Question Newest/best gcam version for the a52s? - Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G

Is there a recommended source for gcam 8.4 that is stable and safe to use? We have both A52 5g and a52s 5g-s.

Hi,
on my A52s 5G (SM-A528B) most recent version of gcam that works is 8.1, anything higher force closes immediately.
I got the best results with this mod: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-bsg/

Thank you! Can you do raw/dng bracketing with this version? (-3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3 EV series)

Yeah you can configure really a lot of stuff, though I didn't test the raw mode.
But I created a config with some moderate changes to image quality and general configuration for the different lenses of the device since the provided ones didn't work properly for me.
Could share, if you like.

Sure, many thx! I'll try to dig in the raw story, because this sensor definitely has more potential then the 8bit jpegs.

Here it is!
A few notes: The most relevant options I changed are in Settings -> Modules.
For the lenses to properly work I had to set the option "Session of photo modes" for each lens to 61448 OR 61444 (both work).
You can tune every lens individually there, which is a pretty nice option to have. Most changes are really subtle. I spent a lot of time with the night mode and the HDR/Image Processing settings. Its really just a base config on which you can build up.
Easiest way imho is to only change one option at a time and take test photos. You really can get lost in there but I rather enjoyed it!
Enjoy!

Thank you!

You're very welcome, I'm happy to be useful.

I have a problem with the latest version (now) the viewfinder just freezes after few seconds of opening the camera.
Tried MGC_8.4.500_A10_V6 and MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix
And I'm on the latest one ui 4.1

You're footer mentions Xiaomi Mi 9, but since you are asking here I am assuming you are using an A52s?
MGC 8.4 is not so interesting because it lacks many image quality features that the 8.1 series has. So MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix is the way to go with MGC.
For the A52s viewfinder freezing is a known issue that you have to work around. And in later 8.1 series they slightly changed the way it is fixed, which means older config files don't apply the fix correctly.
I think the config file shared in this thread earlier was very similar to the common luke config file, so I attached a version of the luke config file that also fixed the freeze on the GV1zfix version. You can load it by double tapping next to the shutterbutton (or from Settings|Configs|Load in the app).
(and there is endlessly more discussion about gcam on A52s in this thread).

Thread closed. Please continue your discussion here.

Ok, I've seen that stuff before. So this is still the same line of that port where we have to dig through menus in hopes of finding the magic combo to make HDR stuff work? I had zero luck with that in a previous version. And did you use the same download link?

I used the download at the bottom of the link I sent you. Seems to be the same port you mention but to be honest, I havent even played with it yet.
Yeah, I'm definitely going to need to find the original link to this from a reputable source. Just tried clicking into the link in the OP from work and the safeguard software that usually comes up yellow/gold for sites that are not allowed came up red. That's a first for me and enough for me to not download from that site.

I can tell you a side by side won't happen. That's the first time I've ever seen that severe of a warning pop-up for a site before so I won't be going there. I did load from the this link though and it looks like this still requires some set-up to get HDR working on it. It's dark out now so I won't know until later.
I tried the google camera. However, I find GP camera app sometimes adds more noise but does not over expose as much as LG camera. However, in some cases the LG is better...Guess it just depends on the situation. Here are some sames I took in auto mode using the same focus point (touched area to make sure they both focused on same object). of course the ones with the post it GP on them is the Google Camera app. These are in low light to very low light.

ya....i have the same opinions. V30 camera app at times produces better photos, where others Pixel 2 Camera does.
Pixel 2 ZERO SHUTTER LAG is no joke though, and i'm not sure if HDR+ is occuring as since if so the HDR+ is done within a split second with no status.
Is this better or the same as Google camera NX 7.1?

I'd been looking for a working recent version for awhile. The other ones I could find were either an older version, or the updated version with all the options, but didn't work. Thank you for this! Going to test in a bit. I know it won't be Pixel 2 quality, but if I could match S8/N8 quality, I'd be super happy.
ok...so last night i was doing a bit of testing with Arnova's 5.1.014_v8.1 (Android 7+): same as BSG's v.4.0, but based on the new GCamera 5.1.x, with settings set as listed below. I do have to say...image quality as well as color reproduction is better than with the V30's camera. the difference is slight, but noticeable when you zoom into hard to focus lock area's. color reproduction is also a touch better. one thing to note though was I did run into a few freeze or hick ups with GCMod 5.1. When I'd press the shutter button, it would grey the screen, or do nothing. Would have to press the shutter button 2-5 times sometimes but it eventually would take the photo. Not always but sometimes this would occur.

