Am I the only one experiencing issues with USB connection and file transfers? I'm having a very hard time using my sync tools to automate transfer of entire internal shared storage. Windows sometimes shows two internal storages. Sometimes if i copy the entire internal storage over, it will only do a few files and then crash or stop. My automated tool for syncing directories can't even access it reliably. It reads the contents and then just hangs or crashes. I can copy files over manually no problem, but sometimes if I copy bulk folders over it will crash or have some kind of issues and I have to do it again. I feel you have to manually navigate inside the internal shared storage to really get it to work, like windows can't really dig deep into the filesystem on its own.
God I miss TWRP
But what is with the usb mounted storage?
I haven't had any troubles with accessing my Pixel 6 Pro from Windows unless I accidentally hit the cable the wrong way, but then once I fix it, it works reliably for me again until/if I have another accident.
Are you using the cable that came with the phone?Is this a laptop or desktop?If a desktop, are you using a USB-C connector on the outside (top, front, or side) of your computer, or are you using a USB-C port that's directly on the back of your computer?Do you have a spare cable you can try, even if it's a different type (USB-A instead of USB-C, etc) - as long as it supports USB 3.x Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) at a minimum.Do you have access to a spare computer to test if you have the same problem with it?
Also, I don't use Windows Explorer at all. I find file transfers of any type work much better through GPSoftware Directory Opus (I have nothing to gain advertising them - I've been using Directory Opus for 30 years, so I'm very experienced with it).
There may be other Windows file managers that also work better, or there is even TeraCopy although I haven't touched that in years.

Man, I have tried all the usb slots. The one directly on the motherboard and otherwise. If I use DOpus, if i try to copy the internal shared storage folder as a whole, it crashes part way through. But I was able to succeed if I used DOpus' synchronize tool, which digs into the directories before copying. I don't know why, but that helps. That is what I'm saying. It seems windows needs help digging into the folders before it can do anything with it.
I have also tried multiple cables including the white one that came with it. No big difference.

Is there any chance you can have temporary access to another computer to try with it? If necessary, you could try a computer at the library just for testing purposes.
Back when I used CodeSector TeraCopy, it had a way of more easily integrating with DOpus, specifically, if you end up trying TeraCopy and see if it helps.
Also, is this Windows 10 or 11? (I'm on 10)

What you are trying to do won't work.
The Phone is not mounted as a standard USB device, so it isn't assigned a drive letter. Instead it is being mounted as a MTP device. Microsoft is being "user friendly" in the Explorer shell by giving it a path, and you can browse the folders etc. But I think it is only being seen by Explorer, and it isn't recognized as a storage device at the actual OS level. So the robocopy command doesn't see it.
If you want to use robocopy, you will need to install an app for Samba file sharing. This will let Windows see the files on your phone like another computer's network shared folders.

This will be connecting over wifi, not your USB cable, though.
So, with the Samba app installed, you might also try adding reverse tethering to make the phone use a USB cable to the computer as the network connection.

Ahh I thought that was going to be the problem. I can't seem to add files on my Windows PC it keeps canceling the transfer. On my Mac they transfer fine. So what I think I'm going to do is once I get my 20gb of music on the phone just use DoubleTwist AirSync.

OK, I just don't get it. I've tried different PC's/Cables, etc. I have files/folders (mainly CWM, larger stuff) that will NOT drag and drop onto my PC from my GN. It makes no sense. I can view the virtual SD PERFECTLY FINE, but when I drag and drop, nothing happens. When I try to drag and drop certain things onto the virtual SD, half the time I get told that the device can't be found/has been disconnected.
I mean, this is a HUGE issue that I can't just drag and drop my entire SD Card to make a backup and then transfer those contents back on. What am I missing? I've tried connecting as MTP and PTP, makes no difference. Both of my boxes are Win 7. One is 32bit, the other is 64 bit. On top of that, I was just trying to transfer some data and the ENTIRE Virtual SD got deleted (luckily most everything was backed up). This is seriously borked. I've RTFM for days now and I can't find a solution.
Try reinstalling your drivers even if they installed fine.
Tried that. It's like the only solution is to reboot my PC. I'm fine with doing that, it's just general frustration with not understanding MTP. Is this a mass file header issue with data transfer? Something on my computer's end?

