Question Got some permanent stains on the Display - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Hey everbody,
I got some stains on the display that cannot be removed any more. If you move over them with the finger tip, you can feel a unevenness down. I have no idea where they could have been from.
What do u guys think. Im usually really careful with my smartphone.

I am by no means an expert first and foremost.
But when I have something I can't get off my glasses with regular cleaning, I will use some toothpaste and a soft microfiber cloth and that has just the right abrasiveness to get whatever is on my glasses off them. Granted there's more cleaning involved but it works for me

Thanks mate. But im pretty sure these are tiny "holes" in the top layer of the display.

I think that you have not been careful enough and somehow damaged your display. It's possible that you only damaged the oleophobic coating, and not the underlying glass (should be easy to tell by looking at the display when it's ON - do the pixels underneath the damage still work?).
There is no other explanation to this, at least not from the looks of it (since you talk about "a[sic] unevenness down" - implying not superficial stains, but serious damage). There are extremely rare instances where displays damage themselves ("spontaneous shatter") but that is another matter entirely and has nothing to do with your - apparent - circular damages (since those lead to the shatter of the entire tempered glass). I'd wager either fire or acid or something else destructive happened here, but only you can tell.
Fire damage leaves a distinctive mark
Gorilla Glas Victus has a 6-7 on Mohs scale of hardness, you can pick whatever might have been your problem:

I have the same issue, appeared two days ago. I have one small one that looks the same as your small ones, On mine the mark is under the top glass, it almost looks like dust under an applied screen protector. If I look at it at 180 deg for the mark I can't see it at all, not until i move about 5 deg off 180, then at about a 45 deg angle it dissapears again.
To me that very big one looks like damage to the top surface, then the others look like they are below the glass

did you possibly get alcohol on the screen that dried up? I have something similar that happened to my screen and the only thing I can remember that possibly got on my screen was alcohol. I woke up the next day and noticed the spots on my phone but only when the screen is off

Alcohol is bad for the phone's display because it'll heat up the display and the glue inside will lose its stickiness. This causes the display to fall out or some damages like this cause the display to burn inside and show like this!

@randylahey786 Why in all heavens should alcohol heat up the display unless you burn it on the display/phone ? ..... and just for the record: i have been using isopropanol since ages to clean glasses, binoculars and, yes, also smartphone displays. BTW the nice tabs provided with many display protectors for cleaning the display are just alcohol swabs as well.....

I have seen issues with some people who have used sanitizer to clean the display and the display came out! Sanitizer contains alcohol in it, also isopropanol comes as a cleaning liquid especially for phones so they would've tested it but sanitizer or alcohol drinks are worst!

I agree, as you never know what stuff is included in those sanitizers and of course alcoholic drinks may include sugar and other ingredients that could leave residue on the screen after drying out.
I always get pure isopropanol for cleaning purposes, this way I know it's safe to use

Quite a few people on r/GooglePixel have had the same issue upon release - it's been speculated that it's something to do with the oleophobic coating not adhering to the glass & is a manufacturing fault.
I would contact Google and see if they will replace the device for you as it will probably get worse over time.

it looks like your oleophobic coating has been removed. Can you post some different photos? Do you have another smartphone you can add to the photo? Your display looks very dull (but it could be the photo).
I recommend the toothpaste and micro fiber trick the other comment suggested. then grab some oleophobic spray and coat your screen again. It takes 2 or 3 coatings to get it even but it works well. Unfortunately coating isn't covered in Google's Official Warranty (it says its not on their website). There's a good oleophobic brand that many people use and they swear by it but I forget the name.
But I would get the display even and unform first before doing anything - maybe even using a polisher tool with a really soft brush. Someone did this on reddit on their 6 Pro a few months ago to remove scratches and it worked really well.
I would also try to get as many reddit and xda posts as you can and document them, then contact Google and see what they can do. Also maybe try going to your nearest UbreakIfixit - see what they say? They see hundreds of different phones a day. But there seems to be over 15 posts on reddit that shows the same type of "Spotting" or "blotches" that appear on the 6 / 6 Pro. Not sure what exactly is going on there but some have gotten their devices replaced if I remember correctly (but others were told to kick rocks by google support, so make sure you prepare yourself before calling).

