Question Should I update? Or wait it out? - OnePlus 9 Pro

Greetings
I have LE2125
I'm currently on
Oxygen OS 11.2.10.10LE15AA
Got Notification for
LE2125_11_C.44_202201182114
Should I go for update?
I am skeptical about Oxygen OS12 given its reviews and number of bugs it has, meanwhile excited to try it out
Is downgrade an option? I have seen a few threads but my question is do I need to do something prior to update? And will going for update ruin the chances of going for certain custom ROMs?
Thanks I'm Advance

if u didnt like... you can always downgrade back to oos... and flash custom roms

if u didn't like c44... you can always downgrade back to oos... and flash custom roms

I updated my LE2125 to 12 awhile ago, and I haven't looked back...

Thank you all kindly vote into the poll above too, I guess I'll give it a try then

I use Oos 12 since Open Beta 1. Now i'm on ColorOS since C.36. I got no problems with my phone.

But for the 9 Pro there is Just the Chinese Color OS, without Google Apps, or i'm wrong?

Okay so I went for the update, actually I downloaded the update yesterday and had decided will hit reboot on my free time but apparently it decided to go for it on its own
For starters what's bothering me the most is about screen info shows SD855 instead of SD888 aside from this and other bugs
here are my Initial thoughts
Pros
Some of the features from ColorOS are great and even in a perfect world of Stock Oxygen UI(for OG's) I'd say these features are a must have
E.g
Dark Mode options
The wallpaper selector
More customizations
FPS options for video smoothing feature
Cons
Oh boy there are lots and lots of them
It feels like this UI didn't get the love that older Oxygen OS did before merger
A few days back I was helping a friend with his Oppo Reno and after this update I feel like I traded my 9 Pro for Oppo
Now don't get me wrong I always loved Hydrogen OS too, Color OS is a nice OS on its own (but not when Color OS is pretending to be Oxygen OS)
If it aint broke don't fix it I think majority would have preferred Oxygen over Color, Oppo should have kept Oxygen OS intact for its Global Flagships, and Color OS for other markets
I doubt OP devices will have that niche with what they had before
Sorry for going off topic there had to let off some steam
If you are all up for a change go for the update
If you are an OG oxygen OS buff I don't know what to say sooner or later you'll have to update at some point, give it a try?
Initially this update disappointed me weird things were happening with phone
Eventually its starting to grow on my a little bit I just dont like the Color OS look of app drawer and was looking forward to Android 12 themed quick toggles and all
I feel like it will keep on getting better as long as we get the same love via updates as we did for older Oneplus devices camera improvements and all

I was under the same impression maybe Color OS with Gapps installed or smth

What annoys me the most is that they removed the timer option for do not disturb mode.
You can only use schedule, or manually turn it on and off.
Is there any way to restore timer to the dnd-toggle like is was In Oxygen OS?

It's called Global, i think, because Google services works fine.
If you are on Oxygen (like i was) just flash ColorOs on top, using Local Update.apk. It's just like Dirty Flash a rom on top on another one (not a custom rom).
Now, of course i have google services working fine. There are about 5 chinese apps built in. If you are routed you can Clean all of them.

Okay I have been a while with this update and I'm thinking about downgrade or moving to custom ROM, it's not the change that's bothering me but the number of bugs especially the screen flickering bug on sleep to wake when you are using QHD with AOD it's totally unacceptable my phones display went green and I felt there is something wrong with the display, it's totally unacceptable, any other brand would have pushed an update by now or at least allowed users to roll back officially
Can you guys recommend and good custom ROM closer to stock and a stable daily driver but should have Oneplus's own camera app

OxygenOS vs OxygenOS Community

This is going to sound REALLY dumb to you guys but I really have Googled a LOT and cannot find an answer.
SO I am expecting to be a oneplus 3 owner sometime next week. I want to get up and running quickly when it arrives so I need to chose my OS.
I want to give OxygenOS a try (I have used CyanogenMod on all my other devices).
What is the difference between OxygenOS Official and OxygenOS Community?
Is one open source? or is the 'community' more of a 'beta' build?
Not looking for suggestions what to run, just want to know the differences between the two OxygenOS variants
Cheers alll !!

