Question Wtf? My google assistanr will only work from locked screen?! - Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Does this even make sense? Just got this phone yesterday my phone won't respond to hey google unless the phone is on the lock screen.
Nvm that I need to yell for it to even hear me.
Is this a known issue Sturm this phone or did I get ad dud?

I have been testing it a couple of days ago and Google Assistant was working locked and unlocked, however what I noticed is that after a couple of minutes it would stop responding at all.
Plus, on top of that, I don't know what's the deal with Samsung and/or what is necessary for this to work, but Google Assistant is not working offline at all. It is supposed to work with some rudimentary on-device control commands, but it doesn't work for me at all.

Anyone else having issues with "Ok Google" working on note 4

So, Ive done the training and ticked off, the right boxes for ok google to kick in, when I say the phrase, and after the first training it worked the first time or two I tried it. Then after waiting ten minutes from the screen being turned off, nothing. The funny thing is I did exactly the same thing on a nvicia shield tablet and that works every time. Now, I dont know as ive read that " hi galaxy" if that is set on can interfere, but since ok google doesnt work from my off screen. I've found that " Hi galaxy seems to work each and every time. The interesting note here is that if im on a screen that shows the google mic icon, if i say ok google it responds normally. Im just trying to figure out why its working for some and not others loke myself. Anyone else having issues with this command or know how to fix it???
I'm having the same issue. I've retrained the voice model a few times. I installed GNL and had absolutely no issues with it working then which leads me to believe it's something to do with the Touchwiz interface and not Google Now settings.
--UPDATE--
I went in to S Voice and disabled the Voice Wake Up command and this has helped. Now Google Now responds even with the screen off.
I'll try that...thx...but i'd like to have both working....if anyone figures it out.

If your screen is turn off, and you say Ok Google, and hear the noise but the screen stays off and you can't really do anything, ENABLE the lockscreen, then it will work from screen off, apparently currently you have to have the lockscreen enabled for it to wake up to a normal Google Now screen like the Moto X does

Texting problems

1. I like to text myself when I need to take a note. For me it is very quick. But with the G4 when I text myself it keeps going on and on. Once I stopped it via force stopping Messages. Another time by restarting.
2. I am getting a pop up for a text when the screen is on lock screen, but can I get the full message to pop up or at least more of the message than the I get.
And shouldn't it. awaken the screen. When the screen is off I just hear the sound.
3. Is there a way to get "ok Google" to work when the screen is off. If I recall call correctly it used to on phones until Lollipop, correct
My friends S6 edge woke up when I sent him a message fwiw
Custom launchers can do the "ok Google" not sure when the screen was off. May need a custom kernel. I know if you go into Google and do a specific search, you can turn it on.
No problems texting either. Maybe factory reset
Player911 Thanks immensely for even getting back to me. I may have a lot of posts and be a senior, but I am quite a novice. I don't root or handle kernals. But really, your response means a lot
Let me explain what I THINK you said:
Custom Launchers can do "ok google" from a turned off screen. (I use Nova and Apex occasionally. Now using Nova. So I assume that it won't work on Nova?) (do you use a launcher where Ok Google works from a screen not on?)
as far as texting, you are able to text YOURSELF a message and it comes thru once and doesn't keep sending/running?
I had a G4 then switched to a M9 and now this G4. The M9 didn't cut it. But in each case, when I got the phone before doing anything, and this one, before doing anything I tried it and it did the same thing??
I can't wait to hear your answer about texting yourself because I just spoke to a guy at Tmo who did the same things I did, and a couple more and basically he said it's not the network (LG Said it was), it's not my specific phone, so he is sending a ticket up and will get back to me next Mon
Player911 fwiw, I did get find that Ok Google will work with the screen off, but only when plugged in??? Not sure what that means. Im sure you have a better idea than I. Thanks again

I've noticed it a few times. Nothing consistent. Probably just the Chinese government making tiny mistakes
Randon apps
Yes im experiencing the same problem with apps just opening over the top of what ever your doing. Apps that I haven't used in awhile. Would love to find out what is causing it
I don't have that issue. The application manager will opens temporarily when device reboots. The only bug I have found is that if I try to disable the amazon app my phone instantly reboots.
Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Tapatalk
I am on Sprint and have used this phone since Sept and never have experienced this, not even on Oreo since I updated on Tuesday.
just to add my two cents. I was having this problem. Turned off Moto voice security and I haven't seen this happen again.
I've got it too, can't figure it out. I'll have to try your suggestion JAWheat411, thanks!
Warning for those who are experiencing it: this bug has the capability to bypass screen locks. Opened up an app today that completely bypassed it. Interrupted my Spotify while at work and saw that app open instead. And I am sure that I locked my phone since I leave it on my toolbox, and don't want all my co-workers in my business.
I'm also having this very same problem. I will also try disabling Moto voice security and see if that rectifies the issue. I will report back in about 2 days.

lol, I'm late. I still have the problem. It's very random and hasn't been happening as frequently but it still happens.
Same on my Note 8. Very frustrating.

