Question Advices for a fresh user - Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Hi .
I'm about to get my s21 FE this week. Could you perhaps point me to the right direction and show me what are the things I should consider changing when I start using the phone.
I'm aware of the app that will make the adaptive refresh rate and I guess I'm going to use it right away.
Perhaps there are some good guides for newbies how to improve battery life etc.
I also dont want to get rid of the device warranty by doing any changes.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi,
To manage the refresh rate, you can use this app:
[App]Galaxy Max Hz (Refresh Rate Mods, Screen-off Mods, QS Tiles, Tasker Support and More)
About this app: Refresh Rate Mods Change default refresh rates -Easily change the overall refresh rate settings of devices supporting multiple refresh rates. -Set supported mid refresh rates as the maximum refresh rate limit for battery...
forum.xda-developers.com
But beware, the S21 FE does not support adaptive refresh, only 60 or 120 Hz.
For battery optimization, there is a lot of discussion and a lot of differing opinions.
The best way to preserve it is to try never to go below 15% charge and never above 85%..... but this is difficult to implement!!
Or, you can also pay no attention to it and plan to change the battery when it begins to show signs of weakness
Finally, you can also optimize your smartphone by following this complete guide which does not require root access and therefore does not modify it irreparably :
[DISCONTINUED] Samsung Galaxy One UI - Optimization Guide
THIS IS A SUGGESTED CONFIGURATION FOR SAMSUNG DEVICES OUT OF SUPPORT/CLOSED I - RECOMMENDED SETTINGS To Start With - Factory Reset before starting optimisations - Factory Reset after every Major update (One UI/Android) - Remove SIM before first...
forum.xda-developers.com

Great.
Thank you for the links. Going to try those when the phone arrives.
Is there any option in wellbeing that changes 100% to 80% of the battery capacity? Perhaps this could be an option to prevent it from going to 100%.

There is battery protect, it limits charging to 85%

I've applied most of the settings and now I'm trying to debloat the device. Is there any recent list for s21 fe ? There is so many samsung packages that I don't really know if I need or not... Gettting a bit complicated there.
Also I wonder about restoring app before making a phone update. Do I need to reinstall all apps that I deleted and disabled before I actually make an update? and after the update delete them again ?

P6 firmware upgrades?

My P6 is on the "P6-UO6V100R001C00B635" firmware (EMUI2.3, Android 4.4.2) and drains the battery very quick. To add to that, I notice some performance issues, specially using Google Keyboard where the key "pop-up" when you click in a letter is really slow and when typing it gets in the way...
I'm in Portugal and my carrier is Vodafone.
The updater doesn't show any further updates, but in here (XDA) there is some threads regarding b708 and b709.
a) Does your phone act this way too?
b) In case I should update, how would I do that?
c) Could it possibly break something? Or have any problems with my carrier?
Thanks in advance
a) Yes, to some extent with the battery.
If you'd like to compare with my battery (or anyone else's) , we need to have as similar usage as possible. I usually keep the phone on 'Ultra battery' setting (see pic below) overnight & completely unused - if you can do the same, we can compare what percentage of battery has drained in say, 6-8 hours. Also, close all opened apps before setting Ultra battery.
b) In the same boat: also on B635 & would like to update, but see c)...
c) Yes, it could mess things up. Hence why I asked if it can be updated from B635 in the B709 forum thread (post #372 at present).
My phone is rooted, so I may need to do other steps as well before trying to manually update.

How exactly do you use your phone during the day? I usually listen to music, if not check WhatsApp or Messenger. When using the camera the battery goes down quickly too.

It's not my main phone any more.
That's why I suggested overnight when not in use.

Can't see from pic but battery drain is NEVER normally happen. Did you it happened after updated. If the answer is yes
please check ALL notification and permissions on all app. Update may reset their setting and stupidly disabled all of them.
Most app need some permission that must be allowed but updates set deny their access, It make apps keep calling API trying to pop notification but updates disabled all notification too. See?
Basically all your batteries juices went to drain because ALL Apps doing these futile things.
IIRC Easiest way to fix is by first enable all notification (easily founded in setting page), then give setting AND security all access / permission they need. A lot of app will gives notification they need somethings now and grants them what they really need (Ie. Calculator asking for contact is suspicious AF)
This bug did happen in INDONESIAN ROM, may or may not apply to GLOBAL etv

It didn't work. Android system always consumes 30-40 percent of the battery
Hope the issue is fixed with the update

Question Pixel 6 (Pro) Variable Refresh Rate

Hey guys, looking for confirmation. I recently started exploring this phone's VRR to see if I could find a way to force max refresh of 90hz on the pro to try and save battery. Ran into trouble and found this video showing the phone only goes from 60-120hz:
I've heard arguments against being able to see the refresh rate with the developer options tool, as refresh rates of LPTO displays happen at lower (hardware) level than the "show refresh rate" tool (software) can view.
Many VRR displays use profiles rather than true "seemless" switching, ie: 1hz, 10hz, 11hz, 24hz, 30hz, 40hz, 60hz, 120hz.
Does anyone have the necessary expertise to tell me what's going on here? Do our Pixel 6/Pro displays have two refresh profiles, 60hz and 120hz, and that's it? Or is this a failure of the methodology being used in the above video's test? Further, is this a hardware limitation, or something that can be fixed via a software update in the future?
Thanks to anyone with some insight
*Edit* Here's a pic of the website "smartprix" claiming the P6P is variable down to 10hz