oxygen os is the more stable build intended for mass release and community build is sort of a beta software which still has some issues here and there.
I got my OP3 yesterday, and have been debating giving 3.5.2 a try, since the reports are all that it's pretty solid and daily driver worthy. But 3.2.4 has been running so smoothly so far that I think I'm going to just hold off for now. Then again, I could change my mind tomorrow morning and flash all the things.
Ultimately, it comes down to how willing to deal with bugs you are, because it's technically BETA software, and they will be there, and how much you want some of the new features they've rolled in like shooting 1080p 60fps video. That one could be big for you if you shoot much video - because they seem to have the OIS actually working in 1080p now, whereas it is pretty bad in stock 3.2.4.
The new community build rocks (3.5.2) I had all version and the last community is the best for me, plus you have 60 fps 1080p with camera and its really impressive. The rom is really smooth. Its just my opinion after but I tried a lot of rom (miui, h2os,cm13,cm14) and I'm really happy with the community build even without root

Is it possible for you to post a screenshot of this new "lock screen dialer UI"? This has been interesting me since I heard about it. Gonna maybe flash to 3.5.2 when it hits freedomOS.
Thanks.
I know antutu tells nothing Just a Small notice.
With original i got 140k in antutu. I. Community pushed 155k.
It feels More snappy. And it seems the battery holdsup beter. But iam only a 2days op3 user.
The main problem with the Community Build is if you want OTA updates going forward you have to flash the stable build, once it goes live, meaning you have to start from scratch again.
Given the stable build is only a week or so away, and there's not too many changes in the Community Build you may as well wait for the OTA now, in my view anyway.

Have some Dev on oneplus forums confirmed that stable build is a week away? I'm thinking of flashing the community build but if the offical build is coming, I'll wait.

On they haven't but the latest build seems so stable you'd hope OP would release it as OTA soon.
TBH if you haven't downloaded yet you may as well now wait, given the updates don't look that extensive.

Just because the community build contains the latest updates from OnePlus and it is not heavily tested for any presence of bugs, doesn't mean that it has bugs. The 3.5.2 community build, for instance, has no more bugs than 3.2.4, if any.
I will flash tomorrow last 3.5.2 build and there aren't bugs. Future update will be only ported of old features in 3.2.4 build. Now they move on some better colors, trasition and more oneplus style app like the newfull filemanager .

I haven't tried the latest 3.5.2 of the community build, but one thing I didn't like when I tried 3.5.1 was the quick settings. I don't like the small quick settings that appear with one swipe, and I don't like having to swipe twice to access the settings icon. Is there any way to change this in the community build?

No it's still there is 3.5.2 and since it's a feature from nougut I don't think it will go away.
the quick toogle CAST SCREEN is not present in the comm. build.
Is possible to add to the toggle notification panel, and add more than 9 icon?
The comunity build has got many more features but some bugs, for example: i cant use LTE on the newest community build. And the UI is diferent, it doesnt look like stock android anymore.

Best Mi 5s custom ROM for photos and videos

Hello !
I love taking photos and shooting videos with my phone and I always listen to music with Bluetooth headphones.
I looked for some custom ROMs in the forum but I'm a little lost about stability, what is working and what is not.
So I wanted your help guys and girls please.
I see that LineageOS 15.0 seems pretty stable but there's A LOT to read and tbh, I don't have the courage to do that haha.
If Android Pay could work too on it, that would be awesome but I don't have that much hope about that.
Thanks in advance for your answers and time,
Cordially,
bmx22c.
I'm very content with LOS 14.1 as it worked flawless since I installed it several months ago, but ViperOS also has a good track record when it comes to stabilty.
For camera it's easy, just install the last APK in the thread, where there are also suggestions about how to set it up every few posts:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...google-camera-camera-api2-fix-t3655211/page70
60fps video recording has some issues with several people though, so if are among them, try to use the ROM camera app for video. Photo's are best in the above app.
Android pay will probably work when you install Magisk (which roots the device and makes it pass the various security checks for stuff like Netflix and online banking), which also has plugins for music quality in the "Magisk Manager" app:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Personally, I use the Dolby plugin for sound (not sure if this version is still found in Magisk Manager):

