Question Regarding AOSP and Dolby Atmos (or "Am I indeed limited to Xiaomi.eu?") - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

I've done few searches in the forum, just to affirm my thoughts, but I found only the points that lead to the other title of the thread, but I'll ask this frankly and clearly:
As a hardcore Arcaea player:
Am I indeed limited to Xiaomi.eu?
Or it could happen that an AOSP ROM can feature MIUI Dolby Atmos?
I'm pretty sure this is a "pick your poison" situation, as going AOSP (crDroid, to be frank, many thanks raystef66!) kills Atmos but going MIUI instead screws the UX, but I'm kind of unsure of which to pick.
If unsure, even with Moto Audio and external equaliser "Wavelet" kind of "patching" the audio quality a bit, it does not help the audio latency resulted from missing the proper audio drivers (a stark difference of 142ms just from losing Atmos), to which Arcaea is extremely sensitive, enough to urge a switch.
I'm sure I'll get some words saying I could just try this myself, and I'll agree beforehand; I just need to know how to manage a custom ROM and I could figure out MIUI Atmos. And then the licences for the ROMs, including my current selection.
If there's nothing I can do about this, feel free to autolock the thread if you must along with a Xiaomi.eu recommendation, since it just will be yet another "Dolby Atmos" thread on top of the existing pile...
alioth 12.5.6
crDroid ver8.4 (Android 12.1) 2022.04.08
TWRP 3.6.1-unofficial
(Special note: If I must be rooted for any potential solution, I could use methods to bypass CrackProof in Princess Connect! Re: Dive since I am also hardcore in that one. As of now CrackProof does not complain with the current crDroid setup, since I refused to install Magisk until required for good reason.)
EDIT: Auto-converts to emoji, yikes. I may re-edit again as I test.

Moto Audio sadly. It doesn't help--the latency is still there.
The problem is specifically about MIUI Dolby Atmos.

Hey, have you found a solution?
I'm in the same boat. Have you found an Non-MIUI Custom ROM with good Dolby Atmos?
It sucks that no one has ported MIUI Dolby Atmos yet. I wonder how much effort this would take. And if the audio driver or MIUI Dolby Atmos is proprietary.
I used to be on ArrowOS (which is lovely clean btw!), but I cannot deal with Default Sound. I got wayy too used to MIUI Dolby Atmos in Video Mode. But holy shít man, MIUI itself sucks major *ss...
I'm now flashing Xiaomi.eu 13 Stable until I find an AOSP ROM with actually good Dolby Atmos. Not the trash Moto Dolby or Razer Moto.

It seems the reply above you has the same thoughts so I'm probably better off shaving some gigabytes sticking to Xiaomi.eu until MIUI Dolby Atmos is good to go...

How about trying ainur magisk mod? After trying it myself on miui to compare I never wanna use Dolby again.
Personally it's the best one I ever used - audio becomes much more crisp. It's distorted on miui implementation of dolby so I really don't think you'll get any further by yourself...

The problem isn't the crisp audio, but rather the resulting offset in Arcaea; an astounding 142ms latency. I kind of got the audio "patched" in crDroid with Wavelet before switching to Xiaomi.eu, but after I switched I noticed the horrid difference in audio latency in crDroid, gone/fixed in Xiaomi.eu. That's where the problem is.

This is what it's like on gsi
You will have to figure out how to adjust the app to use full screen tho... And the bottom but of screen is taken by the gesture pill.
Both are fixable via magisk modules
This is not headphones BTW , I have no idea what it's like with them
Another worthy mention is latest unofficial lineage 19.1 or try arrow tho idk if either stack well against audio latency... I'd try lineage tbh, I feel like it's more likely to be better audio wise and if the touch actually got fixed on the latest release like the dev said it probably should be decent.