Neither sanitizer nor alcohol belong on a display. If people damage their phones on purpose or through the sheer act of incompetence, Google is hardly at fault... a phones display should only be cleaned with a fine microfiber cloth - and if the display is too dirty, only a special display cleaner should be used. Even that however should never be DIRECTLY applied to the display, but only used on a microfiber cloth again, which is then used in a slightly wet state to clean the display.
Since I know people, and people do stuff like that (smashing glasses cleaning cloth drenched in alcohol, sanitizer or something like that onto their phones), it's hard to judge/evaluate these threads here. Often it just seems like something that can easily be caused by a user, and is probably not a hardware issue.

was wondering if you tried google support at all, just to see what they would say. there's other instances of "blotching" on reddit on the Google Pixel forum. Do you know how it might have happened now that its been a few more days>?

Same issue. It was caused by dripping some salsa on the screen at a restaurant and didn't notice it right away. First time I've ever had anything like this happen to a phone screen.

Has someone actually tested these kind of liquids? Would be happy if it Would remove those micro scratches on my hox!
I have scratched and some tiny holes in edges of my hox . It happens while i drop my hox from 5 feet. And the sand made those scratches.
Is that possible to get removed?

I've used displex on a screen before (not my hox). I wouldn't recommend it it is far too abrasive.
use less those scratches are permanent and cant be removed with all these...
i tried different things on my previous one x, none helped...
I haven't tried this liquid before, but I have gone to a small shop in my country and they somehow managed to remove some scratches on my HOX, well, just the small or not so obvious one, the big one can only be "fade" away but they are still there. They said that I shouldn't take my phone to remove the scratches too often, I should only have it done for maximum of 3 or 4 times, because it's not really good for the glass
I agree. I think the whole point of a "scratch remover" is simply a marketing strategy.
It sounds pretty ridiculous to have the scratch removed, as scratch is an actual physical damage, the chemical composition is permanently altered.
(this is where alchemy comes into the play..... just kidding.)
From my understanding, the scratch removers are not actually removing the scratch.
They actually scratch away the rest of the layer which may look as though it has "removed" the scratch.
This is why they will tell you to not do it often, as your screen will become nothing over time, and this is also why one of the other users has said that it was "abrasive" as this is what they are for.
Hope this helps
years ago i used something like this on my siemens st60 but the display material was cheap plastic. it helped but i can not imagine that this will help on your hox, too.

HTC 10 Arrived with weird smudge on the screen

Hello i received my HTC 10 yesterday and its great!
But!
There is a weird stain on it out of the box ,
It appears when i pass my fingers on it or when i breath near the screen , i used some alcohol to clean it but problen persists...
When i rub it with a microfiber cloth likei clean the of the screen it dissapears but later on it may reappear....
When i clean it you cant tell the difference no matter what you do
Here is picture
http://imgur.com/a/cL2Yy ????
Looks almost like some sort of adhesive. Is it on top of the glass or is it actually under it?
Sent from my HTC 10
That has to go back.

Looks like some of the outer surface screen coatings have started to rub off. Definitely need to send it back for replacement.
Either adhesive that leaked out (if on the surface) or delamination (if under). Definitely get it replaced.
I cant exactly understand what it is... i cant get it replaced sadly , it look like its something on the outer surface of the panel but i cant understand if its some extra adhesive on Top or its some kind of Peel of in that spot...
Looks like adhesive as there is a drop also in the stain... tried with some alcohol but it wont go off...
Also if i take a cloth it gets cleaned and becomes smooth...but later on it may reappear , i think due to dust going on it..

Applying screen protector under water

Now that these phones are waterproof. Wouldn't it be best to apply the screen protector under water. It is recommended to put some water on the screen so you can push it out along with the airbubbles/dust.
Why not fully submerge it now?

I can't lie that's a very interesting concept. Get the cheap ones from Amazon glass of course but try it

I've never seen instructions to put water on my phone to apply a screen protector. I remember a few years back some primitive TGSPs required water, but I avoided those at that time because of it.
Also, is water damage covered by the mfr. warranty if some residual moisture causes damage?