Thanks for your answer !
I will look into LOS 14.1 !
I'm mainly using the phone to shoot photos in RAW format (raw format let you save all data from the camera in case you are not familiar with photos) but I have read some threads about the Google Camera APK and it really looks cool !
For 60 FPS, it may be an issue, but I'm mainly recording in 4K30i so if 4K works, it's okay for me
Oh ! Magisk ! Never used it haha, I always used SuperSU, it may be time for me to update my knowledge, thanks !
I used to install Viper4Android but if Dolby work, that's fine, I mean, at least bluetooth needs to work haha !
Thanks again for your answer !
4k30fps works, so no problem there. You can BTW also manually install Magisk modules, so you can try out whatever soundmod you please.
/EDIT: For the camera app, look at the latest posts for the newest version!

Have you ever tested LOS 15.0 ? I mean, it is the latest version, am I right ?
I have not tested it yet because there are some serious security bugs still left, plus some random stuff popping up. I'd rather wait a bit more before I move as it is so new. Recently there has been news that LineageOS is planning to merge android 8.0 with 8.1 in the coming weeks (with not 1 phone having LOS 15 officially yet), so that might possibly introduce more bugs. Call me a chicken, but I like my phone working whenever I need it.

Oh ok thanks, I didn't knew that it was THAT early, thanks for the informations, I really appreciate it !
Tbh, I liked changing ROMs on my older phone but I didn't do that for like 2 years now and I'm pretty lost on LOS versions.
EDIT: One last question. Do you have any tips as when installing LOS 14.1 ? I'm still in MIUI 8 and I haven't changed my recovery.
My bootloader is unlocked.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) I need to install TWRP and then wipe DATA + SYSTEM then flash ZIP (+ GAPPS later).
EDIT 2: I'm pretty scared tbf because last phone I had was a Honor 7 and it was just so painful not to brick the phone.. Installing version was painful like you needed x amout of instructions not to brick it and I just hope I won't lose any personnal data (personnal files, I know that SMS will be wiped)
EDIT 3 (yup, that many edit haha): I only see "nightly" version, is this correct, or is there any "stable" one ?
Well, as far as I read, they are more stable than I expected (as in: the bugs are relatively minor, thus it is useable if you are not easily annoyed) and the devs are making progress REALLY fast. So maybe in a months time or so it might already be worth for even the more cautious users to switch. Kinda depends on what kind of user you are. But from your text I figured you are someone who prefers stability over bleeding edge features.

Well, I'm an experienced Android user, and I had a pretty bad experience with my last phone which was a pain in the back for developers, so ROMs where not stable at all, video recording looked like sh*t, apps crashed etc. So I'm not against a bug here and there you know
Hi,
I'm just going to borrow this thread for a second, as I am looking for a similar thing. I would like to just add one more important factor for me and that is battery life. Would you say that this is also the best on Los 14.1? Are there any tweaks necessary in order to get the most out of the battery, similar to camera or sound tweaks? Is there still a battery drain associated with the fingerprint sensor?
Thank you!
For me battery life is fine as it is, but great after installing ForceDoze (Magisk module) after another user recommended it. No added trouble, so also a strong recommendation there.
To be extra certain you could flash the latest official Global MIUI first before flashing LOS as it installs the latest firmwares. It might be that you have to reinstall TWRP though.

Custom ROMs or Stock?

Hi, I didn't know if this should be in Questions or Discussions, so apologies ahead of time.
I just got a Pixel 2 XL and recently unlocked the bootloader. I'm thinking about experimenting with some custom ROMs and tweaking some things, however I'm really digging the stock Pie experience. Is there really any super good reasons for installing any of the misc. ROMs out there? Or should I just stick to stock? Just looking for some opinions. Thanks!

