Question Normal to be stuck on Nov 2021? - OnePlus 9 Pro

Morning all, I went through the pages but couldn't find anything that relates to this. Bought the 9pro yesterday (US version, unlocked, using a TMobile sim)
Phone can not find an update, it's still sitting on November 2021 patch with Android11. Is this normal? I know the US hasn't been getting much love lately from OP. I'm also aware of updating via sideload but if this lack of update is known to others as well, I'd rather wait it out until OTA arrives. Anyone have advice?

Same for Europe. BUT - be happy with being "stuck" on Android 11. OOS12 is still way too buggy, more of a beta version.

If you want to try out Android 12, you can proceed through the Oxygen Updater app. The last official OOS12 update I was on has been the C44 EU (C46 is out, but not for EU yet), and I decided to give a try to custom ROMs (Jaguar, on Android 11, and crDroid 8, on Android 12).
I'm currently running crDroid 8 as my daily driver, but OOS12 C44 EU was great too (the first OOS12 updates were quite a mess, though).

I bought the unlocked global verson from Best Buy last week and same thing, no update, still on November security release.

Horror stories? Over exaggerated for the biggest part and mostly caused by the disappointment that originated after OnePlus and OPPO announced a closer cooperation and unified OS.

I saw this yesterday but figured I should at least give it a little time. Two small issues so far. One, it optimized my alarm clock app so I woke up late this morning. Second, the font and spacing seems a bit bigger on everything and I haven't found how to get it smaller yet. I have font set to small. Wifi, Bluetooth, 4 and 5g all seems to be working fine. No issues with lagging, screen, etc. Let me know if you have anything specific you want me to check.

I paid $530 for my 9pro brand new (us version & unlocked). I'm stuck on Nov 2021, I don't see anything super promising regarding A12 or OOS12, so I guess I'll stay on A11 and treat this phone like a mid-ranger. If I get a OTA, yay.... If not, oh well it was essentially 500 bucks for an 888 and 12gb of Ram

Do you happen to know if I root my 9 pro, whether or not I can still get OTA updates? Or, if maybe i could still use Oxygen Updater to do so? I dont mind the stock OS but id love to get Titanium Backup going and a few other small things.
NEVERMIND - Found on the Oxygen Updater site. Still works after root, just a slightly different process.

You'll have to check personally for that, as I'm unsure about how Titanium backup works. But I know you can still use Magisk and keep your device rooted even through OTA updates (the process is described step by step in the associated post on the OnePlus 9 Pro forum, so you should find it quite easily, but be careful, as you have to do a few things before rebooting to apply the OTA update.).

Oh, absolutely. I rooted mine in December.
Don't. There is no benefit to it and it only causes problems. Wait until there is full firmware available and you've already upgraded to official Oreo.

In order to root you first need to unlock the bootloader and FRP. Once this has been done, it cannot be undone. Any attempt will likely result in bootloops or brick.
At this time, it will prevent you from being able to apply any OTA updates and voids whatever warranty you might have had.
With root, however, you can do a couple of neat things like remove the bloatware. Most of that can be removed without root, but there are a couple things. Add-free youtube? There's an apk out there that doesn't require root for that. Apply a different kernel that allows you to tweak performance or battery consumption? Doesn't exist and the phone's pretty good at performance and battery life as it is anyway. Oh, and snapchat won't work on root.
One really great thing you can do with root is flash the AOSP or OpenKirin rom. They're beta, so your experience might be better or it might be worse than stock.
Was there something else you wanted to do with root that you can't do without it?
I've never owned an Android device without root, but I'm regretting rooting this one. I'm looking to try out OpenKirin, but since my phone actually works for the time being, I'm hesitant.

As I understand it, you need to use the guide to upgrade to L21 and then flash RR Oreo from there. From what I've see elsewhere in the forums, one person has done it successfully and one person has bricked.
I've rooted many phones over the years but this one hasn't been fun. Unlocked bootloader, rooted and installed TWRP basically the day it was available. I didn't read one of the postings correctly one day and soft bricked my L24 trying to RELOCK and flash stock recovery. Long Story short I gave up and called customer support this past Sunday and started a warranty ticket. They sent me a packing slip via email. My package was handed to UPS driver at 12:45 Monday afternoon and my phone is already in route back to me for delivery tomorrow. I think I'm going to pass on unlocking and rooting until there's stock firmware released. Good luck if you choose to root.....

Neither me, since I owned an Android, I rooted. But the the question now is? Is it worth to lose the warranty and OTA updates now that Huawei has been banned in US? I owned the Honor 7x since a year, it works just perfect, but there are some apps that i would like to use that require root, like Tinkore keymapper and a DIY gamepad. Again, is it worth it?

Question Global Variant Updates

So is one plus just not going to release full versions of OxygenOS for AA model? Basically no way to update to 11.2.4.4 on Global model as far as I know...
yeah man I know I'm still on 11.2.2.2 waiting on a full update because I'm rooted.
Global always seems to take longer for it's updates
I got the update on Global a couple days ago for what it is worth.
Really where are you located? Carrier?

What do you mean "release"? On their download page? They always take ages to put build on there (if they even do).
If you want a full release then install Oxygen Updater and set it to your regional OP9P then set full update, you'll usually end up getting it downloaded quicker than OTA

I do. The latest full update Oxygen Updater is showing is 11.2.2.2. I have 11.2.3.3 (because I rooted after installing that OTA) and I HAVE the 11.2.4.4 OTA already, but I can't install it for obvious reasons. Hence the original question. There's no way to update a rooted Global Variant without going back to stock.
I received it a few days ago. 2125 on TMobile..