Honestly, if HTC says it's IP67 rated and you get water damage from just placing it in a bowl of water for a couple minutes then it's their fault by means of a defect because it's supposed to be completely fine submerged in 3.3' of water for 30mins.
Well, I use skinomi screen protectors and you're supposed to use some soapy water to make them fit better.
It's nice because you can keep adjusting them, and once they're on right, you take off the extra water, and they stick down.
You get a little murky effect for 24 hours or so, but after its super clear.
Your mileage may vary of course, but it's an interesting idea.
It doesn't seem a good idea for me. Someone told me that you can apply it in your bathroom after taking the shower. This worth a try, maybe.
Besides, has anyone used ALCLAP screen protector for LG G6? I see that they have the white and black color. Wondering if I should just throw away my clear one and have a switch.
Have done this. Works flawlessly. Underwater ftw

I have the ALCLAP... I love it. The item doesn't match the instructions perfectly but the build quality is stellar enough that it's still my preferred screen. (Besides, we've all installed enough screen protectors that it shouldn't be an issue).
I installed the second one I received (warrantee) underwater and I don't think it added any benefit to the install process.
It's coupled with either the Bear Motion case, or a simple thin-line TPU case and in both cases the fitment is good. All items were recommended here so I guess I have to give you guys credit for how much I enjoy my phone. =)

Wow, thanks for sharing. And I really don't like the idea of applying screen protectors underwater. Sounds weird for me. I would get my bathroom foggy first to settle the dust in the air.:laugh:

Who uses a screen protector? What do you use to clean the screen?

So, people are starting to report that the oleophopic screen coating is wearing off on the S9, and mine definitely is doing the same. The entire middle section (used the most) looks gray and disgusting even after a couple minutes of use.
How's everyone else's screens (without a protector) doing? Any specific cleaning methods that have worked for you? I used a spray specifically for screens, but that's obviously not working the best...
Don't use one, never have since the S5, just use a soft cloth / t-shirt to clean mine, Gorilla Glass means you don't have to worry too much about scratching it unless you're careless
I've never used a screen protector and also just use a soft cloth. I don't remember ever getting a scratch on a phone screen with Gorilla glass.

Wrong, NONE. I've pulled out a couple of old Moto phones and there aren't any scratches on them either. I checked a couple of my wife's old phones that she throws in her purse and none on those either. I've actually got an old Moto E with my golf GPS app on it that I keep in my golf bag and it has no scratches either.
What about the issue with finger smudges becoming more and more apparent over time? It looks like the area I use my phone most is cloudy because the first swipe you make, already starts making a mark. Anyone else have this issue? Maybe my glass is just defective.

My screen returns to pristine factory condition once I've cleaned it

Do you have very small mini hairs on the screen?

I have 3 very very thin ones on the flexible screen that can only be seen in the backlight, do you have any? Do you see it as a problem?
I have many of them. I have used my fold very carefully, but they keep cumming. I think there will be many more, but i dont care. I dont see them when the screen is on.

Ah, gotcha. Then I have a million of those on my screen from who knows where. At least they don't show up when the screen is on.
I did not notice this until recently on my Fold. Now it seems like I find a new scratch every other day. I just ordered a screen protector for the inside screen. It was recommended in this forum and people have used it without issue. We'll see how it goes, but I don't want it to get scratches all over:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/283631210480
I have had my fold exactly one month and the main screen is absolutely pristine, not a mark on it. I Keep the device in the official leather case around the house/ workplace and in a pouch as well when it is in my pocket to keep out any dust or lint.
i think OP needs to specify certain things. we need more context.
are you using a case? or protective sleeve?
are your pockets dirty?
if you don't have a proper protective case, maybe some dust/lint from your pockets migrated into the middle crack while folded, and you then went to use the screen without noticing.
maybe you had left your nails long one day, and happened to get into it in a game or something. gaming tends to make you press harder than you should.
i somehow highly doubt they magically appear from "regular" use.
I don't have any on my screen, you possible got those whilst cleaning the screen with an old cloth.
I'll be surprised if you get hairline scratches by regular use.