Personally speaking, I've tried most of the custom roms, and they're all great in their own way, with fantastic Dev & community support in all of them. Having said that, I like the simplicity, and ease of updating every month with the factory images when they come out. Just a few clicks here and there, and I'm running the latest software and security updates, with my magisk modules, root apps, and themes up and running in about 30 minutes. But again, that's just me

Hmm, thanks for the thought. I've been digging how fast the stock ROM is. As long as it's easy to go back to stock I might give it a go, I just don't wanna risk the out of the box experience lol

No worries. With a little reading and some patience, you can usually always get back to stock. Course, ya never know when the gremlins will strike!
I've been on a major crack-flashing kick. I love the freedom. I've become very fond of a couple features some of the ROMS offer that are baked in. Stock is great, no doubt. Yet, the ROMS provided here are fantastic. Def worth a spin!

Currently I'm running the 12/5 build of Liquid and I really dig it. The version that is newer seems to have some complaints. When the next monthly update comes along I'll prolly try to dirty flash but will be prepared to go back to stock on the January update. Lol I know how to deal with burps on stock most of the times...
Custom roms all the way lol but i wouldn't even mind a custom stock rom with a few minor tweaks and mods like the old Google devices had

Haha yup I sure do.. the good ol days
Personally, I went on a week kick of using custom ROMs. I love them. They generally perform great and have some useful features, for me, such as:
One-handed mode
Swipe left on nav bar to go back
Status bar customization
Quick and easy themes for dark mode
etc
However, there are just a few trade-offs, which could make it or break it for you.
No squeeze for Assistant. I use this not for assistant but with the Edge Sense Magisk module that lets you customize your squeezes to do literally anything lol.
LED Notification (I have not been able to get this working on any ROM but someone correct me if its just a "me issue".
No ambient display "Now Playing" text. Keep in mind it'll still pop up as a notification and there was one ROM I tried (Nitrogen possibly?) that allowed me to control music on Spotify via the ambient display and i LOVED that!
Those 3 reasons keep me on stock for now. I may switch back into the ROM scene if I could at least get the LED notification working lol. The active edge functionality is also something I use constantly but it's not the end of the world if it's gone.
Anyway, this is what Ive noticed! Hope others can chime in!
Edit: I use light manager on stock. I'm unsure if it works on custom ROMs. I should try it!

I use Light Manager on stock! I love it. You @localceleb use it on custom ROMs and it works? I'll admit that I have not tried it on custom ROMs but on stock it works swimmingly well! Haha
The beauty of these phones is you can always go to back to stock by just flashing the ota file in twrp.
So far my favourites are DU13 and Pixel dust.
I enjoyed Havoc AOSP. For now for me nothing beats stock with edge control. I use long squeeze for flashlight which is awesome for overnight piss breaks.
I never use squeeze nor care for the "Now Playing" on the lock screen (actually disabled both on stock).
I have been running stock for about a year with custom kernel, then found Havoc-OS and flashed that about 2 weeks ago. Don't have any complaints and absolutely love the customisation. Probably won't be going back to stock for awhile.
I prefer custom ROMs for minor tweaks such as status bar icon settings, lockscreen stuff and Substratum!
I've bought many themes so I'd rather have a device that has commits to make it work to its max potential (i.e. not having to reboot to enable overlays).
Updating process isn't difficult for custom ROMs either. Developers are usually pretty quick with updates once the Google images release every month. Just need to flash the new ROM zip, TWRP, kernel and root and you're golden!

Question any custom rom for the moto e 2020 xt2051-1?

Hi ! im looking forward to change my rom and i wanted to know if specificly the xt2051-1 had one (cuz thats the one i have) i cant find any anywhere for it and i dont want to go for another versions rom cause i dont want my phone to f up i got my phone rooted and installed twrp on it ,my manager is magisk i am confortable with command lines even tho im learning + is there any programs i should use on my pc in case my phone decides to fudge?
thanks for the help
thanks for helping newbies like me
Considering you just got yours,we can assume that it has the new touch screen,so afaik the only rom that will work with touch is this one

A dev uploaded an unofficial 17.1 to AFH(1) w/ the new display driver a couple weeks back. It works great, except no audio besides during phone calls or when using headphones(or BT?, IDK).
I recently stumbled upon AlaskaLinuxUsers tutorial+videos(2) on how to setup & compile custom ROMs. Am in the process of setting up an Ubuntu workstation with 4th gen i5, 8GB DDR3, 2TB SSD & slow internet. It will take some time, apparently. My goal is to get this 17.1 working w/ new display &/or the working 18.1 w/ new display sans gapps. IDK if I will achieve a bootable ROM, but it looks like it's my only path, as outside of Electimon(3), not a lot of development is going on w/ Ginna anymore. Will post progress/results, if any is gained.