Here's another troubling post about the display on this thing, if anyone is interested. I'm hoping we can get some of these things addressed in updates, because I really love this phone. I just want to find a way to make the battery last a bit longer..
Are these issues that perhaps custom kernels may also address? Sorry if any of these are obvious questions, I just plan on keeping this phone a long time and hate seeing these head-scratching issues. Thanks

He also mentions in that thread that this is pretty much unfixable. I wouldn't bet on custom kernels etc being able to fix this.
It is fixable (in theory).
The hardware supports a variable refresh rate from 10-120 Hz, so in theory that can be used "fully". Meaning 10, 30, 60, 24, 90, whatever.
BUT - Google locks it down. As of now, we do not know why, or how.
Maybe someone will find/make a fix/a mod one day, maybe Google will do it.
Right now we do not have a fix, and don't know more. Not much more to say.
So, would it be better to force 120 Hz in developer options?

I don't see how, it would just cost more battery. The phone ramps up to 120hz fine, it's lower frequencies that are the issue. Which leads to yet another thing that's compounding battery problems
Is it possible to get different control with a custom ROM?
Interested to know if you've found any updates on this in the almost 2 years since you asked. Setting the max refresh rate to 90Hz would be cool!

Question Search feature in Settings disappeared?

First day on new Samsung Galaxy S21 FE phone. After some hours, I noticed that I don't have a search features in Settings anymore. It was there as expected on Android, but now it simply disappears. Any idea what can change this behavior?
Additional info - I made debloat as instructed in XDA forum for Samsung phones. Maybe there was something which could damage it?
You debloated it Dependencies...
Be very careful what you disable especially with the smaller Samsung system apps. Some are useless bloatware, but many just sit there unless needed.
In Android 10 Samsung added dozens of small system apps that preserve the UI functionality and appearance. Android 9 on the same device didn't have them but both look and behave nearly identically.
The "damage" isn't permanent. Either undo the edit(s) that caused it or a factory reset will purge all the edits and revert it to factory default settings.
Tnx.
I didn't find a solution, so I made a factory reset.
Now it works again (until my next debloat session ).
I use a package disabler and block about 80.
Some of the lists I've seen are way more than I would do. Things like that settings search feature which can be useful at times.
I poked around a bit, this is the app that provides that service.

I really appreciate you making this comment even after OP had resolved their issue. It's very helpful for future people who end up searching Google for the same issue, like I just did, haha.
I found my search function missing as well and I figured it had to have been dependent on an app I disabled, but I couldn't imagine what app. Thankfully I landed here and your comment saved me a lot of time I would have spent scouring up and down the apps list.
Funny thing is I don't remember ever even seeing the Settings Suggestions app when I was debloating. I definitely would have figured out what that was for and not disabled it. I used the app "ADB AppControl" on Windows and I did run the "Basic" (lowest level) Debloat wizard, assuming it wouldn't disable anything so essential, but I'm certain that's what must have disabled it. So there's a warning for anyone else, always be careful with one-click solutions! Hopefully this helps anyone else who ends up here on another future Google search.

How To Guide Battery life Inhacement Mi 11 lite 5G NE - Code name <<LISA>>

Hello,
I just created this thread to post a tip that works perfectly with me to enhace battery life and it's very simple to do and i wanted to share it with you.
and it's just switching from BALANCED to SAVE BATTERY like you could see in the photos above, with this i gained +~40% of battery life. In my case i don't use the phone hugely but the way my battery drains was frustrating me even without using it constantly it was draining fast in stand by only.
before i tried this option i was always using DARK MODE and disabling auto start for apps almost for every app etc just to boost the battery life, and now when im on SAVE BATTERY im back to the LIGHT MODE and using the phone with the least battery life extension measures. i joined another photo showing the few optimisations i use.
i had to charge it 2 to 3 times per day from 20% to over 85%, now i don't even think about charging because i know that 50% of the lasting battery can absolutly be enough for me to the end of the day. (as i mentioned before im not a huge user of the phone), so when you use it in games for exemple it will drain as fast as it used to drain, i think it's way of working is limiting the process in the backgroud.
it's a good deal when watching films and videos in a browser also, i use kiwi browser with chrome extensions like ublock to block ads, the battery life is better when you switch to BATTERY SAVE option even when you put the brigtness at higher levels. i don't know about NETFLIX etc i don't use it so TBT.
Now i use 90 hz refresh date in i assume that i charge the phone 2 times per day just for ~35-25% or less just in less 15 minutes just to keep the battery over 70% and it doesn't bother me att all.
i wish this could be helpful for you guys
