Question Duplicate photographs to new Samsung S22 and keep up with time/date stamps? - Samsung Galaxy S22

Hello,
I just got another S22 running android 12. I'm moving the photographs from the microSD card in the S10e (obviously they eliminated the SD card opening in the S22) to the S22. I did it first utilizing SmartSwitch however it changed every one of the Modified dates to now. So then, at that point, I took a stab at compressing the records, moving the compress to the S22 and unfastening it utilizing Files application from Google. Again it changed the dates to now despite the fact that inside the compress document the dates were all right. Any thoughts here how to keep up with time/date stamps?
Much appreciated,
Zane Willer

How to Transfer Photos between Android Devices Without Losing Timestamps
If you like to keep your photos organized by the date they were taken, you may encounter an annoying issue regarding dates. Specifically, the timestamps
appuals.com

A point to note is the camera app appears to name files with a timestamp based on the STARTING time. Some transferring programs (like Photo-Sync) can send using just the filename, but others may use the STOPPING timestamp. As in, start a 5 minute video recording today at 9am and the FILENAME will say "20220506_0900.mpg" but anything using the metadata will name it "20220506_0905.mpg". Most do not seem to offer a way to get the starting timestamp for this sort of thing.
I just ran into this transferring some pictures between several (family) devices, one of which stored with files named liked "IMG_XXXXX". The transferring options only offered the ENDING timestamp for creating a filename template. Some of the pix had been taken on an Android with the starting timestamp, but when transferred onto an IOS device ended up with an IMG_XXXX format. Transferring them BACK resulted in duplicates due to the start vs end timestamp. So, yeah, that's a hassle. I'll use the windows TreeSize program to help search and remove the duplicates but, ugh, more work...
I may have to dig into writing some code that renames start-based files to end-based recording timestamps.
Upside is Photo-Sync DOES preserve the timestamps on the files themselves.

Correct way to transfer photos (date incorrect)?

I just got the GN, and I'm very happy with it thus far! I have one question though, and it's something that's very annoying. What is the correct way to transfer photos to the phone, where it will KEEP the date of the photo rather than creating the pictures with today's date?
For instance, I have about 400 photos I want on the phone. I connected the phone, and just did a simple drag and drop. They transferred fine, but when they did, they all had TODAY'S date rather than the date the photos were created/edited/taken.
Am I doing something wrong here? Can anyone point out to me how to get the pictures to retain their date?
Thanks!
Check picasaweb. Your photos should be synced there. It will have all the correct times in the exif info.

I'm sure the pictures metadata still has the proper date of when they were taken intact, but the Gallery is simply reading when they were moved to the phone instead. Surely a different more photo-centric gallery app would sort by date taken not date added.

[Q] Photos in Gallery not sorting correct

I have the T-Mobile SGS3. I noticed today while looking in the Gallery app to view my photos that they are not in the order that I have taken them. I checked the details, and the 'Title' shows the actual date/time the photo was taken. The 'Time' shows something different. The EXIF data from the photos that were instantly uploaded to my dropbox shows the correct timestamp of when the photo was taken.
I also noticed that some photos with different timestamps were the photos I used to transfer via Wifi Direct or S-Beam.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is a major flaw if the timestamps are being changed due to transferring.
one more thing...
I also noticed that the photos are dated in the future. For example, one photo was taken on 7/13/2012 20:20 and now shows a date of 7/16/2012 10:02.

Yes, the freaking timestamp is wrong in the detail. Thus making any google+ photo upload messed up in date as well. Tried clear data on both gallery and camera...not working. Tried to install default ICS gallery, not working. The only way I can view the image in right order is to use QuickPic...but the timestamp is still messed up. :crying:

This is happening on my Verizon S III also.
It seems to be Google+ causing the problem. I disabled Instant Upload and it appears to have fixed the problem for any new pictures I take. The pictures with the broken timestamps don't even have any data in the "date taken" field in the EXIF data when I check it on my PC.
Try disable G+ Instant Upload and let us know if it fixes it for you.

sort gallery pics and videos
Hi. i had a problem when i was copyin pics from one of my device to other. It couldnt be sorted . I tried many options such as renaming , quick pic . nne worked. I found that when you copy pics to windows and it automatically stamps a "date created" time any time a file is copied. Due to this when i copied my pics to a new device from windows folder it wouldnt be sorted by date taken rather was sorted by date created. the way around is not using windows as the middle platform.
I connected both my source phone and destination device to a laptop. Copy directly from one device storage to the destination device storage. this does not edit the time stamp. This worked for me and all the copied itmes were sorted in gallery according to time taken.
So the only way is to copy directly from one device storage to another device storage (without copying it to windows intermediate folder).
Hope this works. do let me know if you need any help.
Best Regards

Fix Hasselblad Mod photo timestamp

The Moto Hasselblad Mod has a serious bug that when GPS tag is turned on, any photo taken by the Hasselblad Mod will be attached with a random GPSDateStamp & GPSTimeStamp, and no GPS coordinates at all (Maybe the one I have is faulty, I don't have another Hasselblad Mod to test with).
Google Photos(The default gallary for Moto Z phones) is using GPSDateStamp & GPSTimeStamp prior to other date time in EXIF which will resulting photos appears years early or in far far away future.
This bug has already been reported(see links below) a long time ago and never got fixed. So I downloaded Visual Studio and by a lot of Googling and made this program.