Nothing but respect & gratitude for E's work. Am a long-time fan. However, his build contains Gapps & I don't want them.
Understandable if you get one going let me know because I'm currently on stock due to camera issues and I would love a ROM sans g apps especially if you would put sig spoof in for micro g
Just before i do something i just want to know if AOSP has a rom for that phone already cause its my fav rom of all time but if i have to port it myself is there any guidelines i could find on how to port/create custom roms ?

Two posts before yours, link #2.
I have been delayed... unidentified bug bite put me out of service for a bit. Wild f'n ride. Got Ubu w/s setup, will start provisioning/downloading tonight.
After ~14 hours downloading(multiple nights @ < 1MB/s... aggregating > 50 GB) on my wireless plan, I am yet to achieve a 100% sync of the LOS repo. After hitting the MU Throttle Threshold on last month's plan, I must concede defeat at this point as I cannot afford to jeopardize my only home inet option available for another 30 days(extreme rural living, no landlines or line-of-sight options). Sigh.
my schedule is full of other things but i will take a look at the links posted and attempt to to builds as it. LOS sans GAPPS sounds like a dream. currently I use 18.1 modded and manually degoogle it. its not so fun everytime i reset :/
Any update on a XT2051-1 with the new screen and no GAPPs

FWIW, I should have an internet connection capable of down/uploading in the next 2 weeks, at which time I will begin failing to compile until I succeed. Hopefully, on all points.
It seems like rolling the old 17.1 w/ the new display driver would be pretty straightforward, but a lot of ignorance is wrapped in that statement.

Question One plus 9 pro custom roms

Hi everyone,
A few days ago that I have this device (european 12/256 version) and I'm already thinking about putting a custom rom , it seems that OOS is no longer what it was ....
Reading some of the comments I have a few questions:
Is it true that in all custom roms there is strange stuttering (does not run smoothly)?
With magisk hide option, the gpay runs well ?
What are the differences between the gcam and the stock camera ? (we lose video quality, monochrome type option? something else?)
There aren't many videos on youtube about custom roms and our one plus 9 pro, so if I decide to install one, I will upload some videos talking about it.
thanks in advance!
I'm in the exact same sutuation that you're in right now
Losing the stock camera would be the biggest blow for me. Gcam is good and all but not in every situation.
I'd love some feedback aswell so I start rocking some ROMS on this beast!
Idk I have flashed a few custom roms on my 9 pro. Only thing I really have issues with is gpay and and Android auto and Bluetooth syncing. Like I have a media player that has a USB port I plug my phone in and it goes directly to Android auto. But if I have a custom in it won't connect at all. And gpay it won't let me use it at all but I haven't really tried to hide with magisk either. The custom roms are awesome but I think as of right now cause the changes in 11 and 12 happening everything is off in some sorts.

Hopefully someone else can give us some feedback on their experience with gcam or if anyone knows if someone are trying to port the stock app.

I look forward to reading your experience soon!!!
When I decide to do it I will publish a post similar to the ones I did for the v30 and the mi9t pro, I think that way we can help people not to get lost in the customs and kernes post.

In fact all Lineageos based ROMs (lineageos crdroid etc)suffer from strange stuttering ,only Paranoid defaults globally to 120hz(run smoothly in app). This problem is still unresolved for developers
Thanks for your comment, is there a video where I can see it?
I've flashed statix、StagOS、Corvus、evolution 、carbon、lineage os on my op9 pro , here are these videos : https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1h3411z7HJ https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1uM4y1K7a2