Droid Life today says the V30 Oreo beta is available to a select group of users in Korea. Naturally they cite "speed improvements" and I'm sure the camera software is lumped into that.
http://social.lge.co.kr/newsroom/lg_v30_os_1102/
I'd have to guess that at some point "too soon" in the V30's Nougat development, the team was forced to say "that's good enough -- ship it" and move on to 8.0 (or 8.1 -- fingers crossed) development. No sense in wasting resources perfecting an already out-of-date OS..
It's unfortunate the timing works out the way it does -- surely this results in some of the critiques the phone has received, and those blemishes can't be easily undone, even if they release a *flawless* Oreo in the next couple of months with a fully optimized camera experience.
As usual, simply having this app installed on my device causes a battery drain. Oh well. It works rather well though.

[APP] Modded Google Camera

After trying many versions from the main thread in op3 forum, I found a version that works best for the nextbit robin. Considering it's running on an 808, decent performance with HDR+ even in low light.

You probably copied it wrong. Blame xda for not allowing links to be posted. Excluding http prefix seems to work around it.
The version from this post seems to work as well on the latest LineageOS. The "Config camera HDR+" setting should be "Nexus6 (Max = High)".

Can the HDR+ parameter actually be set to High though? Several versions I tried could only do Medium. The version I posted came directly from the thread on 4PDA.
Yes, the "High" setting works in that build.
Works great so far on AOSPA. Thanks for sharing.
Does this camera have slow motion? I have been trying to find a camera that offers slow motion for the Nextbit Robin. So far I've been unsuccessful. Currently I am stock, but would be open to flashing something like RR or Lineage if its stable and I dont lose any functionality...i.e.. fingerprint reader and everything else works.
I haven't yet seen a version with working slow motion on the Robin. 60fps works, though.
The latest 5.1.016-based mod from B-S-G seems to work as well, using the "Nexus 6 Hdr+ Auto" setting. Unfortunately, I've had no luck getting any of the 5.1.018 versions working.

Can you please post a screenshot of your settings page? Thank you.
Any other setting you changed/tried that work well?
The settings I'm currently using are:
Code:
Model: Nexus 6P
Config camera HDR+: Nexus 6 Hdr+ Auto
HDR+ parameters: High
As I understand it, the "Model" selection tweaks certain algorithms that affect the final image, though I haven't seen any definitive explanation for that.
When installing updates to this app, it's often necessary to clear all data for it, or else it may crash.
EDIT: Oh yeah, running latest LOS.

Settings I was using
Mode : Pixel XL(corr)
HDR+ : Nexus 6 Hdr+ Auto
ROM : OmniROM
This was working fine for about 10-20 photos in 2-3 days. Until one day(yesterday) suddenly while taking a photo it crashed the app after clicking the image (image wasn't saved). And it kept doing it even after relaunching the app. Odd thing was the same thing kept happening on all camera apps. A reboot fixed it for other camera apps but didn't fix it for this app.

After the above happened I cleared the settings before uninstalling and reinstalled this app and used the settings you suggested. Now it doesn't crash but it won't finish the Processing HDR+ thing and never save the image
I have tried changing to various models. I guess I will have to try a few different versions with different settings.
Any suggestion as to how to make the process of finding the right setting & version by trying various versions quick and less time consuming?
Interesting. The crash you described sounds like a hardware or firmware issue. I've not used OmniROM, so I'm not sure what camera APIs they've implemented. I know that there was a period of time when LineageOS had a lot of camera API work done, so that may have affected overall app compatibility. Also, while I hate to suggest this, you might consider doing a factory reset via TWRP, because it sounds like something might have gotten into a bad state since reboots aren't helping.
The best way I've found to play around with the settings isn't particularly great. I pin the app to my home screen for easy access, and do the following:
Launch the Camera app, test it out
Make settings changes
Go back to the main camera screen
Kill the app by hitting the Overview (square) button and swiping it away
Go to step 1
Hope this helps!
I am not sure if its a firmware issue or not because after the reboot other camera apps work properly.
Ha! I guess there is no other good way to test it out.
btw were you able to get burst mode working? I never was able to get it working even when it was working.
I've never seen Burst mode work on the Robin.
I guess for burst mode I will have to go back to my usual camera app.
Anyone got this working on stock?
Nexus 6p would probably be a better choice for the config, it has a 64 bit snapdragon 810. Seems to capture faster than selecting the pixel 2 or nexus 6.
Although I took a comparison HDR shot between open camera (on camera2 API) and this modded camera, open camera had better HDR post processing and didnt take as long to apply the changes. Ill probably keep this modded camera for the panorama though.