For me the only problem with AOSP Sound effects were the Sound itself.
I didn't notice the latency being a problem, I didn't focus on that, but it may actually be a problem if you say so.
I use Bluetooth Headphones which naturally have a bit of latency, even on AptX Codex. As far as games are concerned I only play games like Dead By Daylight Mobile etc..
Dolby Atmos is a Surround Sound feature (Spacial Sound feature) and in my opinion Razer and Moto Dolby sounded like they *try* to make it spacial but instead make it sound virtualised. As if the Sound-bitrate got reduced.
MIUI Dolby is miles better, it can make music sound like it's more around your head (and not inside your head), when you select the Video-Mode. It's more immersive and emotional.
I also tried Wavelet and its paid features but I still wasn't happy.
With MIUI Dolby distortion is no problemo, at least for me. xd

Sound Quality on Nougat Based ROMs

Hi Everyone,
Is it just me or the sound quality after updating to Nougat has really gone down (that we need upgrades like A.R.I.S.E or Divine beats?). Earlier I noticed that we used to have a simple mod for any sound i.e. Viper4Android, which is still MOTHER OF ALL SOUND MODs for me .
I noticed that the audio playback is having VERY MUFFLED bass through my home theatre system over the same bluetooth connection while playing with MM ROM. I tried rolling back to MM and things work perfectly. I wish to stay on Nougat for obvious advantages of the newer UI, better battery & performance but would still like to see if anyone can port the lib from MM to N?
I don't essentially want to install ARISE or Divine Beats; for me Viper4Android is just fine and I would love if it works just the way it used to on MM.
PS: I bought my home theatre after tweaking Viper v2.5.0.5 on MM and the same is not working after updating to N.... any help is appreciated.

I use Beats Audio player & Audio Tuner from sound settings. On headphones sounds good.

The sound libraries have DEFINITELY changed in the system which are truly worse than Marshmallow!
I certainly need someone's help in getting them Ported back or else I have no other option other than rolling back to MM (since I spend 4-5 hrs/day on music). :crying:

Viper4Android and Divine beats/A.R.I.S.E are completely different. Divine beats and arise change your music first without you going into the app to change things. When I installed freedomOS with Divine beats, I notice my bass was extremely overpowered and everything just sounded like crap.... I really don't understand people's music choices sometimes. All these sound mods just make the phone sound like crap, especially since the OP3 already has a much warmer profile, meaning the bass and highs are very pronounced from the box

Exactly my point.
Even though the sound out of box was very good, using Viper4Android would take it to the next level. But Divine/A.R.I.S.E fiddle too much and extort the audio.
Marshmallow sound libraries were literally awesome and V4A on top of it would just make it mind blowing. Don't know how to get that same experience without going back from Nougat. :'(

Well you can install freedomOS without the Divine beats and what not, install Blu_spark kernel and set it to SElinux to permissive. Then you can install Viper4Android on its own and you'll have some nice audio.

I strongly recommend against this. Just install Magisk or use something that comes with Magisk preinstalled and install the Viper4Android from the Magisk repo / Magisk module. There is also one for Dolby Atmos. That way you don't have to mess with SELinux or modify system files.
Nah...Didn't go well.
Still the same sound quality. Muffled and garbled.
I have the EXACT same issue. I can't believe OnePlus went ahead and did this. Who do I tell?
I have great sound...experienceos + viper4arise with magisk. Install permissive script for magisk to avoid overheating issues. Dont tinker to much in viper . This is my speaker setting its loud and very clear. I love it.

I beg to differ from your opinion here though.
After trying out 4 different Nougat based ROMs and 4 different Marshmallow based ROMs (yeah....took a lot of time with clean installation and stuff), I easily infer that OP3 Nougat ROMs have REALLY POOR sound libraries. Viper4Android alone works well with Marshmallow based ROMs (and using it with A.R.I.S.E/Divine Beats/etc. makes it even better) and bass doesn't distort at all (saved a few Viper Profiles and re-used them between ROMs). But the same profile in Viper on Nougat sounds just CRAP!!
Don't know what the solution here. Just wish there was some way to find out what is it that is causing this to happen? Which part of sound library or which file? Can anyone help?