I second this. I don't have any problems with MTP myself but for most file transfers it's just easier to turn on AirDroid than retrieving my usb cable and hooking it up that way.

Sorry for a kinda double post, as ive posted this in the noob thread, but I think its being overlooked.
When connecting to a PC, how can I get a normal file transfer mode?? the media mode is just too limiting, one file at a time, transfer with no ETA, cannot browse picture folders with image viewers.. "this file cannot be played are you sure you want to copy it" blah blah blah...
I'm sure on my old HTC sensation as well as media mode you had file mode.. but I cannot find it and I don't have usb 3.1 on my laptop only 3.0 so hopefully that's not the answer..
please help.. mostly after getting at my SD card without removing it from the phone as I can never find the "proddy thing".. not fussed if I need to install a third party app or other... but currently on stock EU rom non-rooted.

When connecting to a PC it should pop up a question about how you want to use the connection. So select Filetransfer and trust it with "Yes". And that s it basically. You can also find this in the notification bar... eh about what to use USB for.
Also be sure to have suiting drivers. IIRC they should be installed with HTC Sync Manager. Maybe installing HTC Sync Manager would fix your issues already?

How old? I think this special mode you refer to was removed some Android releases ago already. Nowadays theres MTP. By all this speed of that USB ports nowadays intention seems to be initially that you do not have to unmount it in order to get all that stuffs you knew from past. I remember when my ONE-S got a update suddenly in past where exactly this step to MTP happened. Since the USB2 hardware in this old phone was a bit older and worse it became slower than before. Many ppl had been looking for a fix for this, since you could not enable it like it was before. IIRC one solution was to use a custom ROM. I can not recommend using a custom ROM personally.

No it is not. I m also having a 3.0. Still at least with marshmellow you would have to enable the fast file transfer with 3.1 explicitly in the case you really have such port on your Computer. And still theres some influences and things to consider to get optimum bandwidth.
But a 3.0 connection is usually not as crappy as you describe it now. So i would sugguest you:
- I assume a driver bad.
- Or Faulty cable.
- Maybe some setting in your file browser on the computer?
- Is the preview disabled maybe?
- Latest drivers for the phone? (HTC Sync Manager)
At very first i would try to get latest HTC Sync Manager for HTC10 from HTC website. Or if you are in linux, check your packages, udev rules and that MTP gets rolling.
Hope this helps a bit.
PS.: Try connect your Phone to another computer with maybe Windows 10 and latest HTC Sync Manager. Just to exclude that your computer or its software might cause this issue.

I think it was my first android phone, Recently I have been using LG G3 running cyanogenmod, so have always had a proper "file mode".. it was just like plugging in an external hard drive. I did not realise this was not a feature anymore in standard android.
The main problem I dislike is not being able to view pictures... If I open one picture from my phone or SDcard, then my picture browswer says viewing picture 1/1 even if the folder has 200 pictures in it, I cannot space/tab through the pictures, I have to close that one, then open the next.... I do find it frustrating only being able to copy one file at a time, and constantly having to tell it that I do want to copy the file despite not being able to play it, but those things I can live with.
I already have tried installing extra software and on windows 7, (I am running W10) but no luck
It just sounds like they want you to remove the SD card.. shame they make it so impossible to do.. I'll continue to hunt for a solution without custom rom.. and post any findings.

