What benefit are you getting running on Pixel 6 pro, just curious? Since from what I could tell at a quick glance is that most are standard on Pixel 6 pro?
One part I am curious about is the google unlimited storage, was going to use my old Pixel XL to upload free photos at full resolution.

because I didnt get the standard Pixel 6 pro features (Google Dialer features). that's the expected behavior for users from unsupported region.
I'm from Malaysia and had to import my Pixel 6 Pro myself using a forwader address service

Device would be treated as Pixel 3, so I guess there might be more side effects like call screening, etc not working?

Are you absolutely sure of that? I read some discussions over the years and it appears that some time ago, Google "hardlocked" unlimited photo storage via a unique device ID that can't be just "spoofed", meaning this should be a placebo effect that you experience. I've seen people see "oh, the app says unlimited storage! noice!" but then if you closely looked at the actual data that your Google Account has, every upload still counted AGAINST that data, simply because Googles "hardlock" isn't that easy to fool. Meaning it means nothing if the app gives you the "go", you have to check the actual available MB/GB in your GAccount to verify it actually works.

I don't think the backup is at original quality through, its only for Pixel 1. All other pixels are unlimited at compressed size

Yes, youre probably right

Might just setup a replication to my pixel xl, and get that to sync my photos. I am really surprised google aren't all over this and using other exif information to determine the camera
You are correct original pixel was the only model to have unlimited at original resolution, which is why I kept my pixel xl.

Hm, why shouldn't it possible to spoof the device ID on a rooted device?

Sorry in advance for the slight OT:
For a part of a year, while my wife and I were using the Samsung Note 10+ between our Pixel 1's and Pixel 6's, I was using SyncThing on both our old Pixel 1's, kept charging and on Wi-Fi all the time, and on our Note 10+'s. I was just keeping things simple by having the Note 10+'s sync the entire internal storage, even though I had 512 GB on those and only 128 GB on the Pixel 1's, but most of the time I kept them pretty clear, and I had the Pixel 1's backing up in original quality.
It kinda worked, but there was definite evidence that something wasn't working right, or not working right all the time, or any more, because my wife's Google account ran out of space suddenly. She had the "basic" 15 GB and hardly used Google/GMail for anything, whereas I had 19 GB due to free bonuses over the years, plus I'd been using Google as my primary EMail, and Drive as my primary office document service for a long time. My account was getting fuller, too.
So I'm not sure if Google got wise over time, if it worked for awhile and then stopped, or what happened. I stopped using Google Photos completely except for historical stuff for the rest of the time we had the Samsungs. Once I knew I was likely going to pre-order us the 6 Pros on October 19th, I went ahead and bought into Google One's 2 TB plan so I could get the 10% store credit. I'm not positive if I can keep the credit that I haven't used, and downgrade to a lesser plan that I need right now, or if they might adjust my credit if I did that, unless I spend it first.
TL;DR: I gave up and bought in.

I have a feeling it might work and that people aren't following the steps. It literally says on the GitHub that it will not work if you don't follow the listed steps lol. But since I have already bought in, I'm probably not gonna give it a shot anytime soon =)
But heck, if the rumors regarding the S22 line are true (that they will be using Snapdragon chips world-wide), then I might get that phone if the bootloader can be unlocked and then give this a shot, haha.

Does Android Auto work for you?

I've heard Android Auto usually doesn't work on Huawei phones and unfortunately its one of the few things I do need working on my phone. (Not just the App running, but more that is connects to my car successfully)
I'm in the US and will want to make sure Android Auto is functional before I pull the trigger. It looks like it has good LTE band support for AT&T so that i usually the other concern but I'm sure that is going to work fine.
If any of you US folks can confirm Android Auto is working I would really appreciate it, Thanks!
Would be very interested to know this too.
If no one chimes in, I'll be happy to tell you next week when I receive mine, I'll connect to my Maxima SR and test it.

There is a ton of misinformation floating around. Chinese version comes with services baked in. All its missing is google play store and certain google apps like gmail, android auto, hangouts, calender, and others. Its like you installed pico gapps for a rom. Just the basics included. But services and calendar sync and such were already baked in.

If the price is the same and such I'd just grab the global. If its not that's up to you then whether you can stand the differences. I got mine the day of release from a lady who I know that came back from Shanghai that day. She grabbed my phone on the way to the airport for me from a Huawei Shop in Shanghai so I paid release day price of $880 w the case. For me that was worth it given the vendors are charging more on top of that. So I "deal" with the china problems. Notification are delayed but I found a setting that lets you tell it to not kill the background work so as long as I don't accidentally close it myself my apps that are important run in the back ground. You "can't change the launcher". You'll have people say BUT YOU CAN JUST USE GESTURES! but that isn't changing the launcher to me. They will be releasing a fix for that but I believe that affects global and china. Biggest thing for me past that is the notification stuff which I believe I've fixed as so far it's responsive.