I have not tried to play with any other settings, nor tried it in stock 7.1.1.

[19/3/19] Working Gcam For Pie!

This thread is aimed to be as simple as possible.
I found 2 apks that worked for me. I created this thread because I'm sick of scrolling through the comments on which one works, and which one doesn't. So, here it is.
*NOTES* All Pixel Gcam mods will have autofocus issues. These don't have any quality degradation from my testings.
1. @fu24 Pixel 2 Gcam v.5.2.025-Final - Everything works. But I recommend to use this only for the front camera.
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/GoogleCamera_5.2.025-Final_fu24-17f.apk
2. @cstark27 Pixel 3 Gcam P3v10.1 - This is the best in terms of focus hunting, when taking pics, don't tap to focus. Let the app hunt for focus until it's clear. If it won't focus on the object, just switch between portrait and normal mode. Sometimes the pic comes out a bit soft. I'd recommend you to take multiple pics and select the clearest one. Thanks to @Sonudbm for mentioning this apk. The front camera still doesn't work.
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/P3v10.1_GoogleCamera_6.1.021.apk
I will update this thread whenever there's a better version(s).

Raw capture gives you vastly more detail than jpeg (or JPG), but with the cost of lower picture quality, it can be fixed by editing the photos. I'd recommend the 1st one, if you don't want all the flashy features. If you night sight mode as well, install the 2nd one along side.

Same here :/
Neither of these updates fix the focus issue with it endlessly refocussing. Does anyone know what the actual issue is with the Mi A1 and Pie? Is a Dev looking into this specifically. This is the only way it'll get fixed. Seems like no one knows it's an issue?
Sorry to say this, but both cameras have focus issues..
Does any one know Whether there is a 9.0 pie custom rom where no focus issue on GCam.
(i won't bother about green tint issue though)
I am still on 8.1 until we get something that works perfectly, do I need to unlock my bootloader and install the Camera 2 API again or that is not necessary?
Sorry to break it to all of you, but I really personally think that this autofocus issue is device dependent. I would recommend you to try random Gcam apks from that site (that's what I did). I think every device would have different apks that works for them.

Haters will say it's wrong!
Hello people!!
There is no GCAM Port of pixel 3 (the one with night mode) that fully works on PIE on MI A1. I have tested every recent version of every developer on the page of Celso Azevedo. In almost every version, all things work, except for portrait mode with front camera (green tint present when HDR enable) This is not what we want, because there is a huge difference between portrait with or without HDR.
The only one version that I find that it is working on portrait with HDR is one for pixel 2 (it hasnĀ“t got night mode) from ARNOVA. The version is: gcam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-v8.3b1.apk. This is my actual camera now.
I hope some developer could accomplish the same but with pixel 3 gcam mod.
Greetings !!!!

Weird how 4K 60fps only works on the ultrawide camera and not the main camera.
Is there any gcam mod that allows to record 8k and 4k/120fps? BTW I tried many mods and I did not find any with all functionalities available: all cameras, motion photos, night sight etc. If motion photos available, only single camera can be used, etc.
I also don't understand why they decided to remove all languages other than English from all mods. Original Gcam supports many languages.

Not at the moment, as far as I know but our device's release happend less than a month ago so the development is still in early stages. BSG is quite fast at updates so hopefully it'll eventually happen.

What is much more simple? Additional languages strings are original from Google, no need to touch them. Of course, additional custom settings will appear in English only, because they won't be translated.
Additional effort required to remove all translations. So it's opposite to what you are saying

So IOTW, the snapcam is preferred for the 9 Pro then?

I think so, yes. I read Snapcam is recommended for phones from BBK-owned smartphone brands. However keep in mind a brand could "block" the access to auxiliary cameras at any moment. For example Samsung blocked access to the selfie camera, so in GCam ports, the selfie camera just does not work on Samsungs... Not sure if they have fixed it, but I know it's been a problem for Samsung users.

I don't think there's a way to track it, just gotta visit the celsoazevedo page from time to time. Although most updates are minor, so don't worry about that.

You can download a XML file, and import it to the GCam app. It will import settings from the file, so if you find a XML file for the 9 Pro BSG Gcam port, just download it and import it via the app. Also you can create XML files yourself, and share them if you want as well.