How is it. How do you think about an alternative way to transfer data like e.g. from playstore Air Droid using WLAN.
Did you try another data cable, by all ports and operating systems?
And just in case. Do both of your computers feature the same USB drivers and hub? Maybe a driver issue.
I noticed one thing recently. When i connect with MTP and copy lets say: "400 MB pictures" taken with my old phone, spread on 97 files to the SD card it does not take long. But what takes long like 20 seconds after copying is done is that it shows previews. I have to really wait until it is done transferring.
So could it be maybe the case your phone does not finish somehow?
And yes the Windows Photo thingie does not see it as folder to slide through.
Meaning: i can not deny your issues fully.
Honestly what i totally love is an Plasma Desktop for linux is an software which called KDE Connect. You get WLAN connection to your phone and can even control the mouse. Do simple file transfers. And what i totally love about it is, is that it almost seemingless integrates into the Desktop. On the other End i think WIN10 does not feature such service (stock). Air Droid is one of those tools in this way which you can expand the computer expirience with. The preview and copying over WLAN is blazing fast. Plus you do not have to connect the cable.
But it requires a client/server and permissions on both ends. And thats what i dislike about the Windows side. It is not so seemless. And it is in the way of one of those extra services, running.
Also the speed of the SD card does in fact matter. Is it maybe one of the older generations you inserted?
The new SD's from this year are much faster and bigger.
E.g. read about SD card speed classes SDXC class U1, U2 and U3
Even if you can push 1 GiB /s through a cable.... if the SD only takes 96 mib/s...... lol

So lets say you was using a 6 years old SD.
Your phone is worth (lets say 600 $) but the SD is not worth any cent. In case the SD was so old.
This is how Android now is.
What you're looking for is USB Mass Storage mode. They removed that because it was a wide security hole where someone could just plug your phone into a computer and copy all your storage and mess things up at will. Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) is all Android has now. Your phone memory doesn't just have your photos and music on it; it also has your apps, logins, systems files, etc.
The "file cannot be played" prompt that bothers you can be disabled in Windows. Just do a Google search on that. As for transfer speed, I'll bet you that it's a bad cable and nothing more. MTP isn't slower than UMS.

I didn't mean to imply it's slow transfer. By limiting I mean it's holding me back. I like to transferr a 20GB video, and while it's doing it, go to my pics and view+sort them etc. But now I cannot. One at a time. Zzzzz..
It sounds like I will either need to investigate lineage again. (I'm unsure at this stage what I loose if I do, camera apps, mirror cast etc). Or perhaps buy a hand full of "proddy things" so I can more easily remove the SD card. I can never find it when I need it.

I have connected a usb-c enclosure with NVMe to my new P6Pro. Everything looks okay until I try to transfer certain files (and/or transfer a bunch of data). One that I keep having issues with is a TitaniumBackup file, about 200-300mb.
All my other Pixels (3XL, 4XL) transfer the file just fine. Transferring between a PC & the P6P works fine (both ADB & file share push from the PC).
At first I suspected that phone doesn't provide enough power to the OTG, but it's happening very consistently with certain files, which should take ~1sec to transfer at USB3 speeds...
Wondering if it's my device or a more common issue.
Interesting. I don't have any external NVMe adapters. I do use an "old" USB-C hub that includes a Micro SD slot, and I regularly copy my music from that to my P6P's internal storage, but none of these files are likely that big (it's funny calling anything less than many GB big, but I guess all music, even my preferred format FLAC files, are still reasonably sized). I transfer a total of ~400 GB of music. I don't have the same issue but very different enough circumstances, so I'm not revealing any very helpful information.

Hmmm, I use .nomedia files extensively in all of my music's deep folder's structure, but I create them with an app that does it all at once and haven't copied those files to the source locations on my computer hard drive or the duplicate copy on Micro SD card. I'll set a reminder to run some experiments when I'm in front of the computer tomorrow and report back.
Of course, it could be specific to NVMe drives, or particular types/technology of NVMe drives, and I won't be able to confirm either of those through an adapter, anyway.
Okay, did some digging. First, back when I used to manually create .nomedia files (or use an old app to do so), they were of course zero-byte (empty) files. This app Nomedia, although slow, does work for me, and apparently creates the files with various small byte-lengths - the contents of which are merely the text of the path it put them in.
I also learned that they only seem to be necessary at a root level to completely exclude everything underneath it. I didn't remember that was the case. So I only have six .nomedia files in my 400GB+ of music files folder structure, and I'll just keep in mind never to create my own, or if I do, to always have something in the file so it's zero-byte length. I can only assume the developer for that app knew that zero-byte .nomedia files could cause some problems.

