virus and yes, the cable works perfectly fine on the AC USB to Power adapter it brings.

I love you. It worked. It's the USB hub which doesn't allow much power to go through to the connected device. Thank yo so much.

Pixel2XL can't connect to PC via most of the cables

Hi,
Got my Pixel2XL, love it!
But 1 strange thing, I had the Nexus 6P before and a few cables some that I got in it's package and some that I bought (USB-A to USB-C) all work both for charging and for data transfer (more important for me adb and fastboot) except 1 cable, let's call it ORANGE (since it's color) that only worked for charging.
When I connect my Pixel2XL none of those cables work for data, only for charging! the PC doesn't recognize anything in device manager and the phone doesn't show any option and only charging. that is regardless of the cables or ports and even tried on another PC with same cables. same with USB debugging enabled and disabled.
BUT, when I connect ORANGE it works! now the strange part is that some of my cables are high quality and even pretty good companies like Choetech (if I wrote correctly) and the ORANGE, is some lame cable from Aliexpress.
So I wonder if maybe there are few standards that are supported/not supported on the Pixel2XL? or how do I buy now cables? same was when I tried an older USB-A to MicroUSB with an USB-C adapter.
I couldn't find any official data by Google.
Please assist, Thanks.
No Issues here

Have you rebooted the Pixel?
When I first got mine and I set it up and I finally wanted to copy over my ringtones, my laptop and PC wouldn't detect the Pixel. It would make a ding sound then go back to Charging. I then rebooted for the first time and then it worked.
Ok, seems that my "high quality" cables wasn't so good.
It seems that 1 of them wasn't choetech and the other that I though came with the Nexus 6P was something I got from the store since in those days they provided the n6p with a different charger (they couldn't deliver US plug chargers than)
after I found the box of the n6p I found the short USB-A to USB-C cable and it works both for data and for charging!
Thanks for all the help and everything, it was my mistake and a big learning curve of why cheap cables won't work.
I still wonder how does the phone know which one is good or not.

Connecting P2XL to USB-C to USB-C via motherboard

I can't figure this out... I have an ASRock Motherboard Motherboards Z370 EXTREME4 motherboard with a USB-C output on it and using Win10. I've tried using the P2XL USB-C to USB-C cord to connect my phone to the computer to transfer files. I get nothing that shows up on the phone, yet everything is updated and working on the computer.
Any ideas?
Also as a side note, I have a dozen or so regular USB-C cords. Only 1 actually works just connecting it to a USB port on the computer. Some don't recognize anything, some will recognize the phone and let me transfer files only to have it drop the connection and reconnect to the phone. The 1 cord that actually does work, works as expected. Also this same issue happened on my old PC as well. Only 1 cord works with this phone and everything is updated. I've tried other computers with same issue.
I've also noticed I can only charge my phone with a couple of 120v USB outlets. Lots of them won't charge my phone, even though the phone says it's charging.....just never gains any charge.
I have a pretty similar issue with a C to C connection using my Razer Blade. I have this happen with the OEM cable and a couple of non-OEM C to C cable. I can't remember ever having an issue with my HTC 10 using a C to C, or when I use a USB A to C cable with this phone. While I'm not entirely convinced it's not my USB C port on my laptop, more evidence points to it being my Pixel rather than the port.
It's not the biggest issue for me because it's not a constant hindrance and I can usually get any transfer to finish.
Think I've been down this road... No fix. No idea what is happening or why.
The only option I have is to use my 1 cord to transfer. I usually am transferring several gigs at a time. I never had this issue with same cords for my original pixel XL.
What gets me is I even has issues using us chargers even. They say it's charging but never gain any charge.
Kind of thinking my phone has been defective
Wiped it yesterday and tried again with the OEM USB-C to USB-C cable, no luck even recognizing the phone, even to charge. I did however use a USB-A to USB-C 3.0 cable that didn't ever work originally and it copy 15gb of music without an issue.
I'll keep testing, as well as test it on the chargers that didn't work previously. I will also contact ASRock as I believe possibly my motherboard's port for the C-to-C not to work with the phone. It's not the worst thing not being able to use it, as I'm happy I can finally transfer files at 3.0 speeds now! SO MUCH quicker copying files back onto the phone than when I pulled them off!

Lost usb connection and quick charge after rom update

Hi guys,
I had a xiaomi.eu beta rom installed from feb/18 and i decided do update to the last beta available 8.4.28 through twrp. After that i lost quick charge and my usb connection. My pc (or any) dont recognize my phone, when i plug the usb into my pc nothing happens, nothing new in the device manager. I tried different cables and charges. Cleaned my phone usb type c port with isoprophyl alcohol and a electronic contact cleaner, didnt fix. I decided to do a full wipe, installing a Global stable 9.5.2 do see if it would fix my problem, but it didnt workout. After that i foundout thay i lost my twrp and a generic recorery from xiaomi was instaled. Yesterday i got a update via OTA to 9.5.4, didnt fix it. Now i have a phone with slow charge, no usb connection, no twrp, no root. My only solution now is to find an APk that root my phone so i can install twrp using flashify and try the rom from february i was usong before all of this. Does anyone have/had this issue?
Does this also happen when connecting with other computers?
Yes, i tested with my laptop and my computer at work. Also, my otg doesnt work. I can reboot to Fastboot mode, but i my pc doesnt regognize this way too.
i have the same problem. currently i am on V9.6.1.0.NAGCNFD. and i lost my USB connection to my pc. as well on all QC chargers i have, i cannot charge my device any more. it starts to charge for 2-3 seconds and then stops charging. slow charging via regular usb ports/chargers is the only function left on the built in usb-c port.
i tried various pc's, cables & chargers.

I fixed it on my mi5s. it was actually a hardware problem . after changing the lower board containing the USB-C connector inside of my phone, it all is working again.
the board is available for a couple of USD on aliexpress.
Just wondering - did you manage to fix this problem? I have the same issue - but AliExpress USB-C module replacement didn` help.
Mine is working fine since i replaced that module.