I've had a few Xiaomi and Huawei phones in the past so I am fairly familiar with the hoops you have to jump through to disable the weird task killer stuff and get notifications working. But yes, I'd certainly want notifications from apps other than the build in ones to be pretty real time. So I think I'm ok with that.
Can't change the launcher? they block installing of any third party launcher? While not a deal breaker, I am certainly accustomed to using Nova launcher. But if It's being fixed I guess that's ok too.
The only other major issue for me I've had on the Mi Max 3 is Video Chat apps. I use Line and Skype and the other person cannot hear me consistently. Audio keeps dropping in volume and breaks up, makes video chatting unusable. I am able to get around it by using WhatsApp (No idea why that works and the others don't)
Have you done any video chatting on the phone by chance?
How are you making out with the LTE bands in the US? It seems like the band list for this phone covers most of AT&T...
Thank you for all the help.

You can install them and run them you simply can't make them default. I've not done video chatting but honestly I don't like to do it but I'll say if the other cameras are anything to look up to your going to be 100% fine. I get full 4g lte its just missing band 30 but my phone seems to sit on band 2 all the time.

So I don't have netflix as I use plex and such. Youtube lets me watch videos at 1080p60fps and I've actually tried doing 4k ones and it does seem to handle them well. Though you need to be closer to an AP since the transfer is a lot of data. I assume though you mean some paid youtube service or like amazon video which appears to stay low quality. The global is level 1 and china is level 3 for the drm security crap.

No I find some little things like that can be real annoying. I had a P20 pro for a couple months but missed a lot of features that made me sell it and go back to google. He's a photographer and sometimes he's wearing gloves or has muddy hands and doesn't want to handle the phone much.
If you root your phone, you can install a Magisk module called "Active Edge Mod for Pixel Devices". With this, you can customize the action taken when you squeeze the active edge on the sides of the Pixel.
I personally have it set to the standard function (opening Google Assistant) for nearly everything, but if I have the camera app opened it will take a picture as if I pressed the shutter button. That seems like such a minor thing, but it actually is very handy, especially when wearing gloves, or when you only have one hand available to hold the phone.
I'm going to assume this is too much for your friend, but I just wanted to post that there are some unique features available.

Question Who's Going From OnePlus to Pixel 6?

Been with OnePlus since Op6. Getting my Pixel 6 Pro tomorrow. After the reviews and some user comments I don't think I'm going back.
I would like to have it, not as a replacement of OP9P, but as a second device. Unfortunately, it isn't available in India.
If I didn't already a 9 Pro it looks interesting because you gan get 512GB.
Maybe the Pixel 7 Pro next year.
Was there really a need to start another thread on this?
Google Pixel
Is anyone here thinking of replacing their OP9P with a Pixel 6?

No.
I'm switching, but my order should arrive around 1/12/2022 sadly
I'm going to Pixel6Pro and trading in my OnePlus8Pro. But, keeping my OnePlus9Pro!
I was going to buy the 6 Pro but after reading lots of reviews, I think I may buy the OP 9 Pro instead, especially now that it's on sale.
Display brightness and custom ROM support is a huge thing for me.

Just got back from T-Mobile.
I bought a OnePlus 9 Pro with Magenta Max plan (netflix, free data, etc) for $85/month including all fees (after $10 corporate discount).
They had Pixel 6 Pro too, not in stock, but for sale. And were offering $600 trade-in on my Pixel 3 XL which was a pretty darn good deal. But in the end the OP9P just had more of what *I* wanted.
Gonna probably miss that camera on the P6P though.
Probably also gonna miss Google Fi's voicemail to text and web browser texting on my computer!
edit: text-from-web-browser is a feature of Google Messages which is apparently not tied toGoogle Fi.

Well I'm sure it will get better with updates but actually the pixel6's camera isn't looking too great out of the gate. https://www.phonearena.com/news/Pix...s-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-Camera-Comparison_id135852
Also, if you use windows 10, you can always use the baked in "your phone" app to link your Android phone with win10 PC and receive/send all text messages and not even need to be in a browser. You can also set what other apps you want to see notifications on your PC from your phone. Oh, and make phone calls if you have a headset with mic.