Only the album folder shows up, but no contents. I believe I am doing everything correct with the USB cable, connecting and then selecting file transfer. This is a new development. Any suggestions? Yes, I see the Pixel internal storage in file manager, and all the music folders already there. Now when I try to transfer an album the new folder shows up but none of the mp3 files. Even when I then try to transfer the files individually

Question, are you transferring then unplugging to check if they transferred? Sometimes windows and android have a hard time communicating...this is jokingly called the "middle school dance" where both see each other but both don't make the first move to update what has been done.
Sometimes I transfer stuff but windows explorer never updates what has actually transferred.
Absolutely what @Gytole said. And it's not just Windows' built-in File Explorer. Other programs like GPSoftware's Directory Opus also have the same problem with views of the phone's storage across MTP.
@gmfeld Have you checked on the phone itself if you can see the files that you think you copied recently?

Yes I checked my phone after unplugging. Weird, the last time I tried 4 files transferred out of 20. I rebooted my phone I will try rebooting my computer
I've rebooted my phone and computer and have tried every way I can think of. Four out of 20 files were transferred to my phone internal storage and I cannot get the rest of the mp3 files of the same album to copy over. This must be new to me with the latest update.

I'll set a reminder for myself tomorrow to do some tests on my own Pixel 6 Pro. I've previously copied several hundred gigabytes of FLAC and MP3 files to my P6P, but that was many months ago.

I've loaded mp3s on mine (through musicbee sync) on mays firmware so i don't think it's tied to that. Are you on May or one of the betas (june's or 13)
I also transfered boot to downloads via explorer but that was on april
I'm almost willing to bet it's a driver issue. Windows is NOTORIOUS for "Hey! I see you're working but let's go ahead and install a different driver cause I want to piss you off."
Legit happened to me after I updated Evo to version 3 yesterday. I went into the bootloader, updated the rom, and when I went to copy over the boot.img there was no "Picel 6 pro" in explorer...I had to open device manager and choose the middle MTP driver from the "choose from list" to get it to see my P6P again makes me wanna freakin hit a baby sometimes.

I was about to do the test, but was having some problems with MTP seeing the contents of a very deep folder structure of some of my FLAC files (which already exist on my P6P's internal storage), and then I remembered that actually, when I copy large amounts of and/or large sizes of files, I do so through an intermediary - usually a MicroSD card through a simple non-powered USB-C hub (using X-Plore File Manager).
Now that I've reminded myself of that, I don't even want to attempt to do the same kind of thing through MTP. It's painful and actually takes longer than copying to a MicroSD card first. Figures, eh?
Maybe ADB pull command works better.

I just was about to test Xender - Share Music Transfer, but connecting wirelessly to a PC requires enabling a hotspot on the phone and connecting the PC to the hotspot. Still worth testing, but I'll have to do that from a PC that my constant internet connection isn't critical on - so sometime later when I have time to do that.
This seems to be more common when the stock USB C to USB C cable that was included with the phone is not used. Granted, very few people have a USB C port on their computer right now, haha.
Anyway, I would have issues making 60GB video file transfers onto my phone - not because the phone wasn't showing up - but because the file transfer process would just randomly close explorer.exe on Windows after transferring a few files. Once I started using the stock USB C to C cable, this issue stopped occuring (and the transfers were much faster).
But, of course, if Windows isn't even detecting your phone you may have to install the Google Pixel USB driver (and also be sure to enable file transfer on your phone when you connect it to the computer).
So it's not an issue with my phone, as I'm able to transfer mp3 files from my work Windows computer to my P6P using a stock (non-Google) cable. Could it be some setting on my home Windows computer?

It's a driver issue on your computer. Remove the driver (uninstall it from device manager), restart computer and let it reinstall.
Don't install Google USB drivers since that's for USB debugging/fastboot. Let windows install the driver by itself.
If that doesn't work, there was a post someone made recently that shows how to reinstall the default windows driver, here.

I think you mean usually illegal, which is of course nonsense. I only use local file and get them from amazon (and formerly emusic). I hate streaming because the ads (though youtube music inserts those in local file too) and data required