This is exactly what is happening to my Galaxy S7 edge since the Oreo update. And it goes right past the lockscreen and my security. My phone is always locked, yet I find I've send a nonsense text, or pocket dialed someone, or that a gibberish email is half-composed, or that my calendar is open and a new nonsense event is half-entered. Somehow Oreo is doing all sorts of screen taps, or allowing my phone to wake up and let the pocket do that. And I have enabled the thing about disable touch when in pocket, and I've shut down smart unlock, but that hasn't made a bit of difference.
This problem is happening with my recently bought Moto Z2 Force. It started out random, but then became pretty consistent. I tried disabling the Moto actions (voice command, voice unlock and one button nav) but the problem kept happening afterwards too and became consistent.
It even opened outlook and managed to delete an important email from my boss that I hadn't read yet! Had I not been looking at my phone while it happened, I would have had one unhappy boss.
Even after unlocking the phone, it would just try random unlock codes for a while and eventually lock out the screen for 30 seconds, and then try again. Wouldn't even let me restart the phone. After struggling for more than 2 hours, I was finally able to restart in safe mode and the problem seemed to stop in safe mode. I disabled Moto actions app, deleted data from that app, and also just to be safe removed the HDR+ cam app that I ported. Planning to monitor for a couple of days and see what happens.
This sh!t is just bonkers!

OK Google with screen off

I have been using the Moto Z2 Play for almost a year now, and the feature i used every day is waking the phone when the screen is off by using the OK/Hey Google command.
The tooltip in the Google voice match settings used to read: Access your assistant any time you say "OK Google", even if your screen is off or you're using your favorite apps.
However after updating the Google app to version 8.28 the tooltip changed to "whenever your screen is ON" instead of "even if your screen is off".
And sure enough, the phone will no longer respond to commands until i pick up the phone and manually turn on the screen, which defeats the purpose.
Why was this feature removed? I have tried everything and finally had to uninstall Google updates and install an older version(8.24) from apk mirror to get Assistant to work properly again.
What is even more puzzling to me is that this problem seems specific to my Z2 Play, i have the latest Google app version(8.28) on my Xiaomi phone, and the tooltip still says "even if your screen is off" and it works as it should.
I tried Googling this issue, i checked the Motorolla support forums, the Google assistant support forums etc. and couldn't find any mention of this issue.
This has also happened to me! I thought I just needed to reboot the phone to maybe fix a background service that had stopped, but I also see that "...even when your screen is off" has been removed from the Voice settings. This is one of the features that made the Moto Z line attractive to me, and I literally use (well, used) the feature several times a day, especially while driving. I also use Android Auto and now I have to either touch the microphone on my truck's head unit screen, press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds, or unlock my phone so I can talk to it. I have a self-built Android Auto in my other car and it also has this issue, which I now know is not related to either car's system. Thank you for posting and bringing this to our attention.
I think this must be a bug in the latest Google app. Does anyone know where we can submit bug reports for the app, or voice control/Google Assistant in general?
Has any else experienced this problem, or does anyone have ideas about what to do to potentially resolve it? Surely OP and I can't be the only two people who have witnessed this issue.

It is likely that there just aren't many Z2 play users who frequent xda, and the ones that do never noticed the issue because they don't use the feature.

Question Who experiences these three anoying bugs

... and has a way to fix them?
1. the phone will decrease its refresh rate from time to time and stays there, and the "stuttering" is only fixed by rebooting. Yes, I am aware, that Whatsapp and Telegram voice messaging is occasionally linked to it, and can be handled by removing the apps from memory. But not in the mentioned cases.
2. "Ok, Google" accessing the assistant doesnt work from now and then. And is back to normal a few tries later.
3. When talking over the phone with speaker mode and browsing on the phone, the notification bar cannot be pulled down any more, which is annoying cause I cant easily open the phone tab to end the call.
Anyone, guys?
2. I have a similar bug with quick tap, it seems that a system app freezes/crashes, and without knowing the exact culprit the entire system needs to be rebooted to enable the function again.
Plus my "Ok, Google" also stopped working in the past, found no way to fix it yet. It's probably an Android 12 bug.
Since yesterday I noticed my AOD does not work when on a call, screen goes dark. I go into AODsettings and it still turned ON.
There's only been one update since the phones been released, besides the FPS update, after a few updates it'll be fine
I have noticed "OK Google" not responding at times as well.. not as bad as my 2XL was at times, only a reboot would fix that...but is annoying to say the least especially when driving. And I don't think it works while using Waze or Maps for navigation either which stinks, maybe I need to use Android Auto for that integration to work right.