Oh geez, my first regret at going to T-Mobile OnePlus.
Do I seriously have to "SIM Unlock" my OP9P phone before I can root it?!?
I thought only Verizon & AT&T gave a crap about root.
What a PITA.
90 minutes on the phone with T-Mobile, first person said she'd help me but then she accidentally hung up, second person said she wouldn't help me, third person said she'd email me in a few days with a form to unlock the SIM.
I'm not going to another carrier, I just wanna root!
Never had to do this on any Pixel before.
I checked eBay and everybody wants like $150 to unlock your SIM.
Which is about $145 more than I'm willing to pay before returning the phone to T-Mobile.

Yeaaaaah, buying any phone through the carrier is bad. They generally won't unlock it until it's fully paid off and even then there's usually a 30 day or so wait after it's paid off. That's why I just apply for a 0% interest credit card and buy the global unlocked variant. I've heard people say they've had success tweeting t-mobile's twitter somehow however I don't use twitter so I have no idea who/how that would work.

i've been successful with messaging them on facebook and asking them to add the IMEI to the whitelist. i've been with them for 17 years and I think that helps me when I message them.
6 Pro, maybe next year, in the spring, if i can get it with 5-600 euro. Just like i get 9 pro.
I'm thinking of it because i've seen "leaks" of 10 pro. Is Horrible! More Hideous rounded corners!. Same Useless curved screen. The cameras design are copied from Pixel 6.
Order the pixel 6 pro. Wasn't expected to arrive until late nov/early December, which was fine. But the more I considered the incredibly slow charging of the pixel 6 pro by today's standard was a big reason I cancelled the order. I mean serious...our 50w wireless charging in a good deal faster than their 30w plugged in charging. It would feel like such a downgrade in that respect. And while Google's new CPU is supposed to be quite good, it is not as fast as the snapdragon 888. All and all, if I was on an older phone I'd probably do it. But I see no upgrade from a Oneplus 9 pro.

What was the point of this post?
So had a chance to play with the Pixel 6 Pro. Here is my thoughts:
Not sure if I like Android 12's user interface. Not too appealing. That's my opinion. The screen is nice and huge. Rear camera seems really nice with only testing a few shots. Selfie camera over saturates and sharpness is way too intense. Haha you could see every pore in your face. Phone isn't too heavy and the feel of it is pretty nice. From what ive heard is battery life isnt good. But the biggest plus Google has is NORMAL UPDATE SCHEDULE. OnePlus has been lacking a lot. My wife wants to possibly switch,so, eventually I will. Torn between waiting for a s22 ultra or getting the Pixel now.

It's not worth editing your build prop or installing Magisk modules to make this work. If your phone pretends it's a Pixel 1, it can start losing newer features that rely on the phone identifying itself as a Pixel 6.
The Pixel 1 upload slave device is the only decent way to do this. Just have it sit on wifi and sync daily. If you're clever, you can probably set up a whole automation procedure.
I used to keep my and my wife's old Pixel 1s syncing photos from our (now old) newer phones using the free SyncThing, however at least some things were still definitely taking up Drive space from Google Photos. Enough that I gave up on the idea. It mostly worked but I heard that Google got smarter about recognizing what photos and videos were actually taken on the Pixel 1, and which ones weren't.
I finally gave in when I pretty much already made up my mind that I'd likely be buying the P6P 512 GB when it would be released, so I bought the 2 TB Google One plan to get the 10% credit back for our two P6P's (and other Google stuff I've bought since then).

Get over it. Google offers 100gb of storage for $30 for the year. Or $100 for 2TB. You just paid $1000 for a phone and you're going to cry about cheap storage fees?

Sorry, it is actually 200gb. I edited my other post.
I'm in the UK and I pay for 100gb Google 1 monthly at a cost of £1.59. BUT currently it hasn't cost me a penny yet, I use the Google Rewards and answer surveys which give me credit 10p here 30p there and I'm £10 in credit up to now so free storage for me and haven't paid a penny 2 months in and won't for the foreseeable and if I do £1.59 a month ain't going to break the bank any time soon especially knowing that all my precious photos and docs are safely backed up.

Lol. Not my intent. Just speaking among friends. Happy holidays!
I'm a Microsoft 365 it gives me 15 users each with a TB of storage along with other benefits for like 10.00 dollars a month.

This means you need to sync the devices, the pixel 1 would have to be online all the time etc. Not very handy.