Nope your right sorry. I was thinking about the tmo version. Carry on.
People need to stop saying they got the update for 11.2.3.3AA and 11.2.4.4AA. We are all talking about the Full OTA as many of us are currently rooted on 11.2.2.2. Those that are on 11.2.3.3 or 11.2.4.4 are either unrooted or are using the EU/In versions. I for one will wait until AA is available.

Exactly incremental OTA, I stated about the Full OTA. 11.2.3.3 and 11.2.4.4 are not out yet, and people have mentioned not being able to even install the incremental OTA. I for one haven't tried to unroot, take the incremental OTA and re-root. Payload dumper will not extract the boot.img from the incremental OTA therefore I can not re-root. Can I ask how you re-rooted without having the untouched boot.img to patch and boot?

General OOS12 is the worst OOS ever

Basically, it just changed the user interface of Coloros 12 to OOS12, which is a completely different system compared to the previous OOS, and within half an hour after I updated to OOS12, I was back to OOS11. It's a complete waste of time
i agree oos12 is ****ing dogwater lmao
Is it possible to install ColorOS 12 over OOS12?
Why did Oneplus ruin my new oneplus 9 pro with this crap. Now I am back to rooting and Rom'ing, in order to be on android 12 that isn't a complete disaster?
(rhetorical question).
I thought 11 was a downgrade from 10, as well. But nothing like this. And I could get 10 for 9 pro, since it released with 11

For what it's worth, OOS 11 did not give me the performance on the 5G Network that OOS 12 is giving me now.
OOS 11 I simply edited the policy restrictions in order to access the 5G cell towers and the download speeds were 50% slower than a comparable 5G capable handset (iPhone 13 pro max, Motorola Razr 5G, One+ 8T 5G). Even after unlocking the bootloader, rooting and reapplying the modified policy restriction.xml the One+ 9 Pro on the OOS 11 had poor 5G download speed.
OOS 12 with unlocked bootloader, rooted, and using 5G switch (playstore app) the 5G download speeds improved greatly. I would say they are 50% faster than same handset on OOS 11. I cannot access engineering mode and therefore modify the policy restriction.xml file like on OOS 11, but given the faster download speeds I'll take it for now. For what it's worth, 5G switch would not work on OOS 11.
Another great option that OOS 12 has is a separate volume level for Ringtone and Text Tone. I NEED to be able to hear my text tone alert (which is usually a very short burst) all the while keeping the volume of the ring tone down so that I can take my time to analyze who is calling without disturbing those around me. OOS 11 combines ring tone and text tone under one forced volume setting, which blows imho.
I personally don't find the interfaces of the two much different, and cannot say that I have noticed any real speed differences or battery consumption pros and cons. I do like the graphical design of OOS 11 over OOS 12, but that can be improved by using different Launchers if that is your thing.
Cheers
Buyer beware - the latest OTA for OOS 12 comes with (apparently) an encrypted-ish bootloader that refuses to boot patched/rooted kernels or recoveries. I learned this the hard way on my 8t. So if you want keep root, it's MSM and custom ROM time.

Nothing new and nothing to be worried about. You need to disable boot verification by flashing a blank Vbmeta.img, and after that everything works like it's out of the box.

Question OxygenOS 12 C.60

May 19, 2022:
OnePlus is starting rolllout of a new system update for the OnePlus 9 series. It comes with version C.60 and measures over 1.5GB.
The latest OTA brings a couple of multitasking improvements and adds some connectivity and gaming features. However, the May security patch is still not available for the phones. You can read the full changelog below.
Convenience & efficiency
You can now open up to 3 apps in floating windows at the same time in Split-screen mode and switch between Floating window and Split screen modes
You can now use the Clock app in Quick Return
Connectivity
You can now open up to 3 phone windows on your PC
Games
Adds the HyperBoost end-to-end frame rate stabilizer
Heterogenous graphics: Reduces gaming loads and power consumption (only for some games)
As always, this OTA will be incremental. It will reach a small percentage of users initially. A broader rollout should start in a few days.
To check if an update is available, head to Settings > System > System updates on your device.

There is no workaround for that unless you Root your device and add the universal safety net magisk module and hide root afterward in Zygisk from play services and playstore.

thanks for your response, i'll wait for the next full OTA zip for either of the regions and then flash it. I don't wana root my device as its my primary driver.
Still no update other than in India for almost 2 weeks now. OnePlus really seems to only care about India now. All of their phones seen to have this issue now.
Anyone running this on a global 9 or 9 Pro unit? I flashed it and had to use the TMO COS/OOS data retention fix since it thought my device was dual SIM but I lost 5G and WiFi calling on T-Mobile in the process. Just curious if anyone was able to get these things working before I go through the arduous task of a factory reset. If not, I can live without them for now.
Edit: Cannot pass SafetyNet either. I have tried universal SafetyNet fix, I have tried Shamiko, and I have tried props config. I have only ever had to use the universal fix before so no idea why I can't pass the CTS Profile.

Stock rom with latest security patches?

Hi,
is it possible to keep the stock rom and install newest google security patches?
It would be better to keep everything as it is (also user data) and just install security patches.
I love this phone and I don't need a new one. I'm also fine with the stock rom.
The only thing what bothers me is that the last security patch is 5 months ago.
(im familiar with flashing custom roms years ago: cyanogenmod on galaxy s3, lineagueos on s5. But since then I did not get in touch with the custom roms topic)
Thank you!

Afraid so. Security updates are pretty much over once the manufacturer stops tweaking the patches for a particular line.
Even Google only promises Pixel security updates for 5 years.