Headphone Output Volume

Hi guys, recently I noticed that the headphone jack output isn't as loud it used to be in the OOS 3.X days.
For example, setting my OnePlus X aside and comparing the two, I would much rather prefer the louder, more aggressive tones it produces compared to the OP3.
Does anyone know what I could do to work around this? I have the bluspark kernel currently. I flashed francokernel to use gain control and was running into stability issues and bootloops before i could even get to it.
I'm currently on OB14 and my daily driver IEMs are the Xiaomi Hybrid Pro HDs.
Thanks.
Use ARISE Sound mod + V4A. These work great. Also these are included in popular roms like FreedomOS & ExperienceOS.
Hope this helps.

Do one thing flash FreedomOS and in aroma select Arkamysa and Viper 2.5 (or whichever is latest), do not select anything else in Audio Mods. It will work for sure.

Get Viper4Android, do not get any audio mods that come with ROMs if you really do care about audio quality. All these different audio mods make music sound like absolute trash and remove a lot of clarity. Viper4Android doesn't change the sound if you don't want it too and you can go to the last option and boost the gain by I think 10db... That is plenty enough to bring it back to the loudness you like (probably way higher) while not deteriorating the sound much.

Is there any need for music mods like viper?

Just wandering if there is any need for mods like viper to enhance the music experience of this phone, considering it already has the dolby app? Or can viper and dolby play nicely together to make the phone even louder?

I used the magisk modules.

For the speakers, no, dolby kicks ass there & I can't seem to match it with viper...
... Except I barely use the speakers as good as they are! I use my Bluetooth over ear headphones most of the tone and viper is king for that, works very well too (I use universal audio patch & viper magisk modules)

Razer Dolby Atmos is junk compared to MIUI's Dolby Atmos. Forget this module.
Same with Moto Dolby, although that one's even worse.
We have yet to get a great Dolby Atmos experience on Custom ROMs beside Xiaomi.eu.
Someone with coding skills needs to port MIUI Dolby Atmos or the one from Samsung.

Dolby Atmos is different from manufacturer to manufacturer. The sound will not be universally the same.
Though Samsung's Dolby Atmos seems similar to Xiaomi's in my experience, but Samsung may be the only exception. ^^
You can just think of Dolby Atmos as enabling Surround Sound.
Some Custom ROMs come with Lenovo's Moto Dolby, which sucks ass, unfortunately.
Haven't tried AICP, but enough other ROMs to say that Custom ROMs need better sound. I'm staying with Xiaomi.eu for the moment ^^
I have tried a lot of magisk modules for dolby
Razer's Samsung's and Moto's only difference is moto's was terrible.
The only good Dolby for AOSP roms in the one within AICP. Give it a try

Question Does Dolby atmos not working with games?

Eversince i bought this phone, i always turn on dolby atmos, especially the video preset. It makes the speaker much louder and fuller when listening to music and videos. But when launching games, the sound noticably weaker and flatter as if Dolby atmos is disabled.
I have tried to toggle Atmos from the QS button but no difference. I tried it on Spotify, the disabled atmos speaker sound is similar to when playing games. Toggling the "enhance audio" option in game turbo doesn't have any effect on sound quality either.
Does this problem always there for everyone or it is just my phone?
Here's my phone details:
Poco F3 128GB
Stock MIUI 13.0.5.0 SKHIDXM Stable
it should theoretically work. i'm not on MIUI, but in an AOSP Custom ROM with a Dolby Magisk Module and it works everywhere.

Do you guys just use Stock MIUI ROM or a Custom ROM like Xiaomi.eu ?
I remember playing Dead by Daylight on Xiaomi.eu MIUI 13 (don't remember if Stable or Weekly), and Dolby Atmos definitely worked during that gaming-session!
I'll be going from AOSP back to Stock Poco MIUI. Will check for Dolby in Games.