In my use case I move photos taken by various cameras (P6P, DSLR, 360 camera, etc.) at weekend. Then process them on PC (geotagging, minor adjustment) then upload all of them to two OG pixels for parallel upload via WiFi. All photos then being accessible from anywhere via Google Photos. So far this works flawlessly. The freebies are there, just if it suit your upload style....
Yeh, Google Photos has improved a lot! It's my go-to.
Hate to revive an old(ish) thread, but has anyone using an old P1 as an upload slave had any issues with metadata getting changed? I made a thread here describing my specific issues, but basically I'm using Nearby Share to send stuff to my p1 for upload, and screenshots are getting their times changed when the upload finishes. Videos are fine, pictures are fine, and screen recordings are fine, it's literally just screenshots. Had no issues when I was using my P3 as an uploader before that benefit was EOL'd.
For those in the US with Amazon Prime. The service includes unlimited storage in Amazon Photos, including original and RAW files.

I had no issues with metadata that I noticed when I used SyncThing - I synced my entire internal storage to my old P1.
I did have a problem with Drive still running out of space so at least some photos or videos didn't work for unlimited storage by that method.
My wife, too.

Question Stand out feature

what is the new feature in this google pixel 6 pro that stand out in the market more then other smart phones
Unlockable bootloader if you purchase unlocked.
Magic eraser, but I honestly just see that as software that could be ported anywhere but right now googles implementation seem to work best (compared to Samsung).

Eh, lots of other phones let you unlock the bootloader.
Magic Eraser is good, but it's just a gimmick. The effectiveness varies wildly with some results being genuinely impressive and others being truly awful.
Having owned a P6P since release day I can say the amount of bugs Google keep introducing is what makes this phone stand out. Everything else the phone does is mediocre at best.
Skip and wait for S22

Ok, they asked for stand out features. You didn't offer a counter. So on this phone that's my opinion of what is offered.
And some regions don't have access to many phones with unlockable bootloaders.
See above

I'm also not here to defend against your opinion. If you wanted to complain about the phone you should've just led with that.
Plenty of people are willing to happily discuss all the phones short comings without coming off like a troll in hiding.

It was absolutely not a troll post.
Those are my sentiments on those areas you pointed out as 'stand out' having dailied the phone since release day.
And the final line summarises what makes the phone stand out - bugs. Totally accurate and valid.
The genuine bugs are a real issue which are affecting usability for a great number of people. Disappointment in things like Magic Eraser were entirely Google's own doing. They massively overhyped the P6 / P6P with their aggressive ad campaigns and they were unable to deliver.

I'm totally not interested in defending the phone. I offered my opinion to op whom I thought you initially were which is why I assumed you were so invested in my opinion. And thus I edited my post.
You don't care for the phone. Cool. Doesn't affect what's in my pocket. Have a great day friend.

Yes they do, but in most cases comes with a penalty !
In general loss of warranty is an issue with many manufacturers as well as loss of functionality (Knox!)
This is where I feel the Pixel is indeed ahead, as unlocking comes without penalties and is easily (and without left-overs) revertable....
And to add on top: maybe because of this if feel the Pixel has very active community development happening in comparison to other devices.....
As to the OP question: I see pure Android as a benefit, plus I like the very well made live translate option !
The killer feature of the Pixel 6 for me is the call filtering feature.

Oh, yes! Good call. I start taking these features for granted, I forget about them.
The Hold for Me feature is great, too. No more MUZAK or annoying distorted sounds they pretend is music, repeating on end for 30 minutes while holding...as long as the business your dealing with is recognized by Google as having a supported hold function - either that or it just sometimes has been a "miss" in auto-detecting that I'm on hold, but that was over a month ago, so not on the January update, and I'm not on hold that often.
My vote for a single feature is the 4x zoom camera. I'm very impressed with the quality of shots and love being able to have zoom. There is quite a bit about this phone that I like a lot. I got the phone the same day that the Jan. update was released so for me I'm also impressed with how fast the phone is and how well the software works.
Maybe not really a "feature", but for me it's the Tensor chip for 2 main reasons.
1. Integration with AI (for whatever that's worth ), but more importantly,
2. 5 years of security updates (If it was still Qualcomm we would only be getting 3).
My favorite feature is the 20x zoom, but there are other phones out there with better zooms so I wouldn't say this is a standout feature that separates the Pixel 6 series from other phones.

About 130 devices are planned to be supported for five years. Including any that would directly compete with the p6p. This includes phones that were released prior to the policy change.

That math doesn't equal to 130 devices.
I mean the s8 was released 2017. It's been updated. How many phones is google currently supporting for 5 years.

I guess I don't see a point and not using all the data present. It's great google started doing it but it isn't exactly ground breaking. And it isn't because of tensor.
Just providing data for clarity based on ops question.
I rarely keep a phone for two years so personally i don't care either way.

Yeah, I didn't say it was groundbreaking and I wasn't going to list every phone, hence "etc...". And I'm just going by what Google said that the 5 years of security updates is "...thanks to Tensor.".