Some manufacturers have even coded things to prevent third-party cameras from using the phone's full camera resolution capabilities. On OnePlus devices they could be locked to 12 MP, even the main camera.

To apply go into setting and look for load xml then pick it from the file picker

Nothing, really. They just have different signatures. If you find that certain additional modules (Magisk flashables that add or enhance a device's camera functions) don't work, try the other. Some devices have a camera version signed specifically for them (ie, Samsung phones) because of this. It just happens that the snapcam signature seems to work best on our device.
I'm having some nasty issues with a strong lilac purple pink RAW files from Gcam recently. It makes it unusable. It worked fine before but suddenly this problem started happening, perhaps it came after a system update. :/

A working Gcam for our phone, because we deserve it:
BSG: MGC_8.1.101_A9_PV0h
Download MGC_8.1.101_A9_PV0h by BSG.
www.celsoazevedo.com
(always use this version: org.codeaurora.snapcam)
Compared to the stock camera, the shutter is faster and the colours are somewhat more vibrant. Haven't had a chance to compare night modes yet.
If you have an XML setup to recommend, please do share.

I tried this and the colors were way to bright and inaccurate

We'll, it's not a secret that Google's image processing slightly saturates the colours and beautifies photos. Not a bad thing imho.
Anyhow, BSG keeps releasing new builds, the latest one dated today:
BSG: MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix
Download MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix by BSG.

Question Does anyone have working GCAM for the S22 SD base?

Tried installing few mod ones for S22 Ultra but kept on crashing.
If anyone have a gcam working for S22 or s22+ Snapdragon, please share!
I came here looking for the same thing, ha! I had Google Camera (Gcam) working perfectly on my S21 and would often switch over to use that to take Portraits etc.
If anyone is able to point out a version that works would be so helpful. Cheers!
I know right, all of the ones that are tried either keeps crashing when taking photos
See here for a build working very well with S22U SD:
Gcam
Is there a working Gcam for the Ultra? Is it even needed for the Ultra with its Samsung capabilities?

So far the closest I've gotten is BSG 8.1 but it still isn't great, ids 0,1,2,52 and I had to force the hardware levels from Level 3 to Full or Level 3 + for the main and front cam. HDR+ crashes main and front but with the level change it at least works without HDR+. Tele and UW seem to work fine though. Maybe someone else can play around with it to see why HDR+ crashes.

Do you have the Base S22 Snapdragon or Ultra?
Can I please ask which config xml did you use for BSG 8.1?
Also there are about 6 apks for GSB 8.1 - which one did you download? - https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-bsg/f/dl75/
This is as far as I've gotten. I was using MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix.
If you can get further and get HDR+ to work, wonderful. If not, it is what it is.

Hi, there are 2 apks for Samsung with the same file name you provided, one has "scan3d" and other has "ruler" - do you know which one out of those two?

I just tried the one ending with... _ruler.apk work with the above attached xml. But as mentioned, turning on HDR will cause the app to crash.
I installed the _ruler. APK
Was trying to take a video but when it zoom, the telephoto zoom lens don't seem to work- I wonder if it's to do with mine is S22 base and Ultra maybe has different cameras?
When trying UW or portrait or night sight etc it seems like taking the picture but force closes it with notification "Photo saving finished" but there are no photos in gallery..
So far only able to take regular photos with the primary lens even though all 3 lens options are showing up in the camera app
Hi folks!
This may have already been mentioned elsewhere, but this one works so far for my S22 Ultra Snapdragon:
GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.5.apk

Not on my base S22.
Here's my working config for all 3 rear lenses using LMC8.4R8.
Hasli: LMC8.4_R8
Download LMC8.4_R8 by Hasli.
www.celsoazevedo.com
Create an LMC8.4 folder in root storage and copy the xml there. After installing the Samsung specific port from the link above, open and accept permissions and immediately toggle to video mode and load the config. Good to go.

Hi, may I ask where is the "load config" function? I can only see the following:
1. Remove config name
2. Save config
3. Import ready-made config
If I choose (3) the app will just restart itself. There is no config selection.

After you open the app and switch over to video mode, double tap the space between the record and gallery buttons and it will pop up the config loader. As long as you've already copied the xml to the new LMC8.4 folder in root storage before opening the app, it'll appear there.

I am using US (Tmobile) Snapdragon S22 base. Got the ruler apk and the first one at top of list on link. Both crash immediately upon opening repeatedly. Cannot get to stay open long enough to get into settings. Any ideas?