I tried to update date & time on mobile but after the date & time is updated Google Photos thinks this is a new photo and will upload a new copy of the photo at correct date & time, but still leave the old uploaded copy in library(so you got 2 same photos, at different time). So I guess I can only copy all photos to computer and make it right on the computer, and delete them on mobile, sadly(so at least there will not be any photos in 1980s or 2230s on my mobile)
This program will scan all jpg files by Hasselblad Mod, read the DateTimeOriginal from EXIF and use it to update GPSDateStamp & GPSTimeStamp.
I don't know how to use Visual Studio or C# or Windows Forms, this program is build with a lot Googling & readings on MSDN in 1 day, so it might have bugs that I don't know yet. !!!!!!!!!MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKED UP YOUR PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!

Never made that correlation - it's been bugging me for over a year as to why I have pictures that never show up correctly, and mess up selection in applications because the picker shows recent.
What exactly is your application doing (since it got flagged by Chrome)?
It reads DateTimeOriginal from photo's EXIF and use it to update GPSDateStamp & GPSTimeStamp. Not sure why Chrome flags it, but you can always use www.virustotal.com to scan it

How to Avoid Losing Photo Date Grouping in Gallery

How to avoid losing Photo Date Grouping in Gallery?
Or, is this question better stated as "How do I keep all file properties (creation date, modification date etc.) when copying photos to a new (e.g., larger) micro SD card?
Here is my scenario -
I am getting a new Micro SD card and a holder to plug it into the bottom of the phone. Once I insert that, and the phone recognizes it -
1. *Copy everything from the old card to the new card.
2. Turn off phone, pop out the sim tray and swap the new card into it.
*The date is reset - how do I stop this?
Thoughts?
Shouldn't be a problem
There's an application I use on my laptop that can read the dates and copy it across the other date in batches. I do it every time I move phones as copying changes at least some of the data.

It is a problem, that is why I posted this, all the dates on every file is reset to the current date and time when it was copied. So now my gallery is a mess.... Help!

This happens to me every time I get a new device and copy my pics across using a PC. Something gets lost in the translation when put back on to Android... The EXIF tag can sometimes be used if it's stored in the image file to correct the file data. There's apps for this you could try. I haven't bothered in a long time as I just live with it now but it's super annoyingly stupid that it happens.
Never had this issue. I always copy/move my files with Solid Explorer

I use EXIF Date Changer first, that sets the EXIF data to whatever date is in the filename, make sure to untick the checkbox that amends the filenames. Once that's done I use BulkFileChanger to set all the EXIF data to match what has been set by EXIF Date Changer. They're both pretty self-explanatory if you're even vaguely competent
Best to do all this with the files on the SD card and mounted onto your laptop otherwise you're going to have the same issues as soon as you copy them from your laptop back to the SD card. If you need any help then give me a shout.

Is there anyway to do this after you do the transfer the jpeg on Android? It suspect my Canon PC app could do as the date is still correct on the jpeg but stupid Android doesn't reference it. None of my Android gallery apps do. Very irritating.
Been casually searching for a fix as I now have thousands of juxtaposed jpegs... perfect.

What do you mean "transfer the jpeg to Android"?

From computer to phone when reloading. Not using a backup app, direct transfer.
So the last date modified is the same on all the jpegs in that unloaded folder.
Sort by date and sort by name fails miserably to restore their original sequential order.

I keep my pictures on an SD card so I can do the fixes on the card, in my laptop. I'm not sure if you can manipulate the images on the phone directly with the apps I've said with the phone plugged in, I've never tried it.

Going to export the whole mess to Windows.
Canon software can rename the jpegs in batch mode.
Just pisses me that it can't be easily done on the stupid Android.
I rarely dredge out the laptop... except to support Android.

JPEGs from Capture One not showing up in Gallery, but PNGs do, any explanations?

Hi, all. Hope you're doing well.
I've come across this issue where:
JPEG images exported from Capture One Pro 12 and copied to the internal storage of my OnePlus 7T refuse to show up in the gallery (or rather mediastore refuses to pick them up it seems), but PNG images exported from COP 12 show up without a problem.
I've tried moving them around into different folders with file management apps.
I've tried opening them up with the gallery app from the file manager.
I've tried refreshing media storage with apps (which did show me that it had indeed found the missing images and it told me that it had added them into mediastore), but no luck with those.
It happened to me before, an entire folder of JPEG images refused to show up, and they still are missing. And all the PNG files that I copied from my computer showed up just fine. So I tried exporting PNGs from COP 12, and they showed up immediately.
Any idea how this could happen? Can anyone repeat this case reliably or is it just me?
Many thanks!
And stay safe.
Check for the jpeg format when saving in C1
